This was a cute spot to check out for lunch. The atmosphere was very casual and laid back, which made it a nice place to relax. I ordered the fish and chips along with a bowl of clam chowder. The fish and chips were just okay--not very memorable--and the fish itself was a bit oily. The fries also lacked seasoning, which made them pretty plain. The clam chowder was definitely the highlight of the meal. It was very creamy and had a much better flavor compared to the rest of the dish. Overall, it's a decent place for a casual lunch, but I'd probably stick to the chowder next time. Service was ok during lunch time very slow but ok. The food was good, but the nice staff & old school atmosphere made it a 5* experience. No idea why McGrath's won't sell slices of pies, just whole pie? Seems like a missed opportunity. Made a last minute lunch reservation on father's day and there was no issue at all! Service was so quick and easy and very accommodating. I ordered a Caesar salad and it was so big and delicious. The fish was so crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. The fries were excellent and the peach lemonade was amazing. I will say the steak my brother ordered was not the best but I can't say I didn't expect that from a seafood restaurant. But the marionberry cobbler was piping hot and delicious to end with. The setup is great for family or friend. They have great specials and tasty drinks. I would return but I would never order the fried fish. Today I stopped in for a lunch. I decided to go with a pound of Dungeness crab. I've never really had it here. I got the mac & cheese and Caesar salad salad to go with. It comes with really tasty bread and butter. The crab came on the same plate as the mac & cheese. I would prefer that separate. The mac & cheese is super cheesy and flavorful. It is really good. Five stars The crab was OK. I could smell it when it came to the table which is a bit off putting. I decided to go ahead and give it a try anyway. It was good, but I could tell it wasn't super fresh. In their defense, Dungy is out of season right now. However, I did eat a pound of crab over a week ago at the place on the Columbia that is famous. It was seven dollars more than this pound of crab, but super sweet and fresh tasting. So IDK. I usually get the shrimp Louie here or some of their fresh fish. Always good I sat in the bar in the service was great. My server was very attentive and checked back several times on me. Which I appreciated that because I needed more lemon and butter. Food: I don't have my phone or I would have taken a picture - perfect what you ordered (picture) vs what you got segment. :) Salmon was a sliver, 3 bites. So over done it was so dry. Shrimp skewer same small shrimp so over cooked. Hard to eat. This was both meals since we had the same. My baked potato wasn't even done in the middle it was hard and barely warm. The salads were great, the garlic mashed potatoes were the best thing. Corn on cob piece was ok. It took a long time to get our salads and then our food. Service: not great, slow but very nice. At 6p not busy. Server had 3 tables including ours when we sat down. Then just us for about short time. Then additional table of 4 came. Clean but seems a little outdated. Bar was busier probably due to happy hour. I won't be returning. Quality of food is terrible. read more

I have been going to McGrath Fish House for years. Always had a great service. Hot food ,delious hot crab and vegtables. My favorite of all was the sour dough bread. Hot with butter. Yum yum. We have always loved McGrath's but it has apparently slipped badly. Maybe new management? The parking lot was almost empty at 6 PM which should have been the first clue. My wife's rib-eye steak was stringy and the garlic mashed potatoes were inedible. My halibut davinchi was terrible with mushy breading and oily fish and tasteless linguine. The only good items were the bread and my wife's clam chowder. Even my dinner salad was subpar which had always been a standout. We won't be back. Sad! read more

Went for Mother's Day Brunch. Potato's over cooked, crust on quiche raw, and french toast was a slice of white bread toasted without butter. Placed on a plate with syrup. I am a diabetic and had not eaten at all this morning so I was feeling not good which is probably why I didn't say anything when I was there. Called the manager from home and I felt he wasn't concerned about the awful food. The wait person was excellent. We decided to try McGraths for a second time, since our first experience was so favorable. We expected to be wowed again. Unfortunately , our experience was the opposite. The service excellent and the waiter was both cordial and punctual. Moreover, he was sympathetic to our bad experience. To begin with, anything we wanted on the menu wasn't available, therefore , we resorted to Calamari for an appetizer , which wasn't bad at all and the fish taco platters, which were literally soaked in oil! The whole taco glistened, as if the Exxon Valdez dumped gallons of oil over McGraths Fish House. Needless to say it looked, tasted and smelled inedible. In turn we both returner our orders. The waiter was nice enough to comp us, and we left with just as simple bill of Calamari as an appetizer. needless to say we won't be coming back here anytime soon. This experience was gastronomically traumatic, and it looks like we need to venture into Portland to find a high quality fish serving restaurant. In summary McGraths Fish House appears to be hit or miss. In perusing previous reviews the common theme seems to focus on how oily, smelly and bad tasting the fish entrees have become. Went here for a pre-Christmas dinner with my brother and sister-in-law. None us were impressed. There was hardly anyone in the place (may tell you something) and the food was mediocre at best. The good: most of the food quality was very good, especially the seafood/fish. Flavors spot on. Steak a bit tough, but kind of expected from a $30 ribeye. Great live Maine lobster! Cook just right. Portion sizes, large and good value. Sides and garden salads that came with the entrees were excellent. Nice light tiramisu as well. The less good: service was weak to poor. Had a major case of disappearing waitress syndrome. More than once , even when we politely asked for basic service like drink refills or clearing app plates to make room for entrees, or clearing mess from entrees before bringing dessert. Basics. Had to get up and go looking. Very poor. And since the check average is high, percentage wise the tips get huge fast. On a $250 bill, no way did our server deserve a $50 tip. For that much, which we usually gladly pay, when the server just does the basics ok. It's kind of an entitled attitude when servers at other places work their butts off for 20% of $100 for the same party size ($20). So crappy service nearly derailed the experience, but kudos to the cooks and the recipes. read more

I've avoided this place because I'm not a huge fish person, but had some friends visiting and we went for dinner. It was very good! There is a variety of things to choose from and everyone at the table was happy with their choices! I had the chicken pot pie and at first was disappointed that the bowl wasn't deeper/bigger but by the time I finished (all of it!) I was quite full and satisfied! I cannot believe that a fish house can do such a horrible job making fish and chips! Supposed to be cod, however I have never had cod where the filets are no more than 1/2" thick and curled up. The quality of food has gone severely downhill from what it was a few years ago. When my husband and I went recently, the crab legs were not good and the steak we both had was extremely tough and lacked flavor. They also didn't have any fresh lobster.
