We came in for a smog inspection on an older vehicle and ran into issues with communication and professionalism. We understand that smog checks on older vehicles are not always quick or painless, and that issues can come up. However, the interaction itself made the experience more frustrating than it needed to be. The gentleman we dealt with was short and somewhat flippant when explaining why the smog could not be completed due to an issue with the catalytic converter. A bit more time and willingness to explain the issue clearly would have gone a long way, rather than assuming the customer should already understand technical details. Because the issue was related to emissions, we asked about the type of repair work that might be needed to address the problem and potentially allow the vehicle to pass smog. We were prepared to move forward, but the response felt dismissive, as though our questions or business were not of interest. The price for the smog itself was reasonable, but the lack of clear communication and the overall tone left us with the impression that we were an inconvenience rather than customers looking for help. Ultimately, that confirmed we won't be back. read more

I called around noon because my car wouldn't start, they told me to bring it in. Tow truck dropped off my car about 1:30. Steve called me by 2 told me it was the starter and quoted me a price roughly $200 less than I thought it would be. He said they could get to it first thing in the morning. No problem. By the time I got off work at 5 (same day) Bradley called to say I could pick it up. Steve waited for me after closing and it cost $80 less than the estimate. Steve and Bradley were very professional and had me back on the road in 4 hours! Highly recommend 10/10 read more

Steven my smog check technician got me and out within 15 - 20 minutes. Facility is breezy and clean since it's right next to 99. Gave me an upfront charge which I think is really reasonable compare to other place I've gone to. read more

It was a pleasure to meet the new owner Mo. It's obvious that he enjoys people.,He goes the extra mile to give good explanations & service. I think he will do great in managing this business. It was encouraging that he worked under the previous nice owner. Mo obtained needed certifications while working there before purchasing the business. The previous owner returns to help out from time to time. read more

Like the vast majority of California motor vehicle owners you hate reading on your DMV vehicle registration form "Smog Certification Required". On top of the registration fees now you have the Smog station charge. If you have to get it done and you live in Modesto you cannot do any better than going to Steve Kosko's Stanislaus Smog and Repair. Being very conveniently located on N. 9th just off Highway 99 you're only minutes away regardless of where you live in the Modesto area. Steve's price is more than reasonable, he's very efficient and a quite personable young man. If you've got to have it done it's better if it is a somewhat enjoyable experience. I highly recommend Steve's shop to anyone needing a Smog Certification. While I did not require the more indepth STAR Smog Certification I "believe" Stanislaus Smog and Repair is also a STAR station. Not being 100% sure I'd recommend that you call ahead just in case I'm mistaken. Need a Smog? Then check him out as he does it well and at a fair price. read more

Very friendly, knowledgeable, and very good customer service: There where a few cars there but they got me in and out without hazles. It seems that other smog places I have gone to in the past are always shady and the price changes or something like that this place was very professional and will be coming back for all my vehicles when they need smog. They also do other services such as breaks, tune ups and smog repair if your car does not pass smog test. read more

I recently had work done on a 1971 C3 Corvette, Steve took the car in after a 3rd party brought it to Steve and it sat due to availability of parts and some miscommunication. Steve and I were brought together by a 3rd party , once Steve and I started working together, the parts were delivered to the shop and Steve (being a stand up guy) did his best and was able to hit a deadline set by the paint shop . He replaced 2 trailing arms and did a lot of work to the driveline ! During this time , it was apparent that the brake system needed a lot of work ! I asked Steve if he could hit another deadline for me with getting the brakes completed by the following Saturday, Steve was upfront and said he doubted it but would do his best ! Well not only did Steve accomplish getting 2 new rotors and 4 calipers and brake lines in time .... he was also able to complete the task 1 day ahead of schedule!!! Steve is a throwback to an era when men gave their word because it was their bond and deals were done on a handshake!! Steve, thanks for all your hard work!! I appreciate everything you did to help move my stalled out project , to get it back on track !! If you need smog done ? Or own a corvette or any vehicle??? Go see Steve .... he will help you out !! read more

I Always Take My Business Here. Fast Friendly Service Highly Recommended & In My Local Community

I came by the shop at 5:15 45 minutes before closing the owner sad around looking at a customers car took my paperwork in and then at 5:30 grilled me and gave me an attitude asking if I can come earlier and why they come so late. I had even called earlier and they didn't answer their phone and I drove over and was there by 5:10 PM. I definitely do not recommend this place to anybody that needs work done to their vehicles if the owners have an attitude about making money I suggest you take your business elsewhere to other businesses that need it and honor the times that they are open read more

Customer service has been so strong, from diagnostic to repair. Michael apparently was a mechanic teacher at some point, therefore his explanation of problem and preventative measure was appreciated in laymen terms. Fast in getting it started and completing same day for brakes, rotors, and leaking hose somewhere. I appreciated Michael shopped around for this hose as it was much more expensive than he has seen in the past for my 2001 Acura TL. Sound decision indeed. read more

Very impressed by the service here. Steve was able to complete my smog check in 20 minutes. The price was more than reasonable. Very accommodating, as when I first arrived I mentioned that I was concerned if there was going to be a long wait. Steve immediately assured me that my car was next and the whole process only took 20 minutes. I will definitely be returning for future smog checks. Their hours are also fantastic, so due to my work schedule it worked out great. Thank you Steve for such convenient and accommodating Smog Service! FYI, when pulling up, go all the way towards the back passing other shops, once you see the shop sign Stanislaus Smog , you go around the shop on the RIGHT hand side, that's where parking is, and entry for the shop to pull in your car. read more

10+ Stars for Stanislaus Smog, and my eternal gratitude to Steve the technician. You get more than your money's worth and that includes those individuals who are on a tight budget. I have been to many smog stations in Modesto and this is the first place where their wasn't any fine print to read. Other places had advertised $19.95 for a smog test yet when I arrived with my full size van the price ended up being anywhere from $58.00 to $68.00 but here all I paid was $40.00 including the certificate and received professional, considerate and generous service. I will never go anyplace else other than here. STEVE THANK YOU, YOU ARE THE GREATEST!!!!!!! read more

YOUR ANSWER IS A LYE!!!!! My car passed all the tests the only it did not passed was the VISUAL. That means your option to pass it or not. You decided not to pass it, maybe you wanted $omething el$e!!! The referee said "yes I have some people failed by these place I'll have to talk to them". He asked me way they failed me, he said it is a decision of the technician, and he did not understand why it failed, there was no smoke but only some moisture but it is normal on american cars, and it PASS without any problem. And you are right no repairs needed. That is what the repair shop said," There is nothing to repair". read more

This place is great! I've been going here for 6-7 years now and always leave very pleased. I get a detailed explanation of everything and they always tell me any concerns they have with my vehicle. Great customer service and price! Had me in and out in 15 minutes AT LUNCH TIME! read more
