Went to Grassa for a small celebratory dinner last night and we definitely chose well. Ordered the tempura asparagus as an appetizer and I recommend it. My guests had a Caesar salad, spring scampi, kids spaghetti and meatball and garlic bread. Everyone enjoyed their choices, although the toddler thought the meatball was a bit spicy for his tastebuds. I tried the sweet pea agnolotti and it was amazing!!! The description stated it was made with horseradish so I was expecting to be able to taste it, but was not, yet I adored this dish very much and highly recommend it. Would be five stars because the food is that darn good, however I cannot overlook the poor service. Unfortunately, some of the less motivated workers make a visit painful. Routinely see counter staff just standing around and striking up conversation with customers, instead of moving the line alone. Grassa in Vancouver is a must if you love good pasta. Parking was super easy, which is always a plus, and the restaurant itself was very clean and welcoming. The food was amazing--fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. You can tell they put a lot of care into their dishes. Great atmosphere, great service, and great food. I visited around 6pm Mother's Day by myself. Place was busy but I was able to order quickly and find a seat at the bar easily. You order at the bar then sit down with a table number. They bring the food to you. My food was delicious! I wish the spaghetti and meatballs had more sauce but I'll just order it with extra next time! Garlic bread phenomenal, my Caesar salad amazing. The service I received from the person at the front counter was great! long blonde haired woman. I totally should've tried to get her name so she could get praise from her peers/boss. Food is Italian, I had the meatballs as an appetizer, they were delicious and the marinara sauce they came in was so good, along with melted parmesan cheese. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and also recommended a few other dishes, I'll be back for the burrata meal. Restaurant is casual and family friendly. Indoor and outdoor seating, full bar and some nice looking signature drinks. Area is fun and on the waterfront ish of the Columbia River through Vancouver, Washington. We went here for the kid who insisted she wanted pasta for dinner. Like every single night of her life. When we saw the fresh pasta sign, we knew that we hit pay dirt. The restaurant is modern and sleek. You order at the counter and they bring to your table. We ordered kid's portion of pasta pomodora which was a good size for a kid. She ate it up and liked it. We tried the red sauce and thought it was acidic, but she did not complain until we said something. So, IMO the food was 3 stars. But one of the guys behind the counter was very helpful when I tried to decide on a draft beer, none of which I knew. He gave some samples which was very nice. So I bump them up to 4 stars for service. The restaurant is not water front so maybe that affects the foot traffic. It was not very busy when we were there. Grassa, on my list for a fairly quick yummy pasta! Upon entering you order at the counter and they give you a number that you take to a table. They bring you your food once ready. It's a relaxed casual vibe. Got the Black Truffle Pappardelle and the Spaghetti Al Pesto. The Pappardelle was really yummy! Perfectly seasoned and flavorful! My personal favorite! The Pesto Pasta also had a great flavor but the sauce was a little soupy. Could have been thicker. Living in the Pacific Northwest, one name I kept hearing over and over was Grassa. Being in downtown Vancouver, the waterfront location is super close, but the first time I tried to go they were out of something basic I wanted, so I kept it moving. A couple of weeks ago, my friend and I finally made it happen. It is counter service. You order, grab a number, and find a seat. We ordered the Fusilli alla Vodka with spicy sausage, pork belly mac and cheese, carbonara, garlic bread, and the Grassa meatballs. Everything was delicious. If I had to pick a favorite, hands down it was the Fusilli alla Vodka. Rich, spicy, perfectly cooked pasta. You can absolutely taste that it is made in house. Halfway through our meal the fire alarm went off and we had to evacuate, which was chaotic, but when we were allowed back in, they remade our entire order to go. That level of service impressed me. The pork belly mac was solid. The garlic bread, however, fell short for me. I like mine buttery and aggressively garlicky, and this one was a little mild. I took it home and fixed it up myself. Drinks were great. She ordered Blueberries for Breakfast, and I got Pictures of Lily. We tasted each other's and ended up swapping because we liked the other person's better. Perfect trade. The place gets busy fast. We somehow always arrive before the rush, but by the time we left there was a long line. Overall, high quality pasta, great service, fun energy. Worth the hype. This was my first time here. I had a good experience here. I got the spaghetti and meatballs and it was delicious. I really liked the meatballs as they had kind of a spicy sausage flavor. The pasta was really good and the sauce was pretty good too. I like that they have a few good microbrews on tap there. I thought the Cesar salad was really good too. It had an anchovy on top of it. No one complained about their meal, but no one was raving about the food either. Everything was balanced okay, but nothing was fine tuned. We ordered the carbonara, black truffle pappardelle, and rigatoni Sunday pork ragú. We also got some garlic bread, meatballs, and their burrata. The burrata came with a nice crusty piece of bread, with lemon jam and pistachios. It was good flavor, but worth $17, not sure. The garlic bread is classic garlic bread. Their meatballs were good, had a hint of spice but nice tomato sauce with it. The carbonara really had no flavor super under seasoned, I thought I would really enjoy this one, but no. The pasta was cooked well, nice fried egg, and pecorino, there was 3 pieces of pancetta. I'm not sure if this is how the dish is supposed to be. The black truffle pappardelle had nice flavor. Rigatoni with Sunday pork ragu was my favorite. It has a nice red sauce with some pork (not that much). For a ragu, I thought it would have more meat on it. All the dishes are fine, wouldn't say amazing. I like that all the pasta is fresh. If I visit again, I'll probably order pasta dishes that are stronger in flavor such as their Rigatoni Sunday pork ragu or their fusilli allá vodka (...see my previous review). read more

First time at this establishment and it was really crowded when we walked in at 4:00 pm on a Sunday evening! That's a good sign! I ordered the Fusilli Alla Vodka. Although it was pretty spicy, the Italian sausage and pasta were excellent! I also ordered the Garlic bread and it was on point. They have a wide selection of pasta dishes on the menu and it changes from time to time. That gives the frequent patron a nice variety to choose from. The decor was upscale and geared toward the "Uppy Class". This restaurant is a must try! My only complaint is the Spaghetti Carbonara wasn't authentic as the egg is scrabbled or over easy and not mixed raw with the spaghetti and cooked enough to coat the pasta! I know they have a few spots in Portland, which friends have raved about. The staple offerings are fine -- the seasonal menu is hit and miss. They definitely shoot for the al dente texture, which is executed inconsistently. When they miss, it's often undercooked than overcooked. Overall, decent price for decent pasta so long as you keep it simple. No table service, but the kiosk still prompts for an 18% minimum tip at the counter. One thing that was quite odd is that they serve their wine like Starbucks serves their coffee: you order it at the counter, they pour it, and then just leave it on the counter for you to pick up. Keep a heads up because if there are multiple glasses of wine on the counter to pick up, there's not a great system to figure it out. Like some other reviews have stated, the outdoor seating is theoretically good, but in practice, it's dreadful because the main street isn't closed to car traffic and is constantly circled by attention-seeking motorcyclists and lifted trucks blaring music and rolling coal. Grassa used to be a go-to restaurant for me years ago, before they expanded to multiple locations, now it's nothing special. This recent visit I did a pick up order of the adult Miles Mac n cheese with a side of garlic bread. The Mac cheese sauce was ok, but was definitely lacking the sharp white cheddar flavor I used to love. The pasta used was still a fun shape and cooked al dente, which I appreciated. The garlic bread tasted like it had been sitting out for a bit too long and was tough to chew. OMG! Some pretty good Italian pasta here and they have a small outdoor patio which made for a nice visit while enjoying the waterfront park area. They also carry a few good beer on draft along with wine. We had the best salad and a pasta dish and both were excellent and will certainly be visiting them again. read more

I have no idea how this restaurant isn't 5's across the board! We randomly picked this place as we were walking by the waterfront and it did not disappoint. We ordered 3 apps and 3 pastas for two people... heheh. Everything tastes amazing. The Brussels sprouts were a bit salty, but still obsessed. The bacon wrapped dates with gorgonzola sounded crazy but omg, it was an explosion of flavors in our mouths! The truffle pasta was my absolute favorite pasta I've ever tried and trust me... I eat a lot! If this place was closer to home, I'd be here everyday! This isn't your typical full service joint. The servers will bring you your meals and clean up the table but water is self served and I think you pick up drinks from the bar. Lots of people were using the space to work and others just picked up their order and left. I really liked the staff too! Super sweet and fun to talk to! We didn't know what to expect for a walk up to order pasta shop, but this place was amazing. I got the spaghetti al pesto and it was no doubt the BEST pesto dish I've had. My husband had the fusilli alla vodka and it was to die for. If you're in this area it is a must try. Our wine we ordered was great as well. I am giving this place 3 stars - not because there is anything egregiously wrong with Grasa and this location, but I want to acknowledge the averageness of the place. But sometimes all you need is average and dependable. Personally I love the fast casual setup. It's great when I don't want anything fancy and I just want food that is tasty, filling, easy and efficient. And it's a great place to meet someone when you don't want to worry about splitting the bill. Parking is usually a pain, and I wouldn't come to this area specifically to eat here, but it's a good spot when I am already here and need to eat. Love the open feel, tall ceilings and tons of windows. Felt good to have the sun shining on me on a rare sunny winter day. Service was a bit slower than I expected but not horrible. Pick up some salt and straw next door for dessert! read more

The menu looked incredible, so much so that it was hard to decide what to order because I honestly wanted to try it all. We asked someone who was standing in line what pasta dish she usually gets but it wasn't on the menu anymore, so she recommended some of the veggie sides. After ordering we looked around the entire place for a spot to sit, there were plenty of high tops open but we really wanted a booth so we waited for a recently vacated booth to be cleaned and reset. Our first course (salad and Brussels) took about 10 minutes to come out which was perfect because we were able to get our waters and have a bit of conversation before digging in. Our pastas arrived shortly after so we switched our strategy to eat them while they were fresh and warm. We did pretty good and finished most of our food but it was definitely a struggle as we neared the end. We really had to take our time, by taking some breaks, which isn't a bad thing. Service was great, the staff was friendly and helpful and the food was good. I wouldn't say it's the best pasta I've ever had but it was solidly good. I would return to give some of the red sauce pastas a try. I think my favorite items were the garlic bread and the meatballs. The ambience was lively, especially when we first arrived around 2:30pm. The place is lovely in a prime location. We came for a light lunch and my favorite dishes were the simple Caesar salad and the beet salad with creamy bursts. So good. The pasta dishes were fine, but it wasn't crave worthy, so we didn't pack it up. The patio is dog friendly which is my favorite thing, but man that patio is hot on a sunny day. Came here for a quick bite and thought it was a nice quick meal! I've been to several Portland locations and always thought that it was alright, but I wanted to check out the Vancouver location to see if it was any different. This waterfront spot has a beautiful view and is located in a great area (albeit a bit far out), and the inside of the store is spacious with much more seating than some of its Portland counterparts. Their menu is relatively the same and service is just as fast. However, I did think that this location tasted a bit better. Maybe I've only had mediocre experiences at the other spots, but I thought these were more flavorful/saucy and unlike the other locations, the pasta was just cooked better. We've been to Grassa a handful of times since they opened on the waterfront and came last night with some friends. It was their first time. We usually don't have a bad experience but last night our food took forever! Our friends (3 total) ordered first and we ordered right behind them. They ordered the carbonara, rigatoni, and fusillia alla vodka pasta and they literally finished their food before we even got ours, that's how long it took. My husband and I ordered the watermelon salad, spaghetti and meatballs and the fusilli alla vodka pasta. My husband went to ask the guy at the register if our food was coming and he said "it's the next ticket up"... We got our watermelon salad 30 mins before our food came out. By the time we got our food, it was close to 9:30pm. The restaurant closes at 10pm. It wasn't crazy busy last night to where our food should have taken that long. read more

Grassa was busy when my party of 3 arrived on a Thursday evening around 6. We walked in and up to the counter where you place your order (the service was ok, nothing to write home about), paid & collected our drinks, and proceeded to seat ourselves. We were told the wait would be "about 30 mins for pasta" which was ok I guess, for a busy night (there was a music event going on at the same time so all the restaurants in the area were packed). The tap list was small, I got a Fort George Pilsner (very good) and another adult got the Guavarita (In told it was very nice). We ordered the Burrata to share -- it was small for the price, and the bread was really toasted so it was hard to cut. Taste was interesting -- cherries, pistachios, lemon jam, whipped ricotta. I'm glad I tried it, I don't think I would order it again though. About 40 mins later, the pasta arrived. The pork belly Mac n cheese was fantastic, highly recommend! The pasta alla chitarra was strange and delicious, lots of flavor! I like that it was a meatless option but also that it was hazelnut pesto! The entree portions were fair as were the prices.
