We have been using this place for a few years. We do have several vehicles and I've bringing each one of them for smog certificates when needed. Okay, Yelpers, you had me come to Motown half an hour earlier than I would have for a planned lunch at Golden Corral with family just to get my car smogged across the street. Thank you. Not a lot I can say beyond what has been said. It's a small, clean shop with good rates and great service. Nothing condescending or gruff about these men. On a side note, they love pugs and have several "American Graffiti" pics hanging on the garage wall. If the DMV says your car needs a smog check, and you live within a short drive of Modesto, then this is the place to come. read more

Great, great, GREAT place! AAA DMV said I needed a smog check to get my stickers for registration. I called McHenry Smog and they gave me an appointment for later that they. They did it so fast and gave me the certificate. $40 for a 2015 SUV. The lady at the front desk was very nice. The man who did it, Kuhn, I believe, was so very nice and welcoming. This place is totally awesome. I called on a Monday, made an appointment for a few hours later. Business was booming, parking was very tight. The receptionist is a real sweetheart, treats you with respect. She's quick, knows what's she's doing and kept the tech busy. The tech was also on the ball. He was hustling, doing everything per Smog Regulations. I watched the tech do a few smogs before mine and he seemed to really care for the customer, me made sure he wore gloves and kept your vehicle clean. With Covid this is a concern. I was so impressed with the system the receptionist and the tech had I was in and out with in 30 minutes. These two were working hard, they both had smiles and appreciated my business. Thank you! As usual, they made a thing I don't like doing a good experience. It was my trucks turn this time. I'm there at least once a year with a different vehicle. There were a few people ahead of me, but the wait wasn't bad. DONT COME HERE! This place will fail you for every and anything they can possibly find! I've came here twice, once with a truck that had no problems, and they failed me but it passed as soon as I got a second look at it at another place without making any changes to it! and another time with my Honda and my Honda passed every single thing there was to pass about smog, but the guy went further and inspected my car then he found a reason to try to get more money out me and he failed me for not having a cam shaft cover! All never go back these people they are out of there minds....what does a cam shaft cover have to do with smog? read more

I've been taking my cars to McHenry Smog since I don't know when. You have a choice of setting an appointment or just showing up. Either way, I have always had great customer service with a smile. I called this morning to get an idea of cost for a smog and certificate for a vehicle transfer. They were very friendly and helpful, quoted me $40 out the door. I did not set an appointment as I had several other appointments to go to prior to this, plus I had my newborn with me and was not sure if he would still be doing okay after running around all morning. Around 1PM I stopped in with my little guy who was napping and was promptly greeted and was told it would only be ten minutes. If it was ten minutes that was the fastest ten minutes of my life! The price was as quoted over the phone and I was back on the road in no time. I will definitely be back for future smog jobs. read more

If I could write a one-word review that encapsulated my experience at McHenry Smog Center. One word that would describe the customer service, and the time it took to get my car smogged. ONE WORD to describe how my visit to this establishment went... it would be... Awesome! Some of the friendliest, sweetest people I have met in the service industry. I felt like I had known Khanh and the lovely lady behind the counter (sadly I didn't catch her name) for some time. This was my first visit, and will not be my last! Been here many times with many vehicles, including my RV. They can be pretty busy, but if you call ahead, they'll make you an appointment, and they are good about getting their appointments in on time or early. Their prices are very fair - they didn't overcharge like some places do for the RV, which I appreciated. Friendly staff, good service, good price. read more

I got screwed by another smog shop so I took my truck here and explained to the tech what was going on. He hook my truck to his scanner and told me it's not ready for smog drive some more, I came back and he said it's still not ready come back Monday. He check my truck twice for free. That speaks volumes of what type of shop this is. I'll never go anywhere else again. Highly recommended read more

I appreciate that this business does give Dmv the notice for pass. All I had to do was go the following day to one of those kiosk that have DMV and got my registration right away. I drove to The Smog Shop which was out of my way and told the owner what his friend said. Long story short - I did not receive any discount and when I told the owner he hadn't given me a discount....he assured me he had until I pointed out the price sign on his wall that clearly showed he had not. He then told me that everything has " gone up" and that he was less expensive than any other smog shop. That is not true. I had to listen to this guy bad mouth other smog shops stating they had "ripped off customers," but I don't see how he thinks he's any different. He could have told me from the beginning that he wasn't giving me a discount and then I could have left and found another less expensive smog station since his charges were higher than any other shop I've been to in the past. I let the owner know that I will not be doing business there again.
