Maymar is my go to spot when it comes to food for a party. I have potlucks at work monthly and I always bring lumpias. The lumpia here is the best ! Crispy , flavorful, and tasty! They are definitely a crowd pleaser. The staff and owner are amazing! Personable and friendly. I always know walking in I'm going to be treated like family. Parking is ample, location is great in a shopping center off of Battlefield in Chesapeake. Place is clean and organized. Love this place!

Cleaner than the Maymar Norfolk location but less seating than the Maymar Pleasant Valley Road location. Service was good, the staff was friendly. I ordered pancit and bistek. The pancit was salty and the bistek was two sour and salty. They were almost inedible. For $11 I could get better tasting pancit (and better portion and price) at Gl***'s Bakery. All of us pinoys should know what am referring to.

We stopped in for Filipino food on a recommendation and were not impressed. We ordered pancit and lechon. It was served in a take out container, which always seems on-the-cheap to me but it's a choice. The lechon had a good initial flavor but quickly turned to a very greasy mouth-feel and tasted overdone. The pancit tasted like it had simply been boiled in bouillon. We've made better and certainly tasted better at other restaurants. The lumpia we ordered was made to order and was very good, fresh, and hot. Bravo! We specifically went to Maymar for the turon, which they were not serving on a Saturday. (insert puzzled shrug here.) None of their other desserts were available either. Restrooms are clean. Parking is easy (strip mall) but watch the closing time if you're going.

I'm Filipino and we just moved from Hawaii so I was excited that my husband found a Filipino restaurant. Unfortunately what I wanted, they didn't have or it was served for another day. I ended up with my 3rd choice (bistec) which was okay. I definitely had better and can make better! I wanted pinakbet for my 2nd entree because I wanted lots of veggies. Again, they didn't have it so my husband got me some other veggies which were way too soft and overcooked. I guess I'm still on a look out for some good Filipino food.

Amazing food, plenty of choices, fast service, FRESH lumpia, mmm crispy and made fresh/hot!!! Service is pleasant. I will continue to go when I can!

When I came there were a couple people in line. Not a huge area for a lot of people to wait due to blocking the door and constant flow of customers in and out. I witnessed them stating lumpia are made to order cool I get that, but it took them well over 10mins to bring out my chicken pancit and I got the lumpia first. The food was delicious as per usual but when it comes to wait time there is a need for improvement especially when others who ordered after I did received their pandit before me. Price is great for the quantity and authentic taste of the food. Absolutely no gripes in that department. I decided to dine in today since was just me. Not too noisy and easy listening music. They've remodeled over the years seating arrangement wise and I do like it. It opens up the space and allows for great conversations with neighboring tables/guests. I do recommend this restaurant because over the years the food has remained delicious and you will come back.

I tried this place over a year ago and it must have been an off day. I tried the place today and the food was amazing. Very flavorful, great portions. I ordered chicken adobo, menudo, garlic rice, vegetable pancit, and beef lumpia. Everything was amazing.

It is small but the staff are SUPER friendly . Totally loved the service, fast and friendly. I loved the cozy pillows. This place has such potential for 5 star even with it being so small. I was not wild over the lumpia. It was gooey inside. They looked great and had wonderful crunch on the outside but I did not like the inside. We tried both the beef and the veggie. I got Pancit. It was Ok. The noodles were a bit over cooked. I always like getting something I have never had before so I got Tocino. It is pork shoulder fried really crispy. Not much flavor. So next time I will get something different. They have a pretty good selection of canned drinks. I am hoping to return at a later date and hopefully pop my stars up

This one and the one in Norfolk are completely different in a few ways. This one looks better aesthetically. Nice table and the chalk wall with the signatures of employees and customers looks nice. I was disappointed that this one didn't offer the sticky chili wings as the one in Norfolk. As far as food, the food is good. I really like the containers that they put your food in to go.

Everything I've had here is delicious, but here are some of my favorites: UBE BLONDIES *** Probably one of their most signature items that stays on the menu season to season, this crumbly, satisfyingly dense, soft baked good with that nice punch of ube flavor will really have you coming back for more. The frosting glaze is just perfect, adding that sweetness that carries the ube flavor really nicely. The texture is just soooo satisfying, you can just tell when you cut your fork through it that it has this airy, yet dense and crumbly texture. TURON FRITTER Kind of like an apple fritter, but oh so crumbly, delicious, bright, and soft on the inside. Also had their brown sugar boba pudding cup when it came out, and it was really good; the tapioca actually blended quite nicely and was chewy and fresh, which means you're not stuck chewing it forever. Definitely on the sweeter side, but brown sugar items tend to be that way.

I love accidentally discovering new businesses! I visited JR Street Dining on accident just…read moreswinging by Smartmouth Pilot House for some "fast food" via food truck after work. They have only been operating for a month now, this was their third brewery appearance. For appetizers they have a buffalo chicken dip and pimento cheese nacho- talk about solid brewery apps! Most of their menu items are types of wraps. Their special was chicken fajita tacos (Cinco de Mayo celebration) and for dessert they had a crispy ice cream sandwich. One unique thing that I don't see many food trucks do, is they offer kids menu items as well! Again- it is just their third day- this could all be totally different once they are more established and have tried different things. I opted to get the ice cream sandwich, because I'm a total sucker for dessert. I ate this first. Two crispy shells with a cinnamon sugar mix and if I'm not wrong it possibly a second seasoning that had a little kick to it. Maybe it was a touch of cayenne? Definitely not strong or overpowering in spice, just a little something to make it interesting. In the middle was a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a scoop of chocolate ice cream. The vanilla was complimented by the cinnamon and the chocolate was complimented by whatever that other ingredient was. I was definitely a fan! The more I ate the more I wanted more! I also got the chicken fajita taco special. I should point out that if I didn't go for the food truck option at Smartmouth I was headed to my favorite taco spot in VB. Maybe it was the unintentional comparison of the authentic street taco from my favorite spot, but these tacos fell a little flat for me. Not letting it really affect my review, because I did eat dessert first and then I messed around taking pictures before getting to them. It might be a "it's not you, it's me" thing with the tacos- I'll own this one. The tacos were served with a side of corn on the cob. It had a lemon cilantro butter which was fantastic! I'll definitely be craving that corn again sometime! The prices were on the lower-side of average for the food truck scene in Hampton Roads. Prices are another thing that might change as they are in business longer. They were also extra friendly from the moment I stepped up to the truck! Offering me whatever I needed and even getting out of the truck to come ask me a question of convenience, not necessity. I know several spots that would have just shouted it or not even bothered. So far so good! I hope they keep popping up at Smartmouth VB so I can try more of their menu and see how they change things up as they get a few more months of operation behind them! I'll definitely be updating as I try more! Next time I'm definitely going for the pimento cheese nachos!

I chose menudo, pancit, pork belly, and lumpia with a side of sauce for about $15. The prices seemed pretty reasonable. The portions were decent also. The menudo was flavorful and filling the meat was tender but there were a few pieces with fat. The pancit was tasty. It wasn't heavy on vegetables, I wish there were more. The pork belly was crispy and I liked it, but a few pieces were over cooked and had an awkward burnt old flavor. I can't really explain it. But the taste caught me off guard. I enjoyed the lumpia. They had beef inside and went good with the sauce. Their sweet chili sauce is yellow, not like most that are orangeish red. But it was good. The staff was busy. They didn't really talk much, but were nice. They also have a banquet room for private events. I do like their Filipino food more than some other places in the area. Definitely check them out!!
