So excited b/c McBrides is within walking distance, but the big downer is the food. Before McBrides opened we (3-8 of us) were doing Friday happy hour at Fat Bellys on Steeple St. We've made many attempts to recreate that experience at McBrides and have often said we would go more, but the food is just not worth it. Have tried the nachos, sliders, salad, buffalo chicken tenders, etc. All just mediocre. It's such a let down and so frustrating. I want them to do well, but they need to do something about the food. Right now the only draw is the outside seating that's not sidewalk level with a hint of car fumes. read more

this is my second time to McBride's. the first time we just did apps and drinks. we were so impressed that we decided to come back for apps, drinks and DINNER! once again no disappointment (with the food). its a great atmosphere, had live entertainment (that was awesome) and its a convenient location. the only issue this time was with the speed of the service. the waitress was very friendly ....... BUT half the time we were wondering where she was. it took a very long time for someone to actually even acknowledge us when we sat down. with all that said i would still definitely go back. they may have had someone call out sick, or were just understaffed at the time. if you ever worked in customer service industry you know that can happen easily through no fault of the management. i still highly recommend ... only received 4 Stars because of slow service. definitely check out this place! read more

Need to properly train all servers and managers and hire chefs who actually care about the food they are sending out. Depressing.

A coworker and I headed down here to get a few pints after work. We're right around the corner so I'm excited to have a nice pub within walking distance. We arrived at 5:45pm and the doors were locked. The man sitting inside not 3 feet away, who appeared to work there, ignored us and we couldn't see posted hours anywhere. Went across the street instead, and as we passed it again on the way home over an hour later there were still no signs of life. Perhaps it's like Farmstead and doesn't open on Mondays? Anyway, no website & no posted hours is a bummer, hopefully I'll get to try it soon and can update the review! read more

Love the gorgonzola steak filet salad. Also getting pulled pork sliders just because their great to. Hold the French fries.

Good solid neighborhood irish pub in a cheers style. Had an irish breakfast there and it was excellent! Service was also good.An observation that is not meant to be derogatory is that the decor is a little like a chain without all the do dads, nick nacks and cubby holes that real irish pubs have. We will go back when we are in the area. read more

Food is passable, nothing to write home about, about as bland as the Irish theme. Just because you have Guinness on tap doesn't make it an Irish bar. The place is sterile with no feeling certainly does not transport me to a pub in Dublin. Everytime I have been here it seems so quiet, nothing like the jovial and loud Irish bars I am use to. Were the owners trying to copy the atmosphere of their other business the funeral home? And can we please stop the stupid 10pm ode to the dead, I just don't see the purpose of it. McBride's is a place with a very nice ambience, solid food, and a great beer selection. They also have live music, which is really delightful. The staff are very friendly and the service has always been timely and courteous. Great place! read more

Despite the outdoor seating, it is not dog friendly. In fact, I'd say the waitstaff are dog HOSTILE. We got our drinks quickly enough, but it took them an hour to take our order. We tried to get a waitress' attention to no avail. I felt we were being ignored, or that none of the waitstaff wanted our table. After 1.5 hours, we asked for our check - even the dogs wanted to leave - they had us pay our bill, but never delivered the salads. "Oh, you want them?" I have been here 3x and the waitstaff were unprofessional and the food was disappointing. Too bad because Wayland Square could have used another restaurant. read more

The Irish nachos and shepherd pie are the reason to go here. Other food options are "Fine", atmosphere is a little blah and service can be spotty, but it has a decent beer selection and since there aren't any real Irish Pub-type options on the east side, it's pretty much the best/only choice. read more

Amazing trivia night, the guy who runs it is funny. The drinks were unacceptably weak. My White Russians tasted like milk w a splash of Khalua, and my old fashioned was watery. McBride's is now a weekly spot for my wife and I. The service and food has consistently been very good. Great specials including salmon, guinness beef stew. Shepherds pie and corned beef and cabbage are also really good. Definitely recommend checking them out! read more

This place price-gouges families. I'm talking $8 for a kid-size serving of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. Yep. Eight dollars. I just found the receipt for our trip to McBride's and there it is in black and white: "KRAFT MAC & CHS, $7.90". Seriously. I would gladly pay that for decent homemade stuff (which wd have been preferable anyway), but isn't Kraft like $1.29 for an entire 3-serving package? And wouldn't it be even less than that from a restaurant distributor company? So come on. Eight dollars? Other food was fine, ambience about what you'd expect from the popular Irish pub genre. But that Kraft business left a bad taste in our mouths. read more

Another place that is hyped up but fails to deliver. The service and drinks were good, the drinks are reasonably priced. Now the food, their claim to fame of shepherd's pie tasted like a big glob of greasy instant mashed potatoes. The "Irish Mac" burger was nothing special and tasted like something from Sonic. And enjoy your 10-15 French fries, small portions to say the least. Go elsewhere, I don't understand what has happened to the places around Wayland. read more

I like McBrides. Typical bar food menu but very good and fairly priced. The service was great. Overall nice neighborhood pub.

Really good food, low key and a relaxed atmosphere. Good to grab a quick drink or settle and grab a bite to eat. Great staff as well!

My husband and I were very disappointed with McBride's customer service. We were informed on ordering the mac and cheese without bacon that it couldn't be made that way, suggesting they pre-make their food and reheat it rather than cooking to order. When the champ was delivered, it had bits of ham in it. We asked for regular mashed potatoes instead, as we did not want meat, and were then charged for both the champ and the side of mashed potatoes. When I kindly asked the server to take it off, she said she'd ask her manager but that it wasn't likely, so I asked to speak to the manager. When she returned, she had a new ticket without the extra charge and informed us that if we would like to order food without meat we should express it at the start of the meal, no apology for overcharging us. The fact that the manager did not come over to discuss this with us was yet another egregious sign of poor service. My husband, a native of Belfast, is familiar with champ, a dish of mashed potatoes and scallions. If a restaurant wants to add ham to it, they should advertise so. The onus is not on the customer to intuit which dishes come with unlisted additions. Perhaps most importantly, however, was that the unapologetic waitress and her apathetic manager failed to mollify their customers. We will not return. read more

I am a huge fan of irish and english pubs. Simple and delicious home style foods with a flare and some good drinks. I will say that this restaurant has good food. I was disappointed that they fry all their tortilla chips and seemingly their potato skins, as dining with someone who has celiac, made their options limited. That aside, it's spacious and open, very clean. However, where they fault is in their service. No hostess greets you so you just find a seat. The first time we came service was super slow (even though not busy) which I figured it could be the kitchen or something else so I tried to put that aside. But, when the server never comes to ask how things were and is more focused on their tables outdoors, I get a little peeved. Our most recent visit the server (who again had outdoor tables as well) came and asked if we wanted drinks, but then never returned when we said we just needed a minute to look the menus over. I decided to get up and leave when I see the waitress leaning against the bar playing with her cell phone in open view to everyone. If the service were better I would have given a better review. There's better pubs in providence, we won't be coming to this one again. read more

Stopped in for some dinner and a drink with a friend last night - I was craving a burger and we were in the neighborhood. Neither of us had been there before but because it was close to St. Patrick's Day, McBride's came to mind. What a great choice! It was a low-key Sunday evening around 8 pm and frigid outside (who would want to leave their home in this cold?) Parked right across the street and were seated immediately at a comfortable table. The woman who waited on us was amazing from beginning to end - sincerely welcoming and helpful - my dining companion and myself have spent numerous years working in restaurants and appreciated the thoughtfulness and efficient but warm professionalism of our server. I ordered a cucumber vodka martini straight up - really well made and delicious - and my friend had a Magner's. For dinner I ordered the "Big Blue" burger with a caesar salad instead of fries and my friend had the Blackened Grilled Salmon with mashed potatoes and vegetables. Both dishes were perfectly cooked, served hot, and very delicious. The entire experience was just right - low-key atmosphere, warm and friendly/unpretentious but professional service, and delicious, thoughtfully prepared food. Prices seemed very reasonable to both of us, too. I would love to go back - the food and drink menus offer a lot of yummy-sounding items. And they have Founder's Breakfast Stout on the menu! read more

ok, so i have lived in the neighborhood for 9 years and frequent alot of the local businesses. i had driven by mc brides many times since it's opening, so i finally decided to stop in at around 4pm on a recent friday. i asked the waitress if they made mojitos and was pleased and surprised when she said they did. when i tasted the drink, however, i was disappointed to find it tasting like nothing more than mint flavored water :(. because it was a friday i figured i'd order the baked haddock. it was served hot and tasty, but the portion was tiny. i may or may not give it another try. but with so many other great dining options nearby, you'd think they'd be alot better, especially being so new and looking to build a loyal following. the inside is very clean and nice, and the service was ok. final note: after spending about 30 bucks for my drink and meal, i came home and had a bowl of cereal. read more
