We ordered takeout from this nearby vietnamese restaurant. The process was easy over the phone and it was ready for pickup in a reasonable amount of time , less than 30 min. We got: Spring rolls: i always end up getting this as a relatively healthy appetizer. While it was good, i would not say it's the best I've had.. but that wouldn't stop me from getting it again! Sesame chicken: the right amount of crunchiness and packs a lot of flavor! Vermicelli: similarly to the spring rolls, this was good but not the best I've had. I'm glad it's nearby though because I do love these vermicelli dishes for something light and tasty! In a little shopping center, you walk in the door to face a gorgeous aquarium - beautiful waving coral, kelp? and multi colored fish. Then it is a pretty plain dining area with a counter in front of the kitchen. But let me tell you their food is good. We both had the Egg Drop Soup. Yum! I added a little soy to mine but my wife did not want to mess it up. She had the General Tso's Chicken. She LOVED it. I tasted it and it was profoundly delicious! and the serving was so ample, she needed a To-Go box. I had the Szechuan Beef. I like it spicy so I added red chile and ate every morsel. I wanted to lick my plate! The beef was so tender you could easily bite an ample morsel off the chop sticks The veggies were cooked just enough to retain their raw color and still have a little crunch. My steamed rice was perfect-just sticky enough to use chop sticks. I ate every kernal. Our server didn't have much of a smile, but Robert provided EXCELLENT service without hovering. He catered to our requests for hot mustard and sweet sauce for our crispy egg rolls. And he immediately provided the chile and soy sauce I requested. I wanted to thank Mama, but she was so busy cooking for the full house, she couldn't take the time to leave her kitchen. Hmm. Guess that explains how our food came so quickly. We WILL be going back. Giving Me Con Bistro a 4/5 - nowhere near the quality back home in Little Saigon, but not bad by any means for Austin, Texas! Came hear with some friends post-golf sesh. This restaurant is a family favorite. We love the spring rolls with the generous portions and that special crunchy stick inside. My personal favorite is the lemon grass tofu, Mom likes the grilled shrimp. We always order the green beans XO for the table. So delicious. Some very thoughtful vegan entrees include Spicy Vegan Hue style Vietnamese noodle soup and the Vegan 512 Vermicelli. Of course many dishes can also be made without meat, but it's nice to have a vegetable based broth option. They also have a vegan option for fish sauce if you so desire. The portions are generous. Several of the dishes have a tofu option, such as the stir fries, curries, etc., however, the restaurant mentioned that they are made with oyster sauce and could not be made vegetarian... There are a few vegetarian options but nothing mind blowing. Met Rooster's mama for a recent lunch drop off. She had dined here previously and highly recommended it. Based on that, I started with the Bao Buns. The pork really packed an amazing punch with the spicy mayo, cilantro, and veggies. Ex and I haven't changed our dining ways much. Two more apps ordered. Food brothers from another mother in the form of springs rolls and egg rolls. Excellent dipping sauces on both dishes. Better than average average peanut sauce. Kiddo even at half of a non fried spring rolls for a change! Jenny went with her previous fave Hong Kong noodles while I tackled the General Tso's lunch option. Only complaint of the entire meal is the fried rice was a bit plain and lacked vegetable and seasoning. Above average egg drop too. Worthy of another trip for the apps alone. read more

I love Vietnamese food and haven't had it recently because I don't have a consistently great place nearby. A friend of mine recommended this place and I went there for lunch today. The first thing I noticed was an exceptionally clean and tidy restaurant, which is somewhat unusual for some of the Vietnamese Restaurants that I've eaten at. Service was good and my waitress Diana was very nice and friendly too. I had a grilled pork vermicelli bowl and was happy to get the veggies on the side as I don't like cucumber and sprouts. The pork was delicious! Grilled just perfectly. Not one bit of fat or grizzle and very tasty. The noodles and fish sauce were great too. The veggies on the side were obviously fresh and nicely cut. It was an exceptionally tasty bowl. I had an iced Vietnamese Coffee as well and it too was perfect. Just the right amount of condensed milk to make it just the way I like it. This place was pretty busy on a Saturday afternoon and rightly so. I'll be adding my person to their regular customer list immediately. read more

AMAZING PHO. Just. AMAZING. The real Vietnamese traditional style (the broth is on point). My brother brought me here that there is this amazing pho house he recently found, and he was right. I come here whenever I feel pre-sick (not gotten sick yet, but you know how you sense that pre-ill stage that you will get sick next day), I come over here and order a beef brisket pho with extra brisket (one time I also added extra noodle, and my stomach almost blown) and I can't be more satisfied than ever. This place immediately added to my "soul-comfort food" place. Whenever I want to eat gooooooooood pho, I come here. I have recommended the place to all over my connections, everybody have complimented how their pho is on point; not like those fake pho houses out here in Austin that try to pretend it is a pho and get you diarrhea. I love this place, and it's one of my go-to Vietnamese places to order takeout or delivery from. The staff have always been friendly. What I love most about Me Con Bistro is it has Hu Tieu dry style noodles, which not many Vietnamese places do, and the version here is really good. It's like a stickier noodle with a concentrated sauce and some broth on the side to wet it, and you eat it similar to the vermicelli bun. If you've never tried it, definitely get the dry one (I like the works, or just shrimp). The flavors and herbs are bold and a great change of pace to pho. The pho, vermicelli Bun, and Saigon Eggrolls are also solid. The egg rolls do always smell and taste like they've been fried in some flavored oil that feels kinda bacony. I don't mind it but if it's off-putting to you, keep that in mind. I've also started getting orders of just the beef and pho broths to sip on. Today, I also ventured out to try some of the Chinese / Chinese-American options. The sesame chicken lunch special is a good portion and really tasty. The sauce is sweet but not cloyingly so, and pairs well with the chicken and rice. I also got the crispy duck, which is pretty good. It's similar to what I'm used to with Cantonese BBQ except it's fried instead of roasted, which leads to some parts being drier. It also comes with some nuoc cham. I was avoiding trying these because sometimes it's hard for Asian restaurants to do different cuisines well (NYC ones always had some weird trifecta of cuisines - ex: Thai, Chinese, Japanese / Sushi - where only one of the three would be decent) but Me Con Bistro manages to do various dishes very well. There is overlap with Vietnamese and Cantonese/Chinese so it's a more natural fit to have these two coexist compared to others. read more

Despite this summer heat, I was craving some pho. Typically enjoyed as a dish to warm one up, it was a sure a delight to have today in this weather. I got the steak pho in the beef broth. The broth was very flavorful and delicious. It really clears up your senses and makes you feel warm inside. The steak was also good but I felt overall there was something missing in the dish that took away its 5 star. The service was very nice and polite and for the price ($12.50) it was pretty good. I would certainly go here again and try many more dishes from this place. I am so glad that there is a place to enjoy pho here in south Austin, especially on Brodie. read more

I hit a menu bomb ... but I suspect this is an okay place. What gives me confidence is a really first rate Vietnamese coffee - which was flavorful and bitter. I also like them working sriracha sauce into the lettuce and cabbage on the side to give it surprising and interesting kick. The menu bomb was a rice plate with sauteed shrimp and a fried egg. The shrimp were ho hum near tasteless, the fried egg was an unimpressive mess. So I mostly had rice with fish sauce dumped on it. However, the real test of a Vietnamese restaurant is the pho and the grilled pork. I haven't had either of those. So if I can borrow the lamest trope in academia ... I've been here a few times now for dine-in and take out, lunch and dinner. The service is always great especially Rebecca emven when they are busy. I've tried several things on their menu now, and it's the best Vietnamese food I've had in Austin. There's plenty of parking space in the parking lot so that shouldn't be a problem. The prices and portion sizes are really good, so you can get full without spending a whole lot. I will definitely keep coming back. read more

Been wanting to try this Vietnamese restaurant for awhile. It is hard to find a Vietnamese restaurant that I like. Nothing compares to my grandma's food. So I might be biased on viet food My honest opinion about this place is that it was decent. I can tell that they catered it to match American taste. The pork bao reminded me of like a fusion banh mi. The vermicelli bowl was decent. I wish it was a bit more flavorful and had more heat in it. The nuoc mam was not pungent enough for me. My grandma would also add coconut milk to it at home. The duck hu tieu soup was good for me. I can tell there's a twist to it. I liked it but my grandparents were not a big fan of it. They said it didn't taste right. All in all, I think this place is decent. And if you want a quick viet fixing, it suffices. If I go back I'll just get the hu tieu. read more

Service was excellent, the food was not. Moved to south Austin so on a search for a new go-to Asian restaurant that services dishes like General Tso, Sesame Chicken, Orange Chicken etc. The service is fantastic. The facility was clean. Music was a good level. It's the food that needs some help. I ordered General Tso chicken lunch special that comes with egg drop soup and a veggie egg roll. I also ordered pork egg rolls and crab cream cheese wontons. Only the steamed rice was hot. Everything else was either room temperature or slightly, maybe like-warm. The crab won tons were room temperature. When breaking open there was no steam, and the cream cheese was colder than room temperature. Just didn't cook long enough I suppose. I investigated the last 3 of them as I couldn't taste any crab (fake crab). One of the three pieces a small particle of what appeared to be the green stem of a green onion. Nothing that looked like, texture or visually, as anything other than floured cream cheese. Considering they cost $8.50 it's unacceptable I would never order them again. The egg drop soup was Luke warm. It had good flavor. Plenty of eggs. Had it been heated properly I would have been pleased. Pork egg rolls were, to my preference, smaller than optimal. There was some pork on them but not much, at least not as much to my tastes. The general Tso chicken, which I requested "spicy" had no heat at all--either "spicy" heat or temperature heat. Just room temperature. Without spiciness or being fresh from the wok it was very disappointing. I added white pepper to try to get some heat but it's not the same. The reviews are great, the service is great, so maybe I'm overly picky. It for my money, I'm going to keep up my journey and try a different restaurant next time I venture out for Chinese style food. read more

This spot is easy to miss since it is tucked away behind a gas station but I'm glad I found it. The General Tso's Chicken was easily some of the best I've had. Two huge scoops of steamed rice with about 10 ounces of chicken covered in a thin/crispy breading plus a tangy/spicy sauce for around $10 is a steal.
