We walked in and were immediately greeted by Mr. Fitzgerald. He could tell we were new, and offered tips and suggestions. They were already sold out of the chicken salad for the day. I opted for the Chicken Bacon Wrap and my mother got the Cubano. While we were waiting for our food, a patron recommended the mac and cheese, baked potato casserole, and soups. I also ordered a side of mac & cheese (about $4) and a chocolate chip cookie ($3.50) because I'm a hog. The roast beast was okay. It had a generous amount of beef, but it was too salty. The beef was dipped in some sort of brine or stock that had too much salt. Also, the beef-to-cheese ratio was off for my taste..... there was too much beef and not enough cheese. The chips were good. Had a wonderful lunch at Fitzgeralds recently. It's only open on weekdays for lunch so I've been meaning to come here for a long time, but haven't been able to until now. Everything we had is so fresh and you can tell it's made with a lot of care. You order and pay at the counter, get a number, and then are served at your table. The atmosphere is very casual, and the interior is clean and bright. There is lots of parking available as well. We had a couple different people check on us throughout our meal which I appreciated. I got the chicken salad sandwich and it was delicious. I'm always nervous to order chicken salad since it changes so much from place to place, but this one was clearly made with fresh chicken. My dad got the Cobb salad and really enjoyed it. We both got soups, I got lemon chicken orzo and my dad got the tomato bisque. I highly recommend both. The entire staff is so very friendly here. This restaurant has a deceptively large dining area that just keeps going and going as you move towards the back. They have a pretty simple menu with sandwiches, salads and wraps. They also have daily entree and side specials that they post on their FB page. The day I was there the special was chicken and noodles and chipotle mac & cheese. The top it off they have a hot sauce bar and desserts like some huge coconut cookies. They have a down home type of vibe. It is somewhat a cafeteria style restaurant. You place your order and they make it for you from the prepared trays on the line. You then pay for it at the register at the end of the line. If you are dining in, they will bring your food to you. I got the bacon wrap with the chipotle mac & cheese special. It was fresh and delicious. The wrap was very tasty and flavorful. The bacon, lettuce, tomatoes and other ingredients were so fresh. The Mac & Cheese was cheesy and had a little chipotle kick, just like I like it. When you are done eating, you can just get up and go. They will come, get your tray and clean your table. Went here for a holiday work luncheon. Very busy. We had a group of 7 so we squeezed into a table in the front. The staff are super friendly, told us how to order and came by often to check everything was good. You line up to order, then pay, and if you're eating in they'll bring the food to your table. I wanted the egg salad sandwich but they were sold out so I got the chicken salad sandwich instead. I got a fountain drink too and the sandwich comes with chips. The sandwich was good and the chips were nice and salty. Can't emphasize enough how great the service is, they refilled our drinks and checked if we needed anything and cleared our plates too. It's not a large building The staff was very friendly. I ordered the Rooster sandwich to go. The Rooster consists of: Chili lime chicken, smoked bacon, avocado, pickled onions, white Cheddar, and chipotle Mayo served on a toasted baguette. I liked this place a lot, a whole lot. It's charming, it has a cozy feel to it, the service is friendly and inviting, and most of all the food is very very good. Coming here was recommended by someone who works in the Fort Ben area. She said I should go try the Cuban sandwich if I can get in but that the restaurant is fairly small and often fills up quickly. I lucked out - when I went a little after noon on a weekday I was one of about a half dozen people eating inside, plus a couple braving the cool weather on the patio. The gentleman who took my order at the counter seemed to be one of the primary food preparers, if not the only one. I did indeed order the Cubano - a sandwich with roasted pork loin (he told me he cuts it really thin and seasons it in a special way to boost the richness of the flavor of the pork), ham, pickle chips, yellow mustard and Swiss cheese, all hot pressed on Cuban bread. I've had many a Cuban sandwich before, particularly when I lived in Southwest Florida, and this was absolutely on par with anything I've had anywhere else. The sandwich came with kettle chips, and since I was new to visiting their restaurant, I graciously accepted sample size servings of their two hot sides - mac & cheese and baked potato casserole. I really liked both but found the casserole a little more interesting when paired with the sandwich. I would probably order an entire side of that next time. In addition to the food, I enjoyed sitting near the counter and listening to the banter of the employees, who all appeared to know each other well and may be related to each other. At one point the woman at the register said out loud, to no one in particular, that the music on the satellite radio sounded like ballet. I had noticed the music already because for my money you can't beat a place plays classical music during lunch hour, and I commented that I didn't think it was ballet, it actually sounded like Beethoven. Sure enough, the gentleman who took my order had put the radio on the Beethoven channel. So boom, nailed it. The lady who started the conversation commented that he likes to change it up as far as the radio goes and would probably put on Five Finger Death Punch by the end of the week. These were clearly my kind of people. So anyway, the menu is not huge. Eight different sandwiches, five different salads, five different sides, and soup. Oh, and let's not forget the homemade cookies. They seem to do a lot of catering business. I would most definitely come back and try other menu items.
