Extremely Disappointing Customer Service…read more We stopped at Huxdotter Coffee in North Bend on Friday and ordered a 16 oz PBJ Smoothie, a 16 oz Mango Smoothie, and a ham and cheese croissant through the drive-through. At the window, we received the croissant and the 16 oz PBJ Smoothie, but were handed a 12 oz Mango Smoothie. We immediately pointed out that the drink was the wrong size. Rather than simply acknowledging the mistake and correcting the order, the employee told us that the order had been entered as a 12 oz drink. We reiterated that we had specifically ordered a 16 oz Mango Smoothie. Instead of saying something as simple as, "I'm sorry, we'll remake that for you," we were told that she would have to refund the original charge and then charge us again for the 16 oz drink. Seriously? Apparently, Huxdotter has developed an innovative new approach to customer service: If we make a mistake, the customer gets to fix it. The mistake wasn't ours. We ordered a 16 oz drink, and the employee or the person taking the order entered it incorrectly. Yet instead of taking responsibility for the error and providing the customer service one would reasonably expect, we were essentially given a bureaucratic explanation of why correcting their mistake was going to require additional transactions. We were on our way to an appointment and didn't have time to wait around sorting out an issue that should have taken less than a minute to resolve. We simply said, "Never mind," and left. What is especially disappointing is that this wasn't about the cost of a smoothie. It was about how the situation was handled. Mistakes happen. Good businesses acknowledge them, apologize, and make them right. Telling the customer that they have to go through a refund and repurchase process because the business entered the order incorrectly is simply poor customer service. Unfortunately, this experience left such a bad impression that we won't be going back. There are plenty of coffee shops willing to treat their customers better.

In addition to my drink, I also ordered a spinach topped brioche bun, which tasted great warmed up; the brioche was nice and fluffy. If you're looking for a place to sit down for a bit to get some work done, this would also be a great place to go, with plenty of seating available and free Wi-Fi. For the friendly service alone, I would 100% stop by again for a morning coffee.

Or you can sit there not moving at all for like 12 minutes trying to decide if you should just leave but by the time you finally decide it's taking too long, it's too late...some other poor soul has pulled behind you. I have never seen a location closed so sporadically, although that seems to be a common theme in North Bend. This location gets 2 stars instead of 1 because I'm sure there are staffing hardships. I get takeout about once a month from here as part of our weekly rotation of "I don't feel like cooking tonight." Typically we get a hamburger and a cheeseburger, fries and onion rings. We split the very large portion of fries and the onion rings as well. Last night the guest in front of me ordered the jalapeño burger and I thought "Jalapeño? I didn't know they had that!" It's listed on the menu, but when you go to a place for a long time (for us, since the early 1990s), you kinda stop looking at the menu. So I tried the jalapeño burger, and I very pleased that they didn't just throw raw slices on the burger but instead grilled them a bit. It packed some heat, but without that raw grassy taste that you get from an uncooked pepper. The fries are usually quite quite good, and the onions rings can be a bit too well-done, so we ask for them "not too crispy!" and they're much easier to eat. You can get sauces such as ranch dressing for the onion rings at an extra cost. Other condiments like mustard, mayo, and ketchup are either on the burger itself or come as a free add-on. They have bison chili, and I've always wanted to try it, so I'll get that next time. The place is like one of the old-time burger shacks that you found on the side of the US highway system back in the 1940s, 50s, and 60s, which makes sense, because the main drag through North Bend used to be US 10 (which is replaced by I-90 3 miles to the south). It has a bare bones inside seating area, a front patio that is great in the summer but yikes it's cold in the winter, and their public bathrooms are available only from the outside. Prices tend to be midrange to a bit higher than a chain fast food place, but the food is better IMO and you're supporting a local business.

If you order from this location, CHECK EVERY SINGLE ITEM before leaving. Apparently, fixing their mistakes becomes YOUR responsibility.
