I only saw three employees out of seven wearing masks even when the sign on the door says, "let's all cover up." Not cool.

I shop McCoy's a few times a month. Great selection! Cleanest stores in town! Great service as well! Needed aged barn wood for a customers project. After breaking my body rock climbing, I decided to take up a hobby that was less likely to kill me...so welding it is! Now that I can bend metal to my will, I figured it was time to take my home improvement game to-tha-next-level. Forget Home Depot and Lowes down the street, McCoy's is home improvement for men with beards of steel wool. I can't grow facial hair, but they let me in anyway. They manage to stack a surprising amount of useful stuff in a relatively small footprint, though the isles are suspiciously narrow considering the bulk\heft of the items they sell. I went to McCoy's this day because they were the only vendor that sells a very specific type of concrete I needed. Lo and behold, they actually stock at least 10 varieties of concrete mix. They also have aluminum tubs for a reasonable price. Yes, I spent about 15 minutes pondering how to get an aluminum tub in the back of a Chevy Prizm. (protip: It ain't fucking happening) I have to deduct a point because one of the employees sent me to the bulk yard to get concrete, when it was actually about 15 paces from where we were standing. In his defense, the cashier looked absolutely astonished that they had concrete mix in the store, so apparently the concrete mix location is a closely guarded secret. read more

We just received above and beyond customer service this week from the Hwy 71 McCoy's at Bee Caves. We had custom ordered five 8" cedar posts from them to replace 30 yr. old posts on our front porch. Three of the five posts that came in from the vendor did not meet our expectations. Our carpenter had already began working on our porch so there wasn't time for a reorder. Two of the store managers worked hard to find the only store that had 8" cedar posts in stock. Nick, the manager drove to the McCoy's in San Marcos after work to hand pick three cedar posts that were in good condition. Matt, the Assistant manager delivered them to our home today at no addition charge. Wow, we really are impressed with McCoy's great customer service! Unfortunately one bad experience ruined it. I am a repeat customer of McCoys as the owner of The Austin Lawn Service. I go to McCoys if it is closer to me or the job site. The Bee Cave McCoys has always treated me well until this unfortunate experience. For one decking project, I came up with dimensions and measurements, materials etc. I met with this nice friendly McCoys employee by the name of Donna. She was able to help me calculate cost and came up with the number of lumber needed. She was fast and able. Then when I went to my customers for review and made minor changes. Now, this customer is in South Austin (near the Manchaca McCoys). But I chose to drive a good 40 minutes to Bee Cave McCoys because of Donna and I wanted a smooth customer experience. Unfortunately Donna was off that day (Saturday, Feb 14) and this guy with grayish/white hair offered me help. I wrote him a list of what I needed, minor changes meaning adjust the material list. He looked up at me and said "I have no time for this" as if he refused to be helpful and courteous. I copied his words and asked him, "You do not have time for this?" He said yes and then started blabbering. I told him, OK. I'm going somewhere else. When I walked away, I heard him shouting at me. I have NO time for this. I had to go to Home Depot to get what I needed. Unfortunately it took up all of my morning all because of "I have no time for this" comment. I was displeased by his lack of professionalism that McCoys has always been known for. read more

Excellent service from genuinely friendly people, starting with the ladies at the front of the store, greeting you with a real smile - something too often missing from other home improvement store associates. / My special order cedar boards came in slightly warped; I sent them back and manager Matt made no fuss about reordering new ones - and when they arrived, Matt took the time to make a special same-day delivery, when the earliest available delivery had been quoted to me as two days out. I continue to shop at this McCoy's in Bee Caves. Reading the other reviews and I can empathize since I've also, sometimes, not received flawless customer service, but I can't kill an entire store's rating because of a couple experiences. The best: I've always been treated with courteousness and respect by their cashiers and the guys back in millworks. I'm a veteran and Home Depot and Lowe's demand to see my ID each time I visit and their cashiers usually have a look of disdain like I'm such a hassle for them. I am on file at McCoy's and they always treat me with respect and gladly provide me with a veteran's discount each time I visit. Finally, when I ask to speak with someone knowledgeable, the cashiers up front have always walked me in to the store to personally introduce me to whomever they believe can best help me. The worst: The millworks guys are friendly enough and have a cheerful disposition but they can sure be disorganized. When it comes to ordering doors, I've tried to work with them a couple times and each time they've written my measurements in notebooks that look like something I'd find in a teenager's HS backpack. Then I will never be called with a price quote. No follow up. On those couple of occasions, they lost my phone number or couldn't remember who I was. If I were management I would clean this part of the business up so that a customer's name and number plus the job they're looking for a quote on will be entered in to their computer system with a promised due date. Then when they show for work a reminder will pop up for them as they log in for the day so that they can properly follow up with their customer. Meh, my opinion at least but it's what cost McCoy's that 5th coveted star on the rating. All in all, out of the bunch of them, McCoy's may not be perfect and one bad experience shouldn't mean that you need to suffer the inconveniences of working with people at HD or Lowe's who's experiences with electrical and such are limited to a one hour training session. Those guys at the other stores I'm sure mean well and who knows what their management have told them to do regarding Veteran's discounts but overall I'll stick with McCoy's. They can still improve, but they're still the better choice. read more

Terrible all around! Online order got lost and forgotten about. Called a week later, nothing had been done. Said she would get it together and amended the order per my instructions and call me when it was ready. 2 weeks later, called them back...no order ready or even on the radar. Guy assures me he would take care of it for pick-up next morning. Order cannot be found for 20 min, quantity and items were wrong. I like to support a smaller, local business when possible, but with this type of experience, why would I not just go to HD?? read more

First, I would like to point out that I work here, though I am not biased by any means. In fact, I am tougher on my own store and coworkers/supervisors than any other. We are one of the smaller stores, with a small yard, and teeny parking lot. Yet, we do the same amount of business as, or more than, one of our stores twice our size. Our own employee cars take up a third of the parking lot! That being said, it is rare for someone to walk into our store and wander around without being asked by at least 3 people if they need any help. Though a majority of our business is commercial, we also cater to DIYs. If we don't have what you are looking for, we will either get it, or find out who does have it. Even if it means we lose a sale and send you to a competitor. Why give my own store 4 stars? Because there is always room for improvement and no one is perfect. Also, there isn't anything in between 4 and 5 for me to choose. A great place to work and a great store for your building and repair needs! We will also soon have a small selection of RV necessities!! Stop in for a visit with Dely (our oldest employee in the whole company - 91!) and enjoy some free coffee or popcorn! read more
