Had a great experience ordering a bike from them online for pickup. The online order was smooth, and they sent me an email when it was ready. During pickup, store employees were friendly and knowledgeable, helping me adjust my bike to the right height and checking the tire pressure. When one of my reflectors came loose the next day, they helped me reattach it. It was convenient to bike in for the repair, since they are located just off the Charles river. Poor communication. I dropped my bike off needing a new set of wheels, tires, rotors, everything but the frame. The salesperson said it would be close to 400 and that I might consider buying a new bike instead. He said he would call once he had the quote and I could decide whether it was worth it to repair. I called 2.5 weeks later and the bike had been ready for 10 days, costing 419 before tax. I was expecting less than 400, and to have a conversation before the work was done. I was not told to look for an email, which was automatically sent when the bike was done. I expressed this to the next salesperson when I picked it up, and I was told that they wouldn't have called me and that they would have given me a quote at drop off. I went to Farina's after a nasty flat involving a tire that partially deteriorated while riding and a messed-up chain as well. Their mechanic in just minutes, replaced the tire with a much better one, figured out what was wrong with the chain, and had the bike ready to go in only 20 or 30 minutes. I highly recommend Farina's - their staff is amazing. I have purchased 2 lawnmowers, a snowblower, and brought them in for countless annual servicing and occasional repairs. In every case, the staff was professional, knowledgeable, practical, and helpful. They call it like it is, and I trust their judgment. For what you're getting, their prices are very reasonable. Their annual service for lawnmowers and snowblowers is really helpful and keeps the machines running perfectly. Thanks to Farina, I had a Honda lawnmower that lasted nearly 25 years(!) because it was in such good condition I was even able to sell it. I suggest calling them to do the annual service a few months before the start of the season since they always have long waits as you get closer to the season. Call them in early October for snowblowers, early March for lawnmowers to get on the list. They will even pick up your machine from your house. read more

Stopped by Farina's to test out the Aventon e-bikes. Liz helped us out today and was super helpful! Toured us through the different models and answered all our questions. The best part about purchasing the Aventon e-bike from Farina's versus doing a direct to consumer purchase was that if anything was to break or need maintenance, we could call up Farina's and they would take care of it. They have their own Aventon contact that they will correspond with for any issues or questions. Liz also took us down to test the bike out on the road. We tested the Aventon Level.2 Commuter Ebike and it was super nice! The bike is sooo intuitive, smooth, and the power of the throttle, amazing. The bike is super quiet and will make commuting a breeze. We were sold to say the least. After purchase, Liz showed us a few more how to's, like how to take off the front wheel, which is a quick release and super easy! We loaded the bike into the car and away we went! Do not waste your money here! Very misleading and condescending staff. Brought my bike in that needed a flat tire replaced. Should have been $10-20 max, but then the rep "found" a bunch of things wrong with the bike that needed adjusting and said they'd make some adjustments. Knowing it was a cheap bike and completely brand new should have tipped them off that I wasn't interested in a world class tune up, but no price was brought up implying it wasn't going to be complicated. They ended up charging me over $110 for an extensive tune up and reassembly that I didn't need on a casual bike. When I questioned them on it, the staff member was smirking and made condescending remarks that I had bought a cheap bike and it "needed" all these things. Absolutely ridiculous! Don't let them con you into an expensive tune up or better yet, don't bring your bike here at all. read more

I stopped by this bike shop hoping to have someone be able to take a look at my bike and let me know what kind of maintenance and services they would recommend. From the moment I walked in, the staff didn't come off very friendly nor welcoming at all. I said hi and told the older gentleman who was working I don't know much about bike maintenance and what he would advise by looking at my bike and his answers seemed very short and condescending to say the least. He basically said I needed a tune up which was understandable, however in the way it was communicated came off like I should know better and very dismissive. It wasn't kind nor helpful- I ended up asking more questions yet he still seemed like he didn't really care. I ended up purchasing some bike lube upstairs and the female employee came off very disinterested as well. I left not feeling welcomed and wanted a second opinion so I took my bike to Roasted Spoke bike shop nearby down in Newtonville and the person working (who turns out to be the owner) was so much more kind and friendly, gave me honest feedback and I felt comfortable dropping off my bike there to be serviced. As someone who also works in the service industry and is a small business owner, I believe customer service plays a pivotal role and I highly value that aspect when I'm a patron of a place so I'd like to just say kindness and good customer service goes a long way being in the business industry. I hope they realize that and do better in the future. Also based on some of the reviews I've read, they seem to be the opposite in terms of customer service when they know from the start that they're gonna make a sale and people are there to shop and buy bikes from them-- that speaks volume. read more

Two brothers and a sister are the owners, and they take pride in their service and reputation. Bicycles are valuable pieces of equipment. Farina's main showroom is filled with snowblowers, chainsaws and lawnmowers, etc.varying by season. They will likely maintain the brands they sell - Ariens, Stihl, Etc., but they are NOT a small engine maintenance facility. I made the mistake of thinking they might do a carb cleaning on my vintage ECHO 500VL chain saw which I use for yard and street clearing when the city is delayed in their response to limbs down from our damaging storms. They declined, making a series of lies and falsehoods that will cause me to cease using them, even for my Ariens Snowblower. Most egregious was their refusal to assist me by naming an alternative business to meet my maintenance needs. Fortunately a Google Search uncovered D&M Lawn and Snow Equipment, right in Watertown on Orchard Street. They were fabulous, having any needed parts in stock, appreciating the near new condition of my 40 year old saw and its quality metal die cast construction. D&M is the place to go in Watertown for small engine work. read more

Buying two bikes there was a great experience, but I find their service staff, at least one of them, frankly quite rude. I was in line to collect a repaired tire, they told me quite bluntly that I had to go first to a different floor to pay. Ok. Came back, started waiting outside the same service door, the same person told me "you need to use the other door, it is all the same shop, you know?". So, to pay it is two different places, to pick up the same. They made it confusing, but should not make the customers feel stupid about it. My wife complained also about the same "rude person". Must be part of the family, otherwise I can't understand why he is still working there. 4 stars for their sales department, 1 to the service staff, will look elsewhere for services going forward. read more

I recently ordered a Honda mower (with all of the bells and whistles) from Farina's to replace my fathers aging John Deere. Farina's offered a great price as well as an excellent demo/tutorial when the complicated new mower arrived. I had called no less than 50 Honda dealers in my area of NH, and all told me I would not find the mower I wanted (needed!) and that, if ordered, it would not arrive until there was snow on the ground. Farina's said 2-4 weeks and had it on week 3. Excellent. I worked with Mike on my order and found him to be exceptionally polite, professional, and fun to talk to. I understand he is a member of the Farina clan - though he did not volunteer this until well into the conversation upon picking up the mower. If he represents the "family" behind this family business, you are in good hands as a customer! P.S. if you want the best, I can tell you Farina's stocks it. Ariens snowblowers, Redmax leave blowers, Stihl saws and garden tools, Honda mowers... it's like they only stock the best brand for each category of tool (and I mean the BEST brand, period, as in do not buy another). I really respect a business which doesn't offer a "compromise" cheapo brand or model. If you are a skinflint, shop elsewhere... no crummy brands and models to be had, apparently. read more

Came here on a dreary day to buy an electric bike. Anthony was very helpful. Asked what my intentions were. Just to go to my mom's house and back, hopefully alittle exercise while I'm at. After seeing a few, decide the Aventon pedal assist electric bike was the way to go. Anthony also showed me a few helmets. After a few days, went to pick my bike up. Anthony was there and very helpful going over the instructions again. Took it slow a few time out, but I'm now comfortable with it. Beware of Farina's Bicycle Repairs I have been a Farina's customer for years. Their service has always been good, until my most recent repair. I use my bike as primary transport. I put in thousands of miles and have particular components I like: in particular, Schwabe Marathon tires. They almost never go flat. When I took my bike in for a tune-up, the rep told me I would need new chain, cassette, perhaps even new bearings. All good, I approved, I specifically told him I was in no rush and did not want to change out the tires. When I went to pick it up, Farina's had installed a new Continental tire on my rear wheel. Why didn't they call me about this additional item? The mechanic told me it was "just as good and he wanted to expedite the repair." I rolled out of the store, unhappy, on a bike with underinflated tires. The chain came off the first time I tired to change gears. Minor things, easily adjusted, yet unsettling after supposedly getting a tune up and new components. I am looking for a new place to have my bicycle serviced. Before this pandemic started and work slowed down, I knew I was going to be confined to my home for a while. Everyday I'd look out the window and see people walking in the neighborhood getting some exercise in. Personally for me, walking bothers my back at the moment because I have gained so much weight since January. I decided I needed to come up with a different form of cardio for myself, so I talked to a friend of mine who rides frequently and owns 4 or 5 high end road bikes. He gave me a few leads. I did my research and decided on purchasing my first bike. Bikes are not what I remember from my younger days. I got in touch with Anthony from Farina's in Watertown and he answered each and every question I had. He was very very patient with me. He showed me a few bikes and I chose the Cannondale CAADX 105. I couldn't wait to get on it. It took about a week or so, then I got the call when it was ready for pick up. I got to the store, and they brought the CAADX 105 to me...she was beautiful. I gave Anthony a list of extras that I needed, and he mounted every item for me. From pedals to flashing lights to fenders to bottle holder to cell phone clip to a bike rack. I finally go my bike home and took my first ride just yesterday. It was a short 4 mile ride in my neighborhood. I was almost out of breath after one mile, but the bike felt so good on the road and I was determined. It felt really weird getting on the bike at first after not riding one for so long. I got used to it relatively fast. I kept practicing clipping on and off like Anthony recommended.. Last thing I need is to tip over. Sorry for my long review, but I just wanted people to know what my first bike purchase experience was like and how I built up to it. I highly recommend Farina's in Watertown. Ask for Anthony. After not biking for almost 20 years, I decided to make the leap of biking to work and needed some advice on what type of bike would be best. I visited a couple bike shops in Boston, but found the customer service to be lacking when it came to explaining what my options were in a way that I, someone who hadn't exactly kept up with bicycle advancements over the last 20 years, could understand. Farina's was the complete opposite. Paula was able to walk me through the different options and explain all the different terms (hybrid, disc breaks, etc) in plain english. I went back a couple months after getting the bike to do a fitting with them to see if they could figure out why my hands were getting numb after 20 minutes riding. The owners really know everything about bikes and are always happy to answer any questions and make sure that the customer ends up with correct product. I have purchased one of my bikes here and came in for service for almost 10 years. Recently, I wanted to pick up a pair of cycling shoes for my wife's peloton hobby. Great to support locally owned businesses. I brought two bikes in recently (consecutively) to be serviced. They gave me accurate pricing and realistic timelines for the work that needed to be done. They are extremely pleasant and knowledgeable. They are one of my two preferred and exclusive bike stores that I go to. ALSO - I have bought lawn mowers and snow blowers there, and had them serviced. Again, they provided great council in the purchase of the right machines to fit my needs. The service is always done well and is fairly priced. Bikes and power tools, what's not to love!? I wandered in not expecting to buy a bike but they had a set of gorgeous, reasonably priced full carbon Giant Brand bikes there, and its like it was ment to be, I just had to have one. They were friendly and answered all my questions (I had a lot). I was there for 2 hours and tried out 3 bikes. The owner answered some of my questions but another employee named Matt (if my memory serves me correctly, tall guy, dark hair) helped me test out 3 different bikes, and charted with me answering many of my questions for about an hour despite the fact he was helping pack gear so they could set up and help support a road race (which I thought was cool). I tried out some 2017 and 2018 Giant "Defy" 's and one from their aluminum series. I ended up buying a satin black Defy with acid green accents. I love it, it looks like a work of art and rides like a Ferrari of bikes. The teir 3 is the lowest but shares most features with the higher models except the gear set which is Shimano Tiagra inserted of 105. Still, it shifts really well. The bike is all carbon with hydraulic disk breaks. The techs also helped answer questions for me as they prepared the bikes for me to test. All in all a great experience! I'm really happy with my purchase. They seem to have a good assortment of bikes from road, to commuter, to mountain. Drop in and check them out! read more

I experienced poor service repeatedly. They didn't stand behind the product they sold and they were very unpleasant.

Management here is unethical. Don't bring your equipment here for warranty service. I purchased a Honda snow blower for my parents about a year ago. Long story short, they used it once and it wouldn't start up this winter, so I asked them to bring it here for warranty service. Basically they said my father forgot to drain the gas from the tank, which is why it wouldn't start, and that they would charge my parents $100 since there wasn't anything mechanically wrong with it. My parents understood this is the price of business, and were happy to pay. A few days later they called back and said there was an issue with the carburetor due to my father not draining the gas tank, and that it would have to be replaced, and that it would cost them $175. Unfortunately for Farina, my father is a trained mechanic and called them out on this. Leaving gas in the tank doesn't cause the carburetor to fail. And if the carburetor fails, it's a mechanical issue and is covered under warranty. My parents told Farina that they weren't going to pay the extra money, and to call Honda and sort it out. They call back a few days later and say okay, we'll just charge you $100, and threw in a "tune up" for free...right. I grew up in Boston and I can't support businesses like this hat try to take advantage of people in the community, and especially retirees like my parents. Thanks. read more

I came in here because I was on my way to pick up an order of sushi from New Ginza. I have always walked past this place and decided to check it out because i was in the market for a bike rack for my car. Normally, I would purchase high-priced items like this on Amazon because the shipping is free and it's usually cheaper than getting it from a store. I went in and was looking at the bike racks. For someone like me who didn't know a thing about bike racks, the salesman was very helpful. I already knew that the two major brands, Thule and Yakima were really good, but I didn't know why. The salesperson helped me compare the different brands and types of racks and i understood why there was difference in price between the name brands and the other brands. I asked if his prices were competitive with the other stores and he said that they were. That evening i went to another bike shop and to my surprise, Farina's prices were lower. I went online and saw that the prices were about 15 bucks less. I really wanted to get the bike rack because i was going to need them for a trip in a few days. Farinas had the Thule, lower end model available for a great price. I went in the following day to go and buy the mount and there were none available in the lower end model. The salesman decided to offer me the middle model at for 12% off. I thought this was really nice of him to do so and I purchased it. I checked online and the mount was only $2.00 more than what Amazon offered, which is a great deal. I was very happy with my purchase and very happy with how helpful he was. read more

The bikes they sell are more expensive than what you'll find at Walmart, but the quality AND service are much, much better. Series of events: 1. My husband got squashed between a moving MBTA bus and a parked SUV the other day while riding his bike. He was okay but got a flat out of the deal. 2. I watched him try to change said flat tire the other night for close to an hour, to no avail. He said things like "Damn, I can't do this. What the hell is wrong? I have changed bike tires my whole life! I can't go to a bike shop and have them do it for me, I'll be too embarrassed." 3. Then he said, "Wait, there's a bike shop near your work. You do it. Just tell the guy it's your bike and that you got the flat." 4. Cut to me in bike shop the next day telling the guy I got a flat and asking him to put in a new tube. He then said "Your tire is shot, look here. I can't just replace the tube." 5. He asked me how it happened and I froze. I couldn't lie anymore. I came clean and admitted to the guy that my husband was too embarrassed that he couldn't change the tire himself so he told me to pretend it was my bike. I am a terrible wife! 6. The guy sold me a new tire, new tube and put it on for me and it cost me $65! Serves me right for being a bad liar I guess. The guy in there was really nice and they were fast and it was pretty painless. So, I don't know about buying a bike here but as a repair shop, I was pleased. read more
