I dread anytime I need service on my Mercedes. It's normal, of course, to need some type of maintenance, but OMG, it's so so expensive. This time, I had an "A4 Service" message on my panel, so I looked for a local place other than the dealer, which is very inconvenient in SLO. Well, Yelp came to my rescue. Auto Limits shows with 5 stars, and it's located so close to me. I called them, made an appointment, and they gave me a reasonable quote. That morning, I dropped it off, and John said it would be ready by 2pm. Well, before 2pm, i received a call that it could be picked up. Not only that, it was nearly a $100 lower than the estimate "...because it was checked, and wasn't needed"...wow. I love it. A bearing froze and the main belt broke on Memorial Day returning to LA from SF in the middle of nowhere on I5 and we found Auto Limits on Yelp. We had the tow driver take us there and spent the night in the car. The next day when they found out our situation, they got to work right away and had the vehicle repaired by early afternoon. They really saved us a ton of grief because we absolutely had to get back to LA and we were able to do it in our vehicle instead of a rental because they fixed it so fast! Don't Pad the bill. When they quote a price they should stick to it and not raise the price of the repair when you come to pickup the car. And when they're already into it look around for what else has been effected instead of waiting for you to come back so they can charge you twice for a diagnostic on something they already knew about or suspected the first time. Our 2018 Mercedes Benz GLE 350 4-Matic developed a grinding sound in the left rear when braking. We immediately knew where to take it for repair as we'd been there before and were treated right. That place was Auto Limits! We made an appointment and dropped it off a few days later. We got a call a few hours later - the left rear brake was metal on metal, the rest of the pads were at 20% and should be replaced. We were quoted a fair price for brake service on a Benz and were told it would be ready the next day. The following afternoon we got a call that our car was ready. Upon arrival to pick up, we learned that the labor for the rear brakes (quoted from the pricing manual) was higher than the actual labor time needed, so our final cost was $250.00 less than the original estimate! What a nice belated Christmas present! They could have charged the original quote and we wouldn't have known the difference! That's why we continue to do business with the honest mechanics at Auto Limits! That's why I recommend them to my friends! read more

My gas door suddenly got stuck on a road trip with my pup and the 100 degree+ heat didn't make me any less anxious. I called and asked what the cost would be, and the kind human on the other end said it would be free . Within 5 minutes, aforementioned kind human popped it open, showed me how to do it myself, and suggested some Macguyvering to fix the problem myself without spending more time/money on it. It probably wasn't a big deal to him, but being a solo young woman of color...it meant a lot to me. DON'T DEAL with this GUY. I had a headlight that would turn on and turn off within seconds, I called and he said he could replace the bulb $125 each, plus one our labor$125, it might work, I told him I had bought the bulb on Amazon $29 for a set, and it is the correct part. $125 for one hour of work, which is actually 15 minutes of work. I brought my car in and left it he called and said the bulb did not fix it and now I have no power going to the headlight. For another hour fee he can troubleshoot it. He called back and said the voltage is ok now, was it a fuse? "No the fuses are ok". "It is fixed but the headlight is still not working". I can tray to replace the ballast but the dealer dosen't carry the ballast only they want to sell the headlight assembly for $3000, but I got a guy in Lompoc or someplace south that can get me the ballast for $375. Plus another Hour of labor at $125. I said no pack it up Ill come pick up the car. My headlight does not work still and I am out $250. I went on eBay and bought a set of Ballasts and igniters for $145 and fixed it myself, by removing the front bumper and grill assembly, 15 minutes and removing the headlight assembly, less than 5 minutes and replaced the ballast 10 minutes and reinstalled the headlight assembly and tested it fine it works, so I replaced the headlight bulb on the drivers side also 5 minutes. I put the grill and bumper assembly back on 20 minutes and its done for$175 for both headlights and about an hour total time in the driveway no lift no experience. I looked up the repair on you tube. DON'T DEAL with this GUY. read more

On a trip from the S.F. Bay Area to Orange County, the borrowed 2002 Subaru I was driving developed a problem just outside Paso Robles. When I finally realized what was going on, it was after 5 PM. I looked up Subaru service online and Auto Limits came up. Managed to limp the car there and left it in the lot overnight. Talked to Martel the next morning. He was swamped but said he would get to it. From my description he had an idea of what the problem was... IF the parts were available. Later he called and said he would get the car done by the end of the day. In fact, the car was ready by 3:30 that afternoon. Martel is my new hero! read more

These guys are AMAZING! I don't know a ton about cars, but every time I have been there, the employees take their time to explain to me any issues, as well as anything that they recommend for my car. I never feel like they are pressuring me into getting unnecessary things done and they are so honest about pricing. They even charge less if they use less oil, which I have never heard of before! Also, my husband brought his car in about a year ago because there was a warning light on. After a full day of searching and problem solving, they didn't end up charging him a thing because it was only a faulty light. Honest guys with a wonderful work ethic. There are three words that describe Auto Limits in a nutshell: outstanding customer service. I'm originally from the Bay Area and have been living in North SLO County for about roughly 2 years now. I've had no success finding a mechanic that won't screw me over the second they have the chance or who was reliable and dependable when I needed them to be. Until I came across Auto Limits on a recommendation from Bill's Towing & Transport Services. They immediately took in my car a 1997 Geo Metro (stop laughing, I know!) when they were quite busy and within a few days it was fixed. It turns out the reason why it was giving me so many problems was because of a converter issue. Now because it's a Geo the parts aren't the easiest to find anymore (there's a reason why they stopped making these cars afterall) so they set about making a part for my car. Which is fantastic. Lemme get to why I will always give my business to Auto Limits: Due to unfortunate circumstances I haven't been able to pick up my car from them in roughly 2 1/2 weeks. Did they mind? No! Frank (the owner) was more than happy to help me out with my situation and even told me it wasn't a problem that my car was still on their property. He's been so understanding and accommodating of my situation that I knew in that second they were going to get my business for as long as I was on the Central Coast. I've already recommended them to all of my friends for not only their very reasonable rates, but extraordinary, above and beyond customer service. Seriously, check them out! This place should be the only place you take your car to to get fixed. I will update this review after I've driven my car (still haven't picked it up yet) to comment on how the car runs and if there are any issues after it has been fixed. I had just taken over the driving at Soledad on the way to a getaway weekend at Avila Beach, when I glanced down - the temperature gauge was in the red zone. We pulled off a nervous mile later at a rest stop and called our local mechanic for help. (The car had been serviced just three days earlier.) He stepped us through some checks and we could almost hear him scratching his head. "Better find a mechanic to check it out hands-on" was the best he could do. Happily, my smart phone coughed up a half-dozen auto shops in Paso Robles, about 15 minutes down 101. Auto Limits was closest and had good reviews. I called and sure, Randy could take a look. We wheeled in and I immediately felt confident we were in good hands. Randy did a thorough check of the cooling system, found no flaws, then checked the computer system, rebooted the system, and Presto! everything reverted to normal. (Who knew cars could be rebooted?) The cost for restoring our peace of mind was quite reasonable. We were on our way and still managed to reach our getaway hotel just at check in time. read more

Maybe it was a new mechanic or something, but 3 different times to fix an oil leak and being charged twice for it is wrong. The first estimate even said that there was slight seepage from the oil gasket, so why not fix the gasket the first time? Great service at great prices. I needed to have my car repaired so that it would pass the smog check. It was diagnosed when it failed its smog check. The smog check place gave me an estimate that seemed extremely high so I called Auto Limits who had done some work on it years ago and they quoted me an exceptionally reasonable price, hundreds less than the original estimate. I felt like the other mechanic was trying to take advantage of me because I am a woman but I never felt that way at Auto Limits. They are fair in price and do excellent work. I have lived with a recurrent problem for nearly two years. My GMC duramax would hard start nearly every morning. Once running it was okay. I went to four "mechanics" over this time and no one could end the problem. Finally, I went to Auto Limits. I believe I met a Maartel (?) and he went to what he felt was the heart of the problem. Randy is an exceptional human being! Our truck conked out on us over 300 miles from home. We thought for sure the engine has blown or something equally as horrifying. We ended up in a parking lot next to this shop at about 5:30 pm, after closing time. I walked over anyway and the owner Randy was still there. He graciously offered to take a look, did a diagnostic and it was a misfiring plug that had cracked. Even though it was well past closing this awesome guy went and got a new plug and installed it for us. He refused to take anything more than $20 for his time and work! 10 Stars for sure I don't know too many shops who take walk ins but they did as my AC fitting was leaking no cold air 102% in Paso Robles on my from the Bay Area to Pismo.
