From the outside, ATA Cycle looks like the kind of place where very serious cyclists drop $20K on a bike without blinking. And yes, that world definitely exists here--but what surprised me is how welcoming and useful it is even if you're not that person. I first stopped in a few years ago when I was just starting to get more serious about biking. I was in "just looking" mode, but the owner, Husam, ended up having this unexpectedly refreshing take: men think nothing of spending real money on their bikes, and women should feel just as entitled to invest in themselves. It stuck with me. I didn't buy my bike there at the time, but recently went back for a professional fitting ahead of a cross-country ride--and it was 100% worth it. He adjusted me to a shorter reach and narrower handlebars, which completely changed how I ride. I'm now using my hamstrings and glutes much more instead of torching my quads early. He also spotted that my left leg is actually more dominant than my right (never would have guessed that) and gave me exercises to balance things out. I also ended up upgrading my cycling shoes while I was there, and even that made a noticeable difference in power transfer. It's those kinds of small, expert tweaks that really add up. One of my favorite things: once you're a customer, you're always a customer. Husam told me to stop in anytime--for water, the bathroom, or even just to check tire pressure. That kind of low-key, no-pressure support is rare. If I ever buy another bike, I'd absolutely come here. And I highly recommend the fitting--it gives you measurements you can use on any bike going forward. read more

I contacted ATA Cycle because they were recommended as a shop familiar with Storck Bikes. I'm finishing a build and only needed a small but essential part--the hardware connecting the saddle to the seatpost. Since I hadn't heard back from Storck, I called ATA hoping for guidance or help sourcing the part. Instead, I got a two-minute conversation that managed to be both unhelpful and dismissive. They told me they don't carry spare parts--fine. But when I asked for help identifying the correct part or sourcing it, they simply repeated what I had already said, offered no direction, and quickly ended the call. At one point, I was even asked where I bought the bike, as if that determined whether the question deserved an answer. It's not the lack of parts that stands out--it's the lack of effort. If this is how they handle someone ready to spend money, it's hard to imagine how they handle actual problems. I'll take my business elsewhere--and suggest others do the same. read more

I struggled all day to get a new tubeless tire on my new carbon rims (first time doing this). Finally, I gave up and went into ATA Cycle telling them that they could charge me for setting up a tubeless wheel if they would get the tire on the rim. John and Drew couldn't have been nicer, and Drew had the technique I was missing, and had the tire on in 30 seconds. They wouldn't accept anything for their trouble. Now, how cool is that? I finally went to ATA cycles to see Husan under the recommendation from a friend of mine. I needed to fit my road bike again since I purchased it many years ago. Husan is an amazing person: very knowledgeable, professional, and personable. I enjoyed spending the time there for my fitting session and I had the opportunity to also learn so many new things. I will be picking up my fully fit bike in a few days and can't wait to ride it. I highly recommend anyone to take advantage of this fitting service, because it is probably the most important action you can take to make sure you can ride your bike for a long time without risking pain in your knees, back etc. I will post an updated review after I pick up my bike. read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS STORE FOR ANYTHING!! I went in for a fitting for my Pinarello F12. The bike stretched me too much, and asked Husam to change the integrated stem. He said it's not possible. He got me to buy one of his "old inventory "bikes I found out. He talked me into getting a rim brake bike and dura ace i12. He added the most expensive components, carbon wheels, saddle and shoes. The saddle hurt my butt and the shoes made my feet numb. He told me I'll get used to it. NOT. He didn't tell me that rim brake bikes are not being sold anymore and the dura ace he sold me where not produced any more. Just try getting parts. I have just been to a reputable site store in NY. They filled me in. The bike , wheels, drive train are all not produced any more. Everything is disk brakes. So basically Husam sold me his old inventory without telling me that I could not replace the parts, since they are no longer produced. The bike bike I paid 17k was not worth it. Definitely feel that I was ripped off. The store in NY also told me that they change out integrated stems often to shorten the reach. So I am getting SRAM drive train and need to also get new wheels since the hub didn't go with SRAM. Now I don't have to deal with plugging my bike in, just take off the battery and charge it. read more

I couldn't stay long because I had to catch my train at the Concord depot across the street, but as I was leaving the cycle shop she urged me to get a new helmet because she noticed mine was too old to provide much protection--good advice that I plan to to act on ASAP. I can't speak highly enough of Husam and ATA Cycle. I went to them for a fitting, and later to explore building a bike. My budget was less than what many of ATA's customers work with, but the team was able to build a bike that is both gorgeous and an absolute joy to ride. I left there with two finely tuned machines that actually fit my body perfectly. I went to see Husam a few months ago to get fit for my bike. He did a great job and is very knowledge about human anatomy and cycling. After adjusting my bike he suggested I make a few changed with some parts I had at home and after messing that up myself, he was willing to take me back in and help me out again. Went in because I hit a pot whole and got a double flat tire. They take $30 (the highest price I've ever heard of!) to change each tube, and did a terrible job (left the breaks unplugged, didn't tell me that one of my spokes broke, and didn't even fully pump the tires. In addition, they kept trying to made me buy new (expensive) tires, which felt very uncomfortable (at that point, I definitely did not want anything form these guys). I went a day after to my regular bike shop that I trust, and was told the tire is fine.. Advice - save money and arrogant attitude, and go to one of the stores closer to Boston if you can. read more

THE BEST bike shop you will ever go to - and that's a promise. I just drove 2 1/2 hours round trip what I thought was going to be just another bike fitting but Husam, the owner, made sure I walked out of ATA with much more. Other bike fittings I've done have taken 2-3 hours and I honestly didn't feel that different on the saddle than when I walked in. Husam finished the fitting and adjustments to my bike in about an hour AND I felt like a new person on the bike when we finished. You're getting access to instruments and machines you'd think would only be available to professionals, which means there isn't any guessing in his fitting, it's science. Husam diagnosed the cause of the kink in my pedaling stroke and showed me exercises I could do everyday to help get rid of it. He adjusted my hands in my riding position to take strain off my shoulders and arms, transitioning it into my core and thus giving me more stability in the saddle and power IMMEDIATELY. But most importantly, he made a human connection with me and I can't thank him enough. You will not regret making the trip out to ATA Cycle. read more

I first got fitted at ATA about a year ago and ended up buying my first road bike pretty soon after. Long story short the experience was excellent. The bike was exactly what I needed after spending years on bikes that were either too big or had mismatched components that screwed up my ride. I had ignored these problems for way too long and ended up with back pain that I thought would keep be off the bike for good. Not only was the fitting a delight (they were very patient with my many questions and clearly knew the science behind what they were doing), but were more than happy to work with me to switch of the seat-post for one with zero offset. It's now the height of summer and I love my bike, which is still going strong. For those in the market for a new bike and a fitting I highly recommend. read more

I stopped by the ATA store on July 1st (2022). I decided to go on the 40 miles from Concord, MA, and when i started to pedal when heard some creaking noise. I tried to figure out where it was coming from and could not do that on the road. So I was thinking ill stop by the "professional" bike store and asked if they can take a look ( and i was willing to pay even if they couldn't figure out what it is and look). When i got to the ATA Cycles store, the salesperson and owner Husam was there. I told them about my issue and the first question that Husam asked me was who put my bike together - "I said i did it myself", his answer was "That is a problem and that's why my bike makes creaking noise if it's getting worse bring your bike to us". It was a joke, after telling me that I can't assemble my bike together he asked me to bring it there. NO WAY. It was shocking at first to hear an insult like that from the store owner, they are only willing to help you if you spending money in their store. By the way, when I got home and checked my bike i didn't have enough grease in my hub, so I added grease and all noises went away. Husam is not the only person on earth who knows how to put bikes together. Suppose you are in the area AVOID this store and save your time. read more

Do not go to this bike store for repair. The first time I went there is to repair a flat tire. They gave me a quote of $20 but they charge me $40 when I went to pick up my bike. I thought that is fine. At least they repair my flat tire. The second time I went there for repair a loose bolt on my rear wheel. They gave me a quote of $20 again but they charged me $50. I paid them without any doubt but when I checked my bike the issue was not solved. They said they have done their best so they have to charge me and no refund is possible. read more

I went down with 2 bikes to be fit. After the initial measurements were done and I rode on them with the sensors on me to take the angles and check fit, I was told neither of my bikes could be fit to me. My gravel bike was so close that I was not willing to accept that. A set back seat post, a short reach bar and I nailed it. Had to do it myself as he wouldn't ! Lye number 1. Then for my road bike. Not so clos. So I had them build me one. I had to argue about breaks. I was not happy at all getting starte. He processed to tell me how much the bike was costing to build and what a deal he was giving. Lye number 2. I have built all my mt bikes and I knew exactly wat that bike was costing to build including labor. Anyway I bout it when finished. The fit was great not going to was it wasn't, accept the bars. I know my body numbers and it was 4cm wide. I hated them and they caused me pain. Made an appointment to have them changed and when I got there with a scheduled appointment I was told I had to leave it. I had 42 cm bars. I asked for 38cm bars. When I went back a week later he came out said it was all set. I could see right off it hadn't been touched! More lies. I got home and measured them called back and he continued to lie as well as insult my intelligence! Insisting that he gave me my 38cm bars. They did nothing. Tried selling me a seat that was to large for me. Front wheel is missing a cap that I can't get from them. Unless you are a fool with an endless bank account I would stay away! I was in dire need of a bike fit, but so many places aren't giving them right now. I called up ATA Cycle and they got me in right away. He explained all of the steps as we were going through them and gave me tips on how to improve my cycling. He first took all of my measurements and tested my flexibility. Then, he set up this bike he had that allowed him to make adjustments to my fit as I rode. This bike also tracked my power output and he provided feedback on that as well. Ultimately, this fit took about an hour 45 minutes total, which is half the time of any other fit I've had. I was amazed at how much my bike settings changed and how it felt like I lost half my body weight. All of my pressure points were gone. I love how he told me if I had any problems with the fitting, I can just call them back. I was highly impressed with the knowledge, the ease of the fitting, and how comfortable he made me feel throughout the whole process. The website had me a little intimidated, but the owner made me feel right at home. It was a great experience. read more

I'm going to begin this review with the admission that I did not read through the other reviews very deeply, so in some sense, I have only myself to blame. That said, this shop is extremely expensive for even routine work. First, let me provide some context. I have been a cyclist since the mid-1980s and I have owned a lot of bikes, most of them high end, and many of them handmade by some of the best-known frame-builders in the world. I recently relocated to MA from the Bay Area, a part of CA not known for affordability. I brought 3 bikes with me, each boxed and shipped to me and each requiring minimal reassembly to finish. Again, to provide context, I took all three bikes to a local shop in Cupertino, CA that charged me $75 per bike to pack them up in boxes, which they provided. One of the bikes required a full build, as I hadn't yet gotten around to completing it and wanted it done before moving. The build labor for that was $350, which included the entire drivetrain, headset, saddle/seatpost, and some cantilever brakes. I brought that recently built bike to ATA as a pilot, to see if I might want to continue patronizing the shop for my other bikes and to establish a relationship with a LBS here in MA. Upon retrieving the bike, they (1) had forgotten to remove 2 of the spacers as requested, (2) forgot to install the brand new Phil's skewers in the hubs, and (3) had to quickly address both while I waited. Fortunately, that only took them a combined 10 minutes. For all this, they rang up a charge of $300! Remember, I paid $75 to have the bike packed, a bike that cost me $350 to be built up in its entirety. When I asked what they could have possibly done for $300, the answer was, "Well what do you think it should cost?" When I explained what I paid to have the bike completely built and packed, they knocked $100 off. Candidly, even what I paid them is still just egregious, especially when all they had to do was the $75 packing job in reverse. Other reviewers have said things like don't go here unless you have very deep pockets, or words to that effect. I think of it this way: don't go here if you value fairness and don't want to get ripped off. I remain on the lookout for a good and honest LBS here, as I will never be returning to this shop. read more

These people are borderline criminals the way they conduct business. Couple of weeks ago I stopped at Dunks and got a couple things and was going to adjust my headset on my Cannondale that has less than 100 miles on it. I saw Ata was open so I opted to have them adjust it while I ate the Dunks stuff thinking at best it would be $10-$15 dollar adjustment (cause the night before I'd got a whole bike tune-up quote for my Giant for $100....and places in the past have charged that for minor quick adjustments). The woman attempted to adjust it for about 2 minutes while dealing with other customers on the sidewalk (Covid-19) and then she wheeled it inside and passed it off to someone as I couldn't see inside and wasnt not allowed in. I checked the time. As she wheeled my bike in the owner also walked in and this other customer said " did you hear him ? " and I said " I dont make it a policy of listening in on others conversations ".....and he said " I just told him I was going to try biking out and bought this inexpensive older Trek bike for next to nothing and I wanted to get some biking clothes. And he says hes got some good bike shorts for $300 and if he could just get his credit card hed get them for him. I dont want no $300 bike shorts.....and if I did pay $300 I'd like to see them first. " and then he asked me if I knew of any other honest bike shops in the area. I just said " there is a few around " (had I known what Ata's owner was about to do to me.....I would have told him to go to anywhere except them)....and now it was my turn to be raped financially by the owner of Ata's . He wheels my near new bike out 8 minutes later and says " we adjusted the headset . But these Cannondales are difficult. And this bike needs work too. The front brakes are shot. And the bike needs a whole tune-up " and I said " it does ? The bike is a 2019 with less than 100 miles on it. (at this point i know hes a liar .....and when the woman earlier learned i had 8 bikes she said " we'd like to get your work " .....so at this point I want to be done with this crooked liar..) So what do I owe you ? " and here it is folks .....for 8 minutes worth of work...and possibly one headset shim collar (had 2 in my handbag with 2-tri Allen wrenches).......' $40.00 ' I was like " what !!!!...$40.00 dollars !!!! " Now.....I wanted to really be done with this thief. They never mentioned one dime......came out in those 8 minutes hiding in the store and told me what it would cost.....zip ......and $40.00.......Do the math on that.....its $300.00 an hour....and collars are 4 -$3.95 and they never asked nothing.....said nothing....Then I peel off the $40.00 and the owner walks off with my money.......and I dont even get a slip......reciept.....nothing. He just put it in his pocket and walked off. I'm standing there shaking my head that these are the people that just moments before ' wanted my business ' I would.....and would suggest. That no one do business with this weasel. He had this attitude almost like he was entitled to have open access to your wallet and charge whatever he felt like cause he is some sort of a bike guru or something. As far as I am concerned. Hes a thief and I should have called the police for gouging during a pandemic.....or just in general. Stay away from this clown. If your not a C.E.O. of a fortune 500 company and dont mind him just pilfering your bank account or credit card. Go anywhere...but here. I've dealt with bike shops from R.I. to Maine.....dozens in Mass......and I have never seen the likes of how this place takes advantage of potential or customers. read more

In 2016, I called ahead of time to make sure they would strip the bike and grease it everywhere if I paid the assembly charge. The employee on the phone agreed. I dropped off my new bike and again stated I was paying for it to be greased, again he agreed. When I picked up my bike, the owner said they hadn't done the work we agreed on, charged me $90 bike to "assemble" a mongoose that was 90% assembled already. Basically I was charged 90 bucks for 5 minutes of work. They wasted my time, lied to me and stole money, I have told every cyclist in town I meet to avoid this rip off artist. This is my favorite bike shop in the country. I have tried to find other ones closer to where I live but there is nothing that compares. I fly up here from Florida to have my bikes built. I have bought two bikes here and the process is very consistent. The staff is very welcoming. At first I was intimidated going in there but they made me feel at ease right away. Man I love this place. I entered this shop for the first time a couple of years ago, knowing absolutely nothing about cycling. A year later I was legitimately competing in a half Ironman, thanks in large part to these guys. A year after that I was going significantly faster still, due to subsequent fittings by Husam and Shrey. Every time I go in for advice or a small adjustment or tune up, I can't believe amazing my bike feels, and how much more FUN it is to ride. If you want some real advice and proper fitting (not just "How tall are you? Here.") then this is the place for you. They are true experts, down to the most subtle adjustments and the coolest technology. You don't have to be about to ride the Tour de France to shop here. Whether you are looking for a truly comfortable ride without a sore back, or are competing at Kona, this is the only place. I look for excuses just to stop by and say hi to my new friends. I grew up borrowing road bikes and wanted to get a custom bike for myself, and was referred to Husam and ATA Cycle by a friend. Not only did Husam and his staff kindly walk me through all of my newbie questions, the fitting equipment they have is top notch. It seemed like each motion of my body movement was considered to create a bike that generated maximum power and minimum strain on my body. They worked with me to create a bike that fit my budget, although fair warning this hobby isn't cheap. All things considered, I know I got a great deal. So excited to start riding and eventually be a long-term customer! It seems like other customers in the store were long-time clients of Husam. I just purchased my third bike (I have previously purchased a Scott tri bike and this was my second Look road bike) from Husam, the owner of ATA Cycle in Concord, MA. Coincidently, I found ATA Cycle almost 10 years ago when I happened to flat out almost right in front of their shop. Since that time, Husam and his knowledgeable and friendly staff (Shrey, Andy, Drew, & Gurcell; sorry if I missed anyone) have never let me down when it comes to buying and/or servicing a high quality bike. Husam's knowledge of both bikes and human anatomy is amazing. But, most importantly, it's his knowledge of how the two should ideally work together that is his special talent. Of course the shop has all of the latest technology that's needed for a proper bike fit, but Husam has the unique ability for making the subtle adjustments to both bike and rider that really serve to customize a bike fit to the needs and anatomy of each individual rider. I have benefited first hand from Husam's experience as a professional bike fitter and bike builder as he has really helped to overcome some of my recent physical problems to keep me comfortable on the bike. The shop is also a great place to buy all of your other cycling gear such as shoes, helmets, gloves, electronics, etc. The selection is great and everything is from high quality makers such as: Shimano, Garmin, Assos, Zipp, etc. So whether you're a seasoned bike rider or someone just getting started in the sport, I highly recommend and strongly encourage you to pay a visit to ATA Cycle in Concord, MA for a truly first class and fun experience! read more

ATA Cycle helped assemble a brand new bike that I ordered online for me, putting it together and delivering it to me in a very timely manner. I asked about adding pedals to the bike (bike did not come with them), which they very kindly offered to do for me at no additional cost (thanks again!). I received great and friendly customer service from Shrey, who delivered the bike to me at a convenient time for me both the first time it was dropped off and ~1 month later after getting a complimentary 30 day tune up (typical practice for new bikes at bike shops). The staff was knowledgeable and polite. Bike stores are a lot busier these days, but ATA is handling the volume well. I was so happy I could get my bike tire fixed the same day (I went on a weekday early afternoon) and have time to go out on the trail. The tread was warped and needed to be replaced; the new one works well and the price for parts and labor was reasonable. The staff was responsible about wearing masks when with customers, staying 6 feet apart from us, and having hand sanitizer by the door. My husband also bought a bike that day, and got great service. We've both ridden our bikes since then and are really happy with them. read more

About 15 years ago at age 50, I had given up running and was looking for another sport with less impact on my legs. A friend suggested cycling and pointed me to ATA Cycle. I bought my hybrid bike from ATA as a way to get into cycling. In a very short period, I was hooked riding as much as 40+ miles on my hybrid. From that point to now, the folks at ATA have suggested numerous equipment upgrades which have improved my cycling ability and brought endless hours of joy on the roads. I have brought a number of friends and co-workers to ATA and they have all thanked me on a number of occasions for introducing them to Husam and his staff. It is no surprise to me and many other highly satisfied customers that ATA was voted the best road bike shop in the country last year by the national cycling community. First, a few alternatives to this one-star shop: Local - Pedal Power in Acton High end - Apex Velo in Newton Multiple stores - Landry's Mountain bikes - Centraal in Beverly or JRA cycles in Medford Disclose since Yelp flagged my review as containing promotional content: Please note that I have no affiliation with any of the stores listed, other than patronizing them with my business. It is not intended to be promotional material. ...between those five options there is no need to visit crappy bike shops. Now, my most recent bad experience: With Yelp reviews trending upward, I thought I'd give them another shot. Shopped by to buy a POC helmet. This younger kid "helping" wouldn't put his phone down to give me his undivided attention despite an easy ~$260 sale. He, ultimately, told me they don't stock any mountain bike helmets and didn't know where I could find one. He put zero effort into looking (I've since gone to Cannondale in Natick - their POC inventory is about 10-12x that of ATA and they were awesomely helpful). On top of it, I've heard rumors that they'll swap out (aka steal) expensive parts from ignorant cyclists bikes. Total rumor but based on my experiences with the store, their Yelp reviews, and the general inexperience of their target audience, it wouldn't surprise me in the least. I wonder how many $15k bikes rolling out of their shop have an alternate seat post or other inconspicuous replacement. I'm shocked people have good experiences here as I'm zero for 6+ visits. (Minor update: upon further review of the glowing comments, I suspect the company is posting fake reviews and was saddened to see the company response to the review from 2010 in which they shift blame back to the customer and bring up unrelated items in a seemingly lame attempt to character bash her. This might also explain why they only link to Google Reviews, which is less aggressive about scanning for fraud, on their site and not Yelp.) Having grown up on the area and now living in town for over a decade I wish this place would just go out of business so a legit store could just move in here. read more

Review for the fitting service: About two weeks ago, on one of those 90+ degree days, I was out on a ride and noticed some serious clunking coming from my back tire. I stop, look, and realize that the tire has decided to turn itself into an "S". Great. Closest shop was Ata and I knew I wasn't going to make it home so I stopped and I am so glad I did. The guy at the front desk confirmed my assumption that I was just asking for a blow out if I rode it home that way and helped me find a replacement tire. In the meantime he'd somehow looked at me standing next to my bike (not even on my bike) and realized that something in the fit really wasn't adding up he went and grabbed Husam from the back. He couldn't believe how bad my fit was. I was skeptical seeing as how I'd just bought the bike in April and had a professional fitting at that point from someone who that shop said was an expert in working with people with injuries and joint problems like me. I knew I was slow and in a good bit of pain this season but I have a pretty bad injury so I figured that's what it was and that my bike fit must be fine since a reputable shop had done it. But everything Husam said was right on the money -- "I bet your back hurts here." - Yes, "You have issues with this when you hit a hill " - yes and on and on. Everything he said mirrored exactly how I was feeling and how my performance had been impacted since getting this bike. Now I'm intrigued, so he showed me all the really cool tools he has to work with like the video camera with with the markers that go on your hip, knee and ankle to show all of the angles. He offered to fit me in for a fitting right then, and how could I not at least give it a try? The new fit is amazing. I couldn't believe just how off the other shop had it. He watched me ride for about 20 seconds, had me stop, moved my saddle way up and more forward. He checked the new angles with his video capture and it was dead on. Just like that - one try and he had it perfect. It took me a good two days worth of riding to get used to the new positions, but now that I am I'd never go back. My back doesn't hurt, my knee feels better, I have way more power on hills. It's great!! Ata is definitely the place to go for a great fitting! read more

ATA has vindicated the bike shop industry for me. As much as I love cycling, and enjoy ogling bike shop goods, I always dread bike shops' notoriously poor service. ATA doesn't just raise the bar for bike shop service, it defines an entirely new category. I discovered ATA while looking for a bike fitter to help my wife, who is new to cycling. I've been through 3 prior fittings, including one by a nationally prominent shop, but none compared to the care, diligence and knowledge displayed by Husam. This was especially important for my wife, who was nervous just being in a real bike shop. When I went back for my own session, he immediately saw that my bike was way too large. I was initially skeptical, because the bike came recommended by a previous fitting session, but when my power went up 30 watts from my existing position to an idealized fit my hesitancy evaporated. People work all year to add 30 watts of power, and Husam did it in two hours! I ultimately ended up buying a gorgeous Museeuw MC-2 equipped with SRAM Force. Once again, Husam and the ATA staff showed amazing attention to every aspect of the buying experience. I'm far from being a wealthy person, and as a triathlete-turned-cyclist, I'll be hitting the races as Cat V this year. ATA staff helped me find a build that fit both my aspirations and my budget. The end product is both beautiful to look at and a blast to ride. I honestly don't think I could ever buy a bike anywhere else after my experience at ATA, and I know I won't let anyone else touch my fit. I went in for brake pads once, found the ones I needed (yellow swiss-stop for carbon rims) no price tag on the box, nothing on the shelf/hanger. The guy offers to cut me a deal because I seem like a nice guy; I pay and go on my way, no time to double check on my phone at the time... I go online the next day, turns out I paid 200% MSRP. Awesome. Another time I went in for Brake Cables, which were maybe $10 MSRP, the sales guy tried to upsell me to a $1000 Tacx i-Magic VR trainer system and was very persistent about it. Haven't been back in over 3 years, not worth the hassle and 'deals'. They do have some very exotic carbon in stock though. read more

Best bike shop in Greater Boston. First off, I am not a pro rider or competitive racer. Road biking is my favorite non-winter activity and I ride about 1,500 miles a season. I say this up front b/c some may get the mistaken impression that ATA is only for hardcore racers/triathletes which it is not. This store is for people that are passionate about cycling at all levels. I have been riding the same Trek for 9+ years and decided it was time for a change, but I had a limited budget (less than $4K). Husam worked patiently with me on getting a proper fit and made some other recommendations around shoes and pedals. In the end, I got a great carbon road bike that fits me very well and has reinvigorated my interest in cycling and within my budget. I had a few break-in adjustments on my new bike and just dropped by and they fixed them while I waited, compared to other stores that may make me wait a day or two for a repair to be completed. I have been to plenty of other Greater Boston cycling shops and have had mixed results both in terms of sales/service, but my experience with ATA from start to finish has been outstanding. You probably buy a new bike less frequently than you buy a new car, so it makes sense to take the time to find the bike that works for you and for that reason I highly recommend ATA Cycle-you will not be disappointed. read more

There is no question that certain bicycle stores are better suited to providing expert service, and ATA obviously stands out as a store that seeks to help each customer achieve cycling bliss. The staff of ATA Cycle are professional, capable, amiable, and inspired. For example, on a walk-in basis I had shims installed in my cycling shoe cleats to increase the stack height on my short leg. Not only did Andy have the SpeedPlay hardware, he also noticed that the "long-enough" special screws - that another shop had used - were actually too long, and if not replaced my cleats would not have remained properly anchored to my cycling shoes, given that the screws were backing off the base plate causing the shim to rocker back and forth. Anticipating a separate visit to ATA Cycle, I called ahead for an appointment with Husam. I underwent my fourth bike fit of my life. But nothing in my past three bike fits had been quite so complete. Most notable was the detail that Husam exercised. He works with his mind focused - and with his spirit open to scientific discovery. Husam uses a system which measures the respective power-output of various identified muscle groups, differentiated for left- or right-side contribution to net power output, during the course of the subject's test pedaling in the lab. Husam's system captures quantitative outputs, indexed to incremental modifications that he makes of your body's position on the bicycle, in real-time while you pedal. As mentioned, this fit involved a noteworthy attention to detail: Husam was not just writing down some numbers, using a set of calipers, or waiving a measuring tape. Indeed, Husam was able to identify a fundamental asymmetry based on my cadence, which later proved (based on subsequent consultations with a professional sports-medicine podiatry doc) to relate to a leg-length discrepancy issue. My meeting with Husam represented the start of a long-distance journey toward achieving better mobility, and safer cycling, as I embark on middle age. Magical bike fit, built to order. Different bike shops are good at different things. Many big shops have inventory that they will try and fit to their customers, but ATA focuses on fit and custom builds. ATA has what I've found to be the most sophisticated technology and tools for fitting a customer, and a staff that's got deep knowledge of how to use it to its fullest extent. After an in-depth set of measurements of a new customer, and then some tests of flexibility, riding position, and pedal stroke, they then work with him/her on their equipment to find out exactly how to build the best fitting bike for that person. It's like going to a fine tailor, rather than buying clothes off the rack. And it works. A bike you get from ATA promises to be more comfortable and faster than anything you'd buy complete. They'll work with your needs and your budget to get you rolling on something you'll never want to stop pedaling. So, for a race bike or a high-end road bike, it's a different approach than you'll get elsewhere, but the end result is fabulous. A few weeks ago, I just picked up my first bike from them, a new cyclocross race bike. Immediately after hopping on it for a test ride, the fit was perfect. After a week, I can't go back to my old road bike (which i've logged 300 miles on this year) - though ATA has offered to re-fit me for it, which I'm taking them up on. If you've been riding for a while, you'll know that fit is maybe the most important part of buying a bike, so give them a try, even for a bike that you already own. read more

I went to ATA cycle a 4 years ago after a poor bike fit session at another cycle shop for a Tri bike. Upgrading to a Tri bike was going to be a large investment and I wanted to make sure I did it right. I was immediately impressed with Husam's bike fit process that is a scientific based process vs, just "does this feel ok". It was my first time on a tri bike and Husam worked to determine what bike geometry was the best fit for my body and offer the most power. I think this is where his process differentiates from other fitter. He built my Cervelo based on my measurements from the fit process. It was such a good fit that I was comfortable riding the bike immediately (even having never been on a Tri bike in an aero position) and my third time riding the bike was in a race and I took 1st in my age (even in the pouring rain). Was completely confident on the bike. This past season I was training for my first Ironman and my bike seat dropped on a ride. I took it into Husam and he immediately noticed that the configuration was different (without me even telling him) he quickly put the bike on the fit platform and pulled up my measurements to reset my fit....and adjust it based on how I've changed as a rider to a more aggressive position. He worked with me for over 2 hours to make sure the fit was correct as we adjusted right before my race. I was able to get much more power on the bike and realized I should be stopping in more often see Husam! With that new position I dropped 35 minutes on the race course about 2 weeks later from earlier training rides - a testament to his process and expertise! Husam and his team have a critical eye when it comes to bikes and the bike fit process. They are knowledgeable and I always learn something new when I go in there....and they are always able to answer any question. I'll also note I brought my road bike in for a fit and again, Husam immediately picked up that I had fallen on the bike (again without me saying anything) and that the bar fit was off even before I was on the bike for the fit - I had just gotten it tuned up at another bike shop and that place didn't even pick up on that. Husem quickly adjusted the fit so that I was again getting more power when riding and fixed my bars. I would highly recommend ATA for even your tune ups.
