Would not recommend if you want fair prices and trustworthy people. My car did not pass smog and thankfully the repairs were covered by the CA program. However there was one thing that was not covered by the CA program which was my check engine light was non functional. (Which I understand because that doesn't directly affect emissions) The bulb had just burnt out, is what they told me. I spoke with Johnny on the phone and he told me this would cost $150 for this. I proceeded to ask questions about this and how long it really takes to switch a bulb, he insisted it is a Long and lengthy process that takes an hour. I told him I would call him back. So I watched a few YouTube videos and decided it looks pretty easy so I told him I would do it myself. I picked my car back up and I had it done in less than 10 minutes. Took 0 mechanical knowledge, just a couple of screws. Nice try Johnny! read more

Very well managed shop. Quality work. Efficient/quick every time. Price is reasonable. Wife and I have come here for several years for smog checks. They are quick as it can be and always very organized, so whatever time they tell you is spot on. They are polite and communicate clearly. In the office last weekend, there was a customer concern that could have gone sideways. The customers started off a little escalated, but it ended up just needing a little communication (it sounded like they just called a different shop than this one and got confusing information). The shop manager was super respectful and responsive. They found a solution that worked for everyone and everyone was happy within a few minutes. I just love seeing Modestans finding a peaceful way to resolve a potentially difficult situation! They do basic repairs besides smog. I was overcharged by this company that hires non certified technicians to work on your car than charge you like an actual mechanic worked on it. I got my car back after about 3300$ in repairs but then the oil pressure dropped suddenly and my engine blew. I never had any problems with it before and after 3300 in repairs my car goes to sh** . I had to have the BAR come in and prove they did me dirty and i got some money back. But now my car is garbage and these crooks keep working read more

The young lady in the front office is the heart of the whole operation. She is very knowledgeable and on top of everything even though she is very busy. And the whole isn't is very easy on the customer because she is so wonderfully competent Along with sweet personality and really makes a person very welcome. Also the staff doing the testing and repairs are great and did a fine and thorough job for me and took away the stress and worry I was having over testing and repairing. My family has been going to this business for 5 years now. They have been very polite, professional and dependable. They do what they say. You're in and out in 30 minutes unless an unexpected problem shows up. I personally didn't have and problems but I witnessed a couple's whose vehicle had some problems. I think his name was Tony?, he explained everything to them why their vehicle didn't pass and what needed to be done. They paid for the smog service. They were told they could do the work and the estimate or they could take it somewhere else. But... after the work is completed bring the vehicle back and they will re-test for free. I went in to check prices and if appointment needed. I talked to Johnny and he let me know of a special for my smog check. I probably had too many questions but he answered kindly and by luck he was able to fit my vehicle in. It was at the end of the day and he said his crew was efficient and fast. I took his word and during the time the crew was going thru the inspection I noticed while they worked and talked they appeared to be happy it being end of day they talked and never stopped working. WOMEN 'LISTEN UP"---You know, the dreaded issue. Going to buy a car or bring your car to a mechanic is always a fear. Why? Because so many times the men are either unethical sales men or truly lechers. Either situation many times women "get screwed"........ WELL... wait no longer, fear no more!!!! This shop is ethical and honest. This shop and its owner Johnny is a gentleman and respectable. I am so lucky I "happened on" this operation by chance when I needed my old 1992 Honda Civic CX smog checked. My car although maintained perfectly and with very very low mileage did not pass the CALIFORNIA tests. Worse yet the price to repair it was a huge and unexpected price tag of +$800 dollars. Johnny could have just said pay up, but instead he took the time to explain my options and tell me exactly what I could do to say my money, use a little of my time, and get my car fixed and up to code. (There is a California government subsidy program that pays for you to either replace the catalytic converter or be given up to 10,000 dollars to buy a new car). I followed Johnny's directions, brought my car to the government event, brought it back to Johnny to confirm that he must order the converter, and later when the converter came he, he -- the busy owner surprised me with a call, a suggested time the next day for an appointment, and my car got fixed and passed the CA test!!!! Easy and hassle free from dishonesty and other problems so frequently the case at many car shops. Wish they could of told me before anything they are professionals there are the once's with smog check license they should inspect a vehicle and ask questions before smoging it I had my car for 6 years now I got it from a family member the had it for years also since it was new of the lot he replaced some cold air intake k&n cali legal and exhaust also cali legal and my car passed every smog check iv been to no problems no check Engine or anythig this is a Bmw those cars if they have any issues they will not pass smog due to The computer giving codes I just took my pick up truck I bought not to long ago to a different smog place and they did a visual inspection before they even did anything and told me you need to fix it from here and there and then scanned it for free and told me to replace those parts and come back I honestly don't recommend this place for nothing you can tell they don't care about customers they just want to smog you and bye instead of checking and inspecting eveything first read more

I have been working with Smog Check Unlimited since November (or maybe sooner) 2019. I recently purchased a 1987 Ford E250 Econoline Van and needed to get the van smog compliant. I tried several places who all turned me away because they did not know how to work on older cars, especially ones that aren't fuel injection (my van is old meaning carburetor). Johnny and Hope were amazing! They were always clear with me on what is happening and honest on the overall health of the van. They were honest about cost upfront and kept me informed throughout the process. More importantly, I recommend this shop because they were patient with me and my van and didn't mind putting in the work to help me bring this beauty of the vehicle to life (smog life that is). They have a great network of professionals they connect with when (and if) they needed a second opinion. They will remain a contact in my address book and I will continue to bring them my business and refer as much as possible. Oh they are also very reasonably priced. I couldn't be any happy with the results, their services, and overall experience. I am very grateful for their help! Last little note for everyone else: I knew going into this situation with my van that the repairs will probably take a while and most likely be ongoing. When I was reading reviews of other businesses and just in general consumer's experience, I have learned that consumers' expectations are usually off and not aligned with reality. im so surprised to see these other negative reviews! I rarely yelp but I had such a good experience with these folks that I wanted to share! I was on a time crunch today to get a smog between 4pm and 530pm, long story short if I didn't get it done today then I was going to not be able to make it in for the rest of the week due to work and I was going to be late getting my vehicle tags and hit with a late fee. anyways, I was meaning to go to another place I saw on yelp with a high review on mchenry and bangs, but I missed my turn so I had to backtrack, flipping a u turn into motor city court. I intended to turn around BUT I saw this business and said "hey! im here, lets do this!" the young lady at the front desk was very polite, helpful and frankly a hoot. I told her I hated to ask because it was obviously my fault for being in a rush but I asked her approximately how long it would be til they were done (it was about 445 at this point). she said since there was only 1 other car they could get me out of there as soon as 515 or so. good enough for me! so I sat down, watched the news a little bit, just waited. not 10 minutes goes by and she sticks her head out the door from the office into the shop and says "hey, how long for xyz's car? she has to go to work!" ... LOL ... I hadn't even asked and she knew I was in a hurry! they finished my smog in no more than 20 mins, including paperwork, and I was out the door. everyone I had contact there was friendly, efficient, and QUICK! they are a little out of my way but I will be going to them for all my smog needs in the future. I took a brochure with me when I left and it looks like they do oil changes and basic tune up/brake services etc too. next time I need those kinds of services ill be sure to go to them and report back. only held back one star because hey, it could have just been a lucky break to have been in/out in so short a time. always room for improvement right? read more

My car was making a loud knocking noise after further inspection of the vehicle they quickly found that the tensioner on the timing belt gave out. They were able to replace it and had my car up and running the very next day which was a big relief for me. I really appreciate the hard work and honesty here . I want to acknowledge how the owner of this shop is always in there working with his team side by side and how he is very polite and respectful to his crew. The owner is a real team player always asks for his mechanics suggestions and there opinions on things. when I hear that kind of stuff makes me feel good about who's working on my vehicle because the owner is fully confident in his team. Smog Check Unlimited on Motor City Court is the fastest smog check I have ever had! I have been meaning to do this review, and finally am just now getting to it. Wished I had come upon them sooner. My first positive impact was dealing with Hope. She is to the point and down to business--just what I like when we are all caught up in the fast pace of our lives and just wanting to get to our next thing on our list for the day. Most places it seems you sit, and sit. When they called me up, I thought it was to ask a question or maybe a problem, but it was because they were all finished!
