There are some very reputable auto repair shops in Paso. Prior to dropping off our 1952 Studebaker, I didn't know about Shift'n Gears. I had contacted another repair show, who did work restoration work on classic cars, but we never were able to reconnect with him, which led us to Kevin at Shift'n Gears. While the Stude was the first car we took in, I recently dropped off my 2005 Dodge RAM 1500 that had a power steering, transmission and wiper pump problem. $300 later, I received a report online from Kevin as to what needed to be done on the truck to make it drivable. As expected, there were other problems noted that should be addressed, providing a price for the work to be accomplished and the option to accept or decline the work. I put down my 20% deposit and the work on the truck was started. It took about three days, mainly waiting for parts to arrive but the work was done professional and the truck ran excellent when we got it back. The work on the Studebaker was much more extensive to get it drivable and safe to move on the road. That said, there is about another $7000 to start making a dent in the front end rebuild to truly make this vehicle safe for the road. We have been very pleased with the professionalism, service and communication we have had with Shift'n Gears and will be doing more business with them in the future. Thanks for the work! read more

I had a couple of jobs done at Shiftin Gears in the past couple of months on my 2005 Dodge 2500 with about 325000 miles. First the front suspension was really worn (LOTS of play in ball joints and some noise from the A arms starting). They rebuilt the whole front s suspension including shocks, ball joints and a-arms. It drives like a new truck! The second job just this week (late January 2026) was with the transmission. It was hunting gears and wouldn't shift into OD as it should, as well as other "odd behavior". These guys took the extra time to warm up the truck and drive it until they were able to seen the issues. They replaced the internal electronics and added a shift kit. The truck is running and driving and shifting great!!! We use SG routinely for work on our truck!! THANKS! Charlie (PS they washed it too! Very nice!) My Honda CRV experienced major performance issues about 26 miles out of Paso Robles with all the dashboard lights coming on. I had the car towed to Shift'n Gears after speaking with Kevin on the phone. The car was diagnosed the next business day and I was informed that the engine was 'misfiring', found mixture of coolant and oil in one of the cylinders. Kevin recommended replacing the engine due to fluids leaking into combustion chamber (failed head gasket, cracked head or cracked block). Told Kevin that I was going to have my car towed to my local mechanic and he understood. I had the car there for almost a week and Kevin didn't charge me a 'storage' fee, which I greatly appreciate. My mechanic confirmed Kevin's diagnosis, so they were 'spot on'. I now know where to take my car the next time i need servicing when i'm up in the Paso area. read more

I asked them for a second opinion on a small oil leak on my grandsons Subaru. They told me it could be done for $99. A few hours after dropping off the vehicle, I received a phone call from the business. They stated that they needed to clean the undercarriage of the vehicle and drive it in order to find the leak. I was fine with that until they said they needed an additional $150 to diagnose the leak. In my opinion, they beat people in with the $99 diagnostic and inspection and then start adding additional hours for Diagnostic. read more

My wife & I were driving into town & something on the road struck our lower engine splash shield. It nearly ripped off completely. The car was barely driveable. Definitely not at highway speeds. It was almost 3pm on a Friday! I called these guys & they told me to drive over so they could take a look. They were able to remove damaged pieces & secure the shield in place. I took my trans back because it seemed to still have a leak. I called Leanne and she said: "Bring it in right now!" It turns out there was a pin hole worn into the transfer case. Tiny! See picture. Shift'n Gears helped me out tremendously when I was short on time for needing something fixed immediately! I had to leave that night to travel a few hours away and the first place I originally was going to try couldn't service me for two weeks. I tried Shift'n Gears and they took a look at my car right away when I got there. Then they told me the issue of my car and were able to fix it right after. Staff is very nice and friendly and their dogs are so adorable! Their price estimate was very fair and lower than I expected and I was very grateful they were able to fix it on such short notice, as it was about 2pm when I showed up w/o an appointment. Shift'n Gears has the best customer service hands down! While I was driving down south to a very important event for my family, my transmission decided to implode itself. Shift'n was the closest shop to me and I let them know my situation and that I had to still head down south after I dropped the car off. Although i declined because i have roadside service, they offered to help me with getting a tow truck and with directions to their shop. I set up an uber to pick us up shortly after we were going to arrive at the shop. Upon arriving they took my information quickly, told my family to have fun on the rest of our trip and let me know they would contact me with some estimates for replacement transmissions. They called back fairly quickly with some quotes and unfortunately they were a little out of my range so I decided it was probably best to tow it back and figure out what to do with it another day. Their quotes were fair in relation to many of the shops I called and although I did not end up using their services they were nothing but nice and extremely helpful to me and my family. I would 100% recommend Shift'n Transmissions to anyone. Their level of customer service is something you dont see too often. If I ever need work done in the future I would drive the hour to this shop! read more

These guys are great. I've used them now for 4-5 repairs on my family's cars. Jimmy rebuilt the rear end if my Jeep Wrangler and chased down an electrical issue on my wife's car, among other repairs.
