Stopped in to see if they could help me at all- he wrote down the codes and even informed me that my vehicles make and model had a "campaign" for the specific issue as so many of us had this issue!! He quoted me for that specific issue & even quoted me for a battery because thats also going to need replaced. His quotes are also significantly more lower priced than the dealership itself. BEST SHOP EVER!!!!!!! EVER. I was in town for a bachelorette party when my check engine light suddenly came on in the middle of a 3-hour drive. I called in a panic with only about 45 minutes before I absolutely had to leave and asked if there was any chance they could work a miracle. They got my Jeep in immediately, diagnosed the issue as worn spark plugs, completed the repair, and had me back on the road in time. They truly saved the entire weekend. My wife , and I are so happy that we started taking our vehicles to APS. Currently, we have four vehicles that need servicing. Most recently we just had an oil change and a smog job for our Hyundai Elantra GT. I was completely floored when Nancy called me and told me that it need to have the cabin air filter changed. Broke down while passing through town--not only did they not hesitate when I asked if we could be towed there, they were very thorough--ended up being just a battery and not an alternator--made sure before sending us on our way because they knew the distance we were traveling and the heat conditions. I ended up having a coolant leak in my van and when I called them first thing in the morning and mind you they open at 7:30. I was just hoping that they could get my car in right away well the guy on the phone told me to bring it in that morning. I was greeted by someone who was friendly . I'm usually pretty nervous having to go to a mechanic shop but, with APS I didn't feel Nervous at all once I walked in. They had to replace a plug and do a radiator flush on my van. APS had it done by the afternoon when most places would take their time! The price was way less than what we were hoping for. I called Jesse to make an appointment to replace my water pump. He was able to get me in the next working day! He was very helpful and knowledgeable. Also I needed a smog check done. He preordered my water pump. The mechanic replaced the pump and serpentine belt. He also smogged my car. The cost of the repair was very reasonable. Extremely frustrating experience. Initially, we were told it would take a day to replace the part, but then they admitted they had to order it, which was annoying but understandable. The real problem was their lack of communication. They estimated it would arrive by Wednesday, but when Friday came, we hadn't heard anything, so we had to call them. They had to send the part back for programming, adding another week to the wait. The part was supposed to arrive on Monday, and they were supposed to call us, but they didn't. So, we called them, and they said it would be there by Tuesday. Again, they didn't call as promised, and when we reached out, they postponed it to Wednesday. On Wednesday, we called around 3:00 PM, and they said the part had arrived and was being installed. I took of work early, we rushed over, but by 5:10 PM, they told us it wasn't finished and needed two more hours of reprogramming. They were closing at 5:30 PM, so we had to come back the next day. So after taking off early, driving an hour down there, because we were told it would be done, they turned us away. This entire ordeal meant taking Thursday morning off work and driving down once more because of their disorganization. I would strongly advise against anyone using their services; it was an absolutely horrible experience. read more

I used to go to APS every once in a while when I worked in Atascadero. Now that I'm retired and live in Los Osos I'm never there. Last week however, my Son's car died going up the grade. We were able to get it into Atascadero and took it to APS as I knew they were reliable. Honestly, it was beyond their capabilities as it needed a new engine. Sure, they could have handled it if we could wait a couple of weeks but we got to talking and both we and they realized that since we had a Hyundai and their engines blow up like popcorn in a microwave, it might be a good idea to just follow up on the lifetime power train warranty that we had on the car. That meant having the car towed to the Hyundai Dealer San Luis. Okay, my Son was headed out of town. Could we just leave it in their parking lot? Sure, can do. When you need that tow, we know a guy that can run you a good deal. Oh yeah? Let's talk. In the end, they let us park in their lot, arranged the tow, and co-operated with everything that we needed, well, not co-operated, really orchestrated. What's most striking is that they did it for nothing. I hadn't darkened their doorstep in five years. No problem. They still arranged everything necessary to get this done, gratis. On the house. For nothing. That's some pretty darn good customer service. If you consider that we weren't ever really customers it becomes exceptional. Now I don't know about you but I've dealt with some auto places that were shall we say, not so good. I guess you can safely say that about places other than auto places too. Some are good. Some not so hot. When a business goes above and beyond, it would be remiss to not note it. When you need service, patronize these guys. If they took care of us in this fashion with no pay off other than good will, think how they will treat actual paying customers. Check it out. Highly recommended. read more

Simply the best! Robert is knowledge and took the time to explain things to me. I brought my car in to have the oil changed, and a general check because I hit 100k miles. He made a list of services that he recommends, and put them in order of priority so that I would have the option to have the work done little by little to avoid one huge payment (greatly appreciated!) When they found a nail in my rear tire, they took the tire off and walked it over to have it repaired next door for me. Really just incredible customer service. As someone who knows very little about cars and car maintenance, it was really appreciated that he never made me feel silly or stupid for asking a question that might be obvious. I made the mistake of purchasing a car online after hip surgery. When it was delivered it reeked of burnt oil(not a good sign) the dealership took zero responsibility and that's when I turned to APS my trusted hometown mechanics. It ended up being a HUGE project over 20hrs of labor and one they were hesitant about taking on, but Robert did! He helped me thru a difficult situation and made sure my vehicle was safe to drive! They are so honest my bill was cheaper from the original quote because they didn't need to do some predicted repairs. I don't know what I would had done without them, other mechanics here didn't have the capability to complete this repair. Not only was a Robert very kind, he also had me come over and explained not only WHY the other shop might have had concerns but also explained why they were NOT concerns! I would not have my vehicle serviced again at APS Automotive. I initially brought my car into APS Automotive as a result of the high star rating. The initial diagnosis by Fred seemed decent since issue was found that timing belt was broken. Once you have the shop begin to do service is when it is quickly realized that it was a mistake to have the vehicle serviced here. 1). When my vehicle was brought in there for diagnosis there was mention that the timing belt had broke and was told that timing belt would need to be changed and will be provided with an update. 2). Robert had told me that there was an estimate of 1,100 to have the timing belt changed. Later on the day a call was received that water pump was overtightened by previous mechanic and that drilling of holes for putting new bolts was necessary and he wanted my permission to do the work since he would need to add $200 more which will make the price $1300 (a very expensive timing belt change). 3). I called in to speak with Dan and was told that the vehicle was ready for pickup. When I came into pickup I was then told that the vehicle was not able to be repaired and that vehicle was not ready for pickup since there was damage to the cylinder head. At the end the shop had installed a new timing belt but the vehicle was inoperable. (It was later on found out from other reputable shops that what the shop should have done before installing the timing belt is to do a leak or compression test. Shops that sell the standalone engine can confirm this also). In addition despite being told that the car able to start and drive short distance the car was returned to me in a dead battery state. (The tow driver will be able to confirm this as he was not able to start the vehicle to load the car onto the truck). Will never return read more

I brought a class b camper in to have a "pre-purchase inspection" done. Robert went above and beyond, both times we spoke on the phone he was very helpful, friendly and professional. Upon bringing the camper in he was busy but fit us in and looked at EVERYTHING. Not just the mechanics. Not only did he do a full inspection he sent us on our way with a can of starter fluid and some extra tape just in case. If we were local to Atascadero, he would 100% be our mechanic. I cannot recommend him enough. The service was only $55 I suggested he raise the price, he said he wants to keep it reasonable to encourage people to have inspections done prior to the purchase. I am extremely happy with folks here at APS. Customer Service, Resources and Experience are all things that I confidently rate 5/5 stars. Right off the bat I can tell that these folks work well together and that means a lot when you're trusting a team with your car. Situation: My 1998 Corvette had a high oil pressure reading that was too high for me to be comfortable with driving all the way back to the Bay Area. Customer Service: The gentleman behind the desk greeted me when I arrived, the technician stopped what he was doing to take a quick look at my corvette and gave me some surface observations for what the cause could be. Robert heard my situation. He acknowledged that I was mid travel from the central coast to the Bay Area. He knew that I was willing to leave the car and come from the bay area to pick it up later in the week but he was willing to get the part I needed and get it installed by the end of the day so that I wouldn't have to make two big round trips. Resources: APS has multiple lifts and got my car in the air to see if I had any leaks or damage. Robert took the time to investigate the probable cause of high oil pressure and provided me an explanation and the expectations for the repair. I was extremely pleased with their experience and resources. I was able to confidently hit the road before 3 PM and made it home safe and sound. I could not have had a better experience. When I walked through the door, I was greeted with a smile. I explained my situation and they made me an appointment for the next day. When I got there, I was greeted by the same smiling face. My car was taken back and issue was pin pointed quickly. I was told in advance of the charge to diagnose and was pleasantly surprised when they told me it was at not charge to me since it was a quick fix.
