Do not take your clothes to McKinley's Dry Cleaning.
I had taken a dress there to be shortened, and came back two weeks later. "That'll be $99.09."
I thought surely it was a typo, but the person who was helping me (who apparently doesn't work there very often) called the boss and relayed the following (none of which had been communicated to me): 1. They'd sent out my dress to another service, as it was an alteration they couldn't handle; 2. The professional there had to undo several panels; and 3. Chiffon requires a special machine.
I can understand all of these being special conditions, however, I would expect this information to be communicated before the day of pickup. I don't appreciate being surprised by an alteration bill that equals the cost of the dress itself.
The person behind the counter was very apologetic, and talked to his boss again about a possible discount or store credit, but the response was a flat "No," even though "he acknowledges that it's his fault for not contacting you."
I consider this to be taking advantage of the customer. I can't imagine the typical client anticipates a simple tailoring request to cost $100. The fault lay with McKinley's owner, and though he seemed more than ready to take the blame, he still stuck me with the bill.
I will avoid McKinley's from now on, and I advise you to do the same. read more
