My son took me out for my birthday to the Vancouver McGrath's.The ambience was as I have experienced before, just fine. On the other hand the service was only what was necessary and without a smile. The food was BAD. The clam chowder was so below what I would even consider at the bottom of "award winning" if that, under seasoned, huge pieces of potato and hardly any clams at all let alone onions, celery, or garlic! I ordered crab cakes with a sides of mac and cheese and glazed carrots. The crab cakes were barely satisfactory to eat ( I have had better frozen from the grocery store) more bread crumbs than either crab or bay shrimp (which to me should be against the law to call crab cakes if there is also shrimp in them), no flavor, pasty, and I had to ask for tartar sauce just to get them down, and when your mac and cheese is better tasting than your crab cakes you shouldn't even call yourself a seafood restaurant! The carrots were of the frozen baby carrot variety and steamed, watery and no glaze to be found. My son's meal didn't come too far from this low mark. If this is the fare you are serving on a regular basis you should go out of business!!! read more

Was not worth the money. The baked tortellini was not good. There was way too much cheese, it was bland and I ended up not eating it. The mixed grill and oyster shooters also weren't very good. I really wanted to love this place.... but it's a poor man's Red Lobster. The good: + Expansive menu + Good-sized portions for the money + Tasty sourdough + Friendly server The bad: - Wompy ambience. "Live tank" is totally empty, so is the restauarnt - Our booth was dirty- like dried sauce on the walls that never got cleaned off. Just kind of ick. - The food was mediocre at best. My big win was the baked potato...but it's a seafood restaurant. Next time I have a craving for casual chain restaurant seafood dinner, we'll be heading to Red Lobster for cheddar bay biscuits and better entrees. read more

Seafood is always relatively pricey and McGrath's is no exception. $15 for a fish sandwich with 2 pieces of fish and a small cup of clam chowder seems high. Thankfully, McGrath's honors military veterans by given vets a free meal on Veterans Day. We also had a 3 piece cod fish & chips and as seen the photo, small pieces of fish and not many fries. The meal did come with soup (chose Fisherman's stew, a nice tomato-based soup with small chunks of fish). All the flavors were good, only downside was quantity of food. Beer batter coating on fish was crunchy and fish was flaky. Service and atmosphere were very good, though a bit brightly lit. If craving seafood, this is a good choice in Vancouver. read more

Our family had a great meal here. The menu has many options and a wide variety of foods, even items for folks that don't enjoy seafood. My favorite items are from the wood fired seafood. We had good service and everything came in a timely manner. The family feast dinner to go is an option we have enjoyed previously and is a great value with nice size portions. Vancouver, WA. Outstanding wait staff. I would suggest goin late afternoon or early evening on the weekend. They are so good at preparing food, they tend to run out of men items. I could rightly say negative things about the restaurant, but that wouldn't be fair. My entree choice was sold out. The wait person offered to substitute Alaska Halibut. I happily accepted. When it arrived, it was so overcooked, the fish was not edible. The on shift wait staff manager was very apologetic, offered to substitute a new plate. I told her no thank you, it was getting late. So she chose to not charge us for the entire meal. It was at this point the wait staff manager apologized and advised the actual manager of the restaurant had prepared the halibut. I think they should keep him away from the grill, just sayin' read more

Came in for dinner in a Tuesday evening with my neighbors. It's been since before Covid that I had been to this place. The bar was filled with a bunch of senior citizens like I remembered from the last time I was there. We sat in the restaurant and we seated at a small booth. We asked for the bigger booth right next to us as it was much larger for my 6 foot 4 neighbor of mine. There were only two tables filled in the dining area. We were planning on getting the shrimp feast as we had coupons for it with $2.00 off. Our waiter showed up and got our drink orders. He came back with some waters and then went to get our drinks. I got the seafood pasta and it was actually pretty good. My neighbor, the big guy got one of the specials- the Cajun catfish. We got our salads and immediately noticed how small the salads are. But it was nice as they added some peas radishes to the salad. Kind of different. We got our meals and a could not help but notice just how small the portion of food in his meal was for my neighbor who is a big guy. I mean 3 small pieces of fish and 3 small hush puppies. Our waiter did not refill our waters the entire meal and my neighbors wife had to ask to get her iced tea refilled. Their prices are outrageous too. The service pretty much sucks. The waiter asked for the check book holder for the receipt prior to us even leaving our table. He did not even give us a pen to sign for our tip and receipt. We skipped the desert, talked for a bit and got outta there!!! If you are senior citizen and you wanna take advantage of the happy hour then, this might be your place. The food is in large portions so if you look at the price it's double the amount you think you're getting. Think Cheesecake Factory without the wait time even at 2pm on a Monday. I got the Shrimp Louie salad (full size) with a side of clam chowder. Beware: if you order a full size salad, it's so large that you'd need to share it with another person. The salad was good and filling. It was served with a side of thousand island dressing. The potatoes in the clam chowder could've had a minute or so to cook. I took some fries from my mom's plate and I actually really like their fries. The cocktails are on the cheap side $8.50 so I'm thinking stop by the bar, get a drink and some fries. read more

I'm in the area on business and was happy to get seafood, as I am from beef country. I ordered a seafood combo dinner. The service was excellent, Jamie never let my tea glass go empty. My food was freshly cooked, tasted very good and I cleaned my plate. As for the pricing complaints on other reviews, this business is a local family owned business. They don't get the price breaks that a franchise would get. And quality ingredients cost good money. The overhead involved in a restaurant is something else to consider. Utilities, insurance, taxes, something is always broken and needing repairs. The margins aren't all that great and it is really a labor of love a lot of the time. That said, I will be back on return trips to the region. I love to support the mom and pop places. read more

My how the so so have fallen. Back in the day, McGrath's was a pretty decent place to go. I used to take my dad here often and usually always had a pretty good experience. But last night was once again disappointing. Their Sea food feast was on par with Skippers, what they called scallops were the size of mini marshmellows, The crap puff things had next to no hint of crab flavor in them. The fish n' chips were pretty mediocre. The pasta was just o.k. , The Fried shrimp was pretty good. The wife ordered the Admirals feast, and the crab was either old or over boiled, the lobster tail was small and over cooked, and over all she was not impressed. Both my kids ordered the Salmon Burger, despite me trying to tell them I thought that was a bad idea. They both said it was bland and flavorless, despite having the appearance of being over seasoned. Add on top of that a fairly long wait for the meals to come out of the kitchen (long enough, that my son had to leave), and we probably won't be coming back to McGrath's any time soon. read more

We were there December 17th around 7pm and were seated right away. The service was good but the food not really, at least the fish and chips meal I ordered. First the warm sourdough bread was brought out and it nice and still warm but the 'butter' was not butter. It was white and somewhat greasy and didn't spread well - more like lard. I then started on the coleslaw which came out before the fish and chips and I couldn't finish it as it was soggy and tasted old and 'off'. I let it be known to the waiter- also about the butter who was sorry but that's all they had "as the sous chef had gone home". The 4 pieces of fish were small, smaller than our first visit in August when the meal was wonderful and the fish portions too large to eat all of 4 pieces there so I was able to take home two pieces- not this time. We weren't pleased although the place wasn't busy but quiet and comfortable and as mentioned we got a table without reservations. We'll look elsewhere for something better. read more

Ambiance is cute. A lot of background music from the 60s, 70s, 80s. Service is very slow and relatively not attentive. Food is definitely subpar for the prices they are charging. It's ridiculous. Had the steak and lobster. It was "okay", veggies were pre frozen, over cooked and generally not appetizing. I skipped eating those. Mashed red potatoes were tasteless and gummy. Oysters were terrible. Don't get them. Its a disaster, it's terrible and look at how carelessly they are thrown on the plate. These guys weren't busy at all, so there is no excuse for such careless presentation. Ugh. Skip this and save your $50 read more

Ordered onion rings the breading fell off of every onion ring it became a hassle so I just gave up also had the shrimp sandwich had no idea it was mini cocktail shrimp on the sandwich. Weird experience everting tasted well but also just not done me great. The service (Gwen) was fabulous, the food was great and I wouldn't hesitate to go back the next time I'm in town. Two slight downsides to my visit were the waitstaff the seated me gave the impression that he really didn't want to be there, the place was almost empty at the time of my visit but I got put in the back 40, secondly is more of an issue with a fellow diner that complained about a piece of fish that was under cooked but rather than letting the waitress return it to be cooked a little longer he demanded a fish sandwich to go and then proceeded to continue eating the initial meal. Every dessert was scrumptious. Overall atmosphere is dated. But generally in good shape.
