I had my eye on a bike for a week or so, before deciding to go ahead and order it online on Monday . Said "in stock" and available for pick up in Danvers Tuesday morning or seabrook Wednesday morning. (Danvers was closed Monday). I chose to pick up in seabrook Wednesday since we are in NH and couldn't get down to Danvers Tuesday anyway. My confirmation email said "ships from western cycle" to seabrook location. My receipt was from the Danvers location. I got a call Tuesday at 5:30pm from seabrook saying that they didn't have the bike I ordered in stock at either location. I explained what my confirmation email said and the very sympathetic employee from seabrook said he would call Danvers so see if they had put the bike aside without his knowledge. Danvers was already closed for the day so he offered to call and get back to me in the morning. 10:15 Wednesday I get a call from the owner, with a big attitude, telling me that they don't have the bike. Zero sympathy or compassion for me, the customer. He claims it was in seabrook and must have sold right before I ordered but doesn't know when. I was obviously upset, having ordered Monday and only finding out two days later that they sold me a bike they didn't have. The owner acted annoyed that he even had to call me and said "I don't know what to tell ya". He offered to cancel the order or order the bike (which would come in 7-10 business days), but we are leaving on vacation and needed a bike sooner. He said "sorry" like he was forced to, and was just overall not nice to me. I would recommend Buchika or Philbrick's for your bike needs. Philbricks went above and beyond and legit built a bike for us same day (normally a 2-4 day turn around) so we'd have it for vacation. read more

I can't say enough good things about this Bike Shop and Hunter. I'm from out of state and had an issue with my Aventon E bike. I called and gave my problem and Hunter advised to bring it in to see what the issue was. He got right on it and diagnosed the problem. He couldn't solve my issue as it needs a new battery and he had none in stock. I thanked him and asked what I owed him and he said nothing because I couldn't help you get back on your bike. I had sent my wife there to pick it up. She tells me when I ask if it went ok and she stated she was interested in a bike with a pet carrier or something and told me when she was paying the bill she asked the owner how much for the item and he replied "that's too expensive " wtf? I very seldom write reviews, but this company warrants being praised for their work. I worked with Luke to get an electric conversion kit installed on my elliptical bike. From my first call, to picking up and going over the bike upon completion, the entire experience was friendly, straight-forward and cost-wise reasonable. Luke was patient and answered all my questions. The install that he did was top notch. I live within 12 minutes of 3 well-known bike shops, but I travelled 45 minutes to get to this place in Danvers because of their knowledge, their high rating, and their willingness to take on this non-routine job. By far the best bike shop around! They have fantastic service and will have you and your bike back up and running in no time. They also have a awesome feature that texts you when your bike is ready to be picked up which is super convenient. Their bike tune-up also includes a thorough cleaning of your bike making it look like new! Tucker made sure that my sisters severely neglected bike (with a bent detailer) shifted as good as possible. Horrible customer service. I had to call 4 times to ask for updates on my simple bike repair of adding a new chain and 2 new tires. Promised it would be done in 48hrs. After a week I called and owner Jamie who took this work order read to me over the phone he had stated he didn't have the repairs completed as promised, said I owned a different bike with different repairs compared to my bike and my repairs. I stated multiple times I just needed a new chain and 2 new tires for the 3rd time. He promised after a week that the bike would have the proper repairs to the proper bike and he would have it completed by the afternoon and that he would call to confirm that work was properly completed and in the timeframe promised. It's 4:23 on Friday and they close at 5pm. I haven't received a call once again. I called and spoke with Jamie for the 4th time and all he said was it's ready. No apology no phone call as promised. Not completed when promised. How do you serve your community for over 50 years. It appeared to be a busy shop but I'll never go there nor refer business to them. Jamie never apologized offered no discount. He just plain ole didn't give a s&@$. Horrible unethical business person. Thanks for making my first experience my last experience with you. read more

My wife wanted a bike to ride in and around town. We decided to stop in to Western Cycle on the way back from running some errands on a whim. Boy were we pleased! We spoke to Jamie about the kind of bike my wife wanted. He was really helpful and low key. We ordered a bike and all of its accessories and went home. I decided to look at bikes by the same manufacturer as my wife's and found one that I liked. I called Jamie and asked him about it -- he didn't have it in stock nor could he get one from the warehouse. I was totally bummbed but Jamie said he'd look around a little and get back to me. 10 minutes later Jamie found the bike at a closeout price! I had been going to a bike shop in Burlington for the past few years for all of my bike needs. After a couple of recent bad experiences, I decided maybe I should give my local bike shop a try. I walked in looking for a pair of gloves for my winter rides, and I walked out with a new electric bike upgrade for my current e bike. I dealt with Jamie who was incredibly knowledgeable and accommodating. He looked into the issues I was having with my current bike, and figured out a solution after having my bike for only an hour or so. I bought a new cycle from a well known place in the area, but the last time I went back had someone who was a little snippy (I guess I'm not the kind of cutting edge biker he liked to deal with). Deciding to try another shop, I brought my Trek here for a tune-up since it's been in business since probably before I was born. The service was courteous and fast, but even more important, the bike road MUCH better than when I first bought it, and I was SO happy with how the gears shifted like a Swiss watch. I was extremely happy with my shopping experience at Western cycles. I am a mom who is just starting to ride because my son is at that age when going for a family bike ride seemed like a fun thing to do! I ended up at Western because I wanted to buy the attachment for the back of the bike so my 4 year old could ride a long. I called around and they had it the cheapest so I went on over. (Other local stores had it at $50 above MSRP) While I was there I figured I better buy a bike to attach it to. I fell in love with a pale blue cruiser looking bike. (I now know it's something between a cruiser and a mountain bike) The guy who helped me (I'm guessing the owner?) let me know that he had some great used bikes that would fit my needs for half the price. At no point did he try to up sell me. I bought the cute blue bike which was still a very reasonable price. One step up from entry level. Brought home my new bike. Did my post purchase research to find that I got a very good price compared to any other online retailer I could find. The next day my husband decided he needed one too. So back we went. Same guy set my husband up with a similar (less cute and girly) version of what I bought. My husband (also knowing nothing about bikes) said that he really wanted to make sure the bike would last and maybe he needed an upgraded model. Any sales person would have jumped all over that and pulled out a pricier bike but this guy carefully explained each feature that he would get with each of the next levels of bikes. Then he politely left us to discuss privately. It was clear that at the level we would be riding he did not need these added features and he went with the original bike he had shown us. I was in the market for a new bike and a friend recommended Western Cycle. Based on what I explained I would be doing for riding (mostly road and no trails) they helped me choose a great bike. After my first ride on the bike, and trying to navigate a few trails (something I didn't originally think I'd be doing), I realized I needed something that could handle that type of ride. Isn't is always a charm to receive not only good customer service but a pleasant attitude. I was in a predicament about getting my son's bike repaired and had no transport to get 2 bikes to the shop. I call and spoke to the owner and after figuring out a few steps, he was able to come to my assistance the day after we spoke. I would say that this was an instance of above and beyond for admirable service, and from here on end, they have my complete loyalty all because they showed me by their actions that they really do care about their customers!! I am very critical about customer service. However, I also try to be fair and balanced. Most of the times I simply say "thanks" for good service but occassionally I'll do more than that and take the time to post an honest and sincere review. In the age of Covid, it's understandable that we don't get what we want, when we want it. Today I had an exceptional experience at Western Cycle. I bought a Trek last year from them and had my first problem with the bike early during the pandemic (around April). I was disappointed at first that they couldn't give the usual quick turn around but understood what bike shops are going through and so I carefully nursed the bike until I could get it fixed. Early today I called WC and was told that my problem would take about a week and a half for the turn around so I decided to bit the bullet and brought the bike to the shop. Much to my surprise I got a notification two hours after drop off that the bike was ready to be picked up and the repair price was reasonable. I know many bike shop owners and feel their pain. However, in this case I recognize service that went beyond a reasonable expectation. A well deserved "atta boy". read more

I needed a new bike for my daughter who is 14. I was referrred to Western Cycle by a friend. When I arrived, I was greeted by the owner (Jamie) who showed me a few bikes and explained the differences. He never once tried to upsell me which was a breath of fresh air! No pressure! I bought a beautiful ice blue Trek and my daughter absolutely loves it! A few weeks later, she got a flat tire while riding on dirt roads. I took the bike back to Jamie to replace and he had it fixed in under 10 minutes. I'm so glad I found Western Cycle. It's rare these days to find great service and I certainly found it here. I was in the market for a used road bike and sent an e-mail to several north shore bike shops inquiring about used bikes. I got one reply and that was from Jamie at Western Cycle. What a find!!! I corresponded a couple of times, went by the shop and purchased a used TREK bike. (Josh waited on me and he was terrific!) I am so happy with what I got. The bike fits me properly and was tuned up and ready to go and at a very reasonable price. I have decided to change the brake levers and so again, I corresponded with Jamie. He ordered the part and let me know it was in. I delivered the bike today (Thursday) and he said he would hopefully have it Saturday. Well, it's Friday night and I have an e-mail letting me know that my bike is ready to be picked up. Now that is exceeding expectations! I highly recommend Western Cycle! read more
