summer porch fried chicken
Tami S.

reviews on this were mixed, but was close to our hotel so decided to give it a try. friend & i decided to try the fried green 'maters app. they were cut thin - which i prefer - with tasty, not too heavy breading. they were cooked through and yummy. for entrees i ordered the summer porch fried chicken and asked for green beans & creamed corn instead of sides listed. i got white meat, and it was a bit dry, but white is frequently a bit drier. the breading was light, crisp and tasty. green beans were very good, nicely seasoned. creamed corn was good also, tasted like just corn, butter and cream. not too heavy or too sweet. friend had open faced roast beef sammie, with mashed potatoes & green beans. she liked the sandwich, meat was tender, gravy was good - not heavy - didnt taste canned or like it started life as a powder. mashed potatoes had "lumps" which we both prefer - so they werent instant. cornbread was very good as well. although restaurant is in a "mall", it had a nice interior, casual. there was also a bar. service was very good. no complaints.

Blackberry cobbler a la made

Food was good. Service was great. Portion size on pot roast was large. Cornbread with honey butter was yummy. Blackberry cobbler a la mode was yummy.

The dining room - almost closing time...

So the restaurant we planned to eat at turned out to be closed so we wound up at McFarlain's. They weren't very busy so we got right in and seated right away. All the staff were very friendly and efficient. The place was pretty clean and the decor was kind of Midwest meets Deep South.... On to the food. It was all pretty good. I had the McFarlain's Special Sandwich, which was an open faced pot roast sandwich with mashed potatoes and brown gravy. Others had soup and salad and meatloaf. We took a Traffic Jam pie to go, which turned out to be delicious. The four star rating may be just a bit of a stretch, really the rating is probably around 3.5 stars, but they deserved rounding up not down based on the overall experience.

Chicken pot pie was as big as my hand

Honey cornbread was spot on! Food was plenty to share. Ambience is casual. The sweet potato fries were good with their sauce which I think was made up with apples and pineapples. The pot pie warmed my whole body.

Not poached eggs.

I rarely make a negative post and I wouldn't now except for the response from the manager. I ordered eggs Benedict. My eggs were hard boiled. I told the lady the eggs were not poached and her reply was "it's just not poached the way you want it" what a crappy response. in the end, they paid for my meal so I consider us even

Pot roast, mashed potatoes, green beans, and cornbread!! Fabulous!!

This is one of the BEST places in Branson, MO!! If you go you have to try the pot roast, the (sweet) cornbread, AND ask for a "special table." Magnificent!!

Coldest pancakes in Branson

Poor food. Ice cold This is our pancakes 10 min after being served. Slow service. Eggs were done over easy not medium. We left all of our food on the plates. Horrible overall. I will say they comped our non existent meal at least.

Roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and Apple crisp for dessert.

Chicken fried steak is ok. But the rising table is fun. The opc booth and photographer are annoying.

Breakfast on New Year's Eve. Service was fair and omelet's were a tad overlooked. Perhaps our expectations were a little high.

Great for families with kids. We enjoyed the food. They had a Jurassic Park night while we were there, it was a lot of fun. We will be back.

Quick service. Good comfort food. I recommend their ham and bean soup! Waitress seemed busy and frazzled, but it was a Sunday afternoon....

This is such a neat place. It offers fresh farm to table type meals, many ingredients are sourced…read moreright from the college programs. The staff are students working to pay for their tuition. It is a large elegant building with plenty of room for groups, but at times there is a wait. We had the chicken fried chicken and the meatloaf entrees. Both were served with green beans and mashed potatoes. They offer complimentary bread with three types of butter. We really enjoyed the apple butter! And dessert is not to be missed. We had the apple pie, and it was delicious, and more than enough for the two of us. You can peruse the shop before or after your meal to see some of the student made products.

The dining hall is beautifully adorned with cabin-esque motif and overlooks the campus and mountains. The menu has a great variety and notes items that are made by the students (e.g. butters and cakes). Their complimentary, fresh made bread basket with three types of butters was a fantastic start to the meal. We ordered the mushroom soup, the pork belly sandwich w/ fries, and the shrimp and grits. I will say that the pork belly po' boy was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had in my life! I almost stayed in town longer on the second day just to order it again. The pork belly was smoky, tender, and sweet and paired so well with the grain mustard, pickled onions and arugula -- superb balance of flavors. My husband also noted the shrimp and grits was some of the best he's ever had. The shrimp and pork belly in the dish were perfectly cooked and the Cajun spices were well balanced. And we have to tell you to try their fresh desserts. The brown butter chocolate cake was a special ending to the meal. This is an excellent stop and our student server provided excellent service - they're doing a great job there and is a highly recommended of ours during your stop during your visit to Branson.
