When you visit ATA Cycle, you are blown away by the sheer selection of the best bikes, clothes, and shoes you have EVER seen in person (unless you are a lucky American who has seen a WorldTour race in person). But then, you talk with the owner, Husam Sahin, about bike fitting, and you really realize what is so special about the shop. I am comparing this to $250+ fits I have had at other local bike shops. While those fits were done with the absolute best intentions, Husam's experience, expertise, and technology are well above anything else I have ever experienced. So where am I now? I have seen a measurable increase in average speed after Husam's fit. While I am kicking myself for buying the bike I did, in the way I did (basically selecting on aesthetics, reputation, word of mouth, and Thor Hushovd), I will go to ATA for my next bike without hesitation. I have been converted: visit Husam, get fit head-to-toe, and have him and the staff at ATA recommend a bike that will be the best fit for you and your riding goals. When I moved jobs to the Concord,MA area I stopped into ATA Cycle a few times to get the lay of the land and see what they were all about. I already have a fairly expensive road bike and was not really in the market for a new bike, however as the riding season went on, I was in more and more pain on the bike. Eventually I stopped in to see Hussam and get his take on why I was getting so uncomfortable on a bike I had put about 200o miles on the year before. As it turns out, over that year I had lost over 100 pounds and my body position, makeup, and pretty much everything else about my body had changed. As Hussam put it simply, my bike no longer fit me or my new body. After going through the types of adjustments we could try to make to the bike, the end result was that we just could not make the frame work for me....so time to find a new frame. Hussam and the guys at ATA were great in working within my budget and putting me into the perfect bike - A Look 566. Although I would classify the bikes carried at ATA as high end - they work with you to figure out what will be best for your situation. As a younger, fairly inexperienced cyclist, it can sometimes be a bit intimidating to visit a 'serious bike shop.' A couple weeks ago when I came in for a fitting, Husam assuaged any trepidation I had. He took wonderful care of me, and helped me get on my way to becoming a better cyclist. This is a high end bike shop and I am not their usual clientele, but they were kind enough to fix up my old beater bicycle for a couple hundred bucks during the pandemic, when less expensive bicycles have been hard to come by, and they were nice about it. Next to riding, I love nothing more than going into a bike shop. I travel a lot so I usually check out one or two in every city I visit. ATA cycles is hands down the best one I've ever done business with. Fast, courteous, very professional, the staff at ATA made me feel welcome the minute I walked in the door. The owner, Hasam, was especially helpful. I've purchased several bikes in my life but Hasam was the only one who took the time to fit me properly. ATA is my new go to when it comes to my bike. I went there to inquire about a seat post. Next thing you know I'm in there for a fitting. And I'll say there is a noticeable difference! I think of myself as a purist and think there no substance purer than Columbus tubing. Living in the Philippines where Columbus is rare, , I have been buying bikes by reading reviews, buying the frames online and getting them assembled and fit. On a trip to visit my brother nearby, I popped into Ata in 2012, rode a couple of built bikes around the block and bought a Guru from Husam. It just felt a lot more like part of my body than the bikes I had bought online, and in a lot of ways, it felt a lot better for someone else to be thinking for me and achieving superior results. Fast forward to 2014, I came into the shop again and decided to to say nothing and just pay for whatever Husam cooked up. For some reason it wasn't hard to do as the first time. If my best pre-Husam road bike was an Arabian stallion, this new one is a unicorn! It has almost no parts that I would choose myself, but boy, this one flies! It just leaves behind all my remembered parameters as to how a bike is supposed to go down the road! read more

Got total of 3 numbers and an incomplete chart with lots of wrong/missing numbers out of a $150 fitting, and even so took several rounds of pressing and extended time to get those numbers that were promised the next day after service. Unless you're either a pro cyclist or super rich don't bother. I live in town and would only go here in an emergency which just happened. Riding nearby I was clipped by a car, hit the curb and crashed. My bike was a mess so I wobbled in for help. Having visited this shop before I knew not to expect much and that's what I got...horrifying not just for a business but for simple human kindness. After pushing the bike home I put it in my car and drove to another shop for help where I got excellent service even though they knew they hadn't won the lottery with me. I know that service at bicycle shops can be hit-or-miss all too often, but it's always been a hit for me at ATA (based on a half dozen visits). The staff is friendly and helpful. What prompted me to write a review is the fit I had this winter/spring in their Fit Lab. I've had fits at other places where I felt like I was being told, "this works for a lot of people, so we'll do it for you", but I experienced a very personalized level of service in the Fit Lab. First there was all the body measurements. These were done with tools designed (and sometimes custom made by them) to take very specific body measurements. From there, they do use a computer to generate measurements to try on the bike, but that isn't the end of it. They put these measurements custom made fitting bicycle so you can try out the exact fit. I spent a good half hour riding in the position to get warm and loose. Adjustments were made for some of my personal preferences and needs. From the fitting bike, I could see live data about my pedaling efficiency, my balance from left to right, any lateral pulling I was doing, etc. For me, this is where the fit really diverged from something I've done before. It was all measurement based with very precise tools. Next came a Retul data recording to look at my pedaling motion millimeter by millimeter. If needed, additional tweaks can be made. Then this fit gets translated to your current bike or a new one. For me, it's going to both. Once the new bike is together, I can go back and have the fit analysis done on my bike rather than their fitting rig. read more

I purchased a new bike from Husam at ATA in March of 2014 and wrote this review after having finished a great Six Gaps Ride in Vermont. I knew that after approx 12 weeks of extensive riding, this ride would cap off the best summary of the experience. Now, after an entire summer on this bike, my decision to engage myself at ATA Cycles is confirmed. No, this isn't your everyday bike shop. But beautifully so -- it is nuanced, unique, and worth your special attention and engagement. You can see by my star rating that I am as happy as YELP will let me be -- left to my own devices I would add another 5 stars for good measure (pun INTENDED). I know now that I did not just buy a bike -- I subscribed to a fit, and cycling legacy. The artistry and consideration of this fit can NOT be undervalued. Nor can the enormous benefit supplied to the comfort, improvement, and feeling of the ride. The aforementioned Gaps ride went down with no discomfort other than the general fatigue of the difficult ride itself. And further, my summer on the bike gave me gains in power and duration that echoed deeply into even my fitness as a long-distance MTN bike rider/racer. Husam's fit has reorganized my thinking about how to spend money on a new bike. Meaning, trying to save $$$ by forgoing the fit in favor of hardware is a big mistake. I know this, because I have now done both. I would love this review to save someone from this. I have never felt more comfortable, powerful, and happy on a bike in my life. My fit metrics were considered, along with conversations about my riding style, as well as power output evaluations. Husam then zeroed in on a few choices of frames, etc that would suit me. He is very talented and passionate about dressing his customers with the right machine that fits their body and cycling desires. This part of the experience is priceless. It sounds trite, but the bike feels like a part of my body -- this would not be possible without the careful, masterful fit, mated to a unique and profound knowledge of works-of-art bicycles provided to me at ATA. Customer service is poor! Decided to buy a quality bike for my daughter that she could enjoy for a few years, so we decided to go to ATA. After paying for the bike they said they can put it together in a couple hours. Great, so I thought. We pick it up and it was missing parts! The answer was "it wasn't in the box" although online they are included and they show a picture on the box. They just shrugged their shoulders and said if I wanted them, they can order and charge me at cost! Also, after putting together the bike, it was greasy, dirty and stained which made it looked like a used bike already. Their excuse was the persons' hands who put it together must have been dirty and they can't do anything about that. Really? So now I have to take the bike as is? They don't seem to want to deal with you unless you are buying a high end bike. I will not go back here. And when my daughter does need a high end bike, I'll take my business elsewhere! Biking is suppose to be fun at any age and level. Drop the attitude people! read more

Anyone taking cycling semi-seriously or even just for exercise really should get a bike fit. You shouldn't have to make your body fit the bike, the bike should fit you and be comfortable to ride with no extraneous aches and pains. The only 'pain' you should feel riding is from muscles used for pedaling. ATA does a really thorough job fitting, taking into account the style of riding you are doing, any injuries you're dealing with etc. Husam, the owner, truly is concerned for the rider's well-being which means having a properly fit bike. Cycle destination for older women cyclists I want to give a shout out for ATA cycles in Concord MA. I have been a cyclist for the past 25+ years. I first met Husam (owner/bike fitter) years ago when he diagnosed my knee and neck/should problems as related to a poor fitted frame size. i bought a Fondriest frame, he set me up with Rotor Cranks (1st guy to know about these in Boston) and my knee, neck and should pain melted away. Fast forward, to 2018 when i upgraded to a Storck, Fascenario.3 Platinum with Reynolds carbon wheel set. Husam described how the Storck with feel and perform and he was spot on, the bike performed exactly as he stated. It cut corners, descended, and climbed like nothing i have ever ridden. I want to say if you are an older woman cyclist who feels you are missing another gear, go see him and get fitted. He is more tuned in to maximizing your potential than any other shop in Boston. Between technology and his knowledge of the sport he will help you reach your ultimate potential. I've bought two bicycles from ATA in the past three years: one, a high end carbon fiber road bike, the other, an upright road bike for city riding. I have been completely satisfied with the personal attention and service I have gotten from Husam and his employees. Both bicycles fit me perfectly. Maybe a good place for the "cyclist" to shop, but for a bike commuter, not so much. The selection of accessories is skimpy and priced at a multiple of what you'll pay at a better bike store and the staff doesn't really care. The bikes are beautiful and, again, horribly overpriced. One thing I will give these guys: I've had them do some maintenance (replacing rear derailleur that was demolished by encountering an amazingly small twig) and the work was done right. Wasn't cheap but it wasn't outrageously priced. However, it was not quick. read more

ATA sells high end and custom bicycles. Their typical customer is a hard core bicyclist or triathlete who wants to optimize power and performance. I am in a very different category. I am now 54 years old. When I was in my teens and 20s I was an avid cyclist, but I had to completely stop because of a combination of injuries including knee problems, shoulder problems, and rebuilt wrist which will be injured if compressively overloaded. By age 32 I had completely stopped cycling, and I did not ride again for around 20 years. In spring of 2011 I decided to try again, and was advised by my doctor (who is an avid cyclist) to go to ATA. Husam did a complete fitting, using his bicycle "simulator" (a stationary bike whose frame geometry can be altered on the fly) and built me an amazing bike -- a carbon fiber road frame with thin clincher wheels to minimize vibration transmission to my wrist and shoulders, with mountain bike style bars, bar extenders to let me ride with a hand position similar to riding on the brakes of road bars, and an unbelievably adjustable stem which allowed me to ride in a very upright position then, and later could be re-adjusted to get me lower and more efficient and aerodynamic as conditioning allowed. The fit was amazing. I have been riding this bike since, without pain. A year later Hussam successfully set me up with cleated pedals that did not hut my knees. This has been a first for me. I probably tried out at least 5-10 cleated systems in my twenties, and despite multiple tries with "fit-kits", I was never able to ride with cleats without hurting my knees. Last year I had gotten well enough conditioned that Hussam was able to readjust the stem to get me a bit more aerodynamic, and by last fall I was riding harder and faster than I could have as a young man in my 20s. Additionally, he has also fitted me to a mountain bike which I am also able to ride without pain. By evaluating my multiple orthopedic issues and then fitting me expertly, Husam has given me back my favorite sport. Furthermore, Hussam has given me access to truly expert re-fitting to allow my road bike to grow with me as I gain conditioning. I would never have thought that this level of fitting and subtle adjustment could be available other than to highly competitive athletes. By making it available to someone like me: a rider who loves biking, but is limited by injuries and a heavy work schedule, Hussam is making it possible for me to become stronger and faster than I was as a young man, despite these handicaps. I wholeheartedly recommend ATA cycle to anyone who needs an optimal fit to compensate for injuries, or to make their riding as comfortable, efficient, and fast as possible. read more

Today I picked up my new road bike from ATA Cycle and I never dreamed that buying a road bike could be so much fun and such a great experience! I am a long-time cyclist and participate in a few triathlons every year. For as long as I remember I have always had a love of biking and over the the last several years I have moved up the food chain and purchased increasingly more expensive carbon fiber bikes from local shops around suburban Boston. On the advice of a friend, I stopped in at ATA Cycle the other day to begin the hunt for my next bike. I was greeted by a truly friendly sales person who was extremely knowledge, honest, without pretense, and without any high pressure sales tactics. Skipping ahead a bit for the sake of brevity, a few days later I purchased a new Look 586 frameset with Shimano Ultegra components and I just love the bike! Perhaps the most impressive and enjoyable part of the buying process (besides meeting the nice people that work there) was the "fit lab" experience whereby the shop owner, Husam, scientifically and with the benefit of computer analysis fits the bike to the rider's frame and riding style. This process allows the rider gets the most efficient and enjoyable riding experience possible. If you are in the market for a new bike, you simply have to experience the "fit-lab"! Now I finally have a bike that fits me properly and it makes all the difference in my riding experience. Besides a great selection of high quality bikes, the shop has a great selection of riding clothes, shoes, eye wear, electronics, and all the other accessories we cyclists need - or at least want! Perhaps most importantly, Husam built me a wonderful bike and, as he promised, stayed within my budget. There were no last minute surprises, hidden costs, or build overruns. In fact, I can honestly say he gave me more than what I bargained for. Several years ago, ATA built a terrific carbon bike for me. I finally had a bike that actually fit properly! Cycling took on a whole new dimension, and I soon found I was able to keep up in large groups and ride much longer and harder. The investment in a custom fit bike turned out to be worth every penny. This year, I replaced my 20-year-old (seriously!) bike shoes. I had no idea that one simple change would wreak havoc on my aging knees. With new, less malleable shoes and less mobility on my petals, the precise position of my cleats became critical. Husam tried everything for me, spending hours and hours of diagnostics with me on my bike in ATA's Fitlab. I didn't realize what a challenge I would end up being for him, since a diagnostically perfect straight "alignment" that would be great for 99% of the population didn't work for me. Two pairs of new bike shoes and three pairs of pedals later, Husam found my ideal fit and the optimal cleat adjustment. I attribute this not only to his determination to get me back on the road, but to his part science part art ingenuity. He patiently worked with me until I was comfortable, always welcoming me back for yet another adjustment. Amazingly, he charged me very little for all of the gear I had to return and for the huge amount of time he spent with me in the Fitlab. I cannot recommend ATA highly enough. The entire staff is great, they are real pros at what they do, and they treat customers the way customers really should be treated, even those of us who will never become competitive cyclists. This shop is a fit for someone wanting to buy a bike with an unlimited budget. If you want a shop that gives good service for a reasonable price, stay away! The arrogance the staff and owner portray is astounding. Everything is junk unless it is a line that they carry. They change bike lines so frequently however it will make your head spin. I've had Husam(sp) bash various brands in conversations over the years and to my surprise he now carries them. They are heavy handed sales people that want you to part with as much money as possible. I recently purchased another bike from ATA in Concord, MA, and since I have extensive experience with the shop, I thought I'd take the time to write a thorough review. By way of background, I am a Cat 4 masters racer (road & CX) and I log about 4.5k - 5.5k miles a year. I bought my first bike from ATA in 2009 and have been a customer ever since. While I am admittedly biased, it is for good reason. I have visited nearly every bike shop in Massachusetts, as well as an assortment of other shops in New England, and can say unequivocally that ATA is in a class by itself. There are a lot of things that go into making a great bike shop and I'm going to focus on a few of the key traits that I think set ATA apart from the rest. First, customization. ATA doesn't sell "boxed bikes." Each bike is built to the specifications of the customer. This means that you get exactly the bike you want, with exactly the components you want, at the price you are comfortable with, since you have final say over every component. In the long run, this saves cost because you won't have to swap out your saddle, stem or any other component that might come on a pre-configured bike, but which doesn't quite work for you. Second, frame selection. Because they aren't forced to sell anyone's full line of bikes, ATA gets to pick what they feel are the best frames, and their array frames is amazing and dwarfs every other bike shop I have ever visited. Their lineup includes Time, Look, Wilier, Colnago, Museeuw, Storck, and Derosa, as well as some of the household names like Cervelo and Giant. The frame is the most important part of any bike and will directly influence your comfort and enjoyment more than any other part of the bike (though a good saddle is a close second). Their selection of wheels is just as impressive. You can certainly purchase your staples, such as Mavic and Reynolds, but they also carry more exotic brands like Corima and Gokiso. Third, fit & expertise. Bike fitting is fast becoming a commodity and nearly every bike shop now offers fitting services. However, not all fit services or fitters are the same. Few, if any, have done as many fits as Husam, and it is unlikely that any have bike fit technology that can rival ATA's. ATA devotes considerable resources to ensuring that its technology is top of the line, and the proof is in the pudding because my bikes fit like a glove. In contrast, I was fit by a rival (but extremely well known and well regarded) shop a number of years ago and was told that the correct size bike for me was a 54cm. I'm 5'5". It is worth noting that ATA will only recommend frames that they believe will fit you properly. Fourth, mechanics/build quality. The quality of a bike is often only as good as the person that built it up. ATA has a small team of mechanics and they have had the same mechanics for years. A stable workforce is one of the key signs of a good business and these guys are the best in the business. Sure, they can do the standard Ultegra build, but they also build up the cycling equivalent of Ferraris and Rolls Royces. When a guy takes a hacksaw to my seatmast, I want to know that it isn't his maiden voyage or that he only does one a month. ATA can handle the trickiest of builds - no problem. I have complete faith in their mechanics. Andy is awesome and has built several of my bikes. Additionally, not only have they done a terrific job building my bikes, but they have also been great in helping me out with quick adjustments, answering questions, etc. Lastly, passion for cycling. ATA isn't a bike factory. They love bikes. Spend 5 minutes with Husam and you will quickly realize that it's more than just a business to him. That may be what I like best about ATA. I've been going to ATA for over 2 years now and I cannot say anything bad about this bike shop. Husam and his staff are very knowledgeable when it comes to getting a bike. Husam spends quality time with the individual. The bike shop may look expensive when you first walk in, but Husam and his staff will fit everyone no matter what your budget is. I HIGHLY recommend going to ATA, even if it's your first time. You definitely will not be disappointed. ATA has a fit lab (very unique and technical), which is designed to fit an individual perfectly on their bikes. Husam spends a lot of time in the fit lab looking at the different movements of the individual, therefore getting the best results for you.
