Long story short- it suddenly would not go into gear and nothing I tried worked. Spoke with Sean and Brian and got the transmission diagnosed, fixed and reinstalled in just a couple weeks. This time, I had an "A4 Service" message on my panel, so I looked for a local place other than the dealer, which is very inconvenient in SLO. Well, Yelp came to my rescue. Auto Limits shows with 5 stars, and it's located so close to me. I called them, made an appointment, and they gave me a reasonable quote. That morning, I dropped it off, and John said it would be ready by 2pm. Well, before 2pm, i received a call that it could be picked up. Not only that, it was nearly a $100 lower than the estimate "...because it was checked, and wasn't needed"...wow. I love it. What makes up for a little messy / fugly office, they are nice, honest, and give good service. Again, love it.

I can't believe that I've lived in Paso/Atascadero since 2012 and it took our family this long to find them. Both Julie and Corey (not sure on spelling) are sincere, reasonably priced and just easy going people. A local tire shop was changing my oil recently and said that I needed to replace my valve cover gasket because it was leaking AND they also said we needed to replace the drive belt. I thanked them for their notification and asked them to please just change the oil. I then contacted Julie at SMELTZER and she was able to schedule me in to see her hubby for a second opinion. My husband and I took our car to have Corey look at it. He looked at the engine and found nothing wrong with it. I was shocked by two things, shocked by his honesty when most other mechanics would tell you what best benefits their pocket books- but I was more shocked that a local tire shop in Paso Robles that we have trusted for many many years would try to take advantage of their customers like that. They have lost a customer and SMELTZER has earned a customer for life. Thank you for being a good human and not seeing people as dollar signs Mr & Mrs Smeltzer. Unfortunately, my "Check Engine" light went on 4 days before my trip and I was hesitant to take my 4Runner or rent a car for 4 days so I took my car to A-Town Automotive because of a recommendation by a fellow Toyota owner I met in the Trader Joe's parking lot. I live on a limited income and feared that it was going to be a major repair. When I got there, the owner used a computer device that could diagnose the problem and discovered that it was not a major problem so I drove it down to LA and back without any problems. I had an appointment the morning after I returned and he had it fixed 90 minutes after my appointment. To my surprise, he charged me his regular hourly labor fee and the cost of the part that was $2.50. He even repaired the clock on my dashboard that hasn't worked since I bought it. Not only is he a knowledgeable mechanic but is honest and that is a rare quality with auto mechanics in Atascadero.
