Visited this location at around midnight on a Monday night. I cannot believe I am saying this - but I spent almost an hour in the drive thru line. Why? I was picking up dinner for not only myself, but my coworkers as well. If I wasn't getting food for them, I would have left. I'm not sure why the wait. There was a full drive thru line, but I've been in longer lines for not even a quarter of that time. This is one of those rare instances where I would challenge corporate to visit this location and figure out what is going on. That being said, I know the capability that a McDonald's can offer to its patrons, especially with the PRIME location of Meridian Street in near-north downtown Indy. Run far away from this location. So this McD is horrible. I rolled up to order my normal: quarter pounder, add Mac sauce. When I get home and pull out my order the label says "Triple ADD Mac Sauce". Whatever, I will just pull off the two patties I don't want. I open it up and it's a double whatever. I really wanted a quarter pounder anyways so I pull a patty off and notice there's no Mac sauce. Slow service!!! They kept choosing the other lane of cars THREE TIMES before me, when it was my turn next! You're supposed to alternate, not favor one side over the other. The staff was friendly though. I'm not a fan. I've had bad service before, but that was terrible. I had to wait an extra 20 minutes to order. I'm not happy with my service. They need more employees working. Don't bother going if there's a long line. Luckily my order was small and simple, so it wasn't technically messed up. Somewhere inside this McDonald's is a trophy case filled with 'the worst of' awards. Having lived downtown since 2006 I have had the misfortune of dining here out of emergency. Literally, I only go here if it is the absolute last resort. Today was one of those 'emergencies'. I had no groceries and I was about to pass out. I just needed a snack! Just a few fries shoveled in my mouth and then I could function again. Of course, in true 16th street McD's fashion they failed at the mere task of fries. My fries were a wet soggy mess. Asking for ketchup was like asking the drive-through attendant for a piece of the moon. Of course she shoved 6 packets of ketchup for my small fries, not in the bag, but into my already full hands! I know few people probably read Yelp! reviews about McDonald's, because well it's only a few dollars you lose. But really if you think about it (and especially here at this joint) you PAY WITH YOUR TIME! People will sit in the drive-thru for over 30 minutes! I see the line almost daily and it wraps around the building at odd hours like 3pm. Those people aren't there for lunch... they are there for the simple ice cream or soda fix. Pulling a lever isn't hard is it?!?!?! Also you shouldn't have to read Yelp! reviews about McDonald's because as a franchise aren't they held to high corporate service standards? Don't people call in to corporate and complain about this place? My general thought about a franchise is that you should expect the same quality and service no matter where you visit IN THE WORLD. Why? Why does the world's worst McDonald's have to be in my neighborhood where I live in Indianapolis? My experiences here over the years have never resulted in a positive one. Even if I go inside to avoid the line from hell in the drive-thru the experience is the same. The order is rarely correct. Order orange juice? They will give you water. Give them $10 for a $6 order and they will give you a $1 in change back. I've even had the person taking my order be condescending toward me. About 80% of the time the employees barely look at you. They are multi-tasking their work with socializing. I mean literally turning over their shoulder away from you to yell at someone else about something non-work related! Once a friend picking me up for a 4am airport drop-off made the mistake of going through the drive-thru for hot chocolate. He was in line for 30 minutes. So even the time of day doesn't better the service situation. Us locals avoid it like the plague. I'm positive the length of the line from hell scares business off too. This McDonald's has gone downhill since my initial review. Or maybe I just was luckier before with my experiences. Today I stopped in just for some fries and there was no salt on them. I thought maybe my order was mixed up so I went inside and explained and they said they were out of salt. I ate a Big Mac meal on 11/14/22. Within 30 minutes, I had to call an ambulance due to anaphylactic shock. I'm not sure if the gloves they were wearing are non-latex. Slow and poor service. Though most are polite. Here are some of the examples of service. Drive through 32 ounce drink out of lids they complained I refused the drink. Back when you had to sign the receipts for credit cards typically didn't have a pen for their customers. It took them years to take credit cards. It was only in the last few years they took credit cards. My last visit, the teen behind the counter staring like a deer in the head lights I stood there for over a minute and asked if she was available to take orders and she was but yet wouldn't even greet me. Over the years this is the kind of service I've come to expect. There was one time though where there was a manager who you could tell cared. Wasn't weeks I came back and he was gone. Also, the workers not working typically congregate on a table to the side of the counter or hang out and socialize before they decide to help customers. However, I assume relative to the attitudes they likely don't get paid all that much. Feel sorry for them really. They have one of those faith and blessed signs with a number one can call with service issues. I called and one has to leave a message. Never a return call. Currently sitting in the booth at this McDonalds. My Spicy Deluxe Chicken Sandwich was less than desirable. There was maybe a quarter sized dab of the sauce that even makes it spicy & it wasn't even assembled. Lettuce & tomato were loose in the box. Not only that but their indoor hours are posted on the door but they keep their doors locked to prevent people from coming inside to eat. Omg this is has got to be the worst McDonald's ever. When you combine my weakness for those commercials and the fact that this is the only location in downtown, you get the most resentful McDonald's goer ever. I've gone when there were 10 cars in line and when there were 2 cars. I've gone when there was snow on the ground and when it was bright and humid. I've gone during peak hours and during non-peak/senior-moment early dinner hours. No matter what, you're going to encounter rude personalities, a consistent 20-30 minute wait, and a wrong order 70% of the time. Btw, forget about UberEats...most things are the same; the wait is still long and they STILL get your order wrong.
