I am thrilled to say I just found my new favorite nail salon!! I found May Salon while browsing places around Capitol Hill, Eastlake, Central District. I have gotten my nails done at a handful of places in Capitol Hill and the greater Seattle area but have never found a place I wanted to go back to. Generally, nail salon prices are expensive and the quality of service is mediocre (ex. $50-$65 for a standard gel manicure). May Salon not only has reasonable pricing but they also provide great service. I called on Saturday and had an appointment within the hour. My gel manicure was $37 and it included a massage and hot towels for my hands. The staff are very kind and understanding when I was indecisive about choosing a nail color. Went here for a girls day to get our nails done. The place was super busy and it felt like everyone was in a rush to get their customer's nails finished. Relaxing was not necessarily the vibe but they do get your nails done fast. If you are a regular they seem to remember you and are friendly. They are not as talkative as some salons but get to business to work on your nails. We had an appointment but there were several other people getting their nails done at the time we walked in and no one free to start right away. I ended up waiting at least 20 minutes before my nails started. As for my manicure quality, they have your standard colors to choose from on the wheel. There were not many specialty colors to choose from if you were going for chrome looks etc. I did not see any design examples either but maybe you have to ask for them specifically is my guess. They were quick and my gel manicure turned out looking good. They shape your nails to the shape you had before unless you cut in and tell them otherwise. They also provide you with a lengthy shoulder massage which some would say is aggressive in a good way depending on which tech you get. Overall my experience was good and my nails turned out just like I had expected. Going on 1 week and they have not chipped. I would go back and recommend to others in the area. read more

I used to try to support this neighborhood salon for an occasional pedi or mani but as other users have pointed out, the sanitary standards are really not up to par and I cannot overlook that any longer. I was really frustrated with a recent experience. I asked to get a dip manicure w/ artificial tips removed, followed by a regular mani. While they don't do manicures with artificial tips, I have had them removed at May before -- this is a service listed on their menu. When previously requesting this service, they let my nails soak in a clean bowl with hot water and acetone for at least 10-15 min so they would come off easily. This time, when I asked for this service, I was met with annoyance. A woman did my nails I had never seen before. Her space was dirty, tools were not clean/in packaging (they are not always), and she put my nails directly in the communal acetone for no more than a couple minutes and proceeded to aggressively scrape my old manicure and ripped the tips off hard. I was worried my real nails were going to come off. Once my nails were off, she rushed through my manicure, doing two quick, thick coats that were bubbling and rippling by the time I left the salon. I had to get somewhere afterward and decided it wasn't worth the fight for the refund because both the tech and owner saw what I looked like upon leaving - I felt scammed. Other than this tech, everyone there is really nice, but the quality is too variable for me to continue coming here. Only the pedicures have been reliably decent, but my manicures have been bad more often than not. read more

I was super hesitant to swing by and get my nails done during the pandemic, but I swung by a few months back just to see what they were doing. They have shields up by the manicure station and in-between the pedicure chairs. All of the employees wear gloves and face masks and I even saw them wipe down the seat at one point when another customer left. I feel very comfortable coming here and trust that they are practicing safe procedures. It's always so clean too. I love this neighborhood spot and would love to keep it afloat. I've been here 3 times now since June, and every single time I am greeted so warmly. Everyone is SO sweet and friendly. Truly a wonderful part of the community! I am usually not one to leave reviews, but this was by far the WORST nail experience I have ever had. My friend and I walked in for 2 mani/pedis and we were able to sit right down because there was only 2 other people in the salon who were just wrapping up. However, the entire appointment took 4 HOURS TOTAL. They would do parts of our service and then skip around to others when they walked in without an appointment and just made us wait around even though we had walked in first. They kept acetone on my nails for over an hour - when she finally removed the foil, the cotton was glued stuck to my nails. She shaved my nail down so far just to remove the stuck cotton. The nails themselves were the worst I have ever received. Thick, lumpy, with red ALL over the cuticles. Really disappointing because I leave town tomorrow and didn't have time to get them fixed after sitting for 4 HOURS. After she finished, the worker said she was sorry because she knew how bad they looked but still made me pay. SO frustrating and absolutely DO NOT recommend. read more

They do a fine job with nails but do not honor appointment times and double book. On two separate occasions in the past month they've "accidentally" double booked or gave my slot to a walk in. When I brought this up the first time they apologized and said they "forgot" and the second time they were straight up rude and shook their hand at me. Also they use dremel to remove gel which is very damaging and harsh on nails. The best $33 I could've spent. The pedicure was awesome, and the best part (foot massage) was long and she reapplied lotion 3/4 times during the massage. The pedicure itself had all the components including base coat, color and top coat which isn't the case nowadays. I found that another salon in Capitol Hill (Apollo) lacked several of these things but although my nail tech didn't speak to me very much she came back at the end to help me put my sandals on which I can't say happened at Apollo. I called them for an appointment to have a shellac manicure as the salon I usually go to didn't have any availability. At first, I was a bit skeptical as most of the Yelp reviews are at least 2 years old. (The COVID pandemic began 20 months ago so that may be the reason). Anyways, the salon is clean, spacious and relaxing. It you are a Huskies fan you will love it as purple is the dominant color in their decor but not in a tacky way. In addition to the shellac manicure, I receive a 10 min neck massage and a hand massage. I was told this is standard with manicures. I think their prices are reasonable. Lee was my technician. She is very -sweet, professional, and has magic fingers for massaging!. I felt very relaxed and pampered when I left. One tip is is to allow a little extra time between 4-6 pm as one side of Eastlake has no parking during that time. The upside of making an appointment at that time is you can pop across the street for Happy Hour at the Eastlake Bar and Grill and watch the sunset, weather permitting. read more

I've been going to May Salon since moving to Eastlake nearly five years ago. I know many businesses have had difficulty getting back up to speed, and my intention has always been to spend money in my neighborhood. However, the last two times have been awful. This last time (March 10), I got one of the regulars who did my pedicure. She was amazing! The new young lady who did my manicure was rude, rough, and had an awful customer service attitude. She cut my cuticles so close that I had bleeding on two fingers, which today is a concern because of the possibility of infection. I was a regular customer and tipped well, but I won't go back. The employee doing my pedicure apologized, and she shared with me that the new young lady does nothing, isn't very professional, and they don't talk to each other. That's a sad commentary. For example, I was getting a gel manicure and the woman doing my nails had a runny nose of course you're thinking okay she probably just got up to blow her nose.. NO she let it drip until it hit the floor and that happened twice. Beyond that my gel manicure chipped 4 days later.. Every time I'm getting my nails done she drills my nails until it gets too hot and I'm verbally saying ouch. Not once has she apologized. I asked for a trim - nail tech proceeded to cut all my nails TO THE SKIN and then proceeded to file quite painfully, so I ended my visit short without finishing my mani. Besides May who is outstanding, language is definitely a barrier at the salon. Had asked for almond shaping on my mani - they apparently only do square or round here. Have never gotten my nails cut nearly to the skin before, so won't be risking another mani here. Nails will take a couple weeks at least to heal. The worst manicure experience of my life!! I left so angry that I wasted time and money for a horrible manicure that started chipping day 2!! a week later I have 4 chipped nails and 1 completely fell off. I always get dip powder manicure and at other salons that do better quality of work I can go three weeks without having to change out my nails. The first reason I was angry is because I had a 6 p.m. appointment. They put the acetone wraps on my nails and left me alone for 40 minutes while my fingers were burning for sitting that long with that solution on them. They proceeded to help many other customers who were just walking in and never got back to me so after 40 minutes I started removing the dip powder from my nails and then several Salon workers came up to me and asked me why I'm in such a big hurry and that I need to be patient. At this point, I was hoping to be in and out of there in about an hour or so but I could tell that their appointment times don't really mean anything. So then they started to help me remove the dip powder from my nails and once that was all removed they walked away and left me alone for about another 30 minutes. I seriously was contemplating getting up and leaving. Finally the first girl comes back to me and starts doing my dip powder nails but I could tell she did not care about the quality of work. She seemed very annoyed that she was still working for the day or just tired but she was doing my nails so sloppy compared to other salons that I'm used to. Furthermore, she did not even do the dip powder process correctly. It was like she didn't even know what she was doing. and when she opened the dip powder lid the powder look very clumpy which is not normally how it should look so it must be that they don't take care of their products or that they buy cheap products. I was left with very bumpy uneven looking nails that I was highly embarrassed of which was irritating because I had a wedding to attend that week. When I finally left the salon it was literally a two-hour ordeal for something that didn't even look nicely done; it was very rushed and didn't even last me enough time to get my money's worth. Which I was planning on changing them out after a week since they look so bad anyway. For me, I do not ever go back to a salon that does horrible manicures and, to top it off, doesn't even value the customers appointment time. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Clean, well-maintained nail salon in Eastlake (where there are only 2 nail salons and the other one - Eastlake Nails - is not always reliable and possibly closing down soon). The people are sweet and I do call ahead but always find a spot. Overall, a great experience - there are fancier salons and they're probably more 'polished' (pardon the pun), but May salon is ideal for the price, service and convenience. The end result is good too. I used to be a regular to May Salon when I lived at the Valencia (apartments half block away). I would come here for regular/deluxe mani-pedi, have parties with my girlfriends, etc. The place is always clean, and quiet even when they are super busy. Water, tea and massage chairs add to the relaxing ambiance of the salon. Lee has always provided me great service for all the 7+ years I have been a patron. She is very friendly, and her skills are as great as the Brazilian manicures I grew up used to! Q is the "newest" addition to the crew, and my go-to lady for all things waxing, and her Brazilian is not short of the waxing one would get in Brazil! And PAINLESS #winning! She's absolutely fantastic, always smiling, the only con is that she only works Saturdays and Sundays. But no biggy! I now live in Auburn, but I continue to come for more, more, more!! It is unfortunate to see how much this place has gone down. I used to live on the codos above so this was my place to go for years. I moved to Renton so I stopped visiting but I recently came to Seattle specifically to come to this place. First of all, the concept of an appointment is useless there. If you have a 2 o'clock and someone walked in before you, then you will have yo wait a while. If you walk in without an appointment, then they tell you the wait is one hour unless there is an appointment which they don't mention and they will make you wait even more. No matter what you do, be prepared to wait a while and a while could be 2+ hours so be prepared. The other worrisome thing I noticed, is that their instruments don't come sanitized and sealed like before. Idk where or how they are cleaning those but they are no longer brining sealed instruments. Overall, I won't waste my time coming to this place to get treated like you are doing them a favor. read more
