I came with a large party and was definitely grateful they were able to seat us together (and promptly). Very grateful that at lunch they could squeeze us into a big table without reservations. Regarding the food, I opted for the grass fed burger. It came out a little more done than I anticipated. I made the decision to just keep eating it because it's not like it was well done when I asked for med-rare. It was maybe at medium. That aside, I think something about the flavors was missing something. It was a solid burger, but nothing to really write home about. Definitely opting to come here again in the future, but probably will get something other than the burger. Definitely need to spend more time exploring the school! read more

Booked a last minute stay-cation here with the family and really enjoyed it. We swam in the pool 3 different times, temperature was good, pool was clean, locker rooms weren't crowded. They do a great job of making sure there aren't too many people in any one session, which helps. I love that it's indoor/outdoor - seeing the sky through the huge skylights is pretty neat and keeps the pool area from getting too humid. We had a snack at the Woodshed pub - soft pretzel sticks & BBQ wings - hit the spot after a couple hours of pool time throwing the kids around and splashing with some friends who'd joined us just for a swim session. After checking in, getting settled and some more pool time we ate dinner at the North Shore Lagoon above the pool. Tiki style drinks and the south asian meets pub-style food was what I was expecting (I had the kalbi short beef ribs with jasmine rice). Finished up the night having a chocolate cake at the Tavern restaurant which the kids completely inhaled. Our room was spacious for the 4 of us (2 adults, 2 kids) and quiet despite the city streets and restaurants around us. We ordered room service for breakfast and it came on-time and what we ordered. I especially liked there wasn't the built-in service charge & tip (and yes, I remembered to tip well). The little "principals office" on the 3rd floor of the hotel is a cute touch - cocktails in the evenings and coffee in the AM. We even hit the pool again in the morning before checking out (you can do it after checking out too) which is a nice way to finish off the vacation, at least for my water obsessed kids. We'd brought a few little dive toys, which I'd recommend, since there isn't anything they provide there. Cute little gift shop let us pick up something for some friends & family, and if you're beer-minded (it is a McMenamins) there are pretty awesome growler choices here too. The only thing it's missing is communal places to hang out that aren't attached to the restaurants/bars. I get that the restaurants/bars *are* the business here, but since the hotel doesn't really have a lobby it'd be nice if some of the outdoor seating was "free" to just chill/hang out in when you're not swimming or eating. The hotel is an old school so the space just isn't there for hanging out, except for your room. But overall, I'll definitely keep this on the list for in-town getaways with the family or friends in the future. read more

We had 6 of us (3 couples) stay for a night. All 3 couples (42+ ages) were very excited to spend a quality night on this property. It all started out good and sweet at the Woodshop with Penny. She was fabulous. She took care of us through 2 drinks and had some appetizers (40% tip). We then moved over to the Shed for a drink (which is a fabulous atmosphere- 30% tip) before heading to Tavern on the Square for 7:15 reservations for dinner. This is where it all fell apart. After ordering an appetizer with awful service- we inquired about a bottle of wine for the table and SAM (our waitress) informed us that someone overheard the word "drunk" come from our table and she said "we take our liquor license seriously and we will not serve intoxicated patrons". We all sat and looked at her like "ok- but what does that mean to us?" She said- "we will not serve a patron who is drunk." Again we said, "ok- we get that and totally support that but none of us are drunk or even tipsy". She then walked away to get our food which- coincidently- took twice as long as it should have. After our food got there - we inquired AGAIN about a bottle of wine and Sam acted like it was fine. Like it never happened. It was the STRANGEST thing. She served us a bottle of wine and 2 mixed drinks(0% tip and I have NEVER IN MY LIFE tipped 0% before and we had a $400 bill!!!) So really- what was the point of the comment and insinuation?! All it did was leave us with a bitter taste in our mouth and a crappy dining experience. That comment put a damper on our entire night. Now mind you, we are hard working, responsible adults who were looking for a long awaited night away from kids and responsibilities. We in NO WAY took advantage of the situation and acted like 22 year olds. We were in it for the marathon - not the sprint. And for our server to insinuate that we were drunk like some frat boys, well- that was a slap in the face and totally laughable. I'm not sure I will ever recommend this complex to anyone. While the entire atmosphere was eclectic- and interesting- the accusations were a bit much. Final word - be careful what you say in earshot of staff. Our server at another property bar said they will blackball you from all bars on property if you have a problem with one. Beware. read more

We happen to go on grand opening night, and what a crowd there was! What a neat idea! Same McMenamin's in Seattle, famous for tater tot's! We were super excited to see their flagship store open! Because it was mixed on grand opening night and there was a high school football game next-door the place was absolutely bananas! The wait was around 3 to 3 1/2 hours for a table and the lines for the bars were crazy long. Not to fret dear yelpers, there are 7 acres of places to wander and five bars to go to! The woodshop, the tavern, that Lagoon, the principals office, and I forgot the other one. We got a drink from the main bar, and enjoyed the renovated building. McMenamin's, bought the property and renovated an old schoolhouse keeping some of the names like the woodshop, The principals office. It's a really awesome place to meet people, have some fun, have some food, and have some drinks! But just be prepared, it's brand-new and there will be tons of people! The restaurants will be on OpenTable soon so you can make reservations, but currently they do not take them. And not to worry, even though it was super busy the staff was really nice and made sure you knew, that they knew, that you were waiting. You guys will have a blast here! read more

My third Tripster in 1.5 years and Anderson school remains one of my favorite places to visit. The ambiance here is to die for. You can walk from place to place on the property with drink in hand(lagoon/pool excluded). Movie theater, drinks in the principles office, cigar bar, lots of outdoor areas with fire pits.. It's like bar hopping on a block party! Plus the hotel rooms are all large and have private bathrooms. Covered walk ways get you from place to place without experiencing the Seattle precipitation. read more

I love working with the event staff at McMenamins. I have had 5 separate events there and attended dozens of others, and I feel like they really take it up a level to meet my needs. The Haynes hall is always customized just how we need it. The menu options are diverse. The event serving staff are kind and attentive. It's such a great place to have an event because its diverse and there are so many pre party and after party options for guests. I really enjoy the event spaces on the other side of the theater as well. They have lots of flexibility and feel homey. read more

I will try a restaurant twice! This is our second time to the Woodshop in the span of two years... Our experience was actually worse the second time. PROS: The history in the buildings is amazing. They didn't charge me for what I'll mention below! That is why I rated them 2 stars instead of 1. The Woodhouse has GF options. CONS: *When we first walked on to the property, there was about a 1/2 dozen employees smoking next to rack of propane tanks! There was even a sign posted that read "No smoking within 25 feet." We should have walked away right,then. *We sat at the bar to watch the Hawks play. We (2) of us were asked our orders! I gave mine first, and before my other half ordered, he walked away and stared at the computer for a few minutes. It was odd! The entire ordering process took a while. It wasn't busy either! *When our food arrived, my other half's chicken waffles looked like they went to Costco, warmed it up and put it on a plate! It was definitely not worth the $14.00 it cost. * As we sat there, we looked around and it was filthy. There were cobwebs up high. It had a pretty gross smell too! We also witnessed a waitress shatter a glass on the taps! She was very nonchalant about cleaning it up. I was concerned about glass ending up in other drinks and food. *1/2 way through my Ruben, I found a long black hair and instantly lost my appetite (see pics). Based on the observations of the customer service, attitudes of the servers and the lacking attention to healthy food practices, I wasn't surprised! I will say they did write this and my drink off our bill and for that I was grateful! *Not once we're we asked how our food was! I had to flag someone down to show them the "Hairy Ruben." With all of this considered, our experience was very disappointing yet again! There is a lot of room for improvement in customer service, employee attitude, healthy conduct, food safety and upkeep of this facility! Went here with a group of couples for a birthday weekend expecting to have a great time. We sat down in the Tavern for drinks, had one drink inside while waiting for a larger area outside. The server came up and asked who would be paying for "some expensive shots" that were ordered by the guys in our group sitting next to us , insinuating we couldn't pay or weren't going to pay. We assured him they would pay for their shots. We then had reservations at the restaurant for dinner, we ordered drinks and a couple apps as well as dinner. We sat there being served nothing for 45 minutes except some shots the guys ordered. Perplexed, we asked the waitress where our food and drinks were and she told us we were cut off and that they were told to watch us when we arrived. We asked why because we were doing nothing wrong. All she told us there was a noise complaint. There were very few people even in the restaurant and nobody near us. It was very apparent we had been Targeted for some reason we didn't know and we were being treated very poorly from the moment we arrived at McMenamins. We were having normal conversation waiting for our food that never arrived. We then asked to pay our tab for the shots and the apps that came out as we asked to pay. We were literally treated like garbage, we were not drunk and disorderly, nor were we loud and obnoxious. We tried to ask what we did wrong and the waitress just said she was told to cut us off and not serve us (all without saying a word to us until we asked what was going on after 45 minutes of sitting at our table). We then went to the Lagoon, we were seated and immediately told that we were cut off and could order non-alcoholic beverages. It was so outrageous how we were treated. We got up and left. We ended up eating and being served drinks at a restaurant not in the McMenamins establishment down the street which was fabulous. We spoke to managment and asked why we were being treated this way. They told us that someone complained that they heard a racial slur and/or a homophobic comment from someone in our group. They couldn't tell us what the comment or comments were, or who the person was that apparently made a comment. They just decided it best to Blacklist our group form the establishment. We were flabbergasted as none of us are racist or make homophobic comments. It was a disgusting display of unprofessionalism and discrimination and we will never go back there. It was so disappointing as we all had rooms there and were expecting to have a great time at a really cool place. read more

I never leave reviews but feel the need to warn others. I should have trusted yelp but thought I've give it a shot. The food was mediocre at best. For the price it was a rip off. The kids burgers for $10 were uneatable....and my kids love burgers and aren't picky. Chik fil a would have been a better experience. We left unhappy and hungry. The fries were good, but they forgot to bring ketchup so had to wait for that, when they did, they brought 1 little cup for 4 meals that had fries. Only 1 person asked if we could get ketchup, so I guess technically they weren't wrong. By the time the ketchup got there, fries were cold. If you go, stick with beer and wine...hard to screw that up. We won't be going back. read more

Much improvement since the opening. As always, the atmosphere is great. Had some work associates up from San Francisco. And they had a great time hitting the bars and doing the photo hunt. Service is still slow, so don't be in a hurry. I had the Mexican chop salad the first time I was here, which was very good. Had the gumbo this time, and it also was very good. One of the guys had the Filet Minion and said it was overdone, so I might caution about how one wants one's steak when ordering. Great place. Just need to keep improving on the food quality. So far we love the tiki restaurant, main restaurant (tavern?) felt a bit overpriced for the quality of food, although we loved the atmosphere. The theater is our favorite thing here though. They have $7 movies, inexpensive snacks, full bar drinks and you can order off the restaurant menu and take your food into the theater. We love coming here with the kids, and ordering an appetizer during our movie, and a couple of drinks. The lagoon is also a hit. read more

The weather was fabulous! My husband and I wanted to enjoy a meal out with our corgi. We actually headed to the nearby Beardslee public house but was told that dogs are not allowed outdoors. We decided to dine here instead. No regrets! We went to " The Woodshop" - this is an outdoor sitting area. At 4.3opm on a Saturday, we waited about 25 minutes for a table. The food was decent. we had kalua pork sandwich & really liked it. above all, What we really like was how dog friendly this place is ( we didn't see water bowl for dogs) but everyone was welcoming and our dog had some treats from the hotel staff :) We also like the portable heaters at the outdoor area , not that we need it today but it will be great on chilly nights! The review of this place were not up to my standards, but friends were insistent that this be the place to dine. Knowing they like to drink, I assumed the choice was most like based on alcoholic choices. Maybe it was a special night. Despite reviews, the food came quickly and was hot and fresh. The French fries were a flavor explosion and the burger was rich and cooked to perfection. That said, I was disappointed, The burger shows as $12.50 on the website which was two dollars too much in my opinion. In reviewing the menu, the burger was $17.50, not 12:50 meaning the website needs to be updated. It was a delicious burger, but not worth $17.50, the ridiculous prices here make this place a stuffy pretentious haven for posers. They don't need my business, nor will they have it. #overrated. read more

The happy hour menu is reasonable, but doesn't include anything too spectacular. If you're a tator tot fan, try Mcmenamin's Cajun tots. We have been to all the McMenamins hotels and we enjoyed our stay at Anderson school. The pool was a great way to refresh and each bar/restaurant had its own special charm. The bar tender at "The Shed" was able to chat things up with my husband about all the best scotches and whiskeys which my husband really enjoyed. Went for breakfast with a group of four. We were seated cordially and very promptly. I ordered a short stack of their "electric" pancakes. When our food arrived I noticed no butter or syrup and I questioned the waitress. She said: "oh yes I forgot that". Then she walked away and did not return for 20 minutes. No one came to the table shortly after food was delivered to ask if the meal was ok. Finally the waitress returned to refresh our coffee. I never received a complete meal. I love McMenamins. We go here often. But my last experience was absolutely a setback. Went out with some family from out of town and decided to take them here, ended up going up to the Saloon. From the start, the server, Angie (I believe was her name), was disrespectful, inattentive, and very unprofessional. She was also uneducated in her line of work, not knowing what a Muscato was, and pretty much all other drinks we requested. I had to explain how to make a Car Bomb. After two drinks in, she said I had to many drinks for under one hour and said she can no longer serve me because the bar tender said "these drinks sneak up on you" Are you kidding? Regardless, if your looking for a good time to hang out with your friends, I'd consider going else where. read more

Go here for the atmosphere. That's my recommendation. McMenamins beer is good. Not great, but let's be honest, in Seattle, we have such a competitive beer scene that it's hard to be considered great. You can still enjoy a wide variety of decent brews here, they just won't necessarily blow your skirt up. And, sure, the food is decent but nothing to right home about. It's better than bar food, but once again not stellar. My advice, avoid the Tavern. The Tavern is a nice atmosphere, but the pricing is above the quality. Go instead to the Woodshop, where you can save a couple of bucks and get similar food. So why did I rate if 4? The atmosphere is great, and considering how crazy the place is, you really can't complain about the service either. Sit outside on a nice day, or even a pouring day, and you'll enjoy a warm fire and protective awning overhead. You can sit outside of either the Tavern or the Woodshop (and I think there might be another outdoor seating area near the pool, but I'm not sure which menu you order off of, or if this is for private events.) A note for new visitors - the wait is usually long for a table, sometimes 2 hours. If you are early, there's a small shed near the hotel, in the northeast corner of the courtyard, where you can just grab a drink. There's also a tiny bar on the top floor of the hotel. Finally, above the pool there's a fantastic bar with a tropical theme, but I haven't eaten here. If you have kids, no problem. Great place and they welcome kids in all sections outside of the rail. In the tiki bar, there are two rooms to the side of the central bar where you can have kids. I think it's adults only after 10. Go here for the gardens and fires and art and pipes. read more

This is a review of the pool. It is a big saltwater pool with a nice large shallow area for little people, going gradually deeper in the other half, and a comfortable warm temperature. Even though it is an indoor pool, there are two open skylights in the ceiling and an open wall with ironwork at one end, making the pool area subject to the current outside temperature. Overall it is clean and lovely. What completely stumps me, however, is why a pool obviously geared towards families would fail to create a family dressing room. MAJOR fail, especially given the fact that this pool acts as a community pool for Bothell residents. The sad little utility closet converted into a "dressing room" next to the check-in station in the lobby is clearly a too-late attempt to fix such a major oversight: there is no shower or access to a toilet from this spot and you will still have to go into a regular dressing room if you want to lock up your items. Plan for this if you have an opposite gender kid that is "too old" to go in the dressing room with you, but not quite old enough to navigate the dressing room solo. read more

My family and I went here for lunch today and we were treated quite rudely. It started when I approached the host and was dismissively told to "hold on a second" without so much as a glance or greeting. After a few minutes we asked for a table outside, and were told it would be five minutes before A table was ready. Fifteen minutes later, and after watching at least three other parties sat outside I commented out loud how we were still waiting to be helped, and was answered by same rude host in a very irritable and condescending tone that we had already "had that conversation haven't we?" Rather than make a scene in front of my family, because naturally I was incredibly angered by his attitude, we left and had a wonderful outdoor lunch at 571 whiskey bar next door. My suggestion for anyone reading this review is to find much more hospitable dining, and my suggestion to Mcmenamins management is to better train their staff in politeness. read more

I've been in quite a few times as I live right across the street. The thing that they do best is the ambiance. It's fun to sit outside or walk around the grounds with a drink in hand and see all the cool stuff they've done. However, that's about where it ends. Beer: mediocre at best, stick to hard drinks or wine Food: When it comes, it's not too bad, but it's usually cold and something wrong with the order. Service: SLOW AS ALL GET OUT! I mean seriously slow, like waiting an hour for a burger slow, like G -L-A-C-I-A-L S-L-O-W. Terrible, horrible, maddening slow. I/we live local in Bothell, and enjoy the nice 2 mile walk on a brisk morning to McMenamins at Anderson. Unfortunately each time, we've been terribly disappointed with the service. It truly is about the worst we've ever experienced as frequent as we've dined and reviewed across the state and country. The layout of the grounds is very well laid out, with many table side fire pits and great atmosphere. Unfortunately there's hardly anybody around to keep them tended to and lit. At the end of the day, this place needs an overhaul of management, hold staff accountable for checking up in their paying patrons, and hire more headcount. I'd ordered 2 poached eggs on a biscuit. It took 45 minutes to come out, our server/bartender not once checked with us to advise of reason for delay or to see if we'd like anything while waiting, nor checked on our seats even once during our breakfast, to maybe ask us if everything was okay, or to offer anything else. Ziltch. 4th visit for breakfast, only because I'd figure giving the benefit of the doubt each time, but they've consistently proven to fail each time. Great idea, but get things figured out. The actual location is fun and the drinks are always good. However we ate at the tavern today and I've been sick in bed and the bathroom for four hours. My husband (whos stomach can handle almost anything) has had explosive diarrhea and a headache since we ate there today as well. We only had the crab and artichoke dip and some of the butternut bisque so if I were to guess what it was I'd probably have to say the dip... bummer dude. read more

It s a cool place, just like the vast majority of McMenamins. I am glad they saved this place. They did a good job with the themes. The cabin in the middle is great. This place can get overwhelmed very easily. If you get there and it is busy, it will take a while to get someone to come by and get your food. Speaking of food. The Tots are massive and good. Do you love chandeliers? How about craft beers and chandeliers? I don't know what one has to do with the other but they certainly are abundant at this former institution of learning. The Mrs. and I stayed a couple days and nights and left more relaxed than Snoop Dog on propofol. The problem with writing a review is there is just so much to cover. I'll try and give the Reader's Digest version. For a big fan of drinking, swimming, art, and not cooking for myself this place is a paradise. You can drink everywhere except for the parking lot so when you head to the pool you have to chug down what you have. Not to worry because once you cross that dry fifty or sixty feet you can grab another drink upstairs in the Tiki bar. The pool only goes to 4'10" and I like to swim deeper than that but in retrospect it may be for the best. Let's just say that if you're over 5'6", the water is 85 degrees Fahrenheit, and your blood alcohol level is over .25 all you have to be able to do is stand up and you'll survive. If you can't stand grab a bunch of water noodles and float your drunk ass around a bit. There is art everywhere you look. The place is a visual wonderland as long as you can see straight. We're not talking some lame Bob Ross inspired landscapes or the usual hotel minimalist modern art that looks like a child had the paints taken away mid stroke. The halls are filled with all different styled pieces mostly memorializing former school staff and alumni. There are chandeliers of every race, creed, color, religion, political backgrounds and sexual orientation all throughout the rooms, the stairwells, the restaurants, ect. When it comes to gentle illumination these guys are not playing around. We had room service breakfast, dinner in the wood shop, a couple meals in the former cafeteria and all of it was excellent. The staff are great but I think they must deal with a lot of picky uptight snobs because there was this consistent nervous vibe. I ordered the Reuben for lunch with some trepidation and I was overjoyed when it did not come with soggy bread. I must applaud the chef and the wait staff. If the chef doesn't drain all the excess juices from the corned beef and sauerkraut and then the waiter or waitress lets it sit too long then what you end up with is a soggy mess. Yeah, maybe that makes me sound like a bit of picky snob but I've eaten many ah soggy Reuben rather than sending it back so put that in your glass judgement pipe and toke away. Note of caution for my fellow inebriates. They have booze of every ilk including high end liquor so if that's your kick then start with the $15 shot of barrel aged such and such but when the buzz kicks in switch to something a bit more economical or you're going to have to refinance the house when you sober up. The McMenamin's beers are great and you can only do so much damage to yourself and your wallet if you stick with the that. I didn't make it to the movie theater but they were showing Rogue 1 and that's pretty darn cool. If the Mrs. had wanted to see the movie again you best believe we would have. Another regret is I didn't take the brewery tour but Straight Outta Compton was on cable and we got sucked in. Next time! read more

This place is literally puts Bothell on the map! I wish there was something like this in California. McMenamins Anderson School was previously a (you guessed it) school that was reconstructed into a resort, restaurant, and bar area. Think of it as an adult playground. It covers a lot of ground and many of the schoolrooms are still in existence and converted into different pieces of the resort (i.e. their Principal's Room is now a bar). It's a really cool concept and well executed. There are 5 bars at the resort, a pool (not just pool tables, but an actual swimming pool!), a couple of restaurants, and banquet hall, a hotel, a movie theater, and reception area. The ground are sitting areas with fire pits, table, and seating. The drinks here are pretty good and reasonably priced. They have different types of mules, all sorts of whiskeys, bourbons, scotch, and vodka, and a plethora of beers on draft with the McMenamins namesake. Their menu looked good too, though I had not tried any of the food. That will be on my To Do List the next time I'm in the Snohomish County area! Apparently, the pool closes at 8 PM or when there is inclement weather since it's an open rooftop, so being your bathing suits! Definitely a place to check out if you're in the area! read more

Very friendly and enthusiastic staff. Had an infrastructure issue, I complained and they compensated me to the extent of the Sunday staff's authority, which would have been enough for me. When I got the bill, they had compensated me much more, wholly on their own initiative. I'm a very happy non-camper! Other than that, very clean, comfortable, and it's really nice to see staff who realize that abundant enthusiasm is the purest gold for customers. read more

We love the Anderson school! Most recently had a wonderful time going around collecting stamps for our new passports! Elizabeth from the wood shop especially stands out as a hospitable, informative server who helped to make our experience super fun! read more

Some girlfriends and I came here for a sleepover to celebrate our friend's birthday. I'd been wanting to check it out for ages but hadn't gotten around to it and I'm glad I finally did! The hotel itself is nothing overly amazing. It's an old school converted into hotel space so it's pretty cool, but mostly your standard McMenamins. Unlike some, this hotel has en suite bathrooms which is much appreciated. There are multiple bars and restaurants in the hotel plus an amazing soaking pool. The pool is heated but has an open roof so you get the fresh outdoor air, too. The pool was full of kids, probably because it was midday, so it wasn't as relaxing as it might've been later in the evening. Still nice, though! There's an adorable little gift shop onsite as well, which includes a little coffee shop. I loved exploring all the different places on the property and it was cool reading info about the school and its teachers. Definitely a place to check out! read more
