I hope this review helps raise Carrillo Automotive's rating from a 4.5 but they deserve a 5.0 based on my experience with them these past few days. I'm well aware some mechanical problems are hard to resolve which was echoed by a nephew that I consulted with who owns an auto repair shop. I'm also aware labor costs are much higher for diagnostic work than for the actual repair of the problem. Having said that I assumed the final bill would be around $1000-$1200 as it took a fair amount of time to narrow down the problem to the vehicle's computer, then replace the computer and program it. Instead the total bill came to $688, with only a little over $300 being attributed to the cost of labor, and this was after tests were run on the battery, the starter was removed and replaced when it appeared it was the cause of my car's intermittent starting problem and the computer was installed and programmed. My car now runs like a champ. I don't live in this area but often visit family here. Now I know exactly where to take my vehicle for any repair and maintenance it might need when I come up. read more

He quickly pumped some refrigerant in, diagnosed an impending issue, and had us down the road again all in good order. Very professional, extremely polite and courteous. The plastic undercarriage of my car came loose and was dragging on the road while I was out doing errands. I stopped by to see if it could be reattached and within 15 minutes I was driving away with it fixed. I watched through the waiting room window as they lifted up the car, took off the broken part and reattached the rest into place. Turns out the part that they took off wasn't critical so the whole part didn't need to be replaced and I could drive as is. Carrillo actually found the problem and fixed it for way less than the other guys quoted me on work I didn't need. I've been a half dozen or more times now. I have a cheap backyard mechanic that I regularly use. But have relied on Carrillo for anything more complicated. Juan Carrillo and his staff were our Knights in Shining Armour!! Our van broke down on the freeway at night, while on business in Paso Robles. We were able to get the car down the freeway towards our hotel by starting and stopping for several miles. We took a wrong exit and found ourselves on a dark street full of automotive shops...all closed since it was after 7 pm...and then we saw a light on in one of the shops and walked up to see if they could loan us a screwdriver to try to get our van working. Even though they were clearly done for the day and enjoying a great BBQ, Juan said to bring the van up the driveway and he'd take a look at it. He not only told us what was wrong (a cam sensor), he called up a parts store and went and got the part minutes before they closed, then he installed it!! In our opinion, Juan Carillo and his staff went over and beyiond the call of duty to help us. We can't speak highly enough of their friendliness and professionalism.
