Fair prices, good selection, mellow & idiosyncratic staff. The way a small business should be.

Review Highlights - Maynard Outdoor Store

The Outdoor Store is a great store and serves all the towns in the area, INCLUDING the "snoots" who live in Acton.

It's a smaller TJ Maxx hidden in a back corner of some random strip mall on Rt 20 in Sudbury. I…read morewill fully admit that I despise driving on Rt 20 in Sudbury, and that probably influences my opinion. I was looking for shirts. And the selection was slim. Tons of tank tops/camisoles. And tons of these floral ruffly peasant blouses. But nothing that a normal person would wear. I just found the whole selection skewed either Junior or Matron. And I don't fall into either category.

I don't know, where I can file complaints from store employees…read more Today, I purchased pants and dresses from the runway section at Sudbury store. I checked out at register #6 at 6:24pm on 09/19/2024. The cashier kept saying she couldn't believe the price of the clothes with the red tag. I think, Everyone goes to this store because there's a lot of good deals to find amazing prices. She looked at the clothes and me repeatedly, saying something was wrong and she suddenly whispered to the other staff next to her and kept looking at me. Eventually, she called a man like a manager, and she asked him to double-check the price with the other machine all red tag. I couldn't understand why she kept acting that way. It took a long time to calculate and re-check the price. The manager said that there was nothing wrong with the price tag after verifying it. but the cashier women refused to give up, so she took out the clothes, she had placed in the bag after scanning right before and asked the other women like manager next to her to double-check the pricing of the red tag again. She also said there was nothing wrong with the price. Does she not trust the price tag of the store where she belongs? Or doesn't she trust me, just me, as a customer? When a customer purchases a final price item, is it common to call the manager to recheck the price? My English is not good, but my conversation skills are not bad. but she never answered my question about the current situation and ignored it. She was really rude and showed no regard for the customer. I'd want to inform you that the cashier of an old woman is an inexperienced employee who ignores, mistrusts, and mocks Asian clients who purchase high-quality things.

Lately, though, I've had some great experiences at this one. They have an ever-changing selection of rugs, at great prices, as well as some nice furniture. If you take some time to look, you often can find a really nice piece - like the reclaimed wood side table I got last time in there. Their kitchen selection is huge and really well stocked since they revamped the store last year. You can even score some really good hot sauces or spices. Bedding is hit or miss - as is the artwork selection. And here's a secret - one of the best things they have going these days - Dog beds. Really - they have tons of awesome 'donut' style beds for dirt cheap. My dog has a couple of expensive beds from fancypants brands - and without question prefers the $15 ones I've scored at HG. Checkout is very well run and generally quite friendly. Really the only 'ding' here is the damn parking lot - what a nightmare that is. It really sours the experience at any store in this shopping center.

They also are very generous with returns and will take things as long as like new and have tags ( for credit). Not as big as Marshals/ HG in Westford but better run and many more sales items ( 3 sections of sale and clearance). I have no issues with parking except maybe at Holiday times. Love this store!

I recently found Butter London nail polish that retails for a pricey $15 a bottle for $4. I've also found products from Bliss and Shiseido for a fraction of the retail price. This is a great place if you're into trendy things. Let's face it, trends come and go fast these days so it doesn't make sense to break the bank for accessories or clothes that will be out of style by the end of the season. The employees here are really nice too. I found the perfect plush blanket for my bed while Christmas shopping last year, but it didn't have a price tag. I asked a man working there if he could help me. He looked around and compared it to other blankets and asked if $29.99 seemed fair. It really fit the $49.99 category I said. He took it and tagged it for me at $29.99, smiled, and wished me a Merry Christmas. He made my day. I would consider this a medium sized Marshall's. Their selection in all departments is pretty good and there's new stuff all the time.

When I spoke with the manager, all they said was that "it happens." On top of that, I was charged for a speaker I didn't even buy. It's a basic responsibility to give customers the items they paid for and accurately ring up purchases. I will be avoiding the Marlborough Marshalls at all costs.
