Wow, such a busy morning rush filled with majority tourists with some locals getting their breakfast or coffee in the morning. In my opinion, everyone should experience working in food and/or retail in their lifetime especially during high school and college time to know how to deal with customer service and busy mad rushes of people coming all at once. It makes you more understanding and compassionate when you are a customer yourselves in ordering food or trying on clothes in retail settings. People that have worked in the sevice and hospitality industries know the verbal, physical and mental abuse they take on from their employers and customers. That's why it's so hard to hire at these jobs in justifying the pay, bad management for little to no rewards and benefits for the employees. That's why I try to stick to the menu and not make their lives more complicated then it should be as a customer; at most, just a light ice request and less sweeter for my iced coffee orders. I always say my please and thank yous to anyone in the food, retail and service industries. No masks required to enter and COVID restrictions are relaxed but the staff still wears their masks in the restaurant. You can use two self serve kiosks or just wait in line to get your order. The kiosks at McDonald's usually doesn't work for me, so I just wait in line. It took a good 10 to 15 minutes for my food and drink but I came during the breakfast rush with about 20 people ahead of me, so it was expected. I haven't had the local breakfast platter in a while, they give it to you in a biodegradable container. I like that the eggs are made with butter and fluffy to eat and large portions of rice and a couple pieces of spam. I used to not be able to finish the platter in high school but now I can finish it in one sitting over a course of a hour. They accept cash and card payments at their registers with a person and card at their kiosk stations, if you have the McDonald's app downloaded on your phone for easier convenience. They gave me the large French vanilla ice coffee in a drink cup, which I appreciate because it's a larger portion than the regular clear coffee cup. Mix the drink with the straw so the sugar mixture doesn't stay on the bottom. It came out to a little over 11 dollars for breakfast, which is affordable compared to the 15 to 20 dollars per entree at other nearby locations. I would totally recommend coming here for your breakfast although the sitting area can get quite cold but it's nice to relax, eat and watch the tourists on their vacations. The McDonald's in Hawaii are a level of magic. First, they have Pam portugeee sausage and egg breakfasts served with rice all day long. Second they still have the $1.00 diet cokes. Last if your over 40 you might remember the magic fried apple pies they served with the crispy outside and the gooey inside.. Hawaii never replaced them with the baked dry crap they serve in the 48. Only leaving a review bc I always thought it was cool that Hawaii has a spam, Portuguese sausage, egg, and rice plate. So of course it was on my list for something to try while on vacation. It's a good bfast plate and I wish we had it in CA. The only change I'd prefer which I know they can't offer is an over easy egg for a little runny yolk to mix with the rice but that'll have to be my twist when I decide to make it at home. I can't believe I'm about to say this, but I actually get excited to eat McDonald's when I'm in Hawaii, and primarily their breakfast. The fact that you can order eggs, spam, sausage and rice, that actually tastes good from a McDonald's is quite amazing! Every time we go in the mornings, there is always a wait but totally worth it. We usually get the Local Deluxe Breakfast and this is usually enough for 2 people to share comfortably. The eggs and rice is fluffy, spam and sausage is super flavorful, I don't think you can ask for much more. Usually once a trip is enough for me, but I highly recommend if you haven't gotten these items before! read more

My son likes McDonald's a lot and luckily for us, we found this place a few steps away from the hotel where we're staying. Unfortunately I had this bad experience today with the cashier who took my order. She was the queen of rudeness! If you have a bad day, don't bring it to work! And treat your paying customers nicely, if not politely. Most of the people I encounter in Honolulu were very respectful and friendly. It's amazing how a person can actually transfer negative energy that quickly! read more

Continuing our quest for haupia pie, we decided to check out the McDonald's Waikiki location since we were walking around the area. And would you know it, they had haupia pies! Yayyy! Our cashier, Said, was helpful enough to check the availability before telling us no. It seems like it's by request only because we had to wait 6 minutes for them to heat it up; and boy was it hot! I'm happy we found a McDonald's that was serving it because it was totally worth every bite. Tried to place my order before I got there and when I did they said the payment didn't go through when I saw it did. I got a confirmation and they said they didn't. So I was like ok is my order ready and they was like know even though they knew about my order. So you knew about it and it wasn't ready. I kept going. Best part of Hawaiian McDonald's is the local plate! Scoop of rice, scrambled eggs, Portuguese sausage & spam for $7! Delicious and quick breakfast! We also tried the fresh hot haupia pie! The auto kiosks are awesome and there was no wait. Our kids loved being able to order their own food! Regional food options are a great addition to the menu as well! I ordered the Local Deluxe breakfast platter. This came with white rice, eggs, Portuguese sausage, and SPAM. I also ordered a Haupia pie. This was my first time ever trying Portuguese sausage and I was surprised by how good it was. My favorite between the two was still the spam. I would have preferred the spam be a little more well done. The white rice was very tender and very good. The eggs were also tasty. The best part of the meal was definitely the Haupia pie though. They fry this thing to perfection and the center is so creamy and sweet. It's the perfect ratio. The service was fast and friendly. The location was very clean as well. read more

We ordered three meals and a chocolate chip cookie tote I think it comes with 12 chocolate chip cookies. Everything was nice & hot plus fresh which was nice since the reviews had me a little nervous. If you have 45 minutes or an hour to waste in Waikiki this McDonalds is for you. At 6 am in the downtown area of Waikiki this is the only breakfast open. The service is slower than any native turtles you may see, most of the time only one of the three mobile order screens will be open and if lucky enough, the debit/credit card reader may work. On occasion you may be lucky enough to get one of the workers to help you, but I think you have a better chance of hitting the lotto. A hostess donut option is the only other available food to eat at a market down the road, but will cause less grief and irritation. read more

Kinda sad they didn't offer the Taro Pie. I did get a chance to try the Fried Apple Pie during my visit. I went on 4/12-4/18/2022. Had McDonald breakfast twice during my week. Had to order their deluxe breakfast that came with rice, spam, Portuguese sausage and eggs. Then I had the ham, cheese and egg McMuffins. Except my friend suggest to add spam in it, sooo good! Try the local deluxe platter if you're in town and combo it with the McDonald's app for a free ice coffee drink. Rice portions are generous and we used it for our extra leftover poke we had from foodland. Also get the taro pie which is one dollar. You won't be disappointed. This is a cost effective, convenient alternative to the long and expensive local restaurants around Waikiki. read more

If I could leave zero stars I would! Talking about incompetence. I specifically went for the Taro Pie. WTH! This isn't Taro. Since when does Taro look like & taste like Apple! I couldn't eat it in store due to closed seating because of covid. Walked all the way back to hotel to be very disappointed. This is 1 of 3 McDonald's locations in Waikiki. This one is probably the most smelliest and dirtiest. If you're walking in on the side of the building with the ramp, you will likely get a good whiff of urine. I like how they have a kiosks where you can order/pay for food without having to interact with another human. I was bummed because every time I kept stopping in randomly for a haupia or taro pie, they were out. On a budget and can't afford to stay at the Ritz Carlton hotel--McDonald's baby! Always get a large fries, it's not even a question. read more

Sometimes it hits the spot, other times it's somehow awful! All that aside I really like this McDonald's on Kuhio in Waikiki. I like the staff and what's more I respect the crazy things they put up with. McDonald's draws all kinds of people but in Waikiki they really handle some crazy characters! I couldn't do it! When I've been there lately it's been good food. Hot, fresh and definitely affordable. Well packed! Just double check if you like condiments! I've gotten some or none! No dining in! Still Covid safe rules. They require masks and do the Covid procedures. One door in, one out to keep distancing but it's definitely frustrating. Especially when it's busy and they have mobile orders! Some staff are better at enforcing the rules than others, but it's like that anywhere. Yes I love breakfast (if I make it before 1030 am lol) or a midday snack (hello chicken sandwich). I've been to McDonald's in many states and around the world, and this one consistently has the worst service I have ever experienced.
