Took my old-ish car (2010) for an oil change and checkup. During the service, it was discovered that the serpentine belt was wearing out, which wasn't much of a surprise (again, old-ish car). When I got the news, I braced myself for the price, but was pleasantly surprised that the belt was just a couple hundred bucks! He had it fixed up within about an hour and I was ready to go. Our truck's battery stopped charging after gassing up in Paso Robles on our pre-Christmas trip between Oregon and San Diego. We were able to get a new alternator from NAPA and MD Automotive was able to get us in immediately to do the replacement while we waited. Unfortunately, the failing alternator took out the onboard computer and there was a 45 day wait for replacements from the factory. These guys let us leave our truck with them as we rented a car to continue our journey. We were able to pick up our truck in February and it works better than ever. They are life savers. Our break light went out while we were doing a road trip from Santa Cruz to Los Angeles. We pulled over at a gas station and I tried to fix the light, but the outer piece would NOT come off and I was afraid of breaking it. We drove around looking for an auto shop and happened to come across this place. We pulled in and asked the, I assume, boss if he could change our break light for us. He got one of his mechanics do to it right there on the spot! They didn't have the correct bulb so they ordered it and got it sent over within 5 min. We asked how much we owed them and he said nothing. THAT is excellent, honest, and just outright extraordinary service. We were so blown away that we had to tip the guy. It's too bad that I don't live nearby, or else I would be giving this place my business. I'm always looking to support businesses that care more about the customer than the money! read more

I had taken my Trooper in a few years ago for a diagnostic. While they do explain stuff real well, the charge was ridiculous. $175 for the diagnostic and $75 for a set of 6 spark plug wires, which didn't even help. Needless to say, I sold that car. If I could give Craig and his guys 10 stars, I would. This is the best auto shop in SLO County. Craig is very straightforward, honest, beyond knowledgeable, and has never overcharged me a single penny. He fixes it right, the first time, every time. I discovered Craig's shop years ago when I needed a smog. That was it. I have never had anyone else even LOOK at my vehicles since then. I've called him with the stupidest crap several times, and he patiently explains and tells me to come to the shop. Like right now. He drops everything to throw a code reader on my car, or test drive it to make sure everything is normal. Or like today.... My alternator goes out yesterday. I get a jump and call Craig. This man is booked, solid. I mean to the gills and beyond. Know what he says to me? "Bring it in, 9am tomorrow. I'll fit it in." I show up, 9am on the dot. He has 4 customers ahead of me already. Racks full. I'm marvelling at the fact he told me to bring the car down at all. "It won't be done until sometime after lunch" Craig says rather apologetically... Did he forget he's doing me a huge favor? Pfffttt... "Just give me a call Craig. You're the best!" Then he says something that I thought about for a good while.... I discovered MD Automotive about a year ago, I have been back twice for oil changes. I keep going back because they are so nice and very timely. I took my van in today for a smog check. The technician noticed that one of my breaks lights was out and took the time to replace the bulb for me, and did not charge me for it. Would not reccomend. Went for a smog a lil bit ago... took off work on a Monday to take it in. Upon arriving the guy at the counter told me the guy who smogs was out that day. I asked why nobody called me and he just shrugged his shoulders with no answer. Will never go back.or reccomend at all with service like that....... again, this did happen a while ago... not just a few weeks ago. read more

So a long story but worth it. I have a Chrysler. So this story began at Cole Chrysler. I told them my front left end is making some kind of random squealing sound. They said it was part of the suspension. $500 later same sound. Then it was some $1k plus part. I didn't believe them and went to the Chrysler dealer in Paso Mullahey. I also told them my AC and Heater periodically work maybe every 1 out of 3 days it blows. At this point I also said I'm pretty sure the noise is the wheel bearing on the drivers side. Mullahey tells me man we've got our best mechanic in the shop on it and you'll be coming to us from now on. So anyways, Mullahey later calls and says the refrigerant was a bit low so the blower went into safety mode and they filled it back up and now it works. Now I'm no mechanic but I've had plenty of cars that went low and the blower always worked. Particularly so it would heat the car. This mechanic assured me I'm wrong when I went in. They also said the noise in front was ground effects dragging and they pulled them bacK and tied them off and they did this all for about $500. Anyways so I'm not convinced but I start the car and sure enough the AC worked. It was obviously the 1 day in 3. And before I was able to go on my trip that week I had to replace the front wheel bearing assembly. Because obviously if that was their best mechanic then I'll do it myself. Before I did it I called the service manager and said hey remember that ground effects which wasn't the wheel bearing. Well it was the wheel bearing and I'm about to change it out myself so I can go on skiing trip. Is it under warranty. He says nope. Not a sorry or nothing about wasting my money. I'll never go here again for a service. To make a long story short I came to this garage today. I tell them my story and they diagnose it within an hour or so. They give me a quote for a little under $500. I go in to pick it up shortly after the quote and they say hey. We got the price down for you it's now $403. I've generally worked on my own stuff my entire like because of experiences with clowns at places like Cole and Mullahey. But I'm now considering never turning a wrench again because of these guys. Trust, quality, speed, thrifty. What more can a guy ask for. You guys are amazing! read more

Worst experience ever since moving to Paso Robles. We went to MD Auto for a smog check but quickly discovered that they did not want to deal with an out of area vehicle. After five minutes on the DMV web site the guy at the counter started yelling at us saying he was done and wasn't going to deal with this and instructed us to leave. We were completely shocked, we did nothing to warrant this treatment. Two days later we called and asked to speak to Craig the owner but never received a call back. read more
