John is the best. He was patient with me to explain everything regarding the engine light coming on. Called about the problem, he explained that he was extremely busy but come by and he would check it out. He was so kind to look at it and have a technician reset controls. I was stressing out so much and he gave me some piec of mind. Thank you again John for changing a bad situation into the pleasant/relaxing afternoon. You're the best. read more

John has that rare combination of technical knowledge and friendliness to customers that can only come from a lifetime of professionalism. Straightforward and always at a reasonable price. Can't say enough good things about a good honest mechanic! read more

I was told that I needed new struts on my Camry by another repair shop out of the area. Went to see John as recommended by family and friends. I explained my previous diagnostic to John. He told me I didn't even have struts. My car was fine. He did an oil change and a few other things for a very nominal price. Upon returning home I dropped my keys under the seat and couldn't retrieve them. I returned to John where proceeded to get the necessary tolls and found my keys at no charge. I knew he had an excellent reputation but he went above and beyond. Very nice shop and super, honest service. I would recommend John for any work on your foreign car. Thank you John. read more

We've been taking our vehicles to John for years, he offers fast and great quality work. John's Imports truly has the best prices in town!

I brought my 2015 Honda CR-V to John's because it was running very rough. After dropping it off, the team quickly addressed the issue. I was impressed by their professionalism and expertise. Recommended! read more

John's an honest and straightforward mechanic. Happy to find such a great shop for my car.

This week was my first experience with JIAC. I couldn't rave enough about them. Customer service, attention to detail and communication all on point. Will be using them for all of my future vehicle needs. read more

Best auto care in town. I moved to Paso a few years ago and John is now the only place I will take my car. He always personally calls me and takes the time to explain options for my vehicle but also what to expect my car may need in the upcoming year. Super helpful for planning but also keeping my car with 100,000 miles on it running like new. read more

Update to my 2017 review . . . John remodeled his shop the beginning of 2018 and boy is it nice. So nice to hang out when your car is being serviced. I was referred to John by the local O'Reileys auto parts. I was having battery issues & starting problems after having bought a new battery...they checked my 2015 Honda CR-V out thoroughly & ran tests & checked fuses & came to the decision it was in the electrical system & would require expensive work.. John was right. I later learned this model & year of crv has electrical issues that will drain every battery I replace & Honda won't fix & there's no recall unfortunately even though there should be.. John was more than fair in his diagnostic tests & said he'd help me if I got stranded somewhere.. very nice & very helpful.. read more

We can't say enough good things about this place! We were travelling over the July 4th weekend and the service light came on in our Toyota Prius. We spoke with Kevin and he was able to take us in the same day and do the diagnostic testing. Turned out it was a coolant control value that could cause major overheating on our drive back to LA. We made our way to the dealership to have it replaced. Kevin didn't even charge us for this! His friendliness and professional demeanor put us an ease and made for a great experience. If we lived in the area, he'd be our mechanic of choice! read more

I have been bringing my car to John's for many decades. He is honest and the work is quality work. He has worked on our old cars and our new cars and I am always happy with his work. When my children come to visit they bring their cars to his shop also. Thanks so much for always being there for us. You have to live forever and never retire! read more

John runs this top-notch business with his great crew-Keith, Justin and Debbie- like the best new-version of an 'old-school' auto care shop- state-of-the-art diagnostics and seasoned, highly skilled, detail-oriented mechanics. In 46 years (and 7 states) of having my cars and trucks maintained and repaired at countless other businesses, John's is the best shop I've ever come across, period. Everyone is friendly and professional- Debbie keeps the front of the shop humming and out back John, Keith and Justin keep customers' vehicles running the way they should. I've been a satisfied customer for over five years and would recommend these folks to anyone looking for trustworthy, honest, skilled and reasonably-priced auto care. As someone who cares for his wife at home, is a Dad to a son with Autism and only one car in the family, keeping our ride running right and safe is as crucial as it gets. John & Company have never let us down. I trust very few people with my life and my family's lives. But I trust these guys. Our biggest regret when we move out of state next year is that we can't take these guys with us! read more

This shop is great! Keith went the extra mile to accommodate me even when it was near closing time. He understood my plight ~ a business traveler driving from Northern Cal to L.A. trying to get home to his honey but may have to stay at a hotel an extra night if he can't find a repair shop to fix the headlights before it gets dark ~ Keith came through with flying colors! He figured out what was wrong with my headlights and I was back on the road within 20 minutes! I was ecstatic. Kudos to Keith! Thanks so much. You guys are the best!!! Joe S. My daughter purchased a vehicle from John which he had refurbished and had given her a verbal warranty. She commutes from Paso to SLO. The car started to overhead on the drive. She took it back to John and he took it in, worked on some minor needs and she took it back. Unfortunately, it still persisted on overheating. After John kept inspecting the engine and working on it he decided that it must be a leak in the head gasket. Even though he was completely booked, he took the car in, pulled the engine and heads. It was as he suspected, a small pin hole in the gasket. He replaced everything, redid the heads, installed the engine in less time than he had estimated. Upon my daughter picking up the vehicle, he informed her that he was covering the cost of the repairs, all the repairs. I don't imagine many shops doing this. I cannot recommend John and his shop highly enough. The shop is immaculate, the work is top notch and timely. If you have any type of Asian vehicle please consider at least stopping by and talking to John to get an estimate. It will definitely be worth your time. read more

John treated my fiancé and I phenomenally today! He's intelligent, showed genuine care and gave us advice dealerships would not offer. He saved us money (which is most appreciated through this pandemic) and treated us like family. I am grateful to John and his team for helping my daughter get back on the road home after she was involved in a hit and run accident there in Paso Robles. It would have been $2,500 to tow her car back home, so we are very thankful to this shop for all they did to make sure her car was drivable the 6 hour drive home. They even fixed her door which wouldn't open. And all this for such a small fee! Being a worried parent so far away, I just can't thank them enough! God bless you for your kindness and caring!! Highly recommend!! read more

I see that one of my friends, Catherine I., already wrote about the kindness and excellent service that John showed our friend when she had car trouble yesterday. I wanted to chime in to say how happy we were that John took the time to look at our friend's car that was making a loud grinding noise. She needed to get it checked out before driving back to the Bay Area. It was a holiday weekend, and John already had a busy schedule that day, but he took the time to help us out by taking the wheel off to figure out what was causing the noise. He discovered that a small rock caused the grinding sound. We were relieved that she didn't have a major problem, and we were so grateful that John took the time to help our friend get back on the road safely. I HIGHLY recommend John's Import Auto Care to any client in the Paso area or anyone traveling through and needs expert auto care from someone who cares about his customers and takes the time to help people. Thank you, John! You helped us end our weekend on a very happy note! If I lived closer, I would definitely bring my car to you!! read more

I took my older Toyotas (Supras and Corollas) here for over 6 years until I moved to Georgia. Otherwise, I'd still be taking them to John's! John is professional, knowledgeable, and passionate about cars, and he's also very friendly and honest with reasonable prices for the work. He hires employees who have excellent work ethic as well. There were times when he went above and beyond what I expect from a mechanic, from his generosity on not charging me for little jobs to saving me a heap on other occasions. For instance, my home state Tennessee doesn't have smog checks for registration, and the check engine light kept coming on our Corolla for an expensive but relatively unnecessary repair when its California registry came due. Tennessee doesn't require smog checks, so he agreed that it would be fine and much cheaper for us to go ahead and register it via mail in TN instead of doing the repair (and keep an eye on it just in case) since we were moving again anyway. It made the cross-country trip just fine and is still rolling strong despite the light and tiny oil leak. My 1985 Supra also made the trip and is still rolling strong, too! read more

We had a recent time of sudden car trouble in bad weather. John and Keith at John's Imports helped us immensely. John advised us and they made room for us. My wife and I came to Paso for a nice relaxing week, and then the car died! John and his team got us in and fixed the car up super fast. They were honest and fair in all of our conversations. I own a 1991 Toyota Land Cruiser, and John's has always done a great job. Being the owner of a 20 year-old vehicle, I can always count on having a couple of unexpected issues pop up every year. John is very personable, won't BS you on price quotes or service time, and has done an outstanding job. From doing a full head-gasket and cylinder head machining job (about $1600) to re-attaching the grounding cables for my battery ($46 or about 1/2 hour labor), his work has been top-notch and each time I have gotten my vehicle back running flawlessly. Only reason John's doesn't get 5 stars is because he tends to take a decent amount of time on the repairs and issues (3 1/2 weeks for the head gasket job), but it's a very small operation and I'd rather have someone take the time to do it right than rush through it and do a shoddy job. Highly recommended. read more

Very polite and friendly customer phone service, and I agree with a previous review that this automotive repairman seems like a "straight shooter," he was very upfront and honest about how much time and money a repair will take. read more

Horribly unprofessional and quite honestly criminal. They charged me over $400 to tell me they couldn't work on my car. They said my transmission needed to be replaced and that they took my wheels off to find that out. I took my car to another mechanic who fixed my clutch, the only thing that needed to be fixed, and said the wheels had obviously not been touched. The owner yelled at me and my mechanic when we asked about it. Avoid this place like the plague!!! read more

If you had a brother that was an excellent mechanic, you would like to take your car to him. But you probably don't, I don't, but John is like that trusted brother. He does great work, talks to you about what needs to be done now, and what can wait, and doesn't charge an arm and a leg. Very trustworthy. It is such a relief to find someone to go to without fear and trembling. I can't say enough good about him. When we first came to town I had a friend at church that used to work for him and said, "He's good!" It's proved true for me for years. read more

I own a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder, and have been taking it here for maintenance for years. John is a straight-shooter and a mechanic that I can trust, which in the automotive industry is unfortunately less common than it should be. I have taken several vehicles to John for routine maintenance, repair, and inspection prior to buying (which in 2 instances, he prevented me from buying some major headaches!) JIAC has done solid work time and again and I hold his character and business in a very high regard. I have been recommending this guy for years and will continue to be a loyal customer. Just had my Mazda 3 in for brakes that were squeaking and a transmission fluid change. Got a call from John a little after I had dropped the car off and he explained that my brake pads still had about 75% life left and that maybe the squeak was from dust getting wedged between the pad and rotor or the rotors getting a little glazed. Only charged me for half the labor that I had expected and got me dialed in. Could have easily just swapped the pads and rotors and never told me a word about that. What a stand up shop. Forgot to mention that he also gave me a $10 coupon on my service without me even asking for it! I will be taking all of my vehicles here for service and he has gained a lifelong customer for being an honest mechanic. Highly recommended to anyone in the Paso Robles area. -Trevor read more

Yesterday (Sept 6th) as I parked at SLO Costco (came from Paso Robles) I noticed a bunch of grease inside my front passenger wheel well, and on the passenger side doors. I didn't see anything obvious (torn CV boot), but today (Sept 7th) decided to get an expert opinion. I got on the phone with John's Import Auto Care, and got a very quick, no waiting appointment. I brought it in immediately, they got my old 2000 4x4 Toyota 4Runner up on the lift, and determined that I must have run over a grease tube or something similar. Out the door with no charge for the inspection! Thanks so much to John and your technicians as well. I really appreciate it! Dave C. Paso Robles, CA read more

Out-of-towner that by sheer luck (with the help of Yelp reviews) we found John's Import Auto Care. My friend's car started to have an awful grinding sound. When my car started making awful sounds, I knew I couldn't drive for 3 hours and make it home safely. John's auto repair came highly recommended and I can see why. It was a holiday weekend, and he had a week's worth of reservations but he was willing to take a look at my car. He quickly determined what was wrong, fixed it and I was on my way in less than an hour. I am so grateful for his professionalism and kindness. I would trust him with any car repairs and recommend him to anyone in the area or anyone like myself, who needs a trustworthy, car repair opinion when out of town. read more

My wife and I were driving north on US 101 in our 2001 Acura MDX when the check engine light lit up. We had scheduled visits with friends on our way from Los Angeles to our new home on Orcas Island, WA. Our thoughts were "There goes the schedule" and "We just had extensive mechanical work done; how can this be happening?" Peggy looked up some car service places and got on the phone. One that was booked up referred us to John's. We called and were told to come right over. In this car, if you don't tighten the gas cap a bunch of clicks, the check engine light can go on; I told Keith that we had checked that and it was not the case. Keith got into the car and held down (I think) both of the buttons for resetting the trip odometers. The check engine light went off. Keith told us that he had suspected that after our mechanics in LA had done the work, they had failed to reset the check engine light, thus he was able to turn it off this way. All this took less time than it took to write about it. I asked Keith if we could pay him for saving our day with his expertise; he said no. read more

John was referred to me by one of my clients, and after 2 years of great service, I wouldn't go anywhere else! He's honest and fast, and most importantly....knows his stuff.
