I went to ACE HARDWARE/Breed and Company (290 and close to Nutty Brown Rd). I was meeting up with a girlfriend. They have the MOST gorgeous Easter display of any store, along with a sweet selection of merchandise! I enjoy just walking around this store and seeing what unique items they have for your home. Sure wish the people were friendlier and cared more about helping the customer. Oh well that's kind of the way the world is these days! I bought a good amount of merchandise but something i took home did not work and had to return it. This return didn't work in my favor, turns out the customer is not as important as that extra dollar even if you are the one inconvenienced. I love Breed and Company and so grateful one is located close to my home. I come here regularly and purchase gifts and hardware supplies for my home. Right now they are decorated for Christmas and the store looks amazing. There are some great decorating ideas here and the products are high quality. I have noticed some things go really fast, so if you see something you like ... grab it. One half of the store are hardware items where carry items not found at the big box stores like the Big Green Egg. The other half is home essentials and changed out for all the seasons. The back has a small gardening area. The whole store was very clean and organized. The staff is super friendly and helpful. If you sign up for Ace Rewards then some nice perks. read more

On the plus side they have about any bolt, screw you need. On the negative side the staff are rude and not knowledgeable. If you are a craftsperson you can typically find what you need on your own. Forget calling in to see if they have something, they are seldom able to help. read more

I wanted to root for a local franchise... However, I'm not sure I'll make major purchases at this store in the future. The service issues I've had thus far were pretty annoying. 1) I bought an Ego walk behind mower a few months ago. I misplaced the receipt, which I wanted to scan to upload as part of the Ego online registration process. I could see the mower listed in my purchase history on the Ace website, so I went into Breed and asked about getting a receipt printed up (and then showed my ID and my purchase history). I also had the credit card used and knew the date of the purchase. The cashier just said "I don't know how to do that." That was the entire conversation. I was in again a week or two later, and thought I'd give it another try. I tried another employee this time, and she tried for maybe 20-30 minutes while my family browsed the store...but could never find it in their system. She took my contact information and said the manager would be able to look it up and would call me. Never received any call... 2) We're most of the way through a backyard redo, and I thought it was a good time to replace my 20 year old Weber gas grill with a new model. Lucky for me, there was a promo going on at where grills over $500 were free assembly and delivery. This was great, as I don't have a truck to move the grill, and I remember how much of a pain it was to assemble the old grill. I ordered it (a Weber S-435) online, picking the following week's Friday for the delivery. The remainder of the week went by, and much of the next week...no confirmation call of any kind related to delivery. I eventually got a call the day before the delivery, asking if they minded if I brought it a day early / that day instead...so I said sure, great. The grill showed up, they unloaded it from a pickup truck, and they were off. Later the day, I was showing the grill to my wife, and noticed some dents and scrapes on one side of the grill: it was clearly from it having rubbed and banged against the sides of the truck bed. I emailed the store at their listed email address to see if it was possible to source a replacement for the damaged panel. No response. I tried another address for the store a week or two later. No response there either. I actually went to put in the gas tank last week, firing it up for the first time, but I have yet to make it happen: they left on all of the protective adhesive stickers all over the grill (that say 'remove before assembly'!)...and the stickers a) are super hard to remove/disintegrate as I try to peel them off (maybe fused harder in this crazy heat?) and b) it is hard to reach the edge of some part so of the sticker, because they assembled the grill with the stickers still on (so like the stickers on the front lower doors, the doors are mounted in place, you have to swing them open to try to get to the parts of the sticker where the door hinges). I have to get it all off, as I assume any plastic sticker left on the grill is going to end up melting the first time I use the grill. I think I'm going to find out how well Goo-Be-Gone works! I wanted to root for the local team, but I would have been much better off ordering the same thing for the same price from Lowe's. read more

I love this place! I have always been a ACE fan, and as Breed sells for ACE, I was in hog heaven. We have a first generation Big Green Egg and one of the very early ones of the first generation. We have carefully maintained it by never using self lighting or regular square charcoal, but only high quality lump and wood and NEVER liquid fire started. I have actually been offered jobs in other stores that sold them due to my enthusiasm. Reason I say no? They are heavy! I didn't want to drag one out to a car. Originally established in Georgia, they actually have a NASA influence. When we renovated our house over a 3 month period, that was the only thing on which we could cook. They Lady became so good working with it she could cook a spinach souffle on the Egg. So in we go and I am overwhelmed! They not only had everything for all generations, but a massive selection of styles. So grabbing a new cover, and some Green Egg Charcoal, I started pushing the cart to the counter. The Lady? Disappeared. Thus I ended up going up and down each aisle and finding all kinds of items I could not live without, so with a sigh, replaced it on the shelf as this has been a month of unexpected expenses. I zapped right away on some items for Christmas, and will be back for presents. I may even give something to someone as a present. An hour later I found the Lady and was dragged out of the store. What a fun time shopping. This is unusual for me as I normally detest shopping! read more

Fancy Ace Hardware. My biggest takeaway is don't trust the website for what they say they have in stock today to pick up ASAP. I recommend calling ahead if you're in a pinch. The two main items that I needed were not in stock after all. They had alternative items, so I can make it work. Also, there weren't that many people shopping, but it seemed pretty difficult to catch anyone's attention for help. Overall, it is a decent store though. read more

I live in CA, but my daughter who lives in Austin asked for advice about how to find a matching fastener to one she already had. I told her to skip the big box store and go straight to Ace. I have always found the Ace Hardware people near me to be above and beyond helpful and knowledgeable. Sure enough, she brought her fastener, along with 3 kids to this Ace Hardware, and found a typical Ace Hardware helper who found an almost matching fastener for her. But it was too long. He told her to come back the next day and he would cut it and file it for her overnight so that it was just the right size. Find me a big box store who will employ someone like that. I wish I knew the man's name, but thank you for taking care of my daughter and grandkids like they were your own. read more

This place is great. They may not have as large of a selection that Home Depot on Mueller might but they have most of what you would need and unlike Home Depot you can find someone to help you. When it comes to actual hardware they have a far better selection than most of the big box stores and my favorite part is if you only need one screw or nut you can buy a single piece and not a bag of them. read more

Since a good portion of the universe just watched the royal wedding; imagine if you will your're the Duke and Duchess of Driftwood, Texas and needed somewhere to register at. Well, that would be Breed and Company complete with fancy crystal, plates with stately pheasants, and you know toilet plungers and bug spray. Only shopped at the Austin outlets a few times and never purchased anything. I did a favor once for a old girlfriends boss along time ago and was rewarded with a Christmas gift purchased from Breed and Co. I had just purchased my first motorcycle and she decided I needed a leather jacket wearing Santa for my tree for $89. Tag was still on it; wished the receipt would have been there as well so I could have gotten store credit lol. Two visits to the new Belterra location were mostly for exploration. You'll find the usual high end brands like The Big Green Egg, Yeti, along with body products, bridal registry, cutlery, and some typical hardware items. Staff has been quite friendly and eager to help. Can't say I'll do alot of shopping here but it's interesting to see what some folks will buy aside from the fact that B&C is a overly fancy Ace Hardware. Called at 2:26 pm and asked if they offered key cutting services. I was told they do. I asked if they cut car keys with chips. I didn't need programming, just cut. Ken said: "We do, and the guy who does that is working this afternoon so come on down." I asked what the cost was since it's not close to me, and he said he didn't know, but that the other guy was cutting a key, and he could take my name and number and he'd call me right back. Half an hour later called back and Ken answered and said: "Can you please hold?" But he'd already put me on hold before I could respond. When he came back I said I was waiting to hear from the key guy and Ken said: "Oh now he's programming someone's key. These are services you need appointments in advance for." But he'd told me priorly to just "come on in". After putting me on hold for 20 minutes David came to the phone and said it costs $25 to cut a key. I said I didn't need the key, or need it programmed, just cut. He said it was $25. So I asked what it cost to have it cut and programmed and he said $20-25. So I asked why it would cost on the high end of the range to JUST cut it. He then said: "I have a sheet in front of me and it says I have to charge $25 to cut a key." I asked if it would cost $25 to cut a house key and he said: "If you buy the key it's included. But if you bring me a blank, it's $25. Actually, this is how I should have said it: If you bring in a key we can't cut it." I said that was in direct opposition to what he'd told me at the start of the call. And he said: "Yup. I changed my mind." I said: "Okay, so it's not a policy to not cut keys brought into you, you just don't want to do it." And he said: "Yup. I changed my mind. I don't want to do it. That's my choice." So it's now 3:26. It took one hour to find out David can only charge exactly what's on the sheet even if you don't need programming, but also has the ability to do whatever he wants after jerking you around for an hour and say: I don't wanna. What kind of business is this? Absolute garbage. Also, if there was a sheet right there with the prices, why couldn't Ken read that instead of wasting an hour of my time? read more

Disappointed. Bought the ACE brand bleach. Turned out that the safety seal was compromised; so driving around a corner, the bleach leaked onto my vehicle's interior carpet. This is not the reason for the two star review, though. I showed management these pictures . . . After examining the remaining bottles on the shelf, WE learned that ALL the bottles had seals that were compromised! I shared my business card and respectively asked that they do the right thing but never heard back; not going to beg. This is why I am here, posting my experience. Management also wanted to leave those bottles on the shelf, so they could make a few more dollars; and this could happen to YOU. Or perhaps, your toddler could get into this ACE product, and because of faulty seals, he or she dies from poisoning. Kind of scary when you think about it. read more

As a grown man, it's difficult for me to publicly admit that I'm enchanted by a store, but I was straight up enchanted by Breed & Co. With the "ace hardware" logo snuck in just underneath the marquee, I wasn't sure what to expect. Was this a pet store? A hardware store? Answer: Both, and so much more. Even having visited, it's difficult to explain the grandeur, the exuberance, the sheer majesty of such a place. It's much easier if I just list the things you can potentially purchase here: A small pop-up canvas house for your pet A plumbing flairing tool Refrigerated macaroons A replacement axe handle A photo book consisting solely of dogs eating peanut butter A 50 yard spool of copper electrical wire A rainbow variety of colored place mats A $250 professional paint sprayer You see where I'm going with this. I'll admit, I was half expecting there to be a pen full of baby chicks for sale out back, and I was slightly disappointed when there wasn't, but Breed and Co earned an extra star when, bringing my $10 bubble level to the counter, the elderly cashier asked "Are you straight?" In response, I pointed to my wife. Pretty sure she meant "level", but I died laughing anyway. Never change Breed & Co, never change. read more

Current manager - arrogantly wrong. At first ring up of purchases, the total was 75% over what it should have been. So the friendly cashier immediately asked for help from Adam, the manager who, item by item, rung me up again following the old receipt. While time consuming, I figured he couldn't figure out a faster way to do it and patiently waited. Still, at the final total, I was startled and suggested the total was still off. Adam said he was sure it was 100% correct, that maybe I hadn't considered taxes. I said that couldn't be correct, but he walked off saying I was wrong and strode to his office. So I reviewed the receipt at the cashier's station and found out where I was overcharged by about 7.5% and the first cashier agreed and corrected it. I understand people make errors. It happens, particularly when so few excel in math. But for the manager to arrogantly walk off without exploring a possible issue having to do with overcharging - that's not cool at all. This particular store suffers from the same affliction that killed the Ace in Dripping Springs, Oak Hill & Stassney stores. It calls itself a hardware store but is in fact a home decor gift shop. It lacks the charm & stock of the 29th st. Austin store while meeting minimum Ace related stock. 2/3 of floor space is decor. Owners should look @ the Ace in Wimberley for a model that meets all needs & expectations. DYI seekers of hardware should go to McCoys or Home Depot instead. P.S. Staff couldn't care less about their future or your needs. They're big on masks. read more

For those that are uninformed as it comes to Breed & co., it's like a boutique of fun home decor, candles, and other Knick-knacks. Although these items can usually be found online for much less, you have the convenience of being able to grab it there and be on your merry way. The store also includes an Ace Hardware which is nice, useful, and fully stocked from plumbing to electrical, paint, power tools, and the like . However, the Ace tends to be on the more expensive side for similar items found at a Home Depot or Lowe's. The staff are friendly and helpful. read more

My first and now last experience with this store was outrageously bad. I placed an online order and was offered the option of having the order delivered to my home for free as an Ace member, provided my order was more than $50. As shown in attached photo, it was. I received email confirmation. A few days later, I received a voicemail telling me that they don't do home delivery except for bbq grills. I called Ace corporate customer service to ask why I was given the option and why after confirmation, it was not honored. They said they would look into it. I received a phone call back from Ace customer service telling me that they spoke to the store owner, Melanie, who told Ace customer service that they do offer free delivery but only within 7 miles of the store. To deliver to my house, it would cost $15.00. A quick map search shows my address to be 4.7 miles from the store. Ace customer service offered to me that if I would pay the $15.00, they would give me a gift card to the store for $10.00. I declined that offer for several reasons, the primary reason being that they originally offered free delivery, they confirmed, free delivery and then they flat out refused to honor that offer. The second reason is that offering me $10 on a $15 charge still leaves me in the hole AND, I have exactly ZERO inclination to ever shop at Breed again. Seriously, they've lost a potential customer and a whole lot of good will all over digging in their heels to not honor their own website and app offer. It would have been so much easier and saved me the time of writing this review had they simply honored the offer. Horrible customer service and a stupid business model. Consider that there is a Lowe's, Home Depot, McCoy's and Tractor Supply all within 10 miles of Breed, I see no reason for me or you to shop at a store whose owner lies and does not honor their word. The story goes on, but I've run out of patience and energy to go into further detail. Suffice to say that 2 weeks later, I have not received my order and repeated attempts to resolve this have not even resulted in a call from anyone at Breed or Ace. Frankly, on the principle of it, I'm inclined to seek out legal counsel, but for crying out loud, this whole thing is ridiculous. I have instead, notified Ace corporate that I want a refund and that I would be sure that all my friends and neighbors know that they should avoid this store at all costs. If I don't hear back from someone within the next few days, my next move is to file a dispute with my credit card company. With small business facing an uncertain future in the current economy, one would think that they would, at the very least, honor their commitment and deliver for free to a location that is 4.7 miles away. I won't be surprised if this little store doesn't make it. Buyer beware. read more

If you want to deal with grumpy old men employees that would rather berate you about a return then try to solve the problem by looking back in the computer system to see that you really did make the purchase. It took the manager to come over and solve the problem because I had forgotten my receipt. The grumpy old man was condescending and disrespectful. First time in this store not knowing it was close to closing. My partner and I just wanted to ask and check if they sold Yeti's. They do. However, upon walking in we were greeted with a hello by one very friendly women and quickly followed by the older gentleman saying sternly they were closed. We are both brown; Hispanic and black. I'd like to chalk up our experience to closing time, however the manner in which we were approached was uncalled for after asking "should we leave now at this very moment if we only came requesting information?". We just moved to the area and still learning our way. We will gladly find somewhere else to spend our money. Instead of asking if we needed help finding anything we were approached by an employee and we were told "excuse me but we are closing". Seems like they would be willing to let us stay a few more minutes in case we were buying something. I was going to make a purchase but immediately returned the item to the shelf.
