We've only ever tried their Turon and they were very good! About 8-10" and contains one whole saba, cut in half to make it into a long serving. They have quick options for dishes but if wanting more than 2 Turon, make sure to call ahead. We usually order 10 at a time and they give you about a half hour wait. Worth it anyway! read more

Food was delicious. Lumpia was crispy and fresh. Portions were huge. Highly recommend.

The food was yummy and they were generous in their serving. There was a long line of non- Filipinos who loved the food there. The owner and staff were very friendly. read more

This restaurant is the place if you're looking for delicious Filipino food. The pancit is spot on as well as the lumpia. The chicken adobo is seasoned just right. I wasn't a fan of plantains until I tried them there. Overall when I visit Norfolk, Maymar is definitely on my must go to list. read more

Maymar is my go to Filipino restaurant on this side of Norfolk! Growing up eating Filipino food, maymar makes me feel at home every time I go! It's soo important to arrive early if you want to get some of the fan favorites; the chicken adobo and the wings! Let's dive into it! Chicken adobo 8/10 - flavor is always through the rough on their adobo!! The only thing I'll say is please make sure you eat slow! There may be little fine bones for when they split the chicken! Wings 10000000/10 - I could go just for the wings alone. They're cooked perfectly! They glisten inside and have a sweet chili flavor! Lumpia 8/10 - I loveeee homemade lumpia! These with some duck sauce??!! Chef's kiss! Pancit 8.5/10 - the pancit from this location has always been good! The prices are amazing as well for pans! Overall, Maymar's in Norfolk will always be my favorite Filipino restaurant to support in Norfolk! The staff is always so friendly despite being busy from open to close! Also, I'd recommend calling in ahead of time to place an order! If you're like 15 minutes out, give them a call to make you a plate ahead of time! I always do that when I'm craving a dish that may be gone quickly! read more

This place is such a GEM! Small and quaint, there are a few tables if you want to dine in but most of the lunch crowd grabs their food togo. Don't let the line deter you the staff moves pretty fast serving everyone! The SMALL Pancit is small only in name and was packed to the brim. Plenty of flavor and they make sure you get a good mix of veggie and chunks of meat as well. The wings had a glorious sauce similar to sweet chili but not as much heat. Lumpia we're filled nicely and crisp and the longanisa had a great slightly sweet glaze on the outside and was juicy with an amazing flavor as well. Do yourself a favor and stop in for lunch! read more

This place tops at all. Great food, great staff great atmosphere. You can't go wrong with this place.

Filipinos make some damn good comfort food. And as it's been another rough day, comfort food is what I need. I'm like Kung Fu Panda, I eat when I get stressed...and when I'm happy... and well, just because. I'm a foodie, don't judge! Today I really wanted Tocino, something sweet and savory, especially since I don't really eat meat anymore. But alas, my craving was not able to be satisfied as they did not have any today. They did, however, have a large assortment of fish, lumpia, loganisa, sinigang... for $5.25, you get a heaping two item entree. Lumpia is only sixty cents a piece. For less than $40, I got two combos, a dozen lumpia and four loganisa. And since my eyes are almost always bigger than my stomach, I barely even had a third of my combo before getting too full. So glad this place is here! read more

Love this little hole in the wall. Not sure what all that I ordered because I didn't see any signs next to the food and it changed on the two consecutive days that I visited. I had the beef, squid, and what appeared to be some sort of intestine. If you prefer something a little less exotic, they make some bomb chicken wings! Literally the packed restaurant went wild when the chef came out with a fresh batch of cooked wings. The prices were fair and you can get a plate of rice with 2 entrees for around $13, tax included. And the portion sizes were more than generous. Expect a lot of grease so best not to make this your daily go to. read more

Daughter requested Lumpia and Pancit for bday. At recommendation of a friend, we called at 10a for 2p same day pickup; packed and ready at the promised time. "Small" order pancit ($20) fed 5 people, many of whom got third helpings, for $30 incl lumpia ($0.60 ea), plus leftovers for 2 lunch portions. On bday, food was hot, flavorful, and everything we hoped it would be. Remember they close at 3p sharp, so get there before the door closes. Just order and know you're getting the same fantastic Filipino food your friend's Mom/Dad use to make growing up. You didn't have that friend? Call Maymar and you will now. read more

My family and I were on the hunt for some Filipino food. My family is from CA and in RVA there isn't really too much to choose from. So we ventured off to Norfolk. The drive was well worth it. Maymar is the place to go! Lots of options for food and pretty inexpensive for so much food. We got the chicken and pork adobo, chocolate meat, lumpia, turon and lechon kawali. All amazing! All of the staff were so friendly and they constantly were checking on us to see if we needed anything. My dad had a great time too conversing with some locals lol. It's not a huge restaurant. More of a hole in the wall to sit down and eat real quick. But we loved it! My mom and I were saying we should've bought more food to bring home! We will definitely be coming back again! read more

If you're in the Norfolk area and want some real-deal Filipino food, this is where you have to get it! Yeah it's in a shady area, parking is a little awkward, but once you come inside, you're greeted with the same friendly, welcoming hospitality just like you would at your auntie's house. Traditional "what you see is what you get" when it comes to choosing your meal. I love their picadillo, adobo and lumpia! You can also ask for a side of sinigang sabaw (tamarind soup) which is complimentary. Run out of rice? No problem, they'll hand that out to you too. Now just a heads up- if you're going there for lunch, best bet is to do take-out, they get very busy! The place is really tiny with maybe 4 tables, and a small counter against the kitchen window lined up with chairs. read more

It's only 4 stars because I ordered food during lunch that was awesome and food just 4 pm and it was not up to par. I love pancit, and the pork pancit I had before had the meat mixed in. This time, they just put a lot of it on top. This didn't bother me. The meat was just too salty. The pancit looked like leftovers. The lumpia was great. The veggie lumpia is more of a veggie egg roll. It is the best. The price is good for the quantity you get. The place is clean and in a good location. On my last visit, they were putting away inventory, so maybe that's why the food wasn't as good before, but the service was still on point. All in all I will eat there again and I recommend it to all. read more

Great Filipino food! I visit here often when I'm in Norfolk. Many choices available either by the plate or in take-out portio s

I can wholeheartedly say Maymar is Top 3 places to eat in Norfolk. Everything about this intimate filipino restaurant will have you begging them to extend their hours. From the moment you walk through the doors you are greeted as if you are family. Get there early or they may be out of your favorites but one thing is for sure.... get there often! Tip: the beef Nilaga Soup is earth shattering experience! Update: MayMar did a little remodeling several months back. ( see updated pics) even more great food selections. read more

Maymar Norfolk - Yum!!!! - Filipino Near Me - Norfolk, Virginia

It has been at least 30 years since I've been to this particular Maymar and I couldn't even remember but according to my mom we used to come here. She even remembered the screen door that they still have today! First things first, which is the obvious: location and parking is super sketch and super suspish. I'm talking, we're not in Kansas anymore, Toto! But hey, it hasn't deterred them from conducting business all these years so props to them. Secondly, it is a true Mom & Pops spot so don't expect all the bells & whistles because the food is where it's at. You can order, pay, and dine in or you can take it to go. We were hungry so we dined in. We were graciously treated to free pancit on the house because according to them, we were new faces. So Filipino of them to be hospitable and generous. The pancit tasted just as I remembered - damn good!!! Thirdly, the food was delicious and the rice is bottomless. They already give you a decent amount but if you need more, just ask and they'll hook you up. I got the Dinuguan and Bistek. To take home I grabbed some Turon and lumpia for the road. This is the perfect place to fill your Filipino craving (if you're in the area) and they're also more than equipped to cater your next party. They're known for their pancit but don't be afraid to try other native & authentic dishes! read more

Busy busy... Visited here on a Saturday, early afternoon and it was already a steady flow of customers. Now I don't know if they were family members, but everyone there looked as if they were family and we (babe and I) looked out of place. Standing room only... The restaurant is quite small, but they have squeezed about 10 tables with chairs inside for those that wish to dine in. And on this day, all seats were taken. The restaurant is located off the road with about a handful of other shops. But this shop seems to be the only one bringing in the flow. You walk in and immediately the aroma hits you....ahhhhh...you are steps away from the goodness that's on display behind a window shield. I ordered pancit and lumpia and it was sooooooooo good! Now, I was super hungry this day, but I still believe the food is awesome here. I have never had a meal from here that I wasn't pleased with. They get you in and out, hardly ever a wait here. And the food is fresh!! Parking is tight, but it has never been an issue. But the hours...I'm not sure if they have set hours, but I'd suggest you call first to make sure they are open. Nothing worst to have an appetite, but then get denied..."we're not open" I'd surly recommend this place for your authentic Filipino food pleasure. Have fun and Enjoy :) read more

Best Ginataang and Dinuguan...Just like what I remembered from my childhood.

I don't like the location. But their pancit is phenomenal, probably the best pancit in Hampton Roads!

When we're in town this is the place we run to for Filipino food (if my mom isn't in the mood to cook). The owners and staff are always so friendly, it's almost like walking into Cheers. The restaurant is always clean, and the atmosphere is inviting. It reminds me of hanging out at a friends house. I haven't had a dish that wasn't yummy. From their pancit to the squid to the chicharon, I just can't get enough. Once I've had my fill of a proper meal, then I can enjoy a guilt free turon. read more

I've been coming here since I moved to Norfolk, VA about two years ago. Very welcoming and personable! The food is always consistently great! I drag my coworkers there, Filipino or not, and they always come back! 4 stars due to lack of indoor space & the parking is super small. For how good their food and customer service is, they truly deserve a bigger space. read more

Dang this place has gotten expensive for take out. Almost 20.00 for a 16 oz container of Sinigang which is basically a soup. 6.99 for a small palabok. 7.99 for a ground beef stew. I can't even remember how much it was for the other item because they charged extra for a small piece of fish. Holy crap people your food is good but not that good. Don't order any food in the plastic containers to go, you are getting ripped off. read more

Good homestyle Filipino food here, freshly cooked and replenished. Turons are the bomb! Lumpia, pancit, munggo, etc all on point. Haven't tried poke bowls yet but will get there soon. Super friendly staff...Jan is da man! A true Mom&Pop ops place so local support welcome! Now, about the 'shady, sketchy, etc' hood comments: must be referring to the shade of the 300-ft water tank tower that looms above this place, either that or the shades of the many trees in this quiet hood. There's a dog park & Fire station next to it and families with children live in the houses of surrounding streets. If this is 'shady' then you might just want to stick to the frou-frou restos downtown where it's 'safe'. read more

Since the Hampton Roads area is potentially the unofficial Filipino capital of the East Coast, I am looking forward to trying the many traditional Filipino places in and around the Virginia Beach and Norfolk area. I haven't had Filipino food in quite some time and this was near where I was going and I needed a quick grab and go place. The surrounding area is very ahem... shady and feels unsafe; I would say you're in the hood if you're going to Maymar and just be careful of your surroundings. With that said, I didn't personally have any issues but would never come here at night. I arrived around 11:30AM and there were a few patrons already inside. There's a small hot food case you can order food from but there is absolutely no menu in sight.. I think everyone that comes here knows what they want and knows what they have to offer. I informed the lady it was my first time and I asked what was good and she named two dishes and said I really don't know. So I asked her since I don't know what many of these dishes are can you tell me a little bit about them and she completely ignored me.. Frustrated, I decided to get what I've had before and got the pancit and some pork stew (visually it looked good, I had no idea what the other food they had were) and 15 lumpia. I asked what kind of lumpia they had and they stated they only had beef which I thought was rather odd since normally it's made with pork? My total came out to just under $16 and it was enough food for two people. The pork stew was tasty but there were a few parts that were overcooked and the pancit was standard. The lumpia had a nice crunch to it but nothing too special. I want to come back and try their other dishes but I don't know if they'll ever tell me what they are.. They really need to work on their service. I realize this place got a little busier after they arrived but showing a little respect and informing the customers is not only a part of their job but common courtesy. read more

To be to honest, I've only tried the pancit but it's really good. It is the most flavorful pancit I've eaten. I've had it so many times. It has the traditional rice noodles with beef and a couple of finely chopped vegetables. They also add some type of egg noodle, but it only makes up about 15-20% of the dish. It really enhances the pancit. The service is good. The location is pretty easy to get to. It's located on Princess Anne Rd. read more

Stepping into this establishment is the closest that you can get to visiting the Philippines without spending a day on an airplane. The same crowded feeling, the same friendliness and camaraderie, the same delicious smells and sights, and the sound of Tagalog in the background. I waited my turn in the out the door line (12:20 PM), got my food, found a spot to sit, and was shocked by how good it was. I had just spent a week in the Philippines, and found the food here better than any of the places recommended by locals that I had visited there. Might be better availability of higher quality ingredients, who knows, but I was impressed. I am certainly bookmarking this establishment. I'll try to come around 11:30, or around 1:30 to avoid the crowd next time. Everything here is cooked is small batches, and once they run out, in about 20 minutes, there's a whole new batch. They also do catering. You can get the lupia rolls frozen, bake them off yourself. Most of the business seemed to be for takeout. The prices were very reasonable, I paid ~$12 with tax and tip, and it was an excellent meal. read more

Filipino food will forever be my first love as I am Filipino. With that being considered, I have ridiculously high standards when it comes to Filipino food because nothing compares to homemade Filipino food from my mom or anybody else's Filipino mom. Ask around This is a true definition of a hole in the wall spot. It's located in a run down strip in Norfolk with poorly marked parking spots and jagged roads but the food reigns king. The line sometimes stretches out of the small restaurant so that's a good sign. The seating area is small and cramped. My parents always orders our party size Pancit from this location as we live in Virginia Beach. It's a far distance to go but it's definitely worth it. The Pancit, in my honest opinion, is the best in the area. Good Pancit comes from the broth the noodles are put in and Maymar has the best. They offer other tasty Filipino dishes as well available as entrees and to go plates. The Turon which is a fried plantain egg roll with caramelized sugar on top is amazing here as well.
