My family and I love coming here since it's close by our apartment and the staff is always friendly. The beef pho is always so delicious and soothes the soul. My husband gets the orange chicken and I usually steal a few bites and the flavor is great. The fried rice could use a little more flavor on its own but usually adding some sriracha gets the job done. We usually end up coming on weekends and it's not typically much of a wait which is a shame because I feel this place should be way busier with how great the food is! The servers are very quick and friendly here at Me Con Bistro. For appetizers I had the egg rolls. They were crispy and my partner really enjoyed them. The fried rice here is plain but flavorful. There's not a lot in it but the taste is there. I'd add in extra vegetables if you'd like more. The meatball beef pho was great! The chicken pho has a fried garlic taste which isn't normal for pho. This is now my go to for Asian food in Austin. I was pleasantly surprised to see Shrimp Egg Foo Young on the menu. That's my favorite Chinese food dish. I couldn't believe they prepare it without gluten. It comes with fried or streamed rice. I haven't had foo young since I left Chicago 10 years. Bravo to the chef cause it was scrumptious! We dined at the restaurant which is pretty casual, you seat yourself. The staff was friendly and prompt. The wait for our food was under 15 minutes. I think the chicken was lacking crispiness but that could be due to the fact that we couldn't eat it immediately (spent about 15 minutes in the car after picking it up). Finally, a place in south Austin that can accommodate vegans/vegetarians. We got the veg pad Thai with extra sauce, veg egg rolls and lemongrass tofu bao. All 3 were excellent. The service was fantastic too. I placed a phone order on Saturday evening and got a pleasant gentleman who explained how they could tweak the dishes on the menu to accommodate our dietary restriction. The inside looked nice and there were many people dining in that night. He also told me about Java Noodles which is their sister restaurant in east Austin that has more Thai items on their menu and recommended which items I would enjoy based on my preferences. We will be returning to try more! Me Con is in the complex right behind Taco Bell on William cannon and Brodie. And there is an Indian grocery store in the same complex too so it's easy to get your Asian fix! read more

We loved it here! The ambiance is fairly casual so I would not take anyone on a romantic date here but it is perfect for a casual night out! Of course most Asian places have veggie options but this place was pretty good about labeling their menu on if the item was vegetarian. They also had vegan items. The dish I had was a vegan noodle dish that had a ton of veggies and a semi sweet carrot pickle sauce that was actually pretty good. Another thing I liked about this place was that they served mixed drinks, which I feel like not all Asian restaurants do so that was a plus. Lastly my favorite thing was that the waitress was really helpful and knew a lot about the menu and about suggesting items that you may like. Excellent customer service here. The staff tag team and everyone helps everyone. We started with salted Edamame and it was a nice portion. I had chicken pho and have enough left over for lunch tomorrow and it's so good I'll eat it again! My daughter is a BIG eater and had the chicken fried rice and pho and loved both, she had enough for leftovers, which she normally doesnt care for and ate them again. By far and away, their food is always fresh and hot when it's delivered and I've never had a bad meal out of the million times I've ordered from them (I wish that was an exaggeration, lol). On to the food! My favorite dish is the Grilled Pork Rice or Grilled Pork Bun depending on my mood. The pork is super flavorful and tender. My husband loves their Sesame chicken - it's pretty good, but at Mi Con, I think their strength is their Vietnamese dishes. Other highlights are the Hong Kong noodles and crispy duck. For appetizers, I LOVE the saigon rolls. They're a step up from standard egg rolls, with fresh herbs and lettuce you wrap them up with. I also like to get the grilled pork bao buns from time to time - they are the perfect, pillow soft buns you can stuff with grilled pork, herbs and a tasty sauce. Everything I've had from there so far was delicious. It was all take out too. Their grilled shrimp is superb, really tasty. It's really good in the spring rolls and the fried rice. I'm sure it's great in other dishes as well. The reason for 4 stars is that their curry didn't have enough of the actual curry, felt a little dry but the flavors were very good. No options for veggie broth Pho. However, their vegan spicy noodle soup is great and is kind of served like a Pho, with all the ingredients. It was confusing on the online order menu because it wasn't under "soup" and nowhere did it say that it was actually a soup. Just said Vegan Spicy Noodles. It was delicious nevertheless. Well, I must say I was floored. This new and tiny place had some really good flavors! I came in about 1115 in the afternoon, there was plenty of room, and zeroed in on a table next to a gentleman who was diving into his food. I immediately had wait staff at my table and I took the menu, but pointed at his plate and said I wanted EXACTLY what he was eating as it looked and smelled delicious. It was. I ordered the Canadian Egg Noodles "Mi" with shrimp, egg noodles fried shallots, garlic oil, scallions, cilantro, dry style. Excellent choice! I did not go the Pho route or try the deserts, but I surely will return in the future. I saw others coming in and ordering other items, so I put on my best pitiful face which will sometimes get me a "wanna try a bite?". No offers, so I must return on my own. Good Vietnamese food is hard to find in South Austin. This place is quickly becoming one of my go-to places. I've tried the pho, the Canadian noodles, and the rice plate. All of them were good. I'm currently addicted to their Bangkok chicken wings! It's a great combination of flavors. It was weird at first but then now, I crave it every few days. Such a unique flavor! The Works rice plate was really good. I normally don't get rice plates. I stick to the noodle soups but thought I would give it a try for something different. Excited to hear a new Vietnamese place opened in South Austin. Came on a Thursday evening around dinner time and it wasn't busy. Greeted right away by a very courteous and attentive waiter Jeremiah. Caught me off guard as he was in basketball shorts but it just tells you how laid back this place is. Doesn't bother me! Very simple modern decor and clean! Roughly 15 tables or so. Combo Pho was flavorful and on point!also had the dry egg noodles combo and it was perfectly marinated. Not too sweet like most places. The menu is small but you can see they take pride in putting quality in each dish. Oh and awesome for once to go to a restaurant and no TV to be seen! They have always gotten our order correct, including the little extra details, like when we request chili oil. They've always been super quick in delivering too. As for recommendations- their Hanoi spring rolls are the best spring rolls I've ever had here in Austin. I love The Works Bun Bo, and my husband loves their pho.
