Look elsewhere for a SMOG test!! So the first thing a shop does when you go to get your car smog'd is plug their computer into your ODB port to ensure that your car's electronics all check out. If anything isn't green here, you will not pass SMOG. Now any legitimate shop will tell you immediately that you need to drive the car around a bit more to complete the drive cycle first, and stop there, saving their time and your money. Unless, of course, they are crooks who don't mind wasting 10 minutes of everyone's time so they can bill you for $80. When my car didn't pass this initial computer check (so far they've put in a total of 30 seconds of "work"), instead of stopping they just ignored it, continued on with the rest of the test, and charged me $80 for a failed test (it passed on emissions, and only failed because of this system check). When I asked if I would get a courtesy recheck after I completed the drive cycle, the jerk behind the counter chuckled and told me "no, you'll have to pay again." I couldn't believe it. Checking to see if your car is "smog ready" takes 30 seconds and is a free service at any smog station. For them to completely ignore that, and proceed to run an expensive test that they knew would fail either way is just reprehensible. If this is how they took advantage of me, I can't imagine all the other ways they are ripping off their customers. read more

A+ in every respect. As a mechanic myself I am very impressed by this shop. You can trust that they are being honest and giving you the most accurate diagnosis possible. The owner Chris is very impressive in his knowledge and skills as well as being a kind person. I have had some horrible experiences with other local businesses and can't put in words how relieved I am to find a shop like this. He treats customers like family and will go out of his way to do the right thing. With every ridiculously expensive tool a larger shop has, Chris manages to provide service at hourly rates that are lower than other shops. I can't thank them enough. From start to finish, I'm a loyal new customer now. I'm local, and had a friend visiting from out of town. My car died in the parking lot next door to this shop in Morro Bay Even though they were five minutes from closing time, they came over and got the car into their lot. Stayed late to give me my estimate and carefully go over all that would need to be done. My friend was with me, and he was also impressed and confident that we landed in the right garage, even though it was not exactly part of our original plan. They had it fixed, did my smog cert and checked all fluids, the works. I want to thank the amazing man who took my info and agreed to take my car without an appointment or advance warning. They were BUSY but they didn't rush me or make me feel anything but like a valued new customer who needed her car fixed asap. The Service manager/owner, he was kind and professional throughout, and pleasant to deal with from the start. My 2005 Chrysler 300 SRT has under 50,000 miles on it, and it is dear to me as it was my late husband's car. It drives like it was meant to drive now, and I plan to take it to them for maintenance from now on. They came in exactly at the reasonable estimate they gave me, which was well below what I feared it could run, as I haven't had the car serviced in ....way too long. My car was READY by 10am the following day, so they had to have taken it on first thing, which I did NOT expect and even told them I'd understand if they couldn't get it back to me until Monday. I was not expecting a miracle, but I feel like that is what they accomplished for me. So if you need a smog, or oil change, or just about anything, these guys have you covered. THANK YOU SO MUCH! You guys saved my vacation, and did a fantastic job on my car. PS They give a warranty on all of their work that is good for 90 days from the date of repairs. This guy has the only game in town if you need a smog inspection for a pre-2000 car. I guess that's why he thinks he can charge $85 for the test and $55 for a retest if it fails, which ours did. He insisted that we must have disconnected the battery because the computer wasn't coughing up data. We didn't, but he still insisted. I won't be back. Do yourself a favor and go to to San Luis Auto and Smog, they're professional, reasonable, and aren't ripping off their neighbors. read more

I wasn't impressed. I came here to get a smog and was not satisfied. I felt the service was not friendly at all. The dog behind the counter got better treatment than me. Also, extra frustrating, I was told my car passed smog when it didn't.... I came back and the problem was taken care of, but the service didn't have me in a hurry to come back. The. Owner was nice but my clutch went out while on vacation. They put a "new clutch" in my automobile and it last six weeks. I had to drive back 4 hours to have it replaced. So having to take hours of driving and spend 6 hours waiting for the job to be done. Well was thoroughly frustrated at the experience. read more

Don't know if these guys know what they are doing. I brought my mini van in for a hesitation and starting problem. Got a call back saying I needed a new throttle position sensor. When I asked if that was the root cause, I was told that there was a recall notice and that I could come down and read it (???). I told them to go ahead then if that would fiix it. I later came to pick up the car and he stated it was all good so I paid the $250. Next morning it was doing the same hesitation! I happened to be near Autohaus in Los Osos and so had them check it out. He came back later and said it was the EGR valve and would guaruntee that would fix the problem so I said to go ahead. Its been 3 weeks since the repair and has been ruuning very smooth. No problems. So bottom line, go somewhere else where they really know what they are doing (like Auto Haus) read more

Well... In 9 days I will be literally living on the streets. I took my jeep in for a smog pre-test and it didn't pass. The owner, Larry, was incredibly rude from the get go. When I told him I was on disability and living in the jeep and that I needed an estimate on the repairs saying that it would cost at least $250 to qualify for the program that helps low income people get an extension and help paying for the repairs, he laughed at me and wrote me an estimate for $190 to come in and get yet another estimate on how much it would cost to fix it.
