Homophobic and Poor Diagnostician. After 15-20 minutes of actual work to diagnose my A/C issue, Dan (owner), I was charged for a full hour and told the car needed a replacement part and approximately 3 additional hours of work. Estimating the cost at $350-$400 on top of the $152 for the diagnosis and fluids. I was being rung up for this work, and the owner made a homophobic slur. This gay customer was shocked that it had happened, and was too scared to say something in the moment; being in the heteronormative environment of his garage. The next day, I left a message to cancel the follow up appointment; and then, brought the car to another garage for a free A/C evaluation. It was determined the A/C was fine and needed a minor duct shift actually fixed by the other auto center. Shame on you, on both accounts! read more

I called around to a few of the local auto repair shops to inquire about installing a license plate frame on the front of my car. (A kindly officer stopped me and told me to get that remedied because in CA, the requirement is for license plates to be mounted on both the front and back of a vehicle - so I got a warning) When I called Central Coast Autohaus, I was told to bring my car in, ask for JC, and he'll mount a license plate frame and my lic. plate for FREE! He said it'd take just a few minutes. Thank you very much for the little things that make a lot of difference!!! Within two weeks I scheduled the 100K check up for my 1992 Toyota Camry, and Dan did a meticulous job on my car. He took the time to really check her out from end to end, and found some areas underneath bumpers that were not bolted down properly from a previous detail paint job I'd had done a few years back. My bi-yearly ordeal with the CA smog certificate reminded me of how great these people are. My current sled is remarkably free of maintenance woes, but the one before required several visits over the years and I never drove away unsatisfied. The smog thing went easy peasy, 20 minutes, they remembered me from two years before, and he alerted me to the sad state of my tires. I HIGHLY recommend these folks, they're real members of the community and truly care about their customers. I needed to find a mechanic for my foreign vehicle and thought this was the place based on some reviews. I made 5 visits and spent $1400 mainly to pass Smog Inspection. The check engine light kept turning on. After the 5th visit I drove 3 miles and it popped on again. To make it worse I could only get repairs done on 2 of the 5 visits. Either parts weren't ordered or it was an inspection visit only? Finally, spark plugs were replaced on first repair, but after second repair codes were still saying miss fire? So my mechanic actually said, "we should replace the spark plugs." I said, "you just did." He said, "Oh I work on so many vehicles I can't remember every one." He just replaced all of the spark plugs 10 days prior. Bottom line is if you have to go here only work with the owner. They are very nice and so am I, but $1400 later and my check engine light is on and it says "Time for Service on my dash." I finally went to the dealership which I should have done in the firs place. Prices aren't better at Autohaus and knowledge is king. read more

I have to respond with an unequivocal, stay clear of this shop if you need extensive service to a vw vanagon. Considering it's proximity to go westy I believed service here was a good idea. More than 4 months past before I was told to come pick up van, it was ready. The following week I returned the van to get it properly completed. It never happened and cost me an additional 700.00 and dissatisfaction but hoping for the best. I since have paid another shop to complete the work central coast autohaus was incapable of doing. To add to this when I finally had a chance to wash the van that sat for over 4 months I noticed splatter from asphalt. Asphalt that was applied to central coast autohaus parking lot when my van was there. Did they wash It. No. Was I billed for gas. Yes I left the van with half a tank. The van was being used for at least two weeks by the mechanic, for testing. Customers judge for yourself. I won't go near that shop. read more

We were visiting the Los Osos /Morro Bay area for a short vacation and had an unexpected car issue by the time we reached the region from So Cal. A horrible situation to be without a vehicle when vacationing and really wanting to enjoy the area, and very challenging to get back home. We took our car to CC Autohaus and even though the mechanic, (Dan Hunt) stated they were all booked up for the week, he took pity on us and diagnosed the problem, and ordered the part which arrived the next day and was quickly installed. Had to take my ill husband's '96 Miata in for a new tire at the last minute AND they picked me up/dropped me off at my home since I had no one available to drive me back and forth between shop and home. AND Autohaus fixed (again at the last minute) the ongoing air conditioning problem in the Miata. Price for everything was more than reasonable... and much lower than the competitor my husband usually took his car to in Morro Bay. JC and Mary were wonderfully kind to this harried lady in distress on very, very short notice. Needless to say my son needs to drive the Miata to San Diego asap to facilitate our move there in 3 wks....
