The bar is beautiful, the food was fantastic (I got a Grilled Chicken Sandwich with Pesto Mayo, Balsamic Dressing, Mozz, Lettuce and Tomato with Sweet Potato Fries) and they make strong drinks- on top of having a fairly extensive Irish and non-irish beer list. They also have a moment of silence at 10p every night for those who have passed away, which is really nice. It's also in Wayland Square which is a beautiful area of Providence. read more

Altogether too bright, too canned, and too scrubbed for an "Irish" pub; the overall feel skirts along "family restaurant." And yes, there isn't much in the way of nearby competition, so any port in a dry storm if you need a drink. But given the chance, you could end up almost anywhere else and find a better beverage list and more character. read more

I guess this is just what Wayland square needed! I went for a "ladies night out" with my gal pals and this place was hopping! They have a nice beer selection and some interesting food choices. They definitely have the pub classics, but with a twist. It made for a nice night out, but it was missing that cozy feeling that I love from some of my other favorite drinking establishments. Went here with some friends a week ago for brunch. The food was pretty good. I got the Reuben which was very yummy. The fries were good too. Probably won't go back because for some reason the service was wicked slow that day and it wasn't very busy. We waited 45 min to an hour for our food to come out. Horrible experience at McBrides. Very cute place with good drinks, but rude, rude workers. We were kicked out at 12:15, when an article in the paper clearly states that they are open until 12:30. In fact, they turned on the lights and turned off the music at five after and started yelling for everyone to "get out." My friends and I left and took our business elsewhere. I was not really a fan of this place. Had the clam chowder and it was just ok. I ordered the baked haddock and it was dry and flavorless as were the mashed potatoes. The flour-less tort dessert was quite nice so it wasn't all bad. Service was ok, a little slow at times and it was not that busy. McBride's provided food and drinks at both of our outdoor bouts this summer at the Bank of America rink. The sandwiches were delicious and hot and they brought a variety of beers that were nice a cold. The staff was also extremely friendly! I spend 4 months a year in Providence. Wayland Square is a wonderful small urban village, remote from the rest of the city. I always gravitate to McBrides whenever I want to relax in a casual atmosphere and/or meet friends or business acquaintances in a casual atmosphere. The Cider (Magners) is on tap. The Pear cider is as refreshing as many Champagnes. Good pub food is available and it is most effective when they stick with typical UK pub food... The bartenders and manager are friendly and this is a special place. What it needs, what is missing, is more privacy in the sense of wooden booths. The south space of tables across the petition is too open and needs more individual seating privacy....and such open space creates too much "noise" on the occasions of acoustic artists when in fact the acoustic music should blend more into the background...really...but we are talking real pub atmosphere needed here. This is a pub...not a restaurant, not a music club...The over-all plan here is great in potential but they really need to de-americanize the space. Stick with a real pub format and you will always please everybody because you will have dedicated followers forever.... Still, on a block with several excellent choices for food and drink, I prefer the at-the-bar charm of this pub and always recommend it. read more

Well if you're looking for homemade, fill you up comfort food, otherwise known as good Irish food, this is the place. If your looking a friendly bar where you might sit down and grab a good beer, this is the place. If you're looking for some good Live music every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday night, this is the place. They aren't looking to be a pretentious place, the decor is warm and comfortable, the people who work here are friendly and authentic, and the prices are reasonable. The pub seemed like a nice place to hang out and grab some drinks and snacks with friends. I can't comment on the food though. Me and a friend went in on a Saturday night and sat in a corner table. A waitress came by and took our drink order and asked if we wanted to order food too, so we said we might get an appetizer and she said she would bring us some food menus, which she did with our drinks. The problem is after giving us the menus she didn't return to ask us if we needed anything. My friend and I tried to stare at her as she walked by so we could grab her attention, and we tried to rearrange the menus on the table so it looked like we were done with them and ready to order. None of it worked. When our beers were almost empty (we were casually drinking) she finally returned. We asked to order calamari and her response was "ooooh sorry, the kitchen closes at 10" It was 10:25. Why would you first ask us about a food order, then give us a menu to look at, and then not return until the kitchen was closed? It's not as though the place was that busy, she had time to wander around like she was checking on tables, and stand by the register drinking a soda. I work in the food service industry, I know what its like. But I will never understand a waitress that offers something and then doesn't follow up. Maybe we'll get the calamari next time, as long as we make it before 10. read more

Ok so i know i already wrote a review for this place but i went again tonight and tried something new. The grilled chicken sandwich with pesto mayo, mixed greens, tasty tomatoes, and a balsamic glaze was so good and it also had some kind of cheese which i was happy to devour but have no idea what kind it was. I cannot express how good this plain sounding sandwich was. Melty, tasty, tangy, crunchy, fresh and did i already say tasty? It was just enough and of course i washed it all down with a moscow mule. It was trivia night tonight and many nights have live music now that the weather is coming around you can always sit outside and watch the people of wayland square meander around. This is one of those places that I Really want to love, but just don't for some reason. The food isn't bad, but it doesn't stand out. The beer selection is decent but slightly over priced. They make an alright Bloody Mary, but again, no pizazz! The place has a nice enough atmosphere but the crowd just never seems particularly warm. It's a decent place but it's just feels like it's missing something. Plus they have a great patio, but I'm not allowed to bring my pup. My favorite part about McBrides is the Irish music they were playing at lunch. Its a nice twist on an Irish Pub because its new, sleek and clean. Friendly service and decent beverage selection. I'm not a big fan of their food, but then again I'm not the biggest fan of Irish food. I think its a little pricey-then again its Wayland Square. I have always enjoyed their wings! read more

Great food, great service and music! Make sure to check Facebook for who is playing. For apps, love the nachos (American and Irish), flatbread pizzas are delish and calamari is really good. In short, this pub is exactly what Wayland Square needed -- a real bar! It has a very neighborhood-y vibe, which I dig. McBride's has a pretty good beer selection and sense of humor, which is probably needed given that it's owned by the funeral home next door. Who can't love that they offer specialty cocktails like the "Six Feet Under" and a moment of silence for those who've passed before last call? Well, maybe those who don't flirt with the macabre. But regardless, the pub atmosphere is great; their food offerings like the burgers and pizza were just OK to me until I tried their Irish fare. I had Bangers and Mash and my ball-and-chain had the Shepard's Pie, both of which were awesome. So -- go Irish when you eat -- and drink. ;) read more

McBride's is a quaint Irish Pub conveniently located in Wayland Square. (tons of cute little shops in the area) There are special events on certain nights, so definitely check their website for the schedule! Sometimes they have live performers or trivia nights and they even watch the Pat games! (or so I've heard.) I had the mac & cheese (with Irish bacon in it) and it was phenomenal. But if you don't like mac & cheese, which is crazy, they also have a wide range of food items from calamari to thin crust pizza and the traditional sliders. If you're looking for more authentic Irish fare, they have plenty of options for that as well! :) read more

I always have a great time at McBride's. The food is great (try the shepard's pie and the nachos), the selection of beer and booze is good and the service is great. It has a nice vibe inside from the patio to the decorations. I don't know why some reviewers are complaining about the service because the staff is always friendly and prompt. The night I went here it was very busy so good sign... I thought. On the good side, the staff was very friendly. This might be a good place to go for a beer, food not so much. On the bad, the food was not good. How do you screw up a burger?? My cheeseburger looked so unappealingly dry on the outside, the cheese was not melted, and the fries were COLD. My Medium Burger was rare on the inside, so I sent it back with the cold fries. When I got it back it was well done and I really think they put the same fries back into the fryer... enough said about how they tasted. My boyfriend had the Ruben it was OK and the sweet potato fries were slightly better then mine and warmer but nothing we would ever go back for. We were really hungry so So Disappointing read more

My brother and I stopped in for lunch and discovered a very delicious new spot in Wayland Square! My choice was mac and cheese w/bacon bits and better than Mom ever made. Bro had his usual Burger and cheese and he also was quite satisfied. My big test for any "Irish" pub is the two-pour of the Guiness. First pour 40% of the pint, let it sit for 3-4 minutes to settle, then VERY slowly pour the rest down the side, allowing for a 3/4 inch head. THEY DID IT! That's all I needed to get me back. Great bar, very good entertainment. Very busy, but good service. Unfortunately they never got the memo that it is no longer acceptable for Irish pub food to be terrible. Thin cardboard pizza, all dried up. Beef stew of mashed potatoes over boiled potatoes swimming in some lukewarm gluely brown glop. Fish barely adequate, less so for the chips.
