I feel like this would be a 3.5 had there been half stars. Man we need those half stars. This place is a hidden secret we didn't know about til recently. It's inside the AmVets building on west broad street. Don't need to be a member as long as you're coming in to eat. The prices are pretty good on the food. The prices are amazing from the bar since it's AmVets. The server was actually the wife of the owner, Tammy, so that was a nice treat. She gave us the low down on the place and all the unique sauces they have. All made in house. Great info. Great service. The wings are a nice size. Comparable to Roosters and that's sayin something because Roosters wings are bigger than any I've ever had. We got fries and onion rings to start. Both yummy. Another patio told is to get the wizard sauce. Apparently it's a wing sauce but he said it's best on the sides. It was delicious on the onion rings. The sauce list is very unique and very diverse. I went with a classic, garlic parm. It was good. I've always wanted to try Alabama White. It was very tasty. If you like the horseradish flavor. Our friend got the scorpion wings and the kit him on fire. He got sample taster of the hottest one that's not even on the menu. It was Major Pain. He said he tasted awful but wow was it hot lol. It was super thick like a tomato paste. Other friend got honey smacks. It was pretty good. Not super hot but had a tingle for sure. The mean mug was pretty tasty. My husband got the hot honey and said it wasn't really very hot. Asian sticky. That one was good. Not hot. The ranch was weird. Pretty sure it was a dill dip lol. Listen. This was a struggle in several ways. But worth it. I kept hearing great things about this, and I had some free time on a Wednesday, which is dollar wing day. Random lane closures on Broad made it a pain to get there. It is surrounded by rundown strip malls, and the access and parking are pretty bumpy. It's hard to get in: there are locked doors with buzzers, and it is not real clear which door you should use. There is a pickup door, very clearly marked, but the regular entrance is just a little portico, the entrance to the vets, so press one of the buzzers. Inside, it's a standard veterans hall. Dark, bar the main attraction, with tables, pool tables too, quiet in the afternoon. The wings part was pretty busy, with dine in and carry out customers. And I knew that, and I knew wings take a while, so I was prepared to wait. Service was excellent, friendly, helpful, from several people during my stay. And the food was excellent. I was going to get onion rings, but they said on Wednesdays they don't have room in the fryer for those. I was a little disappointed because I figured they probably have great onion rings. Oh well. So I got the pretzel bites. A fairly small order for seven dollars, but the best pretzel bites I've ever had, I think because they were deep-fried. (They're smaller than onion rings.) Hot and crispy on the outside, tender inside, with a good honey mustard sauce. You can also get ranch I think. And since wings were a dollar I wanted to get a bunch but I wasn't super hungry, so I got six. Regular wings, with the Alabama white sauce. Perfectly cooked, big, meaty, juicy wings, crispy on the outside, covered with sauce but not smothered. The sauce was a little smooth and creamy with a little heat from the horseradish, call it medium. Very good. Went well with the wings. The wings even plain would've been excellent. And they have dozens of sauces, a bunch of which I would like to try. Check their Facebook to make sure they're open. The last few months they have had some issues, which seem to be sorted out mostly. Allow yourself some time. Come on Wednesday and get as many wings as you can eat. Mm-mm. read more

Inside the vets building in the back right hand corner they do have the gate open but if u miss it like I did it's hard to get In u will need a key or knock hard enough and someone will open the door and u have to sign in and let them know ur there for the kitchen! Wednesday they have .50 wing night or it maybe Tuesday lol the cooks were cool and the lady at the front desk she was ok food was good and delicious the honey bbq was nasty! Decided I would hit Mean Mug Wings & Things today, it's $1 a wing day. I ordered some Cherry Smoke and some Honey BBQ plus I got Onion Rings. The wings here are always fresh never frozen. They have a nice crunchy coating and then they load on the perfect amount of sauce. The Onion Rings are homemade with a beer batter to a deep fried to a crunchy outer coating. Yummy!!! Super casual restaurant located inside of an Amvets. The menu was filled with a variety of burgers and wings, exactly what the name would imply. Bummed that they were out of fried pickles but their hand cut fries were great. Both their burgers and wings were fantastic. When I mentioned that the Cajun wings were a bit more savory than I had expected and requested a small side of Buffalo sauce to get some heavier vinegar flavor, they offered to bring me additional wings! I was already stuffed so a sample of the Buffalo was the perfect solution. Blown away by how good the food & service was today. I would start a GoFundMe to get them their own location! Truly the kindest owners that are so present and involved in their business which blew me away. I had tried to order boneless & they told me they only had bone-in. I was hesitant but they told me they would make them crispy and to my liking. I normally don't enjoy bone-in wings. They came out crispy and covered in Garlic Parm sauce which was UNREAL GOOD. My friend got the mild buffalo which he said was great and gave him a few tears. The sauces are so yummy and full of flavor. You can tell they're very fresh. Also the onion rings are AMAZING. I was starving and could only get through 6 wings and 1 onion ring before I was ready to burst. Don't sleep on this place. I wanted to spread the word on some great wings, and an overall great establishment. Last night, my wife and I decided to venture over to Mean Mug's Wings and Things and I'm glad we did. The wings were crispy but still juicy. Big difference between crispy and dry but they were cooked well. Over sever was great and even the cook came out to see how our food was and I've never seen someone so thankful and appreciative for our patronage, and it just made us feel good. Added bonus, $1 wing Wednesday and you can order any number you want. They have half a dozen dry rubs, and over 25 sauces. Oh, and the homemade blue cheese was fantastic, along with the wedge salad. It was a little tricky to find in. Non-descript amvets building, and you have to push a button and get buzzed in. It has kind of a moose club vibe, but we liked it. The have a pool table, dart board, a few tvs and kind of like a mini casino in the back. They had some kind of DJ booth, too. It's one those places that from the outside we were a little skeptical of, but we were very comfortable once we sat down. You can tell the crowd there all seems to know each other and get along. Lots of tables of guests were just talking with everyone, and we truly had a great experience. This is a prime example of why you should never judge a book by its cover. The staff were amazing. They are friendly and explained the menu and offered suggestions without hesitation. Also, the guy who creates the wing sauce came out and let us try a bunch of different kinds. You can tell that he's very passionate about his craft. The wings were very crisp and tasty. The sauce was wonderful. The whole experience has made us want to go back and try ALL of the sauces. Also, I feel like it's been forever since I've had a dining experience where I felt that the employees wanted to do a really good job, let alone go above and beyond... this place was staffed with hard workers with a positive outlook. First heard about Mean Mugs on Columbus Foodies FB page and decided to give it a try. I am so glad I did! The wings are the go to here. They have bone in, bone out, mixed drums and flats or for a small upcharge of $1 you can get all drums or all flats. Their drums are of extraordinaire size (DOES for Princess Bride fans), beating out every other wing place I have been to. The kicker on their wings is the number, variety and flavor profiles of their sauces. Some of my favorites are Asian Sticky, Nashville Peach, Orange Habanero and Smoky Cherry. I highly recommend them all! Go now on a regular basis because they are simply that good! $1 Wednesday Wings are a fabulous bargain, but the place is packed and you may have to wait a bit. It is worth it! I will eventually work my way through the rest of their menu, but their fries, onion rings, burgers, salads, etc. all get the eye test approval! read more

Have to brag on this place for a minute. I have ordered food from dozens of places over the years through Uber Eats and Door Dash, and have had plenty of occasions where the order wasn't right. My wife and I just moved here from Columbus and after traveling a couple weeks back, we ordered Mean Mugs for a MNF game. The food was fantastic, but it was missing the ranches and extra sauces we ordered. I called and spoke to Tammy about the hiccup and just told her I kindly wanted to let them know, and she was apologetic, but then her and her co-owner Mike reached out to me directly and said they wanted to make it right. They gifted us last night with our ENTIRE order, wings and all in order to go above and beyond to make sure we were going to become long time customer, which we will. In addition, when my order arrived to me an hour later....it was wrong. I asked for well done, flats, and dipping sauces. Absolutely the best wings in Columbus, with many choices of sauces and perfectly cooked. Wings don't look like they're from body builder chicken full of steroids, just the right size.
