Our 1977 Chevy Pickup needed the biannual smog completed. Adam was amazing. He was able to set up an appointment for the truck, was ready upon my scheduled arrival and was very friendly. Adam was able to trouble shot my truck because it would not start. The alternator went out and Adam was able to jump start truck so that I could get it to a repair shop. He went out of his way to help me with my stranded truck. After I had the alternator replaced, Adam was able to get me right in and he did not hesitate making it work with his busy schedule. Wonderful service. Adam knows what he's talking about. He's knowledgeable, honest, and a true professional. I've taken all of my vehicles to him and have never had a repeat issue. In fact, two weeks ago my engine kept acting as if it wanted to take off on me even when I was trying to break. I took it to an auto repair shop by my job since it was conveniently located (in walking distance). The guy told me my car needed over $1600.00 worth of work. I freaked out, and started looking for new vehicles. My husband told me, "Let's just take it to Adam and see what he says." So we did. You'll never believe what he found. Yup, the floor mat was pushed under the throttle, pushing the throttle down constantly. That's exactly why my car was trying to take off on me! It's really quite humorous, but seriously... thank the Lord I did not fork over $1600 to the idiot that never thought to check the small details. After going to a shop in Sacramento and being exceedingly unhappy with the work, I decided to go back to Performance Smog, though its 90 minutes away from where I live now. I'd been to Performance Smog two times since my last review and they've done first-rate work, not only with my smog check, but doing necessary repairs. They explain things well, have reasonable rates, and have always been exceptionally friendly and honest. So... if I'm still residing in Sacramento when I get the notice of my next mandatory smog check, I'm driving to Modesto yet again and getting the work done at Performance Smog. I have been having my vehicles smog checked for a few years at Performance and am very happy with them. this year we had to have a diagnostic done to find out why the "Check Engine" light was coming on. Turned out it was the cat converter, which they replaced. Another mechanic was going to charge us over $1000. Performance only charge $60 for the diagnostic and $60 for the part replacement. Our vehicle passed smog - yay! Honest, friendly, fair and efficient - that's how I would describe them. read more

First, I have to say how surprised I am that no one has written a review about this shop before mine! Well I would like to share with you my story: I, like many of you, fell victim to the "10 year law" on my car and was required to go to a "test only" smog station, which I did randomly without researching first. Sadly, my car "failed." I contacted the number that was given to me to request a list of Gold Shield Smog Repair Stations that I can take my car to for repairs. The number of stations that was on that list was so overwhelming, I figured the best thing to do was research them first on Yelp.com. One star, bad reviews - two stars, more bad reviews - no stars, unknown? scary stuff! Fortunately, through word of mouth, I ran across someone out here in the bay area that use to work at Performance Smog, and I went off of his recommendation. I WAS SO GLAD I DID!! I cannot say enough great things about this place, beginning with the BEST customer service I have received in such a VERY long time. Adam was not only pleasant on the phone, he was also above and beyond helpful with advice and walked me through the entire process. The 02 sensor was replaced, and my car passed with flying colors! I contacted Adam based on a reference and good reviews. I was extremely disappointed. He never provided a written estimate as requested and promised. He was very unresponsive to my inquiries. I was only able to leave voicemail & did not get a return phone call for over one week. I had to abandon my plans and incur costs and extreme inconvenience as a result. I needed to get the work done & did not receive an estimate or return call from Adam, so I had to find other provider. I gave up on Adam and Performance Smog, went elsewhere, received excellent service and had a great experience. If considering Performance Smog, for your own benefit you may want to do the same. Adam is awesome. I bought an old truck that I couldn't get to pass smog. Granted I knew it needed a lot of work so I took it to performance. Adam the owner agreed to take on the project but told me in advance he gets very busy and could only work on it when he had time. I didn't need the truck for a few weeks anyways so I agreed. He called me several times to explain where he was at with it and how much. After two weeks I got my truck back with a passed smog and a tiny bill. The truck runs way better also. Thanks Adam!!
