I've shopped at Dance This Way a couple of times for my daughters' dance clothes and received decent customer service and nice quality products. However, twice now I have visited the store during the time that yelp and their voicemail says it is supposed to be open, but it has been closed. There's a paper sign on the door that has different hours. I'm all for flexible store hours, but please please please update your store hours in the places that somebody who isn't already at the store can see before they drive out to Concord. read more

The best dance supply shop around! I have never been to a dance shop that has both the selection of quality products I'm looking for and the excellent customer service to match. My daughter does ballet and we have been exclusively shopping at Dance This Way since we discovered it four years ago. From leotards to tights to hair nets to accessories - they always have just what we need! And they're willing to order what they don't have. In addition, every staff member is helpful and knowledgeable. They are great at fitting ballet slippers, never trying to sell you something that isn't right for you. My daughter always feels like she's being listened to when she tells them how a particular ballet slipper feels or fits. And the staff never seems annoyed by needing to try multiple pairs or brands - in fact, it seems as though they actually enjoy helping you find the right pair! I'm always a satisfied customer here and will continue to shop here as long as my daughter dances! Five stars! read more

I am shocked about how rude the owners could be -when things would not the go the way they expected. My daughter had a very poor pointe shoe fitting. I was yelled: "Boston Ballet don't know -I don't care who says the shoes are too small... my daughter is the best pointe shoe fitter in the region!."... After I returned to store (w/my daughter) for a second fitting appointment I was yelled by the daughter -who was rude and quite disrespectful. Shoes were not exchanged nor we had the chance for a second accurate fiiting. After living many years in Concord -I find this truly distressing and unacceptable. We all need respect -regardless if we are not tall white women. Overall the entire experience was a good one for my daughter who learned about how a pretty white female face could look awful when they mistreat and yelled at other women -who are not white. Interesting that I read what the owner wrote in a previous review: "To our lovely and loyal customers, thank you for making coming to work feel like seeing old friends each and every single day. Here is to respect, empathy, and building relationships. - Alena Ghastin" I encourage everybody to find a place to buy their dance-related needs where staff -and owners in particular, don't feel they are the top of the world (even better than professional instructors at Boston Ballet) and are respectful and inclusive. The story she posted is completely fabricated, I never have been banned from their store or any establishment, she completely made this up to turn the tables and make me look bad. Sales people were rude both times we were there and rushed us to make a decision about shoes telling us there were other customers waiting. When one of the two pairs of shoes we bought didn't work out they refused to let us exchange them 10 days later because the BOTTOM of the shoes were "scuffed" (they were only worn twice, less than 90 minutes, inside). The woman who helped us the second time said she would give us a new pair of shoes for 50% off, and when the total was $46, I asked if that was with the discount and she said, "Welcome to the real world". Also, their selection for attire is limited and the store is very cramped. read more

This is a lovely boutique store with knowledgeable and experienced fitters. They have an unusually varied stock of leotards which is a nice change if you want to add something new to the tried and true. We've been in the area for many years and have heard only positive reviews for this store. They've never let us down. read more

Favorite dance store around.....unique, high-quality, stylish and fun selection of dance & exercise gear. Owners are highly versed in technical aspects of their offerings and have earned their emerging reputation as the best pointe shoe fitting around. I usually spend more than I intend to because I see such fantastic things there and worry they will sell out. :) Alena G is phenomenal dance advocate and expert and I totally trust her guidance for my daughters' dance needs. This store has fabulous products and employees! I've been amazed by this store since I've walked in. The only thing I have found to be a problem with this store is pointe shoe fittings. I didn't schedule an appointment, but they still let me have a fitting, which was amazing. It started very well; the women that helped me were fabulous. They kept having me try different shoes so I could find just the right one. I even found a pointe shoe that was better than the ones I had been using before! I felt great until they started refreshing my memory on how to do ribbons and elastics. I didn't have hyperextended ankles and they still told me to cross the elastics! i was so surprised that they brought that up when I knew it was wrong. i didn't correct them because I thought that maybe they weren't really paying attention to my ankles, so I let it go. After though they told me to stitch my elastics was to far forward, like where the ribbons should be. I was really started to wonder about them. My mother even asked about it after, and she knows nothing about dance! I had only had one pair of pointe shoes before and had been a few years since I had gotten new ones, so I was a little worried that i was wrong, and being only 14, I am very forgetful. Before sowing them I went to my teacher to make sure I had been doing it the right was, and she said that they were totally wrong! Also there pointe shoes were very expensive, so I would check the prices of shoes at other stores too before buying them.I would definitely go back there, but before sowing your shoes, make sure you approve them with your teacher! read more

I took my 10 year-old daughter to buy dance shoes and clothes. I am SO impressed by the owner's knowledge and how helpful she was. She spent more than a hour (past closing time) helping my daughter with leotards, jazz and ballet shoes. I have never received so much individual attention in a store. Also, she wasn't pushy at all in fact one time she told me that my daughter didn't need something. BIG five stars for Dance This Way! I highly recommend them. read more

Dance This Way is a staple in the dance community around Boston's MetroWest area. Both helpful and humble, the owners and employees are extremely pleasant and very knowledgeable. As both a ballet teacher at a highly recognized school in Boston, and a former dancer myself, I can vouch for the expertise that is demonstrated by the staff at this store while fitting shoes. I was moved to write a positive review for Dance This Way after seeing a recent review that was clearly written by someone who does not completely understand what goes into fitting a pointe shoe correctly. To the point of that recent reviewer, the women at Dance This Way DO know how to fit pointe shoes--and they do it better than anyone else around. I continually insist that my students are fit at this store and ONLY this store. The staff is excellent at both ensuring the proper fitting of pointe shoes as well as educating novice dancers (and their parents!) at how to sew ribbons and elastics into the shoes correctly (i.e. at the proper angle and depth into the shoe, with or without a criss-cross of elastic, the proper tightness of elastic, and correct placement of ribbons in relation to the dancer's instep). I am dismayed to see that a young dancer (and her teacher) took the recommendations of a criss-crossed elastic from her fitting and turned around to say it was "wrong". Not only is it far from "wrong", but it further emphasizes why this store is so valuable.The lack of education surrounding proper pointe shoe fittings and safe effective methods for dancers to break in shoes is astounding. Dance This Way provides a wealth of knowledge to dancers, always providing beneficial advice to customers no matter what level or age. They know what they are talking about and it shows again and again. The comments made by this reviewer (and her teacher's agreement with the thoughts of elastic placement being incorrect) demonstrate a lack of proper knowledge about (and experience with) pointe shoes. I can't explain how greatly I appreciate that the women at Dance This Way understand and embrace the differences in each dancer's foot and ankle when they fit shoes. My students are all evaluated individually as they are fit, which results in shoes that fit soundly. Several of my students have criss-crossed their elastics at the suggestion of the staff and I am pleased with the result. Some dancers may need the extra grip from a second elastic to ensure that they don't lose a shoe while dancing because of having such a high instep. Others benefit from the extra support given by two elastics as it aids in holding the shank of the shoe more snuggly to the bottom of the dancer's foot--as it is common in beginning pointe students to have a slight sickle in one or both feet as they develop their ankle strength. Without the extra support, these dancers often suffer from having a pointe shoe shank "sway" to one side of their foot, only exacerbating the sickle. A normal developmental stage of early pointe work becomes a problem as students compensate against a swaying shank to stand up on pointe with only partial support underneath their foot. Criss-crossing elastics is a fundamental fix for some students in this stage of learning to stand correctly on the platform of the box with their weight up and over the big toes. For other students, it is completely unnecessary as they do not have a problem finding the correct ankle placement up on pointe and do not have an instep that threatens to pop out and away from their shoe. Again, it all depends on the student. My hope is that anyone looking to be fit by professionals will realize that this is the store to go to. They are great at what they do but more importantly, they are kind, diligent, and honest people--people who care enough to tell students and their parents the truth about what is best for them whether it coincides with what the customer has been previously told and advised or not, people who will spend as much time as it takes to find the correct shoe for each and every student they work with, and finally, people who will ensure that every dancer and parent feels confident and comfortable with the shoes they are leaving the store with. They share great tips and tricks and always answer questions with great concern for accuracy and clarity. I am impressed by the education my students come back with, the extra exercises they were taught in the store to strengthen their feet and ankles, the correct concepts of breaking in a shoe to allow correct placement and alignment of the body, and even the neatness of their shoes (both the sleekness of the fit and the correct sewing of the ribbon & elastic). Forget going anywhere else--all the stores within 45-60 mins of Dance This Way don't hold a candle to them. read more
