I brought my truck in to have an oil change, a tune up and the brakes worked on. They informed me the transmission needed to be fixed before they could work on it and gave me a referral. After getting the transmission fixed, I called to make an appointment. The person who answered stated the shop was really busy and to call in 3 weeks. After 3 weeks, I called and made an appointment. A few days later, a person from the shop called and said they were not going to work on my vehicle because the mechanics were older guys and they didn't want to work on an older model truck. I get the reason why they didn't want to work on the truck but felt they should have explained this to me in the first place instead of giving me the run around. My suggestion is if you have an older vehicle, go elsewhere. read more

Huge shout out to Smitty's! We had an older vehicle that could no longer pass smog and they were kind enough to recommend the state BAR program that provides incentives to retire older vehicles. Thank you! read more

My starter was failing on my pickup truck. I decided to give SMITTY'S a try. The truck literally died in their driveway and would not start. I felt terrible. They said not to worry, they'd find a place to put it and scheduled me for the next week. About 4 hours later I was trying to figure out how I would get to work when they called and said it was done! They'd had a canceled appointment and took my vehicle right in. The courteousness and concern they showed me as a customer was amazing. They even checked a few other things and made sure the truck was right before it went out the door. HUGE respect and appreciation. . . HIGHLY pleased, will use them again, and recommend this business! THANK YOU SMITTY'S! read more

This is solely based on the call I made to inquire about getting my van diagnosed. One of the best interactions I've had with any repair shop. Mark was the perfect example of customer service. Hope I'm still in town long enough to bring my van in. Thank you. read more

Moved to Los Osos. I have several auto repair shops in walking distance. I had 2 shops in 32 years in San Diego. Now who do I trust. Walking the dog, thinking about getting an oil change, start talking to a fella on the street. Top bloke. Shadow you? My auto shop is right there. Got my business, repeats, on both vehicles. read more

I called for help while on a weekend trip. I was at least 6 hours away from home and they squeezed me into their schedule on the same day! I'm thankful for such wonderful service on a day that for me wasn't so easy. read more

I would so highly recommend Alan and Jeff to do repairs on my vehicles without any hesitation. I was in town for vacation and asked 4 or 5 locals if they could refer a mechanic and all of them told me Smitty's! Went down on a Monday morning as soon as they opened and spoke with Alan about my car issue and he listened about my concern. He didn't hesitate to ask Jeff ( who's worked for Alan for 32 years! ) to check out my car. While Jeff was working on my car, Alan was on the phone with Ford to see if the part was available. Alan came back with honest answers and told me up front how much it would cost... a very fair and honest price! I would like to say how lucky the city of Los Osos is to have an honest mechanic in their town! I want to thank the both of them very much!!!! Boston Dave read more

Great people, great service, great pricing, highly efficient, a pleasure in all respects. Today they put a tire on my truck and wouldn't charge me. Over the years they've been exceptional and I can't recommend them highly enough. read more

Got a smog there a few months back. Made an appointment ahead. Very nice staff. Everyone was friendly. Very quick.

My highest recommendation goes to Smitty's Auto in Los Osos. I drove by this morning on an outside chance they could do an oil change, filters, tire rotation, head light replacement, etc. It was my Dad's car (he recently passed), and he hadn't kept up with maintenance. Mark (super friendly and accommodating) told me they were pretty booked, but if I could leave it, they would try to get to it. This afternoon Mark got back to me and let me know the vehicle was done. I couldn't believe it! The prices were very reasonable, and this shop has my business from now on in Los Osos. Thanks again Mark! If I could give 10 stars, I would! read more

The dealership couldn't figure out what was wrong with my Honda CRV, which eventually left me stranded with a dead car and a toddler in the backseat. Smitty's was able to get me in quickly, diagnose the problem and even picked me up at my home to get me back to my car. All it needed was a new starter which Smitty's knew immediately. I was treated fairly, charged what I felt was an appropriate amount for the work completed and not oversold on any other services like the dealership does. As a single mom, I value their honesty, integrity and general Los Osos friendly service. Thanks Smitty's! read more

Being an old fogey, with my children living far away, they have asked me to stay safe as it relates to both COVID and my car. Imagine my chagrin when I arrived at Smitty's to get an oil change and despite the current County order, the employees were not wearing masks. My assumption is if they don't care about my COVID safety, they wouldn't care about my car safety either. His volatile reaction to my mentioning my concern was unpleasantly over the top. In conclusion, this is the perfect place for QAnon followers and Trumpers to get an oil change. read more

I brought my vanagon in to get smogged. They said if I dropped it off all day, they could get to it. So I dropped it off. I then heard back the next day, that it wouldn't start. I said, well that's weird I drove it there. They said it wouldn't start, so they were going to bump start it and leave it on the street. They didn't smog it. They didn't suggest a repair. Nothing. Just hay, your car didn't start. We are leaving it on the street, so have a nice life. They are mechanics? Now, here is the real kicker. I went to pick up the van on the street. It started on the first try? I thought they were mechanics? They also didn't fold my seats back, and damaged the interior of my car. Unreal?!? read more

I had really high hopes for this place. Excellent yelp reviews and right next to where I'm staying, this seemed like a great place to get some car work. I scheduled an appointment 3d out and brought the car at the agreed time. They told me they'd just have to look at it for 2-3h and we could go from there. After hearing nothing, I came back 2.5h later to be told that they hadn't even touched the car and that I could come back next week. At any point in this process, they could have 1) told me they couldn't do it today, or 2) done something to try to make it right, but they just said come back next week. Instead, they managed to waste most of my day and offer me nothing in return. Very disappointing. read more

I have waited way too long to write this raving review of the very best place to go for your car needs. Mark and Alan have always treated me like family. This auto shop is the most honest shop you can find. They go above and beyond for their customers and I feel so blessed to have such a reliable and wonderful company here in my hometown to help me with my car repairs and oil changes. I cannot recommend them enough. Thank you Alan, Mark, and all of the hardworking Smitty's staff for all that you have done for my vehicles and I throughout the years! read more

I love this place! And I am not one to have strong feelings for auto shops. This is where my husband and I come for all our car related needs. Everyone here is extremely kind and thoughtful. The staff responds quickly and is easy to get a hold of. They are accommodating and have great prices, ie never once felt like I was being "ripped off" as some auto shops have that reputation. Fantastic place, makes me so thankful to live in our little Los Osos community! read more

Alan & The Team over at Smitty's really helped me resurrect my 2001 BMW from the grave. I was crying with gratitude, when Alan said: "Ya Gotta Have a Car Vic!" they miraculously fixed "Ole Blue" and even delivered her to my home. Waaaay Above & Beyond 5 Measley Stars!!! Mark and his crew are great! Mark answered all my questions and gave great advice. You can tell they really care about their customers.

My daughter came to visit from up north and her car broke down while she was here. It was on a Saturday, but Allan was in the office and answered the phone. i explained what the car was doing when it stopped running and asked if he could help us. I explained that I would be paying for the repairs and he told me not to worry until they knew what was wrong. I called Tuesday to see if he knew what was wrong and Allan told me it was ready. There were numerous things wrong with the car and I was ready for a obscene charge but when I asked him how much and to be "kind" to me, I was shocked at the cost. I really think the cost was more than fair, in fact I had expected hundreds of dollars more. I have been driving a lot of years and have used lots of dealerships and garages for car repairs. Dealing with Smitty's in Los Osos, was "THE BEST" experience I have ever had. Fast, friendly, and fair. Imagine, an honest mechanic who didn't try to take advantage of a retired women and isn't out to gouge the public. I can't say enough good things about Smitty's. He has a new customer from now on, with my own cars. Thank you Smitty's read more

Always super friendly, quick and honest people. I don't trust anyone else with my car. (:

I called 2-3 times to set up an appointment to drop off my car and was told to call back later in the week/next week/etc. After we settled on a drop off time I got a ride set up and my schedule adjusted to drop it off. I called to confirm someone would be there at the time of the appointment, it was 4-something pm. Nobody answered my call, I left my name and number(which I already had done 1-2 times before). Nobody called me back. At this point I've put in more time and energy than is reasonable to 'give a local place a chance'. If I get some type of follow up or any sign of effort I may remove my negative review. Until then, 1 star. read more

This has been the VERY best mechanic experience I've had since needing one (about twenty years). I'm very loyal to mechanics because I feel like they have an understanding of your car, just like a doctor, would over time and I tend to keep vehicles until they're well and truly dead. Having move to Los Osos and being a little nonplussed with my current mechanic in SLO and his lack of responsiveness and timeliness, I decided to give a more convenient shop a chance - one I can walk my dogs to - and the Yelp reviews looked phenomenal. And, once again, just like almost everything else I've experience in Los Osos, this place is the best. The atmosphere is awesome - the guys are friendly, genuine, and really seem to care about not only your happiness but what's going on with the car. They gave me a friendly guilt trip about my car needing alignment (which I knew) but did it in such a way that I am making an appointment immediately ("They're such nice tires, it'd be a shame to ruin them!"). The outside has a little patio if you're waiting for something fast, the inside is decorated with kid photos and Clint Eastwood (I just felt like a badass walking in), and had a great, personable experience with everyone. They're on it, they got 'er done, and . . . I got out of there with no huge charges or epic issues. I'll be back, again and again and again. read more

Alan at Smitty's Auto, in Los Osos, has serviced and repaired my classic Thunderbird for over 25 years. This shop is the only place that I have trusted to work on it. Alan treats the car like it is his own. He has always been knowledgeable, honest, fair, and reasonable. Recently I needed a repair that was unique to a 1965 Thunderbird. Alan and Jeff came to my rescue, took on the challenge, and once again did an excellent job. You won't be disappointed with Smitty's Auto. read more

Here it is 5 years later and we're still prepared to keep on raving about the folks at Smitty's. About 6 months ago we took our 23 year old Toyota to Smitty's to have a hesitation looked at. My wife picked up the car and was told it was fixed, but we should start thinking about retiring the old gal. There are plenty of mechanics out there that would have stayed quiet about needing a new car and enjoyed the money rolling in from the constant repairs. Not these guys. Not only did they give us the heads up, they offered a very solid suggestion on what to do with her once we were ready to part. I love these guys! read more

Just had a difficult smog test done on a vehicle that had not been driven for a year. They told me how to reset the sensors and did several checks to make sure it would pass smog. They got me in promptly on the AGREED upon time. After the sensors were reset it did. Invaluable info and help. They also replaced my water pump and serpentine belt (labor on the belt was gratis) several years prior, so I knew I could trust them for great service and a fair price. Highly recommended for both. read more

I had an 8am appointment to get my car smogged and everyone was ready to work but waiting on the boss to show up (Smitty). It was already 15 minutes past my appointment and no Smitty to perform the smog. I was told to leave my car and that he would be on his way shortly and it would be ready in approx. 40mins. After about 40 mins I returned to pay my bill only to discover (after waiting an additional 10plus minutes for Smitty to chat with someone...rude) that he could not perform the smog needed for my car. I found this really upsetting since he was late, his staff told me they were working on my car, and all he needed to do was call me and say that they didn't have the correct machines. This was a total waste of my time and enough for me to stop taking my business there along with those I recommended. Too bad I can't bill him for the hour wasted based on his negligence to pick up a phone. read more

If you're looking for a mechanic that demonstrates honesty, integrity and real automotive know-how, look no further than Smitty's. The owner, Alan, will treat you right, fix you up and charge you an honest price for honest work. It simply doesn't get any better than that. The last honest mechanic! Smitty's is the best! I can't tell you how many times I have taken my cars here and been so impressed with the service and the price. One time they misdiagnosed the problem, even though what they fixed needed to be fixed, and they didn't charge me for it. I got about $300 worth of work for $40! I felt like I was ripping them off. How often can you say that about your mechanic. every time I get my car back and they tell me the price I am shocked about how cheap it is. My old mechanic would have charged me double on just about everything, and they always do a great job and are extremely honest. They never try to up sell and keep it real. If I ever have to move, even if it is 5 hours away, I would still want to take my car here. That's how good they are! read more

So we broke down 400 miles from home. We had our car towed to Smittys and they were super friendly, professional and reassuring. Unfortunately I had a bad experience with Smittys. Called before hand to go in to get a smog the man said come in when ever. Waited 30min and owner arrived and I told him I needed the smog and to check the timing. (Easy 5min process I just couldn't get a hold of a timing light.) After stating that he said he can't get to it today because of the timing and to come in on Friday at 4 o'clock. So I did and the owner had left for out of town who was the only one who could smog. Very upset with what happened can't blame the man for wanting vacation but between two jobs and school time is very limited. Unfortunately I will not be returning. read more
