The menu has a few unique sandwiches that make good use of the butcher's meat. Prices are reasonable. My husband had the Debris Po' Boy Sandwich, served hot. He loved his sandwich with a generous portion of beef, lettuce and tomato. I had the Grand Palace Salad, which was huge. The chicken was marinated in a Thai sauce and was a tad dry. The rest of the salad was fresh with snow peas, cherry tomatoes and mandarins orange. My friend had the meatball sandwich, which looked awesome. The sandwich was huge and shareable. (I'm getting that next time.) The clerks were friendly and helpful. The dining area is roomy and great for conversation. Restrooms were available. After visiting Joe's Butcher Shop for the first time, it was unanimously agreed that it would not be our last! The market area was small, but well-stocked, and I wish I had a cooler with me so I could have purchased some of the beautiful offerings in the butcher shop. We decided to have lunch here - we ordered from the deli counter in the back, and they brought the food to us after we sat in the adjacent, well-appointed dining area. (That is also where the large and incredibly clean bathrooms are ... moms with their kiddos in strollers will easily fit into the one-person bathroom.) Read the menu online and you will see this is no ordinary sandwich shop. Everything was homemade, and the high-quality was undeniable. We each had a sandwich and a different salad from the deli and were extraordinarily happy with our choices. We interacted with a deli counter employee who was incredibly patient with all of our questions, and with a knowledgeable woman who was stocking shelves and a cashier. They will bring your food out to your table once it's prepared. After we sat down at the table, I saw that you can simply order with the QR code at the table which seems super convenient!! We were so impressed with our food that we had to explore the store a bit and ended up purchasing the pot pies from the fridge/freezer section. I've passed by the butcher shop before but never stopped in for sandwiches. My friend was craving one so decided to finally stop by. We had the Hot Capocollo, Evan's IPA Braised Beef, and the Hot Italian Beef. We really liked the sandwiches, but we did wish there was a bit more heat to them. The giardiniera was definitely different than the ones I'm used to - felt more like a slaw. I would come again to try the other sandwiches as well. It was a little hard to choose but I think I chose well with the Hot Capocollo. I have been to Joe's Butcher shop several times and didn't realize it has a sandwich shop in the same space as the butcher shop, literally adjacent to the meat counter. Thankfully, I stumbled upon Joe's Next Door while looking for food on Yelp in the downtown Carmel area. Based on other people's recommendations, I knew I wanted to order the Braised Beef sandwich before I even walked in the door. Currently, the inside of the Butcher shop/Deli is set up to make everything move in one direction, which is a little bit confusing and due to the less than ideal interior size, can make it quite cramped. You order the sandwich at the deli counter, then wait in line with everyone else ordering at the meat counter until the line finally makes its way around to the checkout. In my opinion, they should have a checkout register at the deli counter for those only wanting to order from the deli. But that's my only gripe about Joe's. That said, after the 10-15 minute wait to make it from the deli counter to the checkout, my sandwich was ready! I got some Broad Ripple Chip Co chips (flavor was 'sweet and spicy') to go along with the Braised Beef sandwich. And oh my goodness was the sandwich absolutely delicious. It had a very generous portion of beef and the melted havarti cheese went great with the sweetness from the red wine gastrique and caramelized onions. My newest deli crush! I am so glad this is walkable from my office because it's getting added to my weekly lunch menu. Online ordering opens at 11am and this is the way to go to get easy takeout! I placed my order a bit after 1145 assuming there may be a lunch rush and I got a text about 3 minutes later that it was already ready! I didn't notice when I ordered but online also tells you your approx wait time which is so nice. I tried the turkey pesto sandwich and some Joes chips. The sandwich was filled with turkey, I mean filled! It was. Loaded with fresh green pesto and fresh mozzarella too. It also came with some sauce that I wish there was more of and shredded lettuce. The part that was a nice touch was a baked parmesan crisp. The sandwich itself I thought was a tad dry (like I said it would be helpful if there was more sauce or honestly slather some mayo on there. I am absolutely floored by this BLT, best one I've ever had. Its magic in your mouth... will be having dreams of this sandwich. Sweet and smokey bacon, tangy tomato, creamy avocado, perfectly toasted sourdough (not too toasty where it hurts your mouth, you feel me?). The steak sandwich is just as phenomenal as the first time and we really liked the Evan's IPA as well. The bread was a bit dry (same bun that was on my turkey sandwich from before) even with the juicy meat on it. This is my new go-to deli sandwich spot - the freshest ingredients there are! They slice the meat, cheese, and other sandwich add-ons as they are creating this wonderful masterpiece! I got Joe's BLT which was recommended by the deli worker and SHE WAS SO RIGHT! The bacon is what I would describe as candied - super sweet, and very thick and house-cured. It also came with butter lettuce that my sister-in-law pointed out and it added the much-needed soft crunch. The seared sourdough was amazing and only added to the awesome taste of the overall creation. This was also my first time trying the Broad Ripple Chip Company chips - I got the sweet and spicy style and they were awesome, the perfect balance of tang and zest! Joe's Next Door also hosts many different local vendor's items in a convenient location. They have local craft beers, locally made sauces, and fresh produce. Their fresh meat deli had all kinds of meat from chicken, turkey, beef, and seafood. They had a house sausage that I would like to try the next time I go back! I was really excited when we decided to try Joe's Next Door for a casual Saturday lunch to go. I had looked at the menu beforehand, which I was thankful for or else I probably would have been overwhelmed with the line forming behind me. I decided that I wanted the Hot Capocollo Panini because all of the ingredients on the sandwich sounded so yummy, but I subbed the capocollo out for turkey. I also got a bag of sweet & spicy Broad Ripple Chip Co chips. Overall the environment in the shop was just hectic and confusing. There are shelves in the middle of the shop and multiple black taped lines on the floor, so it was unclear where people who just ordered sandwiches were supposed to stand in line to pay at the register, which is located out of sight from where we ordered sandwiches. I'm sure that it would've been less stressful if it was not so crowded in there due to the fact that one of the registers was down during a busy weekend lunch rush. We waited about 10-15 minutes in line to pay, but when we were finished our sandwiches were ready and we went on our way. Unfortunately, along with the environment of this place, my sandwich also missed the mark. While the toppings that were supposed to be on my panini were havarti cheese, caramelized onions, and sliced jalapeños, my sandwich did not have the caramelized onions. I feel like the onions would have definitely brought this sandwich up to my expectations. Don't get me wrong the sandwich with just turkey, cheese, and jalapeños tasted good...it just wasn't anything special. Maybe it's my fault for subbing the capocollo out for turkey. Best Deli I've eaten at around Indy. I moved from the East Coast and we had phenomenal delis every block in the city and I've found that Indy doesn't have many and the few that are rated good, I've found we're overpriced and nothing to rave about. However this place is 5 stars no doubt. The chicken salad was phenomenal and a very generous amount, the service was awesome, the guy who made my sandwich was so friendly, and they have a wide variety of sandwiches and they have a butcher shop that had amazing meats. This place is so awesome. I can't complain about much except the sub bread was a little dry but not too bad. Overall this place is the best deli I've had in or around Indy. My only suggestion to them is either making their own hard rolls or try to find a bakery to buy fresh rolls from. Also the prices are very well priced!! They have special sandwich combinations with unique sauces and toppings. The staff are all insanely sharp and professional. The owner is there a lot and the rest of the staff are usually fairly young high schoolers. Evan's IPA braised beef sandwich is the reason to go to Joe's Next Door, which is the deli/sandwich counter on the east end of Joe's Butcher Shop. I'm not even a person who eats sandwiches. But this is worth it, and everyone in my family agrees it's the best sandwich they have ever had. Served warm, it's basically a roast beef sandwich, but with interesting flavors you'll just have to try. There is seating adjacent to the counter, and many things you can purchase to eat there or take home for later (butcher shop, mini grocery, deli items, etc.) High quality food, and very nice & experienced professional staff. Parking on the street out front, and a parking lot is located south/behind the store (back entrance for convenience). The flank steak sandwich is super crave-able, and I find myself thinking about eating it even five days later. If you've ever eaten really good Mexican carne asada straight from the grill, then you'd be familiar with what this sandwich tastes like. It's just a big pile of grilled, marinated carne asada, topped with cilantro aoli, pink pickled onions, and lettuce. But it's like 85% meat, which is great. Every mouthful is meat. They use romaine lettuce in their flank steak sandwich (and many other sandwiches), which I ate, unfortunately, during the whole romaine lettuce scare of 2018. But I'm not sick ... knock on wood. So I'm assuming Joe's gets their lettuce from a local, reputable source. One thing to note when you visit this deli: You do not need to grab a number if you're just ordering a sandwich, despite what the sign at the front says. Three sandwiches...almost $42 bucks. The Cuban was not great. The flank steak...seemed more like roast beef and it tasted as though it was burnt. The Banh Mi was probably the best of the bunch. 100% agree with Jake D.'s comment: this BLT is life changing. I know this because I do NOT typically like BLT's but this one is memorable for all the right reasons. This is within Joe's Butcher Shop - a small sandwich counter in the back right corner. Sandwiches can be enjoyed out front along Main Street (a few tables outside the shop) or are perfect for a picnic, wrapped in parchment paper. I wasn't the biggest fan of the French Orchard (too much trillium cheese in my opinion) but the BLT. OH MAN. Thick, flavorful bacon. This isn't thin and crispy stuff. It's the real deal. What makes the house cured bacon even better is heirloom tomatoes (yes please), avocado (my favorite) and garlic aioli all on sourdough bread (the best bread, second only to pretzel bread). Given the reviews, came here with fairly expectations and while the service was great, the sandwiches left a lot to be desired. Most notably, the bread was not fresh/soft but was either a day or two old or was stored in a refrigerator? Either way, it was hard and dry. The chicken salad, which I was told they were "known for" was definitely good but a bit on the dry side. So, with the bread already dry, it was fairly disappointing.
