It's fish fry season so we made our annual trek to Mcpartlin's for fish fry. It did not disappoint. We started with the pretzels, which were interesting, the horseradish was a little strong. I had the breaded fish fry and it was really good. Coleslaw and fries were good. My wife had the broiled haddock and it was really good. I've passed by this establishment dozens of times and we finally walked in to McPartlans and it was like taking a step back time. From the quaint decor and the vintage tables and chairs, it reminded me of dining with my grandparents. We were greeted by a very polite and friendly woman who had our drink and food orders going in near record time. The misses got the turkey sandwich which was a healthy helping of meat and veggies and she got a "cup " of fries which we all were surprised at how small it was. But she also got a cup of the broccoli cheddar soup and we love a thick hearty soup so this was a nice addition to the meal. The little yelper opted for her usual fingers and fries, her take was they were "ok", but the pickles got a thumbs up. I went for the famous fish fry. Either I've lost touch on what to expect for a $16 fish fry or this thing was just abnormally small. But it was an ok fish, wouldn't say famous but the slaw fries and rye bread were all a good addition. Charming low key old school for sure. Full of locals and service was friendly and not rushed. Had French onion soup, clam chowder and their classic fish fry. Definitely enjoyed the slow pace and quietness of it. Thought it would be busier but maybe Black Friday folks have other things on their minds. I would say 3.5stars this rounding up to 4. I've lived in WNY nearly my entire life, and my recent visit to McPartlan's Corner was my first-ever visit. (I even remember when there was a McPartlan's Other Corner!) I definitely showed my naivete by entering in the "bar door" instead of the dining room door... That's ok! The first of my group to arrive, I secured a 4-top and placed my order. We all enjoyed a Tom & Jerry, a seasonal drink to which I was recently introduced. A blend of Brandy or Bourbon topped with a merengue-like mixture and spices like cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg. The drink was delicious. The food was pretty good, too. When I ordered spinach bread, I definitely expected something different than what I received. The Reuben was tasty, both for dinner and reheated in the oven for lunch the next day. Even the chips crisped up in the oven. The decor was festive & fun. The staff all seemed to have sour faces. A place where I used to think had the best fish fry might be slipping out of that top spot. We got fish fry's on Friday and I can't say I was super impressed. The fish itself is good. It's not a huge piece compared to some other places but it didn't fall apart or mush when you cut into it which is definitely a plus. The salads are fine. The potato salad didn't have much flavor and the macaroni salad also seemed to be a little bland. Would love to have some more flavor added to those to bring the meal back up. The coleslaw I had was a little dry, and not as watery or creamy as it should be. It was almost like just eating normal cabbage. The fries here were really the only side that complimented the dish. I ate the meal but can't say I finished the sides. They just weren't up to par this time. Hopefully it was just a one time thing and McPartlan's can win me back next time. read more

I cannot believe I haven't shared a review for McPartlan's Corner! This spot is the restaurant my husband's family goes to together whenever people are visiting. I've had the pleasure of visiting multiple times over the years and while it is older and more of a hole in the wall spot, the food is amazing and we always have a great time here. I've only been coming here for the last 14 years, but my husband and his family have been coming for a much, much longer time. A lot of the staff members have been here forever and it really makes it a gem of a family restaurant. The wings are my absolute favorite thing to order, with blue cheese of course. The other items I've tried are the fish fry and the beef on weck. I really haven't tried much else, because the wings are so tasty I don't really need to try more of the menu. I've been here a couple times so far and although the food is decent (I ordered roast beef and mashed potatoes ) and they make a pretty good Tom and Jerry - the service could use a little work . Although nobody was really rude - any special requests were made to seem like a hassle (separate checks , substitutions, extra water etc.) . It was a Tuesday evening , although they were steady - not every table was occupied , nobody was waiting for seating and they seemed staffed accordingly, so I don't understand why every request made was met with some sort of resistance. Prices are good (pay in cash and they are even better ) . Decor for the holidays is festive . Now if only this corner bar/restaurant had more of a friendly and comfy feel - like Cheers ! read more

My friend and I stopped out at McPartlan's to catch up. This place is a comforting tavern. It isn't for everyone, but I like it. I was probably the youngest one there, but that's what is great about it. We both ordered the chicken taco salad. It is served with a side of jalapenos, olives, sour cream and salsa, and it is in a taco shell bowl. It was very good. I couldn't believe that they had that on the menu, and must have passed over it numerous times. I know now not to and will be ordering it in the future. My friend ordered a harrington, which is similar to a Manhattan and enjoyed two of those. I had two vodka sodas. Our bill came to $50. Not bad for 4 drinks and two salads. read more

This restaurant is located near where we stay. It's a great place to get a fish fry, liver and onions, burgers, and other pub food. There was a time when they had a lot of local Irish sports flags hanging up, which I truly appreciated and reminded us of our trip around Ireland. The last time we visited though, they were taken down and replaced with generic Bills flags one finds in all bars. Turned out to be a huge mistake. I had the large seafood platter that I had years ago and actually had a photo of in my favorites. It was so good. The best thing about it was shrimp. But the fish was obviously frozen and old. Almost inedible, Also came with "scallops". I don't know if they were scallops, when I pulled all the breading off, they were about the size of tge nail on your pinky. I had the German potato salad, and a flat, warm coleslaw. I had one little lemon wedge. One of my children ate a grilled cheese sandwich, and she was happy. The other had a turkey club sandwich that was pretty good. However, they charge $2.75 up charge for french fries. These french fries were reconstituted, previously cooked, frozen ones. They were horrible. If they're going to up charge for it , why don't they make their own french fries ! Every time you watch, Drive Ins, Diners and Dives, all these restaurants make everything from scratch. We did order garlic bread for the table as an appetizer that my kids really liked. I guess it's hard to sustain quality for 30 or 40 years. It's a shame, because I recommended it to someone who just moved here from Chicago. I must call them and tell them don't go! It has gone downhill. I've noticed since Covid, almost every restaurant around Buffalo that I've been to, doesn't come close to where it was pre-Covid. And I'm talking fine dining, as well as a dive like McPartlan's. I've been going here religiously for over 50 years. Best fish fry in town. That's until recently. Last three times the food was terrible. The servers are unhappy. Ownership is evidently the issue. It was our monthly group lunch get together. While the menu on line is quite dated, making choices appear very inexpensive, the real menu is just as diverse, but it has higher prices than the on line one. There were several specials on the blackboard on the wall, but there were many choices on the menu. I picked the Julianne salad. Two choices, small or large. There is a $3.00 difference. While I did not consider my salad very large, it was large enough to be quite filling. My salad had the standard hard boiled egg(quartered), ham, Swiss cheese and turkey strips over iceberg lettuce. There was one pepperoncini and one olive sitting on top. No tomatoes or sliced cucumbers. I was happy that there was a peppercorn dressing choice, something not offered in many restaurants. Two plates of rye bread halves were put on the table. 8 half slices 7 people, and two of the 7 ordered sandwiches. It was not clear for whom the rye bread halves were intended. read more

My family and I have been going to McPartlan's since I was born, close to 35 years now. While it holds a lot of nostalgia for me, it is also my favorite chicken wings in the country. There is nothing quite like a double order, saucy to go with your fish fry or your Beef on Weck or even another double order! Reading some of the reviews on here seem very unfair, judging on other customers at the bar and older, sometimes easily annoyed servers. I know many of those servers have been working for all my life and then some. It's an older clientele and it's very much a "what you see is what you get" kind of place. It's a hole in the wall. If you want to get some great wings, great food and like a lowkey place, this is a great place to check out. It is not a cool/new/hip place. My friend got a turkey club with french onion soup, and not being terribly hungry I too got just a french onion soup. I thought it was good not great with a bit of flavor lacking and not a ton going on there. The place has this strange musty smell too, I couldn't put my finger on it or stop thinking about it while eating which didn't feel the greatest. My girlfriend and I were embarrassed by the staff and decided to leave immediately. On a busy Friday evening, we entered McPartlan's Corner and were directed by the bartender to sit at one of two available tables that he had pointed us to. There were no other patrons waiting to be seated. As we sat, an elderly hostess approached and smugly stated, "I guess we are seating ourselves now." Afraid that we had done something rude, my girlfriend apologized and explained that we had been directed to seat ourselves and that we did not see a host stand or a "wait to be seated" sign. The hostess then pointed to an individual (who I'm guessing was the owner sitting at another table) and asked if he had told us to seat ourselves. My girlfriend did point out the bartender, who was then at the farthest end of the bar away from us and explained it was him. At this point, the hostess spoke over the dinner crowd to get the bartender's attention and asked him if he had told us to seat ourselves, which he then replied, "ABSOLUTELY NOT." This occurred in the dining room which also could be observed from the bar area. After the smug remark, questioning, and ultimately the attention that was attracted leading up to our integrity being insulted (as the bar tender denied what caused this situation), my girlfriend and I decided that we had become embarrassed to the point that we left. Welcome to the neighborhood! I spent holidays in this area at my Grandparent's house. Then years later I drove by weekly on my way to local bars. I never actually stopped in to McPartlan's until today. Parking is free and off-street. The lot is large enough and there are more spots on the side of the building. The main entrance leads to two doors, the left enters the bar and the right enters the resturaunt half of the building. Everything is well lit with the bar lights toned down for atmosphere. There are 4 low top tables near the bar and high top chairs at the bar itself. The resturaunt half is made up of tables and booths. Bathrooms are between the two areas, and marked by obviously well lit signs. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Fried baloney and onions was amazing with added swiss. It was cooked perfectly and the sautéed onions were delicious. Mustard isn't my thing, but they have a homemade sweet & spicy mustards here. If you're into it, make sure you ask! Price was excellent for the quality, and quality was top end for Buffalo bar food. Other notable mention are daily specials and soups. After Mr. Bills closed, I've not known where to go for family events. Here we have 3 TVs, cleanliness, good food, friendly staff, and plenty of easy parking for the older members. Sadly Disappointing Fish Fry! Four of us ordered fish frys and were found lacking. Fish was fresh and cooked well, but VERY small, about half the size of standard fish fry.
