I had Japadog in Santa Monica which was a cart. I knew it wasn't the real experience which I got in Vancouver. We ordered the bento box although expensive was a great treat. The lemonade was on point. That brings us to the hotdogs which first things first came on an excellent bun. I had the BLT which wasn't a risk and delivered. Doing the simple things well. The original #1 was delicious and the reason for proof of concept, the avocado fortunately went to an Avocado lover, not for me. Haters gunna hate, Japadog hits the spot. Had Japadog on my Vancouver food list and it happened to be a block away from our hotel so honestly... kismet. We tried the Okonomi, Terimayo and karaage chicken. Everything was really tasty but the karaage was probably my favorite bite which maybe feels like cheating since it's technically not a hot dog lol. Walked over here since we were staying in a hotel nearby and heard it was a Canadian classic. They have some indoor seating and also some tables outside. We visited Japadog before sports game and wanted to grab hotdog. We hadn't visited here quite a while... So, we wanted to try Vancouver's iconic food again. What we got: Teriyaki Egg mayo dog, Chicken Japamiso burger and shaked fries(shoyu butter). I did not have chicken japamiso burger, I was told it was just ok. My Teriyaki egg mayo dog had tamago sandwich filling(egg and mayo) on the top of sausage. Idea was unique. Bun was dry, and I remember bun had a good balance of sweetness, but, I could not find the flavor this time. Sausage was just ok. Shaked fries was too salty, I could not eat more than a few pieces. I never had such a salty fries before. And it took more than 20 - 25 minutes to serve our food(it was not really busy) and my first choice was out of stock, and I overheard other customers had the same issue for out of stock. I had an overnight layover in Vancouver, and this is the place I chose to go for my only meal in the city; that's how good it is. I first tried Japadog years ago, and it made a lasting impression for the most unique hot dog offerings. Everything on the menu deserves its own individual shoutout: the drinks, the hot dogs, the poutine, the dessert ice cream, everything is simply worth a visit! Even late at night, there was always someone in line. This time around, I visited a bit late at night, which was a new experience. My only two complaints and reasons for the one star short is that we were left to dine in the cold since the indoor dining closed after 10pm, and many of the fan favorite menu items were completely sold out. I would suggest for the owners to invest in an outdoor heater to keep customers warm in the wintertime if it's not possible to extend dining hours indoors past 10pm. And given the demand for some of the menu items, it might be prudent to maintain supplies to keep up with the demand. I'm sure I'm not the only person who returns hoping to taste something, and it would be disappointing to leave without a chance, especially as we travel from other countries. Overall, Japadog is just as great as I remembered. Although I didn't get a chance to order the items I wanted, I had fun exploring new menu varieties. Review # 6 for 2026 3.5 stars Went here late on night after our evening bus tour in Vancouver. Later at night, the indoor seating is closed and there is only outdoor seating. I wanted to try this place as it looked unique and there are many interesting flavors and toppings for the hot dogs. Know there there are other locations around town as well but there are more like hot dog stands, but will be less busy as you cannot sit inside at night anyways. We were able to get a seat though as someone was leaving and we went to grab it, but there is only like 2 or 3 tables. At night you also order from the window outside only and it is only to-go orders and you order from the kiosk. There is very little human interaction. The only interaction is if you have an issue or picking up your food when they call you. My husband and I ordered a couple different hotdogs and an order of poutine to share with our 1 year old. For hotdogs, there are definitely on the pricey side. For the life of me, I can't seem to remember what flavors we ordered. I remember it tasting pretty good... but not like wow, I must eat this. I also remember the hot dogs being pretty small in size... so if you are coming here starving late night, this place will not fill you up at all. If you are looking for a late night snack, this might hit the spot. I left still feeling hungry but in no way did I want to pay another $10 for a hot dog. I do think this place is over hyped for what you get. My husband seemed to really like it though. Would I come back? I would not go out of my way to find a JapaDog. Both the okonomi and kurobuta terimayo were very underwhelming both in flavor and texture of the meat itself. The bread, sauces, and toppings were fine, but if the meat isn't good then nothing can save it. It was heavy on the mayo so if that's a concern for you then ask for less! Perhaps the expansion over the years resulted in diminished quality because I'm sure at one point this was truly an experience to be had or maybe some of the other locations are better. I ordered the wagyu terimayo dog and it had a wagyu beef hot dog, fried onions, teriyaki sauce, Japanese mayo, and seaweed. This hot dog was DELICIOUS!! The meat quality of the hot dog itself was really good and the combination of flavors from the toppings were great as well. My husband and I both thought this may be the best hot dog we've ever had. Overall, 10/10 would recommend this. The store itself is pretty small, but there is some seating indoors and outdoors. There isn't much service here as you just order at the counter and wait for your number to be called, but the employee taking our order was friendly. congrats to japadog on their 20th anniversary! they kicked off a generous three day giveaway to celebrate this iconic hotdog brand that started as a humble food cart and skyrocketed to fame during the vancouver 2010 winter olympics. back then, it wasn't unusual to see hour long lineups of over 100 people at their original food cart on the corner of burrard and smithe. today, with at least eight locations and two decades under their belt, they're still going strong. i swung by their downtown flagship store on friday around 5:15 pm. the line was no joke, it snaked around inside, and the wait for a free japadog was about half an hour. the line moved fairly quickly with staff making sure we didn't block the sidewalk. bypassers were curious to see what this line up was about and where the end of the line was. vibes were upbeat, with people chatting, snapping photos, and patiently anticipating their turn. for the giveaway, they were offering three classic options: kurobuta terimayo okonomi beef bacon cheese i went with the beef bacon cheese, an all beef dog topped with torched cheese, crumbled bacon bits, and a drizzle of japanese mayo. the bun was lightly toasted from the blow torch and that first bite delivered salty, melty, smoky, savoury goodness. totally worth the wait. aside from hotdogs, the menu's expanded over the years. now you'll find interesting flavours of milkshakes like black sesame and matcha, there's takoyaki, omatcha parfait, matcha tiramisu, poutine, shaked fries, vegan dogs, chicken burgers, and even age ice, a scoop (or two) of ice cream in between a hot dog bun. japadog has been featured in macleans magazine, the vancouver sun, the province and even on anthony bourdain's no reservations. happy 20th! read more

I first had japadog when I came to visit Vancouver 8 years ago and remembered how enjoyable it was. During this visit, I came here twice! I had the Spicy Cheese Terimayo both times and also got to try a bite of the Kurobuta Okonomi. Yummy! We got lucky and walked up shortly before they started turning away customers for the night. Which didn't reflect their hours. So I'm assuming they were low on ingredients or something? The service was friendly and recommended a few things that were good! I got the Takoyaki, which was unique but yummy. Looked like it was frozen and they just threw them in a microwave. Then I got the Oroshi which was also good. This had a really unique flavor and with the shredded radish on top had several complementing flavors. Unique is the word I'd use to describe this experience. It was somewhat quick, about 5-10 minutes from ordering to food in hand. Standing on the sidewalk I felt like I was in the way a few times. So there really isn't an ambiance. There are a few places to sit on walls and such, but no chairs. So come prepared to walk and eat. But again, unique food and decent service. read more

But it didn't work well in a bun and lettuce for me. It just felt like two separate items put together. Maybe it needed more sauce? This place has ultra quick service regardless of the length of the lineup. There are multiple sausages to try from including 3 different pork, 2 beef and veggie. I treat myself to the wagyu each and every time even though this wasn't apart of their original options way back when. My favourite is the terimayo which is topped with seaweed and I make sure to get extra on the seaweed for the crunchy, yet messy, effect. Hot diggity dog, it's been a while since I had a Japadog but it's still the top dog for me. It's no wonder that they're celebrating their 20th(!) anniversary now. As an extremely generous way of showing their appreciation, they're giving away free hot dogs from May 1-3. You get the choice of a Korubata Terimayo, Okonomi, or Beef Bacon Cheese. Of course, I went with their classic Korubata Terimayo and it was as delicious as I remember. The Korubata pork sausage was so juicy and had some snap to it from the grill; it perfectly complemented the soft texture of the hot dog bun. With the fried onions, teriyaki sauce, Japanese mayo, and seaweed, it was the perfect combination of sweet and savoury. I got there right at 5pm and only waited 30 minutes despite the lineup already spilling onto the patio and sidewalk. Japadog's small but mighty team was so well-organized and efficient: there were 3 staff manning the kitchen, 2 taking orders at the register, and 1-2 managing the line. There was even a staff member dressed as a hot dog which I found so endearing and funny. Congrats, Japadog, on an incredible 20 years in Vancouver and thank you again for the delicious hot dog. Stopped by here for brunch and it was good. Very versatile menu and unique choices for hot dogs and Japanese street food! Very small establishment with very limited seating inside and outside.
