It's soo important to arrive early if you want to get some of the fan favorites; the chicken adobo and the wings! Let's dive into it! Chicken adobo 8/10 - flavor is always through the rough on their adobo!! The only thing I'll say is please make sure you eat slow! There may be little fine bones for when they split the chicken! Don't let the line deter you the staff moves pretty fast serving everyone! The SMALL Pancit is small only in name and was packed to the brim. Plenty of flavor and they make sure you get a good mix of veggie and chunks of meat as well. The wings had a glorious sauce similar to sweet chili but not as much heat. I had the beef, squid, and what appeared to be some sort of intestine. If you prefer something a little less exotic, they make some bomb chicken wings! Literally the packed restaurant went wild when the chef came out with a fresh batch of cooked wings. The prices were fair and you can get a plate of rice with 2 entrees for around $13, tax included. Now I don't know if they were family members, but everyone there looked as if they were family and we (babe and I) looked out of place. Standing room only... The restaurant is located off the road with about a handful of other shops. But this shop seems to be the only one bringing in the flow. You walk in and immediately the aroma hits you....ahhhhh...you are steps away from the goodness that's on display behind a window shield. I ordered pancit and lumpia and it was sooooooooo good! Now, I was super hungry this day, but I still believe the food is awesome here. I have never had a meal from here that I wasn't pleased with. They get you in and out, hardly ever a wait here. And the food is fresh!! Parking is tight, but it has never been an issue. But the hours...I'm not sure if they have set hours, but I'd suggest you call first to make sure they are open. Since the Hampton Roads area is potentially the unofficial Filipino capital of the East Coast, I am looking forward to trying the many traditional Filipino places in and around the Virginia Beach and Norfolk area. I haven't had Filipino food in quite some time and this was near where I was going and I needed a quick grab and go place. The surrounding area is very ahem... shady and feels unsafe; I would say you're in the hood if you're going to Maymar and just be careful of your surroundings. With that said, I didn't personally have any issues but would never come here at night. I arrived around 11:30AM and there were a few patrons already inside. There's a small hot food case you can order food from but there is absolutely no menu in sight.. I think everyone that comes here knows what they want and knows what they have to offer. I informed the lady it was my first time and I asked what was good and she named two dishes and said I really don't know. So I asked her since I don't know what many of these dishes are can you tell me a little bit about them and she completely ignored me.. Frustrated, I decided to get what I've had before and got the pancit and some pork stew (visually it looked good, I had no idea what the other food they had were) and 15 lumpia. I asked what kind of lumpia they had and they stated they only had beef which I thought was rather odd since normally it's made with pork? My total came out to just under $16 and it was enough food for two people. The pork stew was tasty but there were a few parts that were overcooked and the pancit was standard. The lumpia had a nice crunch to it but nothing too special. I want to come back and try their other dishes but I don't know if they'll ever tell me what they are.. They really need to work on their service. It has the traditional rice noodles with beef and a couple of finely chopped vegetables. They also add some type of egg noodle, but it only makes up about 15-20% of the dish. Stepping into this establishment is the closest that you can get to visiting the Philippines without spending a day on an airplane. The same crowded feeling, the same friendliness and camaraderie, the same delicious smells and sights, and the sound of Tagalog in the background. I waited my turn in the out the door line (12:20 PM), got my food, found a spot to sit, and was shocked by how good it was. I had just spent a week in the Philippines, and found the food here better than any of the places recommended by locals that I had visited there. Might be better availability of higher quality ingredients, who knows, but I was impressed. I am certainly bookmarking this establishment. I'll try to come around 11:30, or around 1:30 to avoid the crowd next time. Everything here is cooked is small batches, and once they run out, in about 20 minutes, there's a whole new batch. Ask around This is a true definition of a hole in the wall spot. It's located in a run down strip in Norfolk with poorly marked parking spots and jagged roads but the food reigns king. The line sometimes stretches out of the small restaurant so that's a good sign. The seating area is small and cramped. My parents always orders our party size Pancit from this location as we live in Virginia Beach. It's a far distance to go but it's definitely worth it. The Pancit, in my honest opinion, is the best in the area. Good Pancit comes from the broth the noodles are put in and Maymar has the best. They offer other tasty Filipino dishes as well available as entrees and to go plates. The Turon which is a fried plantain egg roll with caramelized sugar on top is amazing here as well. I am only speaking to the Poke bowls offered by Maymar. The fish was fresh however the shrimp tasted as though it was frozen and from a bag. This conflicted with the fresh tuna and was very off putting. The Sriracha Mayo was basically just mayo. I could not taste any distinctive flavors or spice or sriracha in the sauce. Secondly the person who prepared my order put way to much "Sriracha Mayo" on my order and basically drowned my food in mayo. I like mayo as much as the next person but this was way to much. I attempted to eat my food but between the mayo and the shrimp I got about two bites into it and threw it out. Others in the office tried it as well and agreed with my conclusion. There were a lot of people at the restaurant right when it opened so maybe the Lumpia and Pansit are very good. Not sure if I will go out of my way to try it. The people who worked their were nice and friendly, the food prepares worked quickly but the single point of failure was the cash register. There is only one POS system in a very busy restaurant.
