Nice enough employees, nice bike shop. I brought my bike in for a new shifter because it was hard to change gears, you could feel the grinding with attempts to shift. I was told that the cable was too tight, chain was stretched out and the cassette was worn down. I insisted it was the shifter and he insisted that his diagnosis was correct. I did as he suggested and got the bike back within a week. Two weeks later the shifter had a complete failure. I bought and installed the new one. While I was tweaking all the gears I observed a chain rub on my rear derailleur, a google search and cross reference identified the chain rub as a chain that was too long. They are nice enough people and I was sold on the engineering background, but they lost a customer. read more

Craig is exactly what you hope. A kind and very competent owner/enthusiast. Had a problem on my ride earlier today. Handle bars basically fell off on Nagog Hill (cracked outer coupling of bracket that secures bars to stem) . Managed to ride to CK Bikes but arrived about an hour before open. Tons of tools outside attached to wall and free waters for the taking (nice touch). Craig arrives about 45 mins before scheduled opening and treats me like a long time customer. Offer free parts and assistance. After a slightly more complicated fix I insisted on paying him something and said I needed "stuff" to force him to open register. He agrees to a measly fee, and rings me up. Finisher of multiple Ironman events, he knows bikes. Shop has everything from fat boy tire bikes, slick road bikes, and hi end TTs. Excellent service. I stopped by with a minor but annoying issue on my etrike. The screws attaching the display screen kept falling out or needing to be tightened several times per ride. I thought I'd need an appointment because they were so busy but I was given immediate assistance. He looked at the piece that kept coming apart, understood the problem, grabbed some longer screws and lock tight, HE FIXED IT! Sent me on my way able to enjoy my ride again. On top of that, if he can fix it on the spot and I don't have to leave it with him he won't charge me even if I offer. When I have dropped it off, CK hooked me up with the best tires. Easily the best bike shop in the area. I have a bike shop closer to my home but I always go to CK Bikes. To say that I sometime question my belief in humanity is an understatement, until I walked into CK Bikes in Littleton Ma. THE WORLD DOES HAVE HOPE!!! I stopped by CK on a chance that may be they would be able to help me out with a bike issue I had as I was building a bike for my son. I was stuck, confused and down and out thinking I would be able to surprise my son with his dream bike. Then I met Craig. The owner. A gentleman. A true professional. The warm embrace I received walking through the doors was like going to your buddies house on Friday night to play cornhole and chat about the problems of the week over a cold beverage. I chatted for a bit with Craig and he instantly stopped everything he was doing to teach and coach me on the bike I had just purchased. Craig spent a half hr talking to me about what was wrong and how WE could fix it. That's right WE. Craig told me what was going on and handed me the tools. With his calm manner and Nichelback playing in the background he patiently hung around me as I adjusted the disk brakes, centered the brakes and fix the bike, on my own. We chatted as if we were buddies from college who hadn't seen each other in few years all the while coaching me on the proper way to fix the bike. After WE had completed the fix, he handed me a few valve stem adapters for the new style value stem because I had no idea about them and said " ok Jeremy your good to go. Hope your son enjoys his new bike and thanks for telling me the story behind it". I turned to him and said "how much do I owe you" and his response is why there is hope in this world. "You don't owe me anything, it was good talking with you". That's it. That's all. Craig did t want anything more than to teach his trade to someone who would listen and learn. A true visionary with a desire to make the world a better place. I bought a Gatorade for 1$ and left a 19$ tip and took my bike and I was on my way. I walked out of CK Bikes and the sky was a bit brighter, traffic didn't seem so bad, the music on radio seemed clearer and my whole attitude changed. CK BIKES made my day, week, month and year. During a pit stop in Concord on our Havard-to-Havard ride, we ran to another rider who told us about the great bike shop in Littleton where they kept the faucet on outside for bikers to refill their water. As it turned out, a mile from Littleton and ~30 miles away from home, the rear rack on my bike sheared off. With the rack grating against my rear tire, I found CK Bikes like an oasis shimmering in the desert. The crew at CK Bikes is awesome. Seeing my situation, they jumped me ahead of their other jobs to add the rack and re-install the panniers. I also noted how super attentive they were to details even on something simple like a rear rack, telling me "hey, I'm doing this like how I'd want my own bike repaired." For example, they noticed that the screws were super old and had signs of rust, so they oiled them before trying to loosen. In the case of the arms holding the rack to the frame, they opted to keep old ones in place out of concern that the screws might tear off. I appreciated the thoughtfulness and extra care. Beyond great service, it was a lot of fun shooting the breeze with the team as they fixed my bike. I got to see about a dozen customers come in and out while my bike was being fixed, and they likewise all got the same friendly, caring, expert treatment. Great shop and great team. I'll admit I'm not a regular, but he saved me today with an oddball tool I needed to help with a chain replacement that went sideways on me. I casually mentioned over email afterwards that I was going to be attempting a cassette replacement next. Rather than simply replying "good luck," he invited me in to do it there to help answer any questions. So nice of him, as I'm sure he realized I hadn't bought my replacement parts from him. I highly recommend CK Bikes. Not one bike shop near me could fix a flat tire in a day or less, either they didn't have them in stock or it would take 3-5 days. So I drove 40 min away to CK Bikes and they fixed it on the spot, in and out in 15 minutes and very reasonably priced. So I discovered my cables/housings had rotted over the winter and I lost the ability to shift over the period of a few rides after work. I knew it wasn't the shifter because I had replaced my front derailleur cable last weekend. (not easy to discover considering this bike is only 1 year old and kept inside warm and dry all year). I already knew the other derailleur cable was probably rotten/oxidized too. I walked in at around 5:00 PM on a Wednesday evening and asked how busy they were, and if it would be possible to squeeze in a new cable/housing. They were able to accommodate my request and charged a very fair rate for the materials and labor. The value here was not them being able to do the job, but the fact that they were able to do it right then and there. This was valuable to me because it meant I didn't have to go order parts, then wait a few days, then waste time installing them myself while trying to juggle a toddler, wife and 9 year old at the same time. I was able to change up and be on my bike by 5:24 PM. To me this was worth double what they charged. So that's what I paid. They had also recently cut me a deal on a Brooks saddle that I found in the shadows on an old shelf. So considered a tip or a P.I.A surcharge, it was well worth it. read more

This place is great! I was on a business trip, but had my bike with me so I could keep training for a 50-mile ride coming up the following weekend. However, during one of my rides, I took a spill and bent my rear rim! Found CK Bikes and they were able to look at my bike that afternoon! They fixed it up super quick, then even showed me how to adjust my breaks and clip shoes and gave me all sorts of tips for how to ride better.
