I first began visiting the Wimberley Ace Hardware in the late 1980's. When you first stepped in the door, it had that wonderful aroma of and old fashioned hardware store. We moved here in '93, and I've been into Ace at least once or twice a month, likely quite a bit more, since then. Sadly, the original store burned, but it was rebuilt even better. The owners are locals who understand and practice the idea of service to their community. The store is always very well stocked and tidy, and it's very easy to locate whatever it is you stopped in for. Their staff is extremely knowledgeable, courteous, and eager to help with whatever you may need. If you don't quite know what you need, someone on staff is always happy to help explain the best way to complete your project, usually faster, better, and cheaper than you first thought. You won't get that at the big box store. In 30+ years of doing business with them, I have yet to have a bad experience. These days, that's really saying something. read more

Ordered a Milwaukee tool online. Website said it would be available in as little as 15 minutes. said to wait for confirming email. 2 days later, no email. Went to store, order was in computer, but my order not ready. Multiple units of same tool in stock. Cashiers stood around dumbfounded as to what to do. Also wanted a trio of canvas tool pouches that were advertised for $18. They would not honor their price. Ended up taking my business elsewhere. It was only $250 but, still. "Ace used to be the place"! Not so much anymore. same lazy, clueless employees every other store has. This Ace has been getting consistently worse over the years imo. I'm a local but don't think I'll be back. Easier to go into San Marcos to shop. Traffic is horrible. Only thing to find in Wimberley are overpriced boutiques and "antique"'shops dabbled with $30 craft burger joints! read more

Excellent service with a smile! Very friendly and helpful and it seems to be done the old-fashioned way as you can expect from an Ace Hardware. It seems like every time I'm standing around looking confused for even more than 20 seconds someone as quickly there to ask me how they can help me find something. What a fun store! They had everything we needed and many more things we wanted. They have basic household items plus jewelry, clothing, bags, home decor, personal items, candy, etc. The employees were super friendly. They gave us a discount and asked for donations to three local youth sports association. It's all good. read more

The Rooster family thoroughly enjoyed the holidays. Good food, visiting with family, and the gifts. Presents as the little called them. Focus on the boy's third Christmas ever. There are still presents at Grandma's house so if you have the keys to a U-haul I'd be grateful. I asked Santa for an outdoor storage container that would hold my tools. Said gift needed to be sturdy and accommodating for my air compressor, shop vac, and my minimal amount of man stuff. I ended up with a box that nobody had enough wrapping paper to cover with a startling discovery that the cabinet wasn't waterproof. Rubbermaid? We ended up back at the ACE in Wimberley with huge box and the receipt. Two minutes of confusion then some help from a friendly employee named Brittany. The refund was done. This store mixes a regular hardware store with specialty items and seems to please locals as well as the tourist crowd. They even have small baskets designed for kids so little Rooster can shop like a big boy. Was in the area looking for a particular bunny feed and figured I'd stop in here just to see what they had. I didn't find bunny feed but what I did find were a bunny figurines by Schleich. Up until this day, I only had one but here, they had several different ones available and if you know me, you know I love my bunnehs! The employees were a little standoffish - keeping to themselves and the locals for the most part but once I checked out, the one cashier chatted for a minute about my purchase. read more

We drive from San Marcos every other weekend to shop this place and it is worth the drive. Staff is extremely friendly and so is Billy, the shift manager. But Billy has messed up our paint request on two different occasions and we had to travel all the way back to correct his mistakes. Billy has great people skills but should shy away from the paint counter and should let someone with experience handle this area. We will continue to shop this place but run from Billy...after we say hi, of course. read more

This should be your go to Hardware store. While it appears to be national, it is definitely a local franchise owned by people who care about the community. Unlike a big box store, there are people here who actually want to help you find what you are looking for. When you look at them, they don't try to flee! (You know that look, you see an employee, they see you so they immediately turn down the next aisle in an attempt to out maneuver you). I rarely need something that I can't find here. They have everything you need for your home and even a nice repair facility in the back that can help you with most everything you need. read more

I am a regular customer at Ace Hardware since I run a local business that involves much staining of outdoor furniture. I was set up with a business account which provided a discount on the stains I buy. Always get good service in the paint department including custom color mixing on Cabots stains and Valspar paint. When it is busy they will call for extra help at the check out. Always seems to be someone willing to assist. One pitfall is the pricing. Their prices are high, especially on tools, where it is worth driving to Lowes if you make larger purchases. They also only carry lumber in shorter lengths. You won't find anything over 8 FT in length. read more

Ace is our local Big Green Egg dealer. I dropped in to take a look at the grill and was amazed... by their customer service! They were actually cooking on the grill doing a send-off for the football team. The cook showed me the grill in action and then walked me through all the stuff in the store. He was very knowledgeable and almost more excited than I was. From the minute I walked into the store until three of us loaded my new grill into the truck, the people of Ace were fantastic. They have a lot of good stuff here; nails, keys, detergent and the like. If you live in Wimberley and don't want to drive to San Marcos to Home Depot you can often find what you need. The store is clean, well organized and adequately managed. Older men are always on hand to assist so long as your question isn't too stupid.Those of us who live here shop the place out of necessity. Never do I look forward to going in or feel good coming out, mostly because of the right wing Christian vibe that permeates the place. They sell oversized "patriotic" white yard crosses with American flags and they decorate their Christmas trees with gun ornaments, not the stuff you'd normally find at Lowe's. The checkout staff is strictly matter of fact, devoid of much friendliness. So while the store serves it's purpose, it is not my cup of tea and I don't really enjoy shopping there. read more

I grew up in Wimberley and have never been a huge fan of national franchised stores coming to town. That said, the local flavor of the Wimberley Ace has endeared them to me. The owners are local and so are most of the employees. Wimberley Ace supports the community.Their selection of hardware, paints and lumber keep me from having to go out of town to shop for weekend projects. They even had a belt for my old mower that I would have had to go to Austin for otherwise.
