I placed an order yesterday afternoon through the app to take advantage of a discount offer that was available. When I arrived, they were very busy, so I was happy that I had ordered ahead. I found my order on the carry-out shelf, but there was no cup for my sweet tea, so I still had to wait. I watched as staff members served the seated guests, took orders from the long line of patrons waiting to be helped, and package additional to-go orders. I waited several minutes and was surprised that no one was assigned to man the to-go station. Another gentleman was there waiting as well. Finally, an employee walked in our direction, made eye contact with me, but then went into the kitchen. When he came back out, he asked if I had a to- go order. I raised my bag and told him that I just needed the cup for my sweet tea. Another employee, who I believe was a manager, heard what I'd said. As the first employee reached to check the ticket on my bag, the other just handed me the cup. Frustrated, I filled my cup and left. I took my husband's lunch to his job; a Ham and Cheese Melt on a croissant and potato salad as the side. That was my first time ever ordering the potato salad and he reported that it was "pretty good". I ordered the Choose Two with a cup of soup and half sandwich for myself. I had my braces adjusted recently and I wanted to be gentle on my teeth, so I opted to have my sandwich on a croissant as well. That decision made no difference because that croissant was so hard and rough. The sandwich appeared to have been haphazardly thrown together and taking into account how busy they were, I would've given them a pass, but this was not the first time it has happened. My Broccoli Cheddar soup was delicious, as always, but they dropped the ball again when it came to providing our complimentary pickles. Neither of us received them. I feel that this is a common occurrence. If I were to have kept count, they'd likely owe me a jar of pickles at this point. Lastly, the deal that I was taking advantage of was for 50% off a Shareable when you order two entrees. I ordered the Ultimate Nachos to be shared during our movie night later that evening. When I've ordered this to-go in the past, all toppings were packaged separately from the tortilla chips. That was not the case this time. The only items kept separately were the chili/cheese mixture and the sour cream. All other toppings (tomato, red onion, pickled jalapeño, shredded cheese, extremely oxidized avocado, green onions and black olives) were placed directly on the tortilla chips, rendering them less than crisp. They were very stingy with the shredded cheese too, in my opinion. I just think the food quality and care has been steadily declining at this location. I tried to leave feedback through the app by contacting customer relations, but I received an error that would not allow me to proceed. read more

Consistently consistent at this McAlister's location. I ordered the King Club with a side of the Cucumber Tomato Salad. It was very good with tons of meat. That's what makes it the King Club ... double the meat. It was $12.99 which is a bit steep in my opinion. But it's only $2 more for the King than the regular club. So that is worth the up charge. My wife got the Southwest Chicken Salad. She always gets that salad here. It's her "go to" favorite. We really like that they have Coke products here. Hope that remains! I was out and about running errands and decided to stop at McAlister's Deli for a late lunch. I have always enjoyed the sandwiches and soups at McAlister's Deli especially on a cold Fall day. I ordered the Reuben sandwich with a side of potato salad. The woman at the cashier was very nice and professional when she took my order. I also ordered an unsweetened iced tea. The iced tea at McAlister's Deli is wonderful and never disappoints me whatsoever. It is famous for a reason. The ambiance is very modern and upscale, but definitely has a homestyle feeling to it. You do feel comfortable and at home when enjoying a meal at McAlister's Deli. The Reuben sandwich was delicious and wonderful . The potato salad was excellent and had the perfect texture and flavor blended in to it. I have never had a bad meal at McAlister's Deli. It is definitely a "go-to" place for a quick meal on the run. I wanted to write this review and talk about Owen. Sometimes, parents are really busy with their kids and forget to eat, and it's 8:51 pm- 9 minutes before closing. My husband drove off and I didn't want to order online - in case it wasn't fulfilled- so I called the store on 146th. I assumed they wouldn't answer, but luckily, Owen picked up! I explained, I knew it was shameful to ask if he would take our order. I apologized relentlessly, not because I had to but it's so necessary to ask for kindness - in a world where good customer service is a dwindling flame. He took my order and couldn't take my payment over the machines bc they were basically closing. When my husband returned home, I asked if he tipped Owen well, he's like, I gave 20%. Which is good, but I wanted to reciprocate Owen's kindness and give him a little cash to say thank you. Please let me know when he normally works and I'll bring it in. Not only did he take our order, we joked that service might've spit in our food, but when I opened up my salad... it was beautifully made with really fresh produce and full of Ingredients! I should be up front and say I'm not a big fan of any McAlister's Deli, so keep that in mind when you read my review. I feel their value just isn't in alignment with my taste buds. Price to food quality and quantity just doesn't get it for me. Overpriced sandwiches, soups and potatoes - BUT I always love their iced tea, so that's a win. Was in town for a soccer tournament, and the team needed a reasonably priced place with plenty of space, and McAlister's had a large dining room with plenty of seating for the boys to be together as well as the parents. Wife and I shared an 'ultimate' nachos. See photo. It literally is a $10 small plate of tortilla chips, about 1/4 cup of chili, a little bit of cheese and some jalapeños. Got the olives, guacamole and sour cream on the side. It just seems there are a LOT of nacho options that are better, bigger, and relatively similar in price. But as always, my tea was great. Decided to have lunch here today. I got the 1/2 Rachel sandwich (I added mixed greens and spicy mustard) and 1/2 southwest chicken avocado salad (added jalapeños). My boyfriend got the French dip and chicken tortilla soup. The Rachel sandwich was good, nothing special but good. The salad was delicious and huge considering it was a half! Lots of chicken but I wish there was more avocado on it. Dressing was tasty and I really enjoyed the spice of the jalapeños that I added. My boyfriends French dip was good and the au ju was reallyyyyy good... I dipped my sandwich in it too! For me, the chicken tortilla soup was just gross. It was more of a stew consistency like someone added way too much cornstarch... kinda like slime. While the flavor was good, I just couldn't get past the consistency... it wasn't right. I am going between 3 and 4 stars but decided on 4 because I was really impressed with the size and taste of my salad specifically. This is the best McAlister's location I have ever visited. Prompt, friendly service and the food was really excellent. The restaurant is always very clean, and the dining area is large enough to accommodate the lunch crowd. The carry out meals are packaged very nicely. It makes it very easy to grab lunch on the go. The menu has enough variety that there should be something for everyone. Quite a few vegetarian options too. On this particular visit it happened to be extremely cold outside, and I wanted something hot to go with my sandwich. I ordered the side of mashed potatoes, for the first time. I was pleasantly surprised, as they were not only hot and fresh but really tasty too. I enjoyed the Southwest Chicken & Avocado Salad as I do most times I visit the McAlister's off 146th street. This is my preferred location out of the two nearest to me. I have not had a bad experience at this location. By contrast; I have rarely had a good experience at the 116th /Carmel location. For that reason I decided to try 146th street/Carmel. This location is clean, the staff is courteous and attentive and the portions are good. I have tried other items but my favorite is this salad and my entire family enjoys the chocolate chip cookies. read more

So this review is based on the ongoing customer service problem they have at this location. They just don't get that customers have choices and they don't have to dine at your establishment. They are never prepared or organized for any promotion or event that comes along. Today was no exception. For those that didn't know today was the rollout of the 2021 tumblers. And for the first 20 customers they were giving them away free with a 30 day tea pass as well. Common sense would have told them to have a manager or responsible individual outside to pass out numbers so there would be no confusion but that won't ever happen here because this place is just a paycheck to them. I was number 16 so I got mine and purchased another which is a little over $10 with tax. It took almost an hour to get two salads because yet again they were not prepared for the influx of customers. While waiting on my food this little old lady approached me and said how is everyone getting those tumblers and I told her and she said that she was the first in the building which I can attest to that. But she placed her order through the carry out counter and they didn't give her a tumbler so me being who I am I flagged down two different staff members and told them what happened and of course they looked all bewildered and confused so I asked for a manager. Finally after nobody came I asked yet a 3rd employee and they spoke across the kitchen window to Kelly the manager who yelled across the window that we have already given out all the free tumblers. Seriously? This is the disrespect we show to our seniors and valued customers? So my next move was to buy another tumbler and I walked over and gave it to the lady. How hard was that? Where these places find their management is beyond me! I wouldn't expect to see this kind of disrespect especially in Carmel. I just shake my head in disbelief. read more

Late review: Free day today at McAlister's! I sure miss this place! I haven't been since the Covid pandemic. You can dine-in now and there's also outside seating. There wasn't much people dining in so I felt comfortable going in. I opted for my go-to sweet ice tea and an unsweetened ice tea for my SO. There are tons of flavors you Dan choose from. I used to love coming to this McAlister's, but the past several visits have left more to be desired and I feel that I had to leave my opinion. This location used to have great customer service and food, but that has not been the case lately. The staff has been less than hospitable and don't seem to care about customer experience the way they used to. This last occasion we went for lunch. We got up to the counter and we'd heard the cashier tell a group ahead of us they were out of potatoes, so we asked the employee when we got to the counter and he was very snippy with us. Other occasions have had similar poor experiences when ordering. In regards to food, it seems like they've cut corners on certain menu items. The salads I've ordered have repeatedly had a lack of toppings. This past time I got a chicken and avocado salad and it came out with 3 little pieces of chicken and one single slice of avocado. Mind you this was a "premium" menu item in which there is an up charge for as well. In my opinion, I feel like the overall quality of McAlister's has gone down from the place it used to be. Super great casual food when you want just a slight step up from fast food. Extensive menu of soups, salads, sandwiches; a few pasta dishes, nachos with chili and cheese, and great entrees for kids. Atmosphere is light and casual and generally the staff is super nice. There's usually a slight line during peak times but it moves fast, and food is never too long a wait. Sweet tea isn't as out of this world as they make it out to be, but it's good... good enough for a displaced Southern girl like me. The food is slightly overpriced, but it's generous portions... so no complaints. Their National Sandwich Day special of a $4 McAlister's Club got me in because they said they would be able to sub my pork products for more turkey at the same cost. It had been over a decade since I ate one. When I received my order at the carryout line, I quickly noticed that almost half my sandwich was missing as they did not sub the meat and cheese. They did correctly sub the mayo for mustard (not much of a cost difference for them). The older guy, who handed me my to-go order, said it was all there and that the subs were all doubled up on the top slices of bread (and just greens mix between the other slices of bread -- who makes such a sandwich??!!) I had to physically spread the items apart to show him that my extra Swiss cheese (subbing for cheddar) was missing. He finally got my cheese (and added an extra slice). While he was away, the younger server at the register followed his explain with false explanation of the sandwich makeup; he came within CENTIMETERS of touching my sandwich so I told him not to touch my food. Upon the older man's return, I tried to correct the missing meat issue, but he quoted me weights. He answered that I had 4 ounces of turkey all together (instead of just the 2 oz. of turkey that is normally provided). So the man knows how to quote to build their famous McAlister's Deli but has the older man never actually seen a McAlister's club!?! He would not sub the bacon as it weighed less than an ounce. As I drove home, I thought if they included my spear pickle. When I got home to check, the pickle was not included. As I was eating my club, I remembered how it tasted and believe that it was only 2 oz. of turkey. I felt so many negative emotions. The food was certainly not worth what I paid. I thought that they just do not know how to customize an order. I'm so disappointed in what this McAlister's Deli has become as I was the first person to review on Yelp this restaurant about 6 years ago. As I'm updating my reviewing, I'm surprised to read that other people has also had ordering problems recently. I do not know what it will take for McAlister's Deli to face the consequences of their defensive constant denial and leading faithful customers not returning until our orders are properly prepared THE FIRST TIME. Unfortunately, I've to agree with Yelper Brandon C. that this McAlister's Deli will go out of business since these issues have been happening for months. I'm thankful that other McAlister's Delis are within a reasonable driving distance from me (but I'll check Yelp before visiting them). Now, I'm beginning to think that the cost if renting their building is an issue as BoomBozz in that same shopping center is having ordering and cost issues. I suggest you all try the new Prodigy Burger and Bar across US 37 in Carmel's Clay Terrace as they are able to provide excellent customer service and food. People, I'm all about respectful waiters and waitresses and I can gladly say I've had a positive experience every time I've gone to McAlester's. My family and I order this food restaurant. Well we used to get it constantly but we've gotten it less but that doesn't mean I have forgotten how much respect and love I have for McAlister's deli. Everybody, this is a restaurant which I feel is worthy of a 5-star rating because the customer service is quick and snappy. You got people making sure your water is filled up and they don't fill the cups up during awkward moments. The food is extremely high quality. I especially like the Mac and cheese. It's good for adults and children of all ages and with this virus, some people are afraid of eating indoors and that's why they have outdoor seatings and another plus to this is that when it's nice outside, you can be outside in the fresh air. Nevertheless, McAlister's is worth giving a try if you haven't already. read more

I ordered an extra cheese baked potato and steak and gorgonzola cheese salad as part of the "choose 2" option. Everything was tasty except the grayish colored rubbery "steak". I maybe would avoid that in the future. read more

Love their sweet tea and meaty chili. Probably one of the best places to get your baked potato (called spud) garnished with some yummy bacon bits and cheese. The place is tucked in a shopping area near Dunkin donuts. You can easily miss it since it's in the far far corner of the lot. They also offer curb side so it's easy to get food to go. It will be awesome if they offer drive thru service. If you're into gluten free, they have a pretty good menu selection for you! While McAlister's is a chain and a pretty basic deli, I never walk out disappointed. Today I was craving a salad, so what do yah know I came here. I have had a few of their selections, including the southwest cobb and they're all pretty solid. Feeling a little ambitious today, I was told that the Savannah Chopped Salad was a special one. It includes chopped almonds, cranberries, lettuce, cucumber, tomato, and cheese (blue cheese?). Whatever the case - I devoured it (: A few perks about McAlister's - the free pickles, peppers, soup crackers, etc. counter is awesome! Especially for kids lol. First time going to a McAlister's. I love this place! This is 10 times better than a Panera Bread. All of the food is just the right portion size and quality for the price, which is the main thing I hate about Panera. And the service is soooooo much better. We didn't have to wait in line at all during busy lunch hours! There's tons of options: soups, sandwiches of all kinds (toasted hot, grilled, cold), salads, and baked potatoes. And of course they are famous for the tea. Most people get the sweet tea, but I like mine unsweetened. It's really good! For lunch I got a Pick Two option: half turkey reuben and half white chicken chili. Both were very tasty and filling. The white chicken chili isn't white at all, they put in lots of tomatoes and I'm not sure if they used navy beans? It seemed like there were some kidney beans in there! It was really good but interesting. My only complaint is some of the servers were kind of weird. You're given a little card, one side is green and one is red. Just like a Brazilian steakhouse, you flip the card to the appropriate color when you need something (like a tea refill). But our server was old and slow, so some other server filled our tea. He came over and started joking that we abandoned him, but we hadn't really talked to him at all so it came off weird. All in all, a solid choice for lunch. I will be back! read more

This location still needs to work on proper mask and glove wear. Masks sitting below an employees chin (multiple employees) is covered with your own respiratory droplets. Then to grab onto that mask with your gloved hand to pull the mask up over your nose so you can grab onto my cup to fill with in ice and a drink......Nope!! Not sanitary. Also, the cook having a mask hanging from his ear while coughing into his hand and then putting the mask back up to his face to cook my meal......Nope!! Not sanitary. Social distancing is not enforced by employees for themselves or customers. One trip from the Health Dept. and it's over. I like your food. Please work on your mask/glove training so we don't lose another option for good food because you have to close.
