There's a lot of old negative reviews, so I'm feeling the need to add my 2 cents. The team here works so hard to help you find the right bike for your kiddo. They size them and have a test lot out back to ensure comfort and fit for their needs. Their pricing is probably higher or on par with other spots, but it's the price you pay for the level of focused customer service. With that said, a few notes to be aware of: - they do not carry Trek (space limitations) - it will take time. I figured we'd be in and out, but it's a smaller space so it takes a bit of patience to maneuver within - budget an hour or so if you have a confident rider and know what you want, more if tentative - the folks all seemed like they were working their darnedest to keep everyone happy and taken care of - you don't get that every where nowadays. There were 2-3 families each time we dropped by, so it's a hidden local gem. Help keep our communities local and visit spots like this instead of the big box retailers. read more

At Wheelworks you never know what you are going to get I have had the best, friendliest, most knowledgeable people help me with purchases, fittings, and service. But they completely messed up shipping my bike to California for a long distance trip (I gave specific directions for the date it needed to arrive - they let my bike sit in the shop for three days and then shipped it the slowest possible way - it did NOT ARRIVE IN TIME FOR MY TRIP!!) They took NO responsibility for any of this. Sometimes they act as if you count for nothing if you are not a "serious" cyclist. I've been ignored, demeaned, talked down to, walked away from. You never know what you are going to get! read more

Bought a kids bike at Somerville store and it had an issue in the first week so they told me to bring it to kids store at 22 Church to fix. An older lady came out to help and I explained the situation and the emails I had sent back and forth. She asks for my last name and I told her then spelled it for her (I'm middle eastern). She starts chuckling and says "some of the names I have to deal with." I was a bit taken aback and said "excuse me?" and she turned around and walked back in to the store. A younger gentleman ended up helping me and he was great and I had no issues. In these times for people to continue to be so unaware of how offensive they can be (to a customer no less) shouldn't be surprising, but I guess I'm naive. I read previous reviews before posting mine (always do that to keep me sober) and noticed some very poor reviews from a few years back. The attitude and service provided by staff seemed to be a major sticking point with previous reviewers. However, I will say that we received good service. It's not easy overall when the buyer is 4-5 years old. Our son had his biases:) and opinions and we had ours. After pointing out a couple of decent bikes, the GM did pivot to a different customer but that's because we were thinking and analyzing. When we had more questions we waited for another employee to be free and asked more of them. We did this 3 or 4 times which didn't bother me. They were busy and trying to make many customers happy and we were in no rush. Se finally bought a used bike. For his first bike our son didn't need the latest and greatest. The important things are fit, comfort and safety. Be forewarned that prices here for new bikes are 40-50% over Amazon prices. So we bought used - our used price was a bit lower than the new price on Amazon. I'm sure they made a decent gross margin on the trade in. But the convenience and help you get from a local shop swayed us a bit too. We would certainly go back - I may not pay 40-50% over larger store prices but for used, items that aren't too pricey and perhaps the occasional new bike that is priced only 20% above online, I'd buy. In 2017 we have to face reality that kids bikes mass produced wherever (China etc) are going to be sold much cheaper online. However, as consumers we have to put some value on service (they'd certainly service a bike purchased there if something were amiss), proximity and advice (and buying local to a reasonable point). Wheelworks Too does a good job - at least with the staff on duty in June 2017 (not sure about those prior employees - I'm sure retail part time positions attract some interesting people)! read more

I came up from NYC and rented a bike from them for the Hub-on-Wheels Boston cycling event. They sent it to their sister shop Ace Wheelworks because that was nearer to the place I was staying. The bike was perfect, in great condition, fully equipped with a saddle bag and a spare tube. The folks were courteous and knowledgable. Only reservation I have is that because I rented it on line and picked it up at the Ace store, they couldn't give me a proper receipt when I returned the bike-- I pressed and got a handwritten scrawl which will have to do. read more

Damn! Took my son in here to buy a toddler bike helmet and was met by the snarkiest two sales reps ever. This is a critical piece of safety equipment for any child, and having people working there who cannot even be bothered to point out the helmets that are the right size is beyond bad service and into the realm of unethical conduct. Worse, three out of the five helmets in the brand we finally chose had a manufacturing defect (a bent composite rear strap) that made it impossible to place the helmet low and tight on his head. After we had allowed him to pick his own color (blue), and went to fit it on his head so he could wear it home, we discovered the defect. When my wife went in to exchange the helmet for a non-defective one, she saw the sales rep put the defective blue helmet, plus the two other defective ones, back on the sales rack. Ummmmm, no. Advertising this place for children is deceptive and just wrong. Do not bring your kids here, if you want them to be safe and happy on the road! read more

Recently, I was in the market for bikes for my young sons. After doing some research, I found the model I wanted. I called around to several bikes shops in the area, checking for availability and prices. Belmont Wheelworks told me they had it in stock at their "Wheelworks Too" location. I called there and they confirmed they had several in stock and quoted a price of $180 each. I drove down and waited patiently until a salesman was free - it turned out to be the employee I spoke with on the phone. He showed me the bikes and they were indeed in stock. But the price was $190. I asked about the price and he told me that it wasn't his fault - someone else in the store told him it was $180 - he didn't check it himself. He refused to honor the quoted price, instead telling me how little money they made on these bikes (uh huh) and how there was no wiggle room. He continued telling me stories of other customers that tried to haggle and what a waste of time it was. I pointed out that I wasn't haggling - just asking him to honor the quoted price after driving well out of my way to their location. He refused and didn't even offer an apology for my wasted trip. Terrible experience, terrible service and a waste of time&gas. I recommend avoiding this shop and pick one of the many others in the greater boston area. read more

I have been to Wheelworks and Wheelworks Too at least 3 times in the past few months looking for a used roadbike. On this last visit, the guy working pulled me over to the computer and told me to buy a bike on ebay. He then went on to show me the bikes on ebay. Then he showed me one of the used ones and told me that I don't need it. Good way to pick up a customer. I have bought a bike here before... but probably never again. i just had an unfortunate experience with someone on the phone there. i was given the run-around from all three wheelworks stores about whether they had a particular item in stock. however the employees at the other two stores were at least extremely friendly and cordial. when i was directed to call the wheelworks too store, the person i spoke with was rude and combative when i expressed confusion over being tossed around each store location only to find that none of them had the item i was looking for. i know retail can be difficult and exasperating most of the time, as someone who works retail myself. but this experience left me never wanting to do business with wheelworks employees again. read more

So at the recommendation of a number of people that I know I decided to make the trek out to Wheelworks Too to get an idea of the great deals that they have. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by the location. It really is a nice area to visit. The store on the other hand was a not so pleasant. When I walked in I was greeted and I was pleased with that but the employee gave me the impression that he was mad that he was helping me. I was hoping for a good selection of used bikes at reasonable prices and I found neither. their used selection was sparse and overpriced. I decided to give them a through once over and picked through the new bike offerings. I did not get any further "assistance" as I browsed. Some of the models that they have are at an ok price. They are a good option to consider if you want a good bike and also want to get a small discount. From what I noticed you shouldn't expect any great deals. I would not recommend this store to most people as you can go to a regular store, get the variety that you need and get proper service. The straight-Old model bikes and a couple that are used. What's good-nice area and good variety in discontinued models. The slap-overpriced used bikes. Poor service and just not worth it. read more

I've given this place a few chances and have been extremely disappointed with the service. I won't be coming back. My initial experience buying my road bike here was fine. I knew which bike I wanted and had previously been fitted, so the process was easy enough and I was happy to find my size in a discounted model from a prior year. However, my experience getting my bikes serviced here have been awful. My most recent experience highlights these experiences best. I brought my road bike in because the shifting cable broke inside the shifting box. While I was getting that serviced, I decided to get the tires put on my new tubeless setup since I know that can be a pain. After picking up my bike and new wheels, I went home and fully pumped up the new wheels, excited to use them on my tri rig. However, it became obvious at riding pressure there was a leak in the rear wheel. I brought rear wheel back and was told there was a "defect" with the tire bead (conveniently in the shape and location of where a lever would be used). Because I had brought tire (unused and unboxed) rather than purchasing it from the store, I was told I'd have to pay for a new tire. I was frustrated, but I did. My girlfriend picked up the wheel a couple days later. This time, the tire did hold pressure, but, as I was putting on my bike, I realized that the tire was installed in the wrong direction. I had to go back again to get it done right, and, to my surprise (although maybe I shouldn't have been at this point), the store charged me for the time and sealant to fix their mistake! When I brought this up, not a single attempt on their part to make it right. I love supporting local bike shops, but I can't bring myself to support this one given this service. Sharing this experience with a few friends has revealed a couple other horror stories and I would recommend to anyone looking for place to service their bike to choose somewhere else. read more

Summary: Lackadaisical attitude by the sales staff. The experience: visited twice in spring 2015, trying to pick up a bike for a 10-year-old. First time, a friendly man showed us a pretty decent Trek youth bike but it was right at closing time, so we agreed to come back. A week later, we went back, and could not for love or money get anyone to give us any attention. The nice man wasn't there, and after standing around for a while, being ignored by sales staff (they jumped on a couple of new customers who came in after we did), I approached a salesman who was super unhelpful. I said, "So would 24 inch be the right size for her?" and he said, "Whatever fits, is the right size." After a minute or two of this kind of non-answer, he suddenly went away with no explanation. I thought maybe he was going to get us a bike or something, but he never came back. Wondering if more bikes were coming in soon, I approached the guy behind the counter, who was wearing some kind of oxygen mask. His attitude was like, "What do you want?" I felt like saying, "Well, I wanted to buy a bike" but by now I was fed up so we just packed it in and left. We finally ended up at the Walmart, where we found a cute little girls bike for $80. It's not a Trek , but it's the right size, right price, in stock, and now we're all set for a couple of years. I doubt I'll be visiting Wheelworks again any time soon. I like to give local shops my business, to help keep them going, and to build a relationship, but these guys at Wheelworks Too seemed as though they DIDN'T WANT my business. They apparently have all the business they can handle, and polite, laid-back people like me are welcome to go elsewhere. Which we did. read more

I had a great experience today buying my 4-year-old son his first Big Boy Bike. The employee who helped us was friendly, knowledgeable, and super helpful. I walked in planning to buy a particular bike and he helped me understand the benefits of another bike that was more appropriate for my son's age and size. We had the bike picked out, training wheels and bell installed, and helmet fitted in probably 20 minutes. Both employees were great with my son - patient, friendly, and clearly used to young kids. I went there initially to try out a modified recumbent bike for my special needs son. The staff was wonderful to work with and very knowledgeable. I ordered a newer model of the same bike through them. The turn around time took just a few days. Returned with my son. They did a great job working with him and fitting him to his new bike, which he loves. No complaints from us. I don't see how it could have gone better. Of the shops I had called, they were the most accommodating from the start. The bike I initially tried out was at Wheelworks Too. The new one I ordered I picked up through there, then took it around the corner to Wheelworks where they adjusted it for my son. read more

Awesome shop. I've had a hard time trying to find a shop that understands all of my biking needs...not just one that they personally ride and understand (I'm speaking specifically about DH riding). I live in Salem, NH and literally drive all the way to Bedford (40 minutes) to do any major repairs and new bike purchases. I have also had some problems with my experiences (as you will no doubt have in any bike shop)...however, the way that they deal with issues and make things right always far outweighs the small inconveniences. We had an excellent experience here! After looking at several other stores, this place had the best selection, excellent customer service, and a range of prices. Andrew helped us try several bikes and even helped us with teaching strategies for our kids. The owner was a little less than friendly, but nothing that impacted our experience dramatically. Truth be told, I've never actually been to Wheelworks Too, but after today I plan to. I was biking from Arlington Center to Bedford on the Minuteman trail when my bike got a flat tire on the way back. After walking for more than an hour a kind man pulled over and offered to help. He had the bike flipped over and the tire out quick, replacing the tube with a much nicer one. Refusing any payment, David mentioned working here at Wheelworks Too and not only enjoyed bikes, but wanted others too as well. That's the type of person I would want working on my bike. Clearly I need to buy some tire repair bike equipment. Thanks again David. read more
