Male Bartenders unbelievably rude! Wouldn't remake my drink when a friend of mine ordered it wrong. Short male bartender picked a fight with me and said "if I did it for you, I would have to do it for everyone and I can't return that liquor to stock"! Only when I told him that "I would have my friend re-order it", he remade it with a total attitude! Will never return! Will go to pasta beach or a cool place on Wickenden. read more

McBrides = McBadass This place is totally solid. I've been here a few times, and I've reserved judgment until now because I take Wayland Square and Irish pubs very seriously. I don't mess around when it comes to beer whilst in my beloved WS. It entirely passes muster. Now, decor and atmosphere are some of the most important things in a bar/pub for me, because I don't always go to eat. It feels like a real pub--nice big bar, good stools, a dividing wall between the bar and the eating area. It's cozy while still being streamlined. I've had food and drinks here, and it's good stuff. I like their appetizer menu...I take my nibblies and munchies as seriously as I take my beer. And the beer! Above average selection of draught beers, and the most recently, they were offering Guinness' Black Lager for $3.50. Yup, I'll have that. Twice. In other news, a toast is held every evening for someone who is recently (or not so recently) deceased, they do trivia on Wednesdays at nine, the bathrooms are clean, and the bartenders are friendly without being overbearing. read more

I spent many hours here on Saturday and was treated so well and enjoyed myself thoroughly. We started at a table for drinks and snacks- we got nachos and potato cakes. The nachos were average, but the potato cakes were so delicious! We moved to the bar and had many drinks. The bartenders and wait staff were friendly and attentive- The kinda people who make you want to return to a place. I was told that the beef stew is AMAZING (but only learned this after I ordered) so I'll have to try it next time, since I'll definitely be back. The other patrons were super friendly also. It's a classic Irish pub where everyone chats with one another at the bar and it feels homey. Loved every second of it. read more

GREATEST SPINACH DIP IN THE WHOLE WORLD. I used to keep a list of every place I got spinach dip, okay? I'd rate it. It has to be a good balance of spinach with artichoke and cheese, not like "here's 4 chunks of artichokes, work around it like a common plebeian" like, it's gotta be perfectly sautéed and primarily spinach with like creaaaaamy cheese, not thick cheese. ALRIGHT ANYWAY CLEARLY this is the best dip in the world BUT let's talk about other things. The live music is FANTASTIC (it's Friday). Decent prices, great drinks, let's go back to the spinach dip and talk about my O face when I finished my dip by "O" I mean "overeat," obviously. SO GOOD. I will be back. Thanks McBrides. You can McMake me a drink or McMake me some spinach dip ANY day of the week! read more

Had a very pleasant evening at McBride's last night. Not the most attentive bartender, but she made good drinks. Not the best food (asked for my salad with dressing on the side) but instead, salad came fully dressed. It was okay, they had music and it's a friendly place. Enjoyed it. read more

Wayland Square needed an Irish pub. Badly! I'm just jealous I didn't have the idea/money/wits to build one :) McBride's is the perfect place for the just out of college and up crowd, who are ready to grab a Guinness at 5pm. Their meal selections aren't too shabby, and the staff are super friendly. My favorite bartender there is Joe - who is always wearing a smile, and ready to serve you your favorite brew. Parking's in the back - if you can find a spot. The best seats are at the bar ;) If you want a new twist - grab an appetizer of the Irish Nachos. read more

Servers are friendly but not overly chatty. The food is really good for nibblies and the live music is pretty great too. I also love that at 10pm they raise their glass to those who have passed. Beer selection is on point and some of the cocktails are pretty tasty too. read more

McBride's, Providence's newest Irish Pub is not bad. I stopped by for an early dinner on a Sunday and it was almost empty. We sat outside on their cute little patio in the heart of Wayland Square. Despite being one of the one tables occupied, the service was super slow! The food was pretty good, nothing to rave about, but not bad. read more

From the funeral home's old garage to a beautiful Irish Pub this the transformation that McBride's took. The wood work and décor in the place are absolutely gorgeous. It is a very comfortable place to sit down and grab a pint. The food is also great, I haven't tried any of the meals but have had the burgers twice and have loved their rich juicy deliciousness both times. If you are not in the mood for beer, I would recommend the "6 Feet Under," it is hands down the best White Russian I have ever had! Although they have great food and drinks, I think the best thing I like about McBride's is the charm and the feel. They regularly have an acoustic guitar player singing classic Irish songs. Music or not, it is just a relaxing place. At 10pm they maintain their funeral home routes and do "Last Call," where they honor and say a few words about someone who has passed, sometimes it is a local person and sometimes it is a famous person. Regardless it ends with a bar wide toast. If you are in the Wayland Square area or even if you are not stop by McBride's to enjoy a beverage and maybe some food. read more

I've been to McBride's a few times now, so I'm basing my review on a series of experiences here.. The beer selection is great. If you like unique beers then you should be able to find something here. The Reuben is delicious. Being able to sit outside with a unique beer and a delicious reuben is awesome. On the weekends it seems like they consistently have music, which is nice, but can seem a little loud. So if you are looking for a quiet irish dinner spot, this isn't a bad place, just go here early. When they are busy it's loud and the staff can get overwhelmed. read more

I think Mcbride's is awesome. This adorable little pub is right down the street from my house and it really epitomizes everything you would ask for in an irish pub and more. My first experience at Mcbride's was during opening week. Myself and two good friends sat down, grabbed a few drinks, and the host came by asking us if we could move for a larger party. We were happy to do it, and would have gladly obliged out of the goodness of our hearts. But Mcbride's threw in a free round of drinks on the house! Now that's what I'm TALKING about! I also have to say... the pub food is actually really good. I've gotten the irish nachos and brownie sundae. Who woulda thought that the irish could actually produce some good food that wasn't just meat and potatoes! Though the midnight tribute to a recently deceased pubsman is a little odd and morbid for my taste, it's so squarely Irish that you can't help but enjoy the moment of silence and cheer in drunken fervor too. To Mcbride's, I say... I raise my glass. read more

I really got lucky coming to Providence to visit Elie. I got to go to a record number of places in my 24 hours here. We met a friend of ours (and coworker of Elie's) on the street, and he told us to join him for drinks with another coworker. We plodded on the sidewalk, all 3 of us, side by side, and made our way to McBride's. They gave us a table right away, since there were not 4 seats at the bar, and the waitress was super friendly and accommodating. She enumerated the many sexy beers they had on tap, and we picked our choices. I perused the menu and saw really yummy looking choices, including shepherd's pie nachos. Next time:) I really enjoyed the ambiance here, and the place is very spacious. Totally a cool hang out, and again, if I lived in Providence (unlikely to ever happen) I would so chill here. read more

I've experienced McBride's at various times in the day and it is almost always busy. This isn't some neighborhood dive bar or uber fancy restaurant. It's just right in terms of drink/food selection, price and ambiance. One of my favorite times at McBride's was on St. Patrick's day. I had a friend visiting PVD from upstate NY and we decided to pop in to the pub just for one Guiness. We ended up staying a few hours and then returning later in the evening. Live music, giveaways, and great people? What could be better! The other times I've been to McBride's have been more low-key but equally fun. Whether it was drinks on the patio or competing in their pub trivia, the service was always spot on and attentive to our needs. The pub would be even better if it stayed open later, but I guess that's the trade off for being located in Wayland. read more

One perfectly sunny Friday afternoon I found myself thirsty in Wayland Square so we headed into McBride's for a pint. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the folks behind the bar letting us know we could take a seat anywhere we wanted. This may not seem like a big deal, but it's something I really appreciate. There's nothing worse than walking into a new restaurant/pub and having everyone stare at you while you awkwardly stand around trying to figure out if you should wait to be seated. We opted for a seat outside on the patio, which is pretty spacious especially for the East Side, and ordered up a few beers. When the beers arrived at the table I was excited to see that they were being served in the correct glassware. Again, one of those small things that's makes me an incredibly happy girl. When it was time for round two, we ordered a few apps as well. We decided on the beef sliders and the irish nachos. The sliders were good, not amazing, but still tasty. The irish nachos were interesting. They use their shepherd's pie filling as the topping, which is made with lamb, peas and corn and top that with lots of cheese and sour cream. That all sits on top of their house made chips, which were like deep fried triangle pillows. The first few bites were like a delicious kung-fu kick to my tastebuds, but after a few more bites I was all irish nachoed-out. A heavy, greasy dish it was. For a pub with a prime location in Wayland Square the prices are more than reasonable, parking isn't an issue and the servers/bartenders were really friendly. McBride's does a lot of the little things right, I'll be back for sure! read more

Previous reviews are spot on. Went here early afternoon for drinks and food. Sat outside, it's just a nice relaxing enviorment overall. Service was fast and friendly. McBride's has progressively deteriorated in food quality and service over time so this recent visit will be the last. A meatloaf special with gorgonzola cheese, vegetables and red bliss mashed potatoes arrived after a considerable wait looking much like a dog's dinner. It tasted like one as well. The meatloaf and gravy was an unrecognizable gelatinous, lukewarm mass that tasted like school paste. Instead of mashed potatoes the chef substituted some ancient disgusting roasted and re-grilled potatoes that had the tell-tale appearance of leftovers from someone elses plate. And the "piece de resistance" was the overcooked zucchini and squash that was totally lacking in color, squishy with water and overcooked to death. On a positive note, the waitress was nice about offering the menu and a redo. Ok, let's try the bacon and potato whatever and the pulled-pork sliders. The potato dish arrived after a considerable wait with no bacon, no character and no taste. How can one ruin such a simple dish? In addition, the potatoes were lukewarm as were the sliders, which arrived on buns that cried out for a moment under the grill or toaster to crisp them up. If you like a lot of noise (including people who laugh uproariously at everything their table mate says whether funny or not and clap loudly to enhance their satisfaction with the air in the room), an unrewarding drinks menu and tasteless, badly cooked food, this is the place for you. Otherwise head past the door, and be glad you did. read more

I come here for the great environment... it's our local go to bar. The food unfortunately is not impressive and many items are over $10. The price wouldn't be an issue if the food was better and healthier. But that said, I am a huge fan because it really meets a need in our neighborhood. The bartenders and waitstaff are really cool and you get the sense that the family has a vested interest in making it work. I have been here 4 times for food and go for drinks here at least 3x per month. read more

I absolutely LOVE Miller High Life. More than most people, as a matter of fact. My server brought me over the most beautiful bottle after a long day in the mines. He was a sweet boy. Tender and full of love. He told me his name was Kevin. He gave me an excellent recommendation after I asked him what type of seafood appetizers are availability. His eyes lit up and he immediately told me that the calamari was "fire" and asked me if I wanted balsamic on top. I told him to give me whatever he thought was best. His eyes were just so trusting and his energy contagious. Again, what a sweet boy. The calamari was delicious. I will be back here again. read more

Arrived late saturday afternoon at McBride's in wayland square with 75 and new member 65 after a day of high school football. Found some seats at the bar and settled in with our bartender Dayna who was personable and on point the whole night. After a few drinks we took a look at the menu. As the name of the place implies it is stocked with Irish fare. 75 opted for a bowl of clam chowder (white) I went with the house chips which turned out to be Dorito sized triangles of fried dough. Insert smile face here. i got them plain and added some salt(some powdered sugar was offered as well.) The chips are also the base of the Irish nachos. These things are addictive beware. For supper I decided on the Irish beef stew. A wide hearty bowl of stew with plenty of meat and vegetables and a scoop of mashed potatoes in the center. Four slices of garlic toast topped it off. A very good dish, perfect for a cool fall day. 65 left his choice up to the house and was rewarded with 3 corned beef sliders-very tasty- and a dish of very good coleslaw. 75 thought long and hard about the Shepherd's Pie but after talking with Dayna he went with the aforementioned Irish Nachos which is a plate of the delicious house chips with Shepherd's pie on top of them. He looked happy. McBride's has a warm comfortable feel to it like a neighborhood pub should. The crowd was friendly and talkative and they have a guy doing live music who is very talented and versatile. PLUS they have Dayna at the bar who quickly became one of our favorite bartenders. The true test being her Espresso martinins at the end of the night..they passed with flying colors. read more

So far so good. I live right down the road (sort of) so I could walk to this restaurant. There is not a dedicated lot to this establishment, but there is metered parking on the road (across the street from the pub) and there is also a lot around the block for public parking. It is a "pay" lot; however, every time I've used that lot, there was no attendant . . . so I am not sure how that works. In any event . . . The pub was a bit quiet, (opened at 11 am and my check was cut at 12:36 pm). I chose to sit at the bar with my friend. Bar appeared clean and there are two smaller TV's on the wall facing the bar from each end to show the game. No real dress code required. It's a pub . . . I went in a hoodie and gym sweats (not trashy ones). The wait staff /bar tender was pleasant and welcoming. The food came out in an acceptable time frame. I ordered the grilled cheese and bacon (this comes with fries). Fries were good, the portion was on the smaller side. The grilled cheese was good; however, Irish bacon must be the same as Canadian bacon (it's ham). Still all-in-all, a pleasurable meal. I did not leave hungry and my stomach was quite satisfied. From what I heard, the turkey wrap was also delicious. 1 mixed drink, 1 beer, and two orders of food for $31. Reading some of the reviews as "hit or miss" . . . today was a "hit." read more

Nice to have this place in the neighborhood, great pub with great pub fare. Also offer in door and out door seating.

Waitress seemed like she was on drugs to be honest. Food was okay, drinks were typical.

Just went here the other evening to meet up with a friend. The pub had mixed reviews so I wasn't sure what to expect. I think the lay out of the restaurant is really nice. They have a large bar area with a mixture of tables and then a dining area. Someone earlier commented that it was small...I guess if you compare it to a popular chain restaurant or something it is but I thought the size was just right for a local hang out. We sat in the dining area (it's seat yourself which is nice because you can pick your own table) and I was a little envious of those sitting in the bar area because you could see the TVs and you're right by the bar - or at least just a couple steps from it. Our food was great. I had fish and chips and the piece of fish was giant! The batter was nice and light and the fish was cooked perfectly - not dripping with grease and placed in paper like so many places I've eaten at. I ended up taking half of the fish home since the portion was so huge. The noise level did get a little high as it got later, but not any louder than your normal bar. The place was full the entire time I was there but not overly crowded. They had a trivia night that I might venture out with friends to try out. Just seems like a fun place to hang out any time of the week. It fits in perfectly with the variety of restaurants in Wayland Square. read more

During these last months, we have truly enjoyed some delicious lunches at McBride's! The burger, Cobb Salad, blackened salmon, and more have consistently been fresh and delicious. We have been very pleased with the Covid safety precautions that have been implemented at McBride's, especially enjoying the outdoor patio, and glad to see plexiglass panels in place between tables inside the restaurant! Look forward to going back and trying more delicious options and feeling safe while dining out. read more

I wish this place was better! I live near it and love pub food but it's overpriced and below average quality. the outdoor seating is great to catch some early afternoon rays and a beer. This is such an absolute pleasure to be the first person to review this pub. Especially when you consider that I am practically across the street! How can I resist? My boyfriend and I just had our first dinner there the other night. As soon as we walked in we were greeted with the smell of new wood and fresh paint. We also saw a rowdy group of older Irish gentlemen all standing at the bar drinking pints of Guinness. A refreshing sight to behold! Also a promising sign I think for things to come... To start I ordered a Loose Cannon IPA which they had on tap (yum!) and my bf of course went with the obligatory Guinness. As a starter we had the fried calamari which was finished with a garlic basil butter. Good but a little skimpy on the portion if you ask me. For the entrees I ordered their fish and chips which I was really impressed with. The menu stated that they used fresh haddock but when I had my HUGE piece of fish in front of me it simply flaked apart. It was moist and perfectly cooked. The batter which was crisp and just fluffy enough had a nice taste of beer in it. The fries that the fish came with were mediocre but hey I'm never one to turn down potatoes. The one downside to this meal despite how fresh and great the fish was that because they served me such a large filet a part of it had folded over on itself during the frying process. The batter in between this small fold was raw. Not a deal breaker lets just hope that it was a one time error. Certainly seemed harmless enough. Now to get to my boyfriends entree. He was in the mood for something hearty and filling. The Irish Mac was too bizarre to pass up. Mcbrides version of the other more famous Mac has the expected Irish spin on it. A triple decker burger with a potato pancake instead of another patty! The bun was grilled and had beautiful marks to prove it. The burger condiments were good and allowed for the patty and potato cake to shine through. While for me personally it was a monster of a burger my boyfriend couldn't have been happier diving right into it. Another thing to point out. On the menu it is stated that Mcbrides will cook your burger to your liking. I've always been skeptical of this because more often than not restaurants are too worried about the wrong person complaining of under cooked food, etc. However when my bf placed his order for the burger he was promptly asked how would he like it cooked? And the usual reply being as rare possible please! The burger that he was served was lightly seared on both sides and slapped onto the bun. All in all I have to say Welcome to the neighborhood, Mcbrides! You were sorely needed and will hopefully be a long lasting mainstay in Wayland Square. read more

Three of us went for dinner in our explorations of the neighborhood around 7:30 pm. The place was full (though we found a table right away), a lively, noisy crowd, many of whom seemed to be regulars. We ordered drinks and then our meals: chicken pot pie (tasty), the Famine pizza (also very tasty), and the fish and chips (the best in the neighborhood so far). The food is well priced, with good sized portions. Deserves 3 1/2 stars. Our waitress was attentive and very pleasant. All in all a good local informal hangout. We will be back soon. A g read more

First, the good news :they have Harp on tap. Other than that not much good to say. We went there for a couple beers and some dinner. The place was a bit too sterile and bright to get much of an Irish pub feel. We ordered the nachos and are were extremely disappointed. The house made chips tasted more like fried won tons than tortillas and the Shepard pie topping made them so soggy that we couldn't eat them. We ordered the steak special and neither came out as ordered, in fact, mine had to be sent back twice! Service was merely OK. They did have live music, which was actually good, but even that could not salvage the night. With all the other options in Providence I don't see myself going back there again. read more

Very amateurish. My wife and I stopped by last night. When you enter there is no sign saying "please wait to be seated" or a stand for a hostess. So we sat down which maybe was the wrong thing to do. We sat for awhile and tried to get the attention of a waiter to no avail. After being completely ignored by all staff we got up and left, and had a wonderful dinner at Haruki. read more

I like it here -- it's comfortable, spacious, clean, close to home, not crazy expensive. There are always people, in a super warm "we're a community!" pub kind of way. The service is always great. The food isn't your typical overly greasy bar food. AND If you really want to get sloshed they have a drink that's called the "six feet under" which is basically a white russian in a PINT GLASS. I mean, what else can you ask for from your friendly neighborhood pub? 4 stars (and not 5) because -- - I've never been able to sit at the bar. It's always crowded. Maybe once when I was there for lunch on a Saturday... but I love a good bar seat so that makes me sad sometimes. - The people who do the live music on Tuesdays (I think it's Tuesdays...) use these weird synthesizer-y things that make it sound like there's more than one person singing and it hurts my head. It would be so much more enjoyable if it was just a dude and a guitar or whatever. read more

The food is quite good and they have a nice selection of beers, but I had to dock a star (actually, if it were possible, I'd dock 1.5 stars) because their carbonator seems weak. Any carbonated drink (e.g., G&T) lacks a satisfying fizziness. Also, the beers on tap often taste flat, which I'm guessing is a separate issue, but equally less satisfying. However, I like the ambiance and especially the outdoor patio. My preference is to drink outside on a warm, fine day than to drink in a dark dive bar. If you have a similar preference, then you'll be happy that McBride's is in the neighborhood. read more

The food is mediocre at best. And I don't want to sound too picky but for an Irish pub in a city that has a memorial to the Irish Famine offer up a pizza with potatoes on it and call it The Famine Pizza is pretty odd. I lived in Boston most of my life and any Irish bar up there would never think of such a thing. If they stepped up their game with the food they would be in much better shape. read more

McBrides can definitely be hit or miss, but thankfully the good significantly outweighs the bad. It's a traditional Irish pub that serves pints from across the pond on draft like Harp and Magners. Their menu is also traditional pub fare -- not exactly easy to reconcile any health consciousness with their delicious (but mainly fried) food. They also have live music quite often which is always appreciated. It's a very casual spot in an area that is lacking places where you can show up in jeans and a t-shirt. read more
