I needed a Smog certificate, so I started looking for a garage in town. I checked Yelp and sure enough I found a couple of places...Now like most of my reviews I was aware of this garage and I'd been by it a hundred times, they were always busy. Certainly the sign of a good place whether it's a restaurant, car repair or a bar. I linked onto the site and followed along until I found the spot to make a reservation. Now the question was asked "leave car" or I'll wait". I chose leave the car and no reservations were available for a few days so...I backed up and chose I'll wait an available times popped up for tomorrow... Okay tomorrow 9:45 that would work. I arrived for my appointment a bit early, Jaedon was in the office and he logged the car in and said he'd call when it was ready, cool. So I left to do my work out and walk and a couple hours later I saw the missed call and a text to pick up my car, wow. Now he had told me the service fee and I thought that was a bit high and yes that price included the smog certificate. Once I was back in the office, (they have a great little waiting room just behind the shop) Jaedon reviewed the inspection they had done on the car and the washed my car too. A good shop will wash your car, that was cool. Everything was in good order, the car passed the smog test. I ordered the filters and wiper blades that needed replacement from the big A and saved a couple bucks. WOW!! My car has had trouble starting for the past several months intermittently; we replaced the alternator, battery, terminal... caps? whatever holds it in place. And never a solution that lasted very long. We kept wondering if it was the starter, and our suspicions were confirmed after my car had issues starting again this morning. We were turned away from a different shop, but a quick call confirmed that Wimmer's could help us out. We arrived around 12:45 and ended up picking our car up at about 5pm - they were able to switch out the starter and complete an oil change, they even gave me a complimentary exterior wash! Altogether it ended up around $900 including the diagnostic and the VERY thorough multipoint inspection. I'm so appreciative of the whole team, they really hustled to make sure that we could have our car back before they closed and it truly means so much. read more

I went in for an alignment for my truck. it needed a camber kit installed, which costed $30 in parts and $450 for labor. very expensive especially since it took them less than an hour of work. Also before they gave it back to me one of the techs broke my key because he didn't know how to take it out properly. they did not offer to fix or pay for a new key. and after all that they did a crap job on the camber kit install. read more

Five stars just isn't enough for Wimmer's!! They are efficient with exceptional customer service - at every interaction. Wimmer's truly cares about their customers - especially when it comes to safety issues. The first time I pulled up was with a concern why my car's oil life just didn't make sense. The tech offered right then to check the level, and he saved me from blowing up my engine by that simple extra step of customer service. My car had just been in another local shop for something but apparently checking oil levels aren't their standard. It's incredibly important for me (especially as a single woman) to have a direct relationship with my automotive shop that is trustworthy. I'm grateful Wimmer's is everything I need, right in my own neighborhood. But honestly - I would drive a long way for these guys if I had to! It's important to know what to expect in upcoming repairs since I've only been able to do the bare minimum in maintenance while getting back on my feet. I need to be advised what's priority - and they get it. I had an important long-distance drive to make, and Claire (service writer/advisor) wanted to make certain that my car was safe and road worthy. They made sure the work got done in time and my car handled better than it has in years, because of overdue and extremely critical repairs. It took a heavy weight of concern off my shoulders to know I was driving a safe and reliable car. Wimmer's prices are fair and competitive with other local shops! (yes, I checked.) They take time to answer and explain any questions I have. As long as I'm a resident on the central coast, Wimmer's will always be my shop. Casually telling Ritchie (owner) that I want to get a used Toyota van next for camping, he gave me some good advice on what to look for in terms of year/mileage. I know I'll have Wimmer's completely check it out for me to avoid any surprises. They are one more reason I love living in Morro Bay - a business that truly cares about the people in their community. Like no one in the office, no one in the garage. then some guy showed up and basically ignored us so we left and went to Todd's which a passerby let us know about thankfully. Top-notch!!! I had the BEST experience with Wimmer's Automotive. A rodent infestation chewed through my gas lines and wiring, and it was a huge mess. On the last day of my vacation to Los Osos my car had to be towed, and Wimmer's automotive was the only available mechanic. I got so lucky! Not only are they skilled, knowledge, efficient and thorough, they are also super Duper NICE! Big shout out to Mike. He went way above and beyond by driving over 10 miles out of his way to deliver all belongings inside my vehicle to my hotel room because my car had to stay for a weeks worth of repairs. I had a very bad experience at this shop after taking my girlfriends 2013 Honda Civic here. I found them to be extremely dishonest and would not trust them with my vehicles ever again. When I first arrived, the employee at the front was nice and I had high hopes we would be able to get to the bottom of a problem with her air conditioning. The employee told me about their free service where they check for other problems in the car incase something else might be wrong. As long as it was free, I told him, that was fine but I really just wanted the air conditioning done. He verbally quoted me a range of $250-$450 to run a diagnostic on the Civic's air conditioning. He explained that if they found the problem after an hour or so then it would be in that lower range but if it takes 4 hours or more then it'll for sure be in that higher range. That sounded fine to me so I signed an agreement for them to run the diagnostic which had the $450 price on it. He assured me they just list the higher price on the agreement because it will usually not go higher than that. We will circle back to this statement at the end. Once the diagnostic had been completed, they concluded that 2 thermo protector switches built onto the compressor were not working and they wanted to charge us over $4000 to replace it. Yes $4000. They also came back to me with a myriad of problems that had nothing to do with the A/C that they found during their "free" checks. Let's break those extra problems down individually: Her drivers side license plate light bulb was out and they wanted to charge her $42.50 in labor and $9.99 for the bulb, we bought a new bulb at autozone for $6.99 and I replaced it in 2 minutes. They showed us the engine air filter was dirty and needed to be replaced. They wanted to charge her $64.59 for labor and $59.40 for the new filter. We bought a brand new filter for $17.99 at autozone and I replaced it in 2 minutes. They told us the drive belt needed to be replaced... but it was a brand new belt, her father literally replaced it the week before. When I told the guy this he didn't know what to say. He was stumbling over his words trying to think of an excuse. They told us the windshield wipers needed to be replaced. The windshield wipers are only a few months old and I personally told my girlfriend to buy these nice silicone wiper blades on amazon so she wouldn't have to replace them as often because silicone wiper blades last you a really long time. Now back to the A/C. I found it funny that they wanted to replace the compressor because I do know it can be an expensive job (not $4,000 expensive but it can get up there in price). But I literally told the employee that checked me in that I tested the relay at the fuse box with a circuit tester at home and that I believed it was an internal electrical issue inside the vehicle and to start there. After they ran their diagnostic, I asked them if they were getting power at the compressor and they just told me they bypassed the relay and just focused on the compressor. But that doesn't make any sense because if you're not getting power to the compressor from inside the vehicle, why in the world would you start your checks at the compressor!? I believe they just wanted to replace the compressor because they knew they would make a lot of money on us if we agreed to let them do it. After realizing just how shady and dishonest this shop was, we decided to just pay them for their diagnostic and get our car back. It came out to $440. When I asked them how long they spent working on the vehicle he told me they spent 4 hours on their "free checks" and 2 hours on the A/C. This price didn't match up with what the first employee told me and although I argued with this other employee over the price, we finally just paid and took our car back. Oh and also, did I mention that they didn't even replace the freon? So now we are $440 in the hole and no freon in the system. Save yourself time and money and avoid this dishonest shop at all costs!!! read more

My car would stop running sporadically and I was charged over $1,000 for the repair. The mechanics knew I was from out of town passing through on my way back to San Diego. My car broke down again less than a week later. I almost died when my car stalled on the 5 freeway. I had to be towed, this time to my mechanic in San Diego JK Imports, who immediately found the problem and repaired it for less than half the price. My car has been running perfectly ever since. All I can say is, beware, and get a second opinion whenever possible. Especially when a misdiagnosis can cost your life. read more

This shop is the epitome of why people don't trust mechanics... They sure lived up to their reputation. After spending a few hours working on my car, I decided to bite the bullet and took my car in with AC issues. I agreed for them to do diagnostic test and was initially quoted 250-450 depending how long it took. Ok, fine, it came out being just over $450 stating they spent 4 hours on the car, when half that time was actually running what they market as "complimentary" service checks. Red flag number one. They came back to me with their solution being to completely replace my compressor as this is a big job and they can run up a huge bill for something like this. Prior to coming in, my father, who does not live in the area but is quite the mechanic himself, told me word for word, don't let them try to replace your compressor as that's going to be their solution I almost guarantee it. Well, it was. During the initial diagnostic, they removed my freon and refused to replace it unless I paid them an ADDITIONAL $130. I'll admit I'm not the most mechanically inclined so my dad called them and asked for further explanation as to what the problem was and how they figured out it was a compressor issue. Their answers were vague, they tripped over their words, and we decided to consult another mechanic. He informed us that they did not even need to remove the freon just for the diagnostic, and advised me to get my car out of their shop. Red flag number two. The additional checks they performed would've rang up a bill that can't be described as anything other than highway robbery. These were all minor issues (license plate bulb was out, an air filter needed to be replaced, etc) that my boyfriend was able to complete in less than 10 minutes, start to finish, and the entire project costed me not even 15% of what they would've charged me for parts alone. Plus, they advised me to replace my serpentine belt when I had literally done so 6 days prior. I told them this and they had no words. Red flag number three. Finally I get my car back, and they had left it unlocked sitting on the side of the street, battery dead, and still no refrigerant in the system. I'd avoid this shop at all costs. read more

This could have easily become a one-star review. When my car experienced a major problem with the engine and I needed to tow it to an auto repair shop right away, I brought it to Jim's Automotive because years ago, they had worked on a previous car that I had owned. When I got there on a Monday, I discovered that they were super busy and incredibly backed up. I counted 14 cars that they were working on at once. I was told that since I had no appointment, it would be 1-3 days before they would even be able to look at it and see what was wrong! I was stunned, as this meant I would be without a car for who-knows-how-long. However, the Jim's staff were sterling professionals. They kept me up to date and in the loop with the progress that they were making with my car, and went out of their way to get it fixed as quickly as they could with their backed-up schedule. Their exceptional service turned what could have been a disastrous experience into a positive one. In the end, I got my car back on Friday and it's running wonderfully. I have nothing but praise for how the staff at Jim's treated me and showed that they genuinely cared. They had no control over how busy they were, but they made sure to do the right thing with everything that they could control! read more

Although not the least expensive estimate I received, I chose Jim's for a major brake and strut replacement job done on my 10 year old Highlander and could not be happier with the service and quality of work at Jim's. Simon and Steven were professional, courteous and great at communicating their repair process. I use the dealer for maintenance on my car ( still under warranty) but plan to use Jim's for all my non-warranty vehicle repairs. We took my mothers car based on a recommendation from another shop that could not provide the services needed for her make of vehicle. Her vehicle sat at this location for two weeks after they claimed she needed extensive work and the extended warranty company needed to be contacted. They submitted an extensive pricey request to the warranty company. The warranty company had to send out an inspector, due to the high amount of cost for service. The inspector made several attempts to contact the business in order to verify the services that were requested. The inspector was DENIED access into the shop. That alone seems a bit fishy and very suspicious. The services that the company stated the vehicle needed was the timing belt, fuel injectors, light inspection, etc. At a grand total of $4000+. Due to the fact the inspector was denied access, we had to pick the car up and take it to the car dealer. When we took the vehicle to the dealer, the dealer stated the only thing wrong was fuel injector was bad and had to be replaced for a total of $1100. The warranty company was contacted and the inspector didn't even respond to the dealer, bc they are a reputable company and the inspector can't inspect the inside of fuel injectors from the outside. I would not recommend this business and be weary of what they are charging and what needs repairing. They were claiming services that did not need to be repaired! They also billed an excessive amount just to evaluate and simply hook the car up to a computer for a diagnostic. They also claimed to have done a light inspection for $90, when she NEVER claimed there was anything wrong with her headlights or taillights! The diagnostic was a grand total of $250 with no physical services provided just diagnostic for services not needed. read more

Not only was my car done quickly, but they have a great car diagnostic program that will text you direct results from your cars inspection & service. I was blown away, I used to take my car to the dealership for servicing, but I will no longer be doing that. I have never experienced such amazing service before, until now. Last week I watched a news report on scam auto shops. That is NOT these guys!! This shop couldn't be more transparent about the work you need done. I also had to schedule my power steering repair for after a long trip I was taking--so Ritch gave me an emergency bottle of fluid on the house (should I need it), and walked me through how to get through my trip safely. Then I finally went in for the work--which was an extensive overhaul, and going to be quite pricey--but they realized mid-job that they could save me $500!! Boom!
