The indoor shades worked great. A little while later, I called Budget Blinds to see if they could install a shade that could lessen the direct sunlight that blasted our living room. Michael installed an outdoor shade spanning the 18' of our back patio. At first, things went fine. Problem solved. But within a few of months of daily use it became apparent that the outdoor shade wasn't quite working out. At this point, a lot of companies would have jury-rigged sone half-hearted, good 'nut solution, blamed the manufacturer and walked-away. Not Michael! He kept at it, going back-and-forth with the shade manufacturer working the issues until the manufacturer eventually shipped a new, more robust shade. This whole experience actually improved the shade's design. Since the new and improved outdoor shade was installed, it has worked like a dream. After finalizing our order, the turn-around time was impressively quick (~6ish weeks, + I believe they were ready sooner, but we were unavailable). In comparison to our prior experience with other companies, this was lightning fast for custom window treatments. This is a review for when I had worked there. Specifically on the marketing team…read more I worked at Sweetwater and wanted to share my experience for anyone considering a position there, especially in marketing. In my experience, favoritism played a major role in the workplace. I consistently performed at the top of the call room for months and tracked my own numbers, so I'm confident in the effort and results I brought to the job. I expressed to Gina, the Marketing Manager, that I was interested in growing with the company and eventually moving up. Instead, my hours were later reduced significantly. What bothered me most wasn't even the reduction in hours, it was how it was handled. There was no private meeting or professional conversation. Gina informed me while I was walking past her office getting water, with other people around. It felt disrespectful and dismissive. After my hours were cut, I texted Gina not once but twice explaining that I couldn't survive on the hours I was being given and asking to discuss the situation. Both messages were read, but I never received a response. Even when I continued coming to work every day afterward, the issue was never addressed. The lack of communication was frustrating and unprofessional. The overall culture of the call room was another disappointment. It often felt more like a high school environment than a professional workplace. Gossiping, and conversations that I felt were inappropriate for a work setting. Management often seemed more comfortable participating in those dynamics than correcting them. For a long time, I genuinely believed Gina respected my work ethic and contributions because of the results I was producing. Looking back, I don't feel that effort was valued. During my time there, I saw little evidence of meaningful opportunities for advancement, and raises did not appear to be a priority. In fact I was told she doesn't give them. I also had negative experiences with Jason, the Operations Manager. I often felt that he spoke to me with unnecessary sarcasm and disrespect. Rather than offering constructive feedback, many interactions came across as snarky and dismissive. It created an environment where employees felt talked down to rather than supported. I moved to Austin and took this job as a stepping stone while getting established in a new city. I wasn't expecting perfection. What I did expect was professionalism, communication, and recognition for hard work. Unfortunately, that wasn't my experience. This review reflects my personal experience working at Sweetwater. Based on that experience, I would not recommend the company to anyone looking for a professional workplace with strong leadership, clear communication, and opportunities for growth. Luckily I'm working remote now and can create my own hours. But I felt this review had to be posted, so hopefully those applying see it and have a real understanding of how it actually is there.
